Fernandez Denies Reconcilation with Ex Wife

Contrary to a story published in a magazine suggesting reconciliation between international businessman, Anthonio Dehinde Fernandez, and his estranged wife, Aduke, the man has debunked the tale.
There was anger in his voice when he spoke to a source from Belgium, where he now spends more time with his wife, Halima.
“It’s a big lie,it will never happen, even in a million years’, he said. If you may recall, the former Central African Republic envoy to United Nation and Aduke parted in 2003 after she sued him in Scotland for 300million pounds, a divorce considered to be one of world’s 20 most expensive.

Husband to keep wealth secret

Published on Wednesday 2 July 2003 01:00

A JUDGE has refused a wife’s bid to force her diplomat husband to disclose his financial resources as she prepares for the biggest divorce case ever heard in Scotland.

Aduke Fernandez wants a share of assets held by her husband Chief Oladeinde Fernandez - who is also known as Ambassador Antonio Deinde Fernandez - which she believes are worth 600 million.

But the chief maintains they are not validly married and so she is not entitled to financial provision on divorce.

Mrs Fernandez, of Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh, has lodged papers at the Court of Session.

An address for her husband, a Yoruba chief aged 66 who served as the Central African Republic’s ambassador to the United Nations, was given as care of the Ritz Hotel in Paris.

Mrs Fernandez’ counsel Charles Macnair QC told a preliminary hearing that: "Expenditure was, by any stretch of the imagination, lavish." Mr Macnair asked the court to grant an order providing details of the diplomat’s resources within seven days.

His motion was opposed as premature and because it was not thought viable for the chief to comply within that period of time.

One reason for opposition was stated as: "The parties are not validly married and as such the pursuer [Mrs Fernandez] is not entitled to financial provision on divorce."

Lord Brodie said he was not satisfied that there was a basis at this stage for the court granting the order and refused the application. The judge pointed out proceedings were at an early stage.

He added: "It has been explained to me by both parties the defender is a man of considerable means, whose financial interests may not be straightforward."

He said that it seemed to be impractical to require him to fulfil an order within seven days.

The judge also noted that there was an issue between as to whether they were married and said: "It is not accepted that these parties are married and that is an additional factor which I think it is appropriate to have regard to at this stage."

The African diplomat previously came to notice when he successfully applied for permission to build an orangery in the back garden of the house in Drumsheugh Gardens in the West End area of Edinburgh.

EXCLUSIVE: Yoruba tribal leader to build orangery in New Town

SURROUNDED by discreet offices, seven-storey townhouses and boutique hotels, Drumsheugh Gardens is one of Edinburgh’s more prestigious addresses.
On a street that fronts a private garden of carefully-tended lawns and mature trees, with views from the rear to Dean Village and across the Firth of Forth, every property in this exclusive quarter of the city centre is highly sought after.
But behind the dark green door, the eccentric behaviour of the neighbourhood’s latest occupant has set the New Town’s chattering classes ... well, chattering.
The billionaire African diplomat Antonio Deinde Fernandez has already spent more than 200,000 transforming his seven-storey townhouse by applying 1,000 books of gold leaf to the ornate cornicing and balusters.
The Central African Republic’s ambassador to the United Nations travels across the world in one of six private jets and enjoys being chauffeured around in a pink Rolls-Royce. When dining out, he takes over the entire restaurants to avoid encountering riffraff.
A Yoruba tribal chief, his family motto is "agbomeji kii momi nikoto", meaning "two rams cannot drink from the same bucket". one report which quoted Mr Fernandez's income as (pounds) 90m a month
Now the flamboyant Nigerian has astonished neighbours by asking for - and being granted - permission to build an orangery in his back garden.
On Wednesday, amid mundane requests for replacement windows and garage extensions, councillors in Edinburgh granted the ambassador permission to proceed with the orangery in the grounds of the B-listed building, despite the objections of the Edinburgh World Heritage Trust.
The application is the latest sign that Ambassador Fernandez, who also has a luxurious home in New York, plans to spend more time in Edinburgh. However, his intentions are difficult to fathom as he remains deeply private about his plans.
Yesterday, his agent in Edinburgh, JR Marshall, refused to comment about the ambassador’s home improvement ideas.
Even neighbours know little about the 65-year-old, or why he has decided to buy a home in the capital.
Liberal Democrat councillor Moyra Forrest, a member of the planning committee, admitted she was in the dark about the applicant and his reasons for building an orangery.
She said the council committee passed the application, for a timber frame conservatory with octagonal cupolas, very quickly.
Ms Forrest explained: "There was no debate about it. It sounded so wonderful that we passed it."
Ambassador Fernandez is a prominent businessman and has been described as one of the richest men in Africa.
Ovation International, the African equivalent of Hello! magazine, described him as the "guardian of panache and prosperity" and was so pleased to secure a photo shoot with him that it spread the feature over 40 pages.
The magazine said: "Renowned and well-known around the globe, the tall, dark and refined man of commerce and diplomacy is an embodiment of good form, surrounding himself with exquisite things only money can buy."
A graduate of Columbia University, Ambassador Fernandez insists on travelling in style and his private jets are said to be furnished with every possible convenience. His fortune is said to be based on exports of bauxite, oil and diamonds.
His home in New York is a well-fortified island with all the services of a small town, including a fire station.
In his native Lagos Island, he has built a tower named after himself.
Alongside business interests, Ambassador Fernandez has a diplomatic career stretching back to 1966 and is the Central African Republic’s UN representative. He is on first-name terms with several world leaders, doubles as the republic’s deputy minister of foreign affairs, and is head of the oil company Petro-Inett.
But his career has not been without controversy. The ambassador has a long track record of unconventional business deals in Africa and is said to have made powerful enemies.
In 1989, he tried, unsuccessfully, to use his diplomatic immunity to prevent his former American wife from being awarded title to the couple’s 4 million estate in New York as part of a divorce settlement.
The wrangle went as far as the Oval Office, with former President George Bush being briefed on the appeal.
Earlier this year, Ambassador Fernandez threatened to sue the decorating firm Ogilvie J Rolland after it posted pictures of the work it had done on hisEdinburgh property on its website.

