I am often disturbed by the spate of shallow reasoning among some Nigerians, most especially when it threads ethnic lines. If it were true most traders are Ibo, what about the mostly Yoruba mechanics who rely on them for supplies, or even the lost revenue to the government through tax. At times I sadly doubt we are ready for the developments we claim to deserve -- so quick to point fingers.

For the record, there are at least 20 textbook ways to ease certain groups of people out of a process. After all we all observed the increased minimum capital reqt for Nigerian businesses in Ghana--that's just one.

Being the Yoruba, I love the industriousness of the Ibo and the calm of the Hausa. Its our unique beauty and I hope we all learn to embrace this because its our only competitive advantage as a nation. NO WAZOBIA, means WEAK BLACK RACE.

After environmental standards have been adhered to, then we would see if indeed its a *cleansing exercise*

Politics / Re: Obasanjo And Tinubu: Who Is A Better Leader? by justmythought: 9:57pm On Feb 22, 2013
Gbawe:

The critical flaw in your argument is that you dock scores for Tinubu relating to a non-existent scorecard. Tinubu has never been President of Nigeria and there is no way, if equitable in outlook, you will ever say with certainty that he would not have performed as well as or even far better than OBJ. It is therefore patently unfair to grant OBJ a win because of his leadership using tools of office Tinubu never had.

Likewise, OBJ has not been a Governor so it is pointless maligning him negatively in comparison to Tinubu in that regard.

Vitali Klitscho may have been in a position where he knocked out very big opponents but does that make him a better pugilist, in the purist sense, than Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao?

For the sake of argument using empirically effective judging parameters, why not simply compare their leadership using an area they can both be judged directly alongside each other?

Why not look at them as Party leaders with the duty of positioning their Party as efficiently as possible in the same region? Look at their activities over time in perhaps the only role they can be compared like for like and it will be crystal clear OBJ is not close to Tinubu in terms of leadership skills and natural ability.

Another great view! Am getting increasingly excited about the future of Nigeria. For the record, have maintained my argument or counter within context. It would be a plus if you have followed the trail.

For the sake of argument however, let us first explore the concept of leadership.

Leadership has been described as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task"(Chemers M. 1997). The leader may or may not have any formal authority. Studies of leadership have produced theories involving traits--situational interaction, function, behavior, power, vision and values, charisma, and intelligence, among others. Somebody whom people follow: somebody who guides or directs others. (Locke et al 1991).

In the light of an equitable scorecard, lets isolate the following:

Situational interaction

function

behavior

vision and values

charisma

intelligence

moving on...

Participative or democratic style
The democratic leadership style consists of the leader sharing the decision-making abilities with group members by promoting the interests of the group members and by practicing social equality(wiki)

Autocratic or authoritarian style
Under the autocratic leadership style, all decision-making powers are centralized in the leader, as with dictators.

Engaging style
These initiatives do for the organization is engage both leaders and employees in understanding the existing conditions and how they can collectively assist in addressing them.

Autocratic or authoritarian style
Under the autocratic leadership style, all decision-making powers are centralized in the leader, as with dictators.(wiki)

Transactional and transformational(Eric Berne, ISBN 0-345-28473-9)
The transactional leader is given power to perform certain tasks and reward or punish for the team's performance. It gives the opportunity to the manager to lead the group and the group agrees to follow his lead to accomplish a predetermined goal in exchange for something else.

Mr(s) gbawe have identified these leadership characteristics, let score them on the scale of one to ten. no ambiguity any more. hopefully we can identify the better leader.
Politics / Re: Obasanjo And Tinubu: Who Is A Better Leader? by justmythought: 7:38pm On Feb 22, 2013
If it were from the constitutions' perspective, we might not need to thread these lines to assess achievements of leaders. you seem to know more about these and thus, should know better.

naptu2:

Finally, you did what I wanted you to do, which is to complete the table of their achievements.

However, with regard to your analogy, it's much easier to lead an association of landlords, where the members are reasonable and gentlemanly characters, than it is to lead a compound of quarrelsome and disagreeable characters.

I would also encourage you to read the constitution, particularly the exclusive, concurrent and residual lists.

Oh! thanks for the lucid contribution. I am indeed encouraged knowing critical minds like yours do exist. Now, back to the debate. If I can attempt to reason your point, you are saying as a political office holder, you manage what you've signed up to and yes this is true. But bear in mind we are talking here of Micro vs Macro management. while the state is responsible for managing a segment of a country(Tinubu here), of what use would this be if at the strategic level (FGN..OBJ) the macro economic indices are weak?

As a manager and leader, Obj through the office of NOI rebased the economy, ending fluctuations in our macroeconomic variables which in turn make it viable for a Tinubu to access developmental funds from international institutions like the IMF etc (Before the IGR drives kicked off).

I would also point to national unity and security. Absent the leadership experience of an OBJ, although with reservations in select decisions, I strongly doubt any person would have achieved same,in this regard he did well and I will like to believe he meant well(personal opinion!).

Going to your statement regarding Obj being responsible for a set of legislators(upper and lower), as a matter of fact they are representatives of their constituents, albeit in Nigeria at the moment they represent governors interests and maybe king makers(SAD). What this simply means is, managing a more diverse set of interests from a wide array of geographies. I doubt Tinubu's leadership skills can pull that off, even as we speak, otherwise the much anticipated merger might not have been necessary.

About state projects vs national projects, please ask yourself, how easy is it to pass a national budget compared to a state budget? these answers might explain the expedient nature of state projects in Nigeria.

The footprint laid by Tinubu is what Fashola(Governor extraordinaire) is implementing to our amazement and joy. they share a common goal with a common "heritage". An Obj had a choice to leave for an IBB to recalibrate or a yaradua to follow through.

So please my brother, If you live in Nigeria's gated community, you would know better that its a bigger task to lead a landlords association than a compound.

Holding forth with my views, OBJ Anyday!!!

naptu2:

President Obasanjo was not responsible for the duties of the 36 state governments. He was responsible for the duties of the Federal Government as set out in the constitution. The Federal Government has "one set of legislative, judicial and executive arms of government. For example, President Obasanjo did not have to send bills to state houses of assembly.

(Therefore, you can compare, eg what did Tinubu do with intrastate railways and what did Obasanjo do with interstate railways. No state government is responsible for the activities of the NRC, although they can assist, that's the job of the Feds. Again, what about ambulance services on federal owned interstate expressways?).

While I dont quite understand your position, I would restate my view.

the stated quote compared the federal govts achievement with a state's. And thus, my view... of course, never a Tinubu over obasanjo. may God preserve us all. when tinibu gets closer, we shall see the true difference.

bankylan:

Is there a future for this country where mediocrity is celebrated? Is someone calling Tinubu a leader? Are we less human as blacks?

Dont be myopic my friend. Where Lagos has one set of legislative, judiciary and executive arms of government -- Nigeria has thirty six with all sorts of interests along state, regional, national and international lines.

naptu2: Complete the following:

Tinubu

1) Lagos State Ambulance Service (Lasambus)

2) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

3) Skills acquisition centre (Tekunle, etc)

4) LASTMA, KAI and other regulatory agencies.

5) Road reconstruction (Awolowo Rd, Akin Adesola, etc)

6) City Bus (failed programme, but good idea).

7) Lagos Rail Transit (LRT) system

Obasanjo:

1) Excess crude account

2) National Integrated Power Project (IPP)

3) GSM license auction.