Family / Black (nigerian) Parents Give Birth To White Baby by K3L3CH1: 9:56am On Jul 20, 2010
A BLACK couple coo over their new baby yesterday - a white, blue-eyed BLONDE.

British Nmachi Ihegboro has amazed genetics experts who say the little girl is NOT an albino.

Dad Ben, 44, a customer services adviser, admitted: "We both just sat there after the birth staring at her."

Mum Angela, 35, of Woolwich, South London, beamed as she said: "She's beautiful - a miracle baby."

Ben told yesterday how he was so shocked when Nmachi was born, he even joked: "Is she MINE?"

He added: "Actually, the first thing I did was look at her and say, 'What the flip?'"

But as the baby's older brother and sister - both black - crowded round the "little miracle" at their home in South London, Ben declared: "Of course she's mine."

Blue-eyed blonde Nmachi, whose name means "Beauty of God" in the Nigerian couple's homeland, has baffled genetics experts because neither Ben nor wife Angela have ANY mixed-race family history.

Pale genes skipping generations before cropping up again could have explained the baby's appearance.

Ben also stressed: "My wife is true to me. Even if she hadn't been, the baby still wouldn't look like that.

"We both just sat there after the birth staring at her for ages - not saying anything."

Doctors at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup - where Angela, from nearby Woolwich, gave birth - have told the parents Nmachi is definitely no albino.

Ben, who came to Britain with his wife five years ago and works for South Eastern Trains, said: "She doesn't look like an albino child anyway - not like the ones I've seen back in Nigeria or in books. She just looks like a healthy white baby."

He went on: "My mum is a black Nigerian although she has a bit fairer skin than mine.

"But we don't know of any white ancestry. We wondered if it was a genetic twist.

"But even then, what is with the long curly blonde hair?"

Professor Bryan Sykes, head of Human Genetics at Oxford University and Britain's leading expert, yesterday called the birth "extraordinary".

He said: "In mixed race humans, the lighter variant of skin tone may come out in a child - and this can sometimes be startlingly different to the skin of the parents.

"This might be the case where there is a lot of genetic mixing, as in Afro-Caribbean populations. But in Nigeria there is little mixing."

Prof Sykes said BOTH parents would have needed "some form of white ancestry" for a pale version of their genes to be passed on.

But he added: "The hair is extremely unusual. Even many blonde children don't have blonde hair like this at birth."

The expert said some unknown mutation was the most likely explanation.

He admitted: "The rules of genetics are complex and we still don't understand what happens in many cases."

The amazing birth comes five years after Kylie Hodgson became mum to twin daughters - one white and the other black - in Nottingham.

Kylie, now 23, and her partner Remi Horder, now 21, are both mixed race.

Even so the odds were estimated at a million to one.

The Sun told in 2002 how a white couple had Asian twins after a spermatozoa mix-up by a fertility clinic.

Yesterday three-day-old Nmachi's churchgoing mum Angela admitted that she was "speechless" at first seeing her baby girl, who was delivered in a caesarean op.