4) EFCC

A CASE FOR SOCIAL WHISTLE-BLOWING

A whistleblower (whistle-blower or whistle blower) is a person who tells the public or someone in authority about alleged dishonest or illegal activities (misconduct) occurring in a government department or private company or organization. The alleged misconduct may be classified in many ways; for example, a violation of a law, rule, regulation and/or a direct threat to public interest, such as fraud, health/safety violations, and corruption. Whistleblowers may make their allegations internally (for example, to other people within the accused organization) or externally (to regulators, law enforcement agencies, to the media or to groups concerned with the issues)(wikepedia.com)

In the social context, whistle blowing might involve reporting to appropriate authorities, sharp practices amongst us as citizens. As Nigerians, we see every day a guy/lady in dunlop slippers today, driving all sorts of exotic cars and what not the next day. We all know there is no smoke without fire!!! in other words, no reward without verifiable hardwork.

The fact remains, for every micro-corrupt act from a Nigerian - Home and Abroad, we all suffer. I would like to bring your attention to what I discovered recently. If you have been following Nigerian social media, you might have heard of some cyber criminals(at least we hope)who were arrested and arraigned by EFCC. http://www.bellanaija.com/2013/01/07/mercedes-benz-suv-range-rover-sport-other-exotic-cars-seized-as-efcc-arrest-yahoo-boys-at-1004-in-lagos/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+BellaNaija+%28Bella+Naija%29 The alleged ring leader Hope Olusegun is praised in the music video of a "Reminisce" (Title: 2mussh @ 2:17). Earlier Musicians have fallen for this trend like the Wasius promoting drug dealers and fraudsters (Ade bendel et al).

As we celebrate these criminals(consciously or otherwise), we celebrate criminal acts and as such, sell our MORAL values for nothing in return but, extended agony.

In summation, besides maintaining personal uprightness, MY RESPONSIBILITY and may be YOURS or preferably OURS is to whistle-blow every yahoo boy plus criminal acts we suspect home and abroad, as the profits of these 20pc affect us all. Based on the law of averages, If we can send a shock to the spine of micro-scale corruption in our society, albeit in bits, we can have a Nigeria worth dying for.

In prosperity, LONG LIVE the 110 Million youths of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Culture / Ethical Dilemma...Would You Report A YAHOO YAHOO Friend To Police? by justmythought: 10:55pm On Feb 10, 2013
Looking at us (Nigerians), I am aware, as individuals we are not free from our imperfections, amongst other life induced deficiencies which impair our sense of integrity in association, Choices and judgment.

Over the past years, we all seem to have suffered one way or the other from the negative perception Nigeria presents. In my observation this owes to the greed and get rich quick syndrome of a few amongst us in society.

I am not forming cattle egret here, please don't get me wrong - Sadly, we probably have or know someone who's email account had been hijacked to send fraudulent messages to their contacts, with huge consequences for the individuals reputation. At some time, maybe, as a consequence of the actions of someone else, you are treated like S*** at foreign missions as well as entry points, even at foreign destinations. Its so difficult to establish credibility on the international business scene only because some MAGA hunting Nigerian was there before you and has destroyed every drop of reputation left for the African continent.

Why the FUSS? Like most of us, I have suffered a great deal from these lot called YAHOO YAHOO boys, some of us might at least know one personally.

Now my ethical dilemma...Should I report those I know to the police? Along with the MAGA, I am suffering too.

Please share your thoughts. thank you

Career / LOOKING Up...investors Bet On Nigeria With N800bn Sealed Deals In Jan by justmythought: 10:52am On Feb 05, 2013
SIGNS OF GOOD THINGS TO COME...

Foreign investments in Nigeria, Africa’s second largest economy, reached a record N800 billion ($5.2 bn) in January 2013 as prominent corporations from the United States of America, Canada, The Netherlands and Turkey increased their investment stakes in the country, in a pace never seen before.

The scale of the net inflows, about 207 percent growth above what flowed in the same period last year, highlights the revival in investor confidence in Nigeria’s economic reforms.

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) figures for Q3, 2012, showed a total of $1.4 billion was injected into the economy through Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) while $4.6 billion came in through portfolio investments, with another $4.7 billion invested in the capital market, a far cry from what flowed in this year.

The current inflows and investment commitments with different gestation periods, focus on infrastructure development, construction of power plants for the enhancement of electricity generation, mining, healthcare, agriculture and agro-allied sectors of the Nigerian economy, areas where there have been concerted efforts to turn things around.

The investments into these sectors in the month, reflected positively also in the capital market, as investors (local and foreign) saw need to key into the opportunities in the Nigerian equities, which achieved a four-year high last weekend.

The response is underscored by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) $50 million Naira-denominated bond issued in the period.

Having been endorsed by the Investment Supervision Department of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), the IFC’s investment in the country has surged to $1.1 billion, which is the largest portfolio in Africa and eighth-largest globally.

“The rally underscores the rising confidence in the country as a project and buy-in by investors who easily smell good deals,” analysts told BusinessDay weekend.

BusinessDay Research and Intelligence Unit (BRIU) analysed the future effect on the value chain.

“New companies will emerge to service the investments and existing companies will upgrade skills. Hubs are forming as the investments are spread across the country. There will be new jobs and job requirements and there will be spill-over to local suppliers as well.”

General Electric, the leading global player in turbine technology, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Federal Government of Nigeria to invest about $1 billion (N157bn) in the next five years in manufacturing, assembly and training, in a firm located in Calabar, Cross River State. Initial investment will be $250 million and it is expected to rise to $1 billion over the duration of the agreement.

Other deals sealed by GE last month include the $500 million 450 megawatts Geometric Power Plant in Abia State, as well as with Transcorp plc, in order to increase power generation to 650 megawatts at Ughelli Power Plant in Delta State. Tony Elumelu, chairman of Trancorp Plc and Jeff Immelt, global chairman and CEO, GE graced the occasion when the deal was signed.

In another development, the African Finance Corporation (AFC) and FMO of The Netherlands (Entrepreneurial Development Bank) reached an accord to promote project development facility in the country. “The Facility will make early stage investments in projects under development, pre-financial close, in the infrastructure sector across sub-Saharan Africa.

The $15 million facility will fund early-stage equity investments in projects under development by AFC, and third party developers, including those referred to the Facility by FMO. The Facility will be managed by AFC and will typically fund technical advisory services and third party expenses”, information obtained from the official website of FMO revealed.

The month of January 2013 also witnessed the injection of $800 million (N126 bn) by the African Development Bank (AfDB) into the Nigerian economy. The breakdown shows that Eleme Fertilizer and Chemical Company got $100 million while the Bank of Industry (BoI) and Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) received $700 million. The former loan is meant to boost fertilizer production, just as the latter will enhance the capacity of BoI and NEXIM to promote non-oil export.

Many other firms and financial institutions yet to berth, are fast queuing. One such, is the Nigeria-Canadian Bi-National Commission (NCBNC) which announced that Canadian firms are interested in the country’s mining activities, rail, road, aviation, as well as in agriculture, even as they recognised the need to encourage investment in Information and Communications. Consequently, they have promised to increase their trade with Nigeria up to $6 billion by 2015.

Samsung is looking to build a manufacturing plant in the country.

Back home, the FG has set aside $400 million for the trans-Saharan gas pipeline. With specific focus on the Calabar-Ajaokota-Kano pipeline, the speedy completion of this pipeline will enhance the operation of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project. Also, Stanbic IBTC and Keystone Bank will provide N5.6 billion for the Agbekoya (Farmers Association) in order to boost food production and processing.

In addition, Standard Chartered Private Equity and Ashmore acquired a stake in GZI which is an aluminum manufacturing plant based in Ogun State. Similarly, Florence Nightingale Group, one of Turkey’s best healthcare providers, will invest about $100 million in healthcare service delivery before the end of Q1, 2013.