She said: "I thought, 'What is this little doll?'

"She's beautiful and I love her. Her colour doesn't matter. She's a miracle baby.

"But still, what on earth happened here?"

Her husband told how their son Chisom, four, was even more confused than them by his new sister.

Ben said: "Our other daughter Dumebi is only two so she's too young to understand.

"But our boy keeps coming to look at his sister and then sits down looking puzzled.

"We're a black family. Suddenly he has a white sister."

Ben continued: "Of course, we are baffled too and want to know what's happened. But we understand life is very strange.

"All that matters is that she's healthy and that we love her. She's a proud British Nigerian."

Queen Mary's Hospital said: "Congratulations to Angela and her family on the birth of their daughter."

Politics / Alamieyeseigha Seeks Reinstatement As Governor by K3L3CH1: 11:07am On Jan 26, 2010

The Yenagoa High Court will, on Wednesday, January 27, commence trial in a suit instituted by the former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha praying that the court compel the Federal Government and the National Assembly to reinstate him as the governor of the state.

The former Air Force officer lost the position when he was impeached in 2005 by the state House of Assembly after his indictment for corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The former governor had filed a suit earlier in 2005 after his removal from office, but a federal appeals court in Abuja had ruled that the case be returned to a high court in Bayelsa for retrial.Mr Alamieyeseigha, popularly called the Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation, was removed after he was indicted by a panel set up by the state government in 2005 to investigate allegations of financial recklessness against him.

A running battle with the then president of the country, Olusegun Obasanjo and an encounter with the London Metropolitan Police, which arrested him for money laundering, were also part of the problems that put paid to his governorship career.

He was replaced by his then deputy and current Vice President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan.

Executive battle

The former governor has also been enmeshed in a political battle with the current governor of the state, Timipre Sylva. c Some of his choice properties within and outside the country were confiscated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the aftermath of his impeachment and trial.

Mr. Alamieyeseigha had stayed out of politics since then, only to resurface during the state gubernatorial bye-election in which he surprisingly supported the incumbent governor against his nephew, Ebitimi Amgbare who contested under the platform of the Action Congress (AC).

NMA sad over treatment of Yar’Adua abroad

More Stories on This Section

In the midst of the ongoing controversies on President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s health, the national body of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has expressed displeasure that the nation’s first citizen could not receive medicare at home.
In a statement, Secretary-General of the association, Dr Kenneth Okoro, said: “The Nigerian Medical Association is embarrassed by a situation where the nation’s leaders do not have confidence in our health care delivery system.

While joining other well meaning Nigerians to pray for the quick recovery of President Yar’Adua, we are particularly saddened that in a nation blessed with world-class health professionals, treatments for ailments like pericarditis has to be sought outside Nigeria, yet, Defence takes such a huge chunk of our national budget while health is several steps below the ladder.
“Efforts to motivate health workers should include massive infrastructural development in the health sector,” he said.

Also reacting is Dr Osahon Enabulele, Chairman, Edo state branch of the Nigerian Medical Association. According to the former Gubernatorial aspirant, Edo state,
“President Yar’Adua’s ill health is a very serious issue for him, his family and Nigeria. I fervently pray for his recovery. However, I must say that his ill-health and the way it is being handled so far has done incalculable damage to the nation: its psyche, its health sector and its economy.

“His frequent medical trips abroad gives the impression that the nation’s top leadership lacks commitment to the nation’s health sector and the actualization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
“I would have expected Yar’Adua to use the circumstances of his ill health to empower and build confidence in the nation’s health care system. After all, his past and present ill-health is a condition that can be managed by medical experts in Nigeria. Even if it can’t be managed in Nigeria, what I expected Yar’Adua to have done (like King Fahd of Saudi Arabia did some years ago) is to import the so-called foreign experts and technology into Nigeria such that Nigeria gains.

“In the final analysis, I think the earlier the nation gets over this off and on state of the President’s health, the better for its citizens and its wealth. When the nation’s leadership is ill, then the country is ill. Obviously, an unhealthy nation cannot drive a productive economy. Such a nation will remain poor. May Almighty God heal Mr President and our struggling and troubled nation,” he said.

Corroborating the association’s mood, Dr Adedamola Dada, Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos state, said,
“The Nigerian Medical Association cannot advise Yar’Adua since the association has no details of the nature of his ailment.
“However, there is need for the President to improve the health system in the country so that nobody would have to travel abroad to seek medical attention. What would happen to the poor people who cannot do so? It is therefore a sacred duty binding on them to improve the health sector.”