Career / Movies All Entrepreneurs Should Watch by justmythought: 9:46am On Feb 04, 2013
I have come across this and I hope someone out there might find it useful. please enjoy.

Introduction
Movies are a great way to learn from others as stories, fiction and non fiction, are taught to the viewer in an easy to understand way. There’s a lot to be learnt from these stories as they show you how exceptional people who have come before you have done it.

The Godfather
An offer you can’t refuse.

One of the greatest films in the world based on the best book I’ve ever read. The Godfather is the story about the growth of a small family business as it becomes the largest organised crime family in New York, fighting off opposition at any expense. The Godfather and his son Michael Corleone are the brains behind the family and this film gives you an insight into what it takes to become one of the most powerful family businesses in the country.

Glengary Glen Ross
Lie. Cheat. Steal. All In A Day’s Work.

In the fast paced world of Chicago real estate, competition and incentive is what decides who’s the best. That’s why they’re having a little sales competition – First prize is a Cadillac El Dorado, second prize is a set of steak knives, third prize is you’re fired. With stakes that high, and the pressure on, the salesmen show that they’re willing to do anything it takes to succeed in business, but the most interesting part of this is film, is what exactly that is.

Wall Street
Every dream has its price.

In the life of an ambitious young stockbroker, Bud Fox will do just about anything it takes to succeed, and for him, that includes a little bit of insider trading. See what happens when the desire to succeed takes over your life and the motto of ‘Greed is good’ directs how you do business. But what happens when you’re pushed to your limits and asked to do something you can’t or won’t do? Suddenly everything comes to a head when Fox is asked to help do something, not only illegal, but morally reprehensible.

The Game
There are no rules in The Game.

What do you get the guy who has everything? Nicholas Van Orton (played by Michael Douglas) is a wealthy San Francisco banker who’s life is wrapped up in his business, which has left him as somewhat of a loner. His brother Conrad gives him the gift of a lifetime, which would prove to change his perspective on the world and the way that he’s going to live it. When bad things start to happen to you, you start to question what’s really important in live, business, success and money, or actually living?

Boiler Room
Motion creates Emotion!

After entering the stockbroking profession to impress his father, Seth Davis, a Queens College dropout, soon realizes the huge earning potential ahead of him. But with commissions much larger than any other company, Seth soon learns that not everything is what it’s cracked up to be and he’s forced to face the dilemma of money and greed vs. morals and legality. For any young entrepreneur starting out in business, it’s a very real possibility that you’re going to face moral dilemmas and the way that they’re dealt with in this film is very eye opening.

Jerry Maguire
The rest of his life begins now.

This is a story about a man who’s at the top of his game; beautiful partner, the biggest clients, lots of respect. But then he decides to step back and question it all and proposes his new thoughts to the rest of the company, which ultimately ends in him losing it all. Everyone turns his back on him, except for one, very volatile client, Rod Tidwell. From here you see Jerry examine what it really important to his business and life and works towards bringing it all back together again, only this time, the way it should be.

Trading Places
Take two complete strangers, make one of them rich the other poor… just watch the fun while they’re… Trading Places.

What happens when you take the rich and the poor and make them switch places? A social experiment ran by Mortimer and Randolph Duke, brother and owners of a commodities brokerage firm, proves to be very interesting when the switched pair run into each other. A life changing event for both of them, poses the question of what’s more important in life, friends and love, or money and power?

Office Space
Work Sucks.

When your hypnotist dies just after they’ve put you in a state of complete bliss, you can’t help but have a refreshing outlook on life. If there’s ever a film to make you want to get out of a desk job in the corporate world, then this is it. Peter Gibbons is a man who can’t help but be promoted as he consistently starts to slack off and do things his own way, but trouble starts to arise when his new careless nature starts to lead to him stealing from the company in a much bigger way than he expected.

Pursuit of Happyness
Based on a true story.

This is a real life story of a man who believes so badly in a product that he can’t sell that he ends up losing his house, his wife and his money, being left with just himself and his son. This in itself is an important lesson to be learnt, but it’s the steps that he takes from here that really shape him into who he becomes. Against all odds, he takes an unpaid internship to become a stockbroker, fighting against his peers for a single job at the end of it. This is a powerful true story that sticks with you as you face your own personal struggles in business.

Catch Me If You Can
The true story of a real fake.

Again, this is another true story, about a young conman who successfully impersonated an airline pilot, doctor, lawyer and history professor during his stint as fraudulent cheque casher. What’s amazing about this film and the life of Frank Abegnale Jr. is how much he managed to achieve in a much tougher environment and under more stress than most people are used to. Whether it’s legal or not, business is business and Frank was one of the best at what he did.

Rocky
His whole life was a million-to-one shot.

This is a story of a man who went from nothing tom something, and something very big at that. It’s an inspirational film for the amount of perseverance Rocky puts into it, but that’s not what I love the most about this film. My favourite part is the story behind the making of the film and the life of Sylvester Stalone up until this point. He’d written the entire script in 24 hours straight, but had so little money that he had to sell his dog, his best friend, outside of a liquor store for $50, just to get by.

The real turn in the story is when, after months of trying to sell the movie, he gets an offer of over $100,000, but he can’t play Rocky. This is a big problem for Sylvester as he only ever dreamed of being an actor, so with barely enough money to eat, he declined the offer. Higher offers kept coming in, but he continued to turn them down, even to the sum of $400,000, purely because he wanted to play Rocky. Eventually, he was offerered just £25,000 if he wanted to play Rocky and he took it.

The first thing he did was go back to the liquor store to buy back his dog, but this ended up costing him $15,000 and a part in the movie for the man he’d sold him to. So after everything, Sylvester was made into a huge movie star, with Rocky winning an Oscar for best picture, all because he continued to follow his dream. This mentally is seen throughout the film and part of the reason it makes it a great film for any entrepreneur to watch.

Shawshank Redemption
Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.

This is one of the greatest films of all time, and one I’m sure that the majority of readers have seen before, purely because of its undeniable greatness. It’s the story of a man who manages to succeed in the worst possible conditions imaginable – false imprisonment for the murder of his cheating wife and lover. From making friends with another con inside the prison, Andy manages to make the best out of a very bad situation and through perseverance manages to achieve more than he ever thought possible.

The Social Network
You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies

This is another story of the young, successful and intelligent man, only this time, it’s based on a true story of the world’s youngest billionaire – Mark Zuckerberg, the creator and owner of Facebook. The story is pretty amazing and has been made famous by this film, he starts off as a Harvard student with a strong streak of arrogance and huge potential, he creates a new social network based upon the most prestigious email address in the country, the Harvard email address. The rest, as they say, is history.

Pirates of Silicon Valley
Good artists copy… Great artists steal.

There are no two bigger names in technology than Microsoft and Apple and this is their story. This is an amusing documentary style film about their competition and their rise to the enormous companies that they are today. It’s slightly dated today, and perhaps The Social Network is a little bit more relevant, but it still holds some very valuable information and pointers to learn from. After all, you’re gotta be a pretty special person to become as powerful as they have.

Forrest Gump
The story of a lifetime.

This is a simple man with good intentions, who accidentally becomes phenomenally successful from living his life the best way he knows how. He wins medals, becomes a professional ping-pong player, takes up running, owns a huge shrimping company and inspires people all across the country. The simple nature of Forrest makes him very appealing to world as he proves that you don’t have to be a super genius to make something work, you just have to try.

Blow
Based on a true story.

Another great film based on a true story, this time only slightly more illegal than the last, it’s a film based on George Jung and his career as a cocaine dealer. What started off as a small time operation working with pot, he is eventually imprisoned and introduced to cocaine and that’s where things start to explode. He’s rumored to have handled about 85% of all of the supply of cocaine in the 1970′s, making him an incredibly powerful and successful man, and this film is all about exactly how he did it.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Nice guys finish last. Meet the winners.

This is the story about two con men, big time and small time, and their struggle to compete together in a small French town which isn’t big enough for the both of them. So they decide to take part in a bet in which the loser leaves town and allows the other to carry on with their business. The only problem is that the bet is to see who can extract $50,o00 from a young female target – a pretty high stake. Of course hilarity ensues as you get to watch how the minds of con men work as they compete against each other to reach the goal first.

The Aviator
Some men dream the future. He built it.

A biopic depicting the early years of director and aviator Howard Hughes’ career from the late 1920′s to mid 40′s. It wasn’t the money he made or the time he spent that made him so great, it was the attention to detail and perfection that he strived for that set him apart from his competition. He faced many obstacles along the way from rival companies and malicious rumors, but nothing stopped him from becoming exactly who he wanted to be.

Risky Business
There’s a time for playing it safe and a time for Risky Business.

A good story about what you have to do when you take your dad’s Porsche out for a trip and start to realize that you’re going to need a lot of money, which you’re going to have to raise in a very creative way. With his parents away and responsibility out of the window, Joel starts to realize that it’s not all as easy as he was expecting, having to look after friends and source cash any way he can. An interesting look at what people can come up with when they’re put on the spot to come up with some fast cash.

The Corporation

This film takes a good, long look at what happens when you take a business and you model it to be legally a person – a corporation. What happens though when the sole purpose of this person is to make money for its shareholders though? It starts to act without a conscience which threatens the world, our future and the people working for it. This isn’t just a film about evil corporations though, it’s also about what we can do to stop them from taking over everything that we know. I saw this film in the cinema and it’s well worth seeing again, it’s completely eye opening.

kuluTemper: WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR POINT HERE?

Allow thieves to rape your wife and daughters because you are scared they may shoot them if you resist? Why do you have to suggest he send his "unruly son" to learn how to kill? Make a point and stop being sentimental!!

Simply put,the message... "The errand he cannot send his own flesh, he shouldn't offer to us".please take a note of "in his view" in brackets after the statement. thanks for seeking clarification instead of shooting insults. am grateful.

peckhamboi:

You are either being disingenuous or irredeemably stu.pid for you to condemn what Bakare said, Nigeria is a complete joke and needs total overhauling and I laugh at you if you think Nigeria is moving forward. I went home last year and could not but shed some tears for how far the country has regressed. I will even go further than what Bakare said, all the cabals need to be executed for the country to have any hope of moving forward.

thank you for your observation. Its Obvious Peckham is more peaceful and would remain after the revolution solicited. I wish you well "Peckham boi"

Here we go again...I hope am not the only person observing this preacher of doom who doesn’t understand the grave implications of his utterances. Yes, some might hold my views are myopic, concurring the Nigerian situation needs to degenerate to rebuild--I think not.

With such irresponsible utterances coming from a respected MOG (daddy this, daddy that), It’s a shame to see what the minds of our leaders, albeit religious are like. The country is sitting on a time bomb like never before where an implosion is possible by the slightest spark. Our unemployed youths who are tirelessly trying to build industries out of nothing (entertainment, ICT, commerce and sadly, Fraud) are the ones you are inciting here without knowing it (All though you claim not to know how God will do it). It’s you generation, most of which have benefitted from the best Nigeria has offered in history (quality education, efficiently run institutions, scholarships and bursaries, career guidance and counselling, well funded foreign training, enabling environment, functioning institutions, relative peace and security, positive national image, etc.), yet you "SPOILT BRATS" have yet learnt to do what is right.

You made mention of so-called MOG's being sent to jail, I expected you to honourably seek asylum at the Kiri-Kiri resorts the Monday after your statements to lead by example, but then, you didn't.

You have prophesied elections would be held in 2014, for who? by who?. If you guys got the ticket in the last elections would you say same? I wonder. Would you have turned Nigeria around so miraculously? (Fasting and praying!) or may be changed our national mind set, Now Now? I doubt.

Going by your recipe for nation building, first, a country of vast oil resources as Nigeria going up in revolution would play to the hands of energy hungry nations who would ensure the case gets worse for their benefits and who suffers, yes, the masses. The loss of innocent lives, destruction of assets, economic stagnation and extensive image depletion which will follow certainly puts us in a situation we as Nigerians certainly don't need. Countries that have played host to the Arab spring are still suffering from the implications of local and continent-wide arms proliferation as well as infrastructure erosion to name a few (CIP: the Mali saga was fuelled or sustained at least, by arms from Algeria Militia groups--with an averted spill over effect into Nigeria, or so we hope).

Another Sir, some of these said bad guys have sufficient funds to sustain unrests not just between communities but states in Nigeria, this they would do to buy time while they attempt to re-strategise or run away, again who suffers? guessed right, the masses.

On the international scene, commodity prices would soar. If Nigerian oil fields "catch fire", the world is in trouble. yes who suffers? the poor masses world over.

Like never before in our history as a nation, our democratic institutions are getting stronger. Yes, they are. While opposition is gathering momentum and quickly too, Nigerians are beginning to understand the principles and functionality of democracy. The so called super powers have taken years of endless errors to be where they are today. Someday soon, we would take our place with minimal or leastways targeted loss of lives.

As for the yesterday's and today's Boys or, sorry men! we the tomorrow leaders are happy to take our fight to the polls in the coming election. It wouldn't be easy, yes we know, but certainly not business as usual.

You and those in your circle have Visas and available funds to get out when it all goes up in flames. You would all retreat to your existing and new homes abroad, only to watch CNN and Al-jazeera with pop-corn in hand.

I put it to you Sir, If you Mr Bakare so desire a Ghana style cleansing, you have a great option before you...You can send that your unruly son on a course to learn how to snipe or suicide bomb where he can do us all proud (in your view), or even you can learn to use long range sniper guns and take these "Destructively Wealthy leaders" out for us without broadcasting your plans.

In all Sir, with absolute and exclusive eroding respect, you either Do It Yourself or SHUT UP!

Yours in truth,
Comrade Audacious bin Nigeria.

Politics / Only Ghana-style Of Cleansing Can Save Nigeria, Says Bakare by justmythought: 4:05am On Feb 04, 2013
THE General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said the only way Nigeria can grow and develop is to carry out a total cleansing, “the type that happened in Ghana.”

Speaking at a press conference Sunday, Bakare said those who put the country in its present mess would not escape when God arrives to do the cleansing.

“We need the Ghana treatment to send shock waves down the spines of everybody so that people would tip-toe when going into public office,” he said, enthusing that it remained “how God will do it.”

In a message titled “The Head that refuses a life-giving rebuke will be thrown down the cliff of perdition”, Bakare expressed regret that the present administration has missed the right path long before now. “Until good governance is in place and credible people are not discouraged from playing clean politics, things would not change.”

On the allegation by former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, at a lecture that the government squandered foreign reserves running to several billions of dollars, Bakare berated the government’s spokesmen and the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for chasing the shadow and leaving the substance.

He said the CAN leadership failed to address the real issue on corruption but was chasing shadow. According to him, “CAN is expected to serve as the voice for the voiceless but it has turned itself into government appendage. It was the re-tweeting of figurative expression of Malam Nasir el-Rufai that the agents of diversion have latched onto in order to take our focus from the fundamental issues Ezekwesili raised and to which they have no answer.”

He said rather than the government giving a lucid, reasoned and mature response to Ezekwesili, “it went into all manner of tirades against her person, virulently attacking the messenger while ignoring the message. This puerile approach must have incensed many Nigerians with sense of decency and propriety in public affairs.”
