Politics / Re: Educate The North by kcjazz(m): 1:44am On May 18, 2011
It is not just about educating the North, in the absence of unlimited resources, if the government can focus on the education of girls and women, the North will be liberated from violence and crime. Female education is the key.

Well fans will be fans. We are a soccer loving country tongue

But on a serious note unemployment, NEPA and leadership problems have created this 'unhealthy' problem as you put it. In our country we fail to see the bigger picture and how different things connect to each other.

Where are the Ranchers Bees, BCC Lions, Stationary Stores and to cap it all our most commercialized and industrialized state Lagos does not have a soccer team except Julius Berger FC which am not sure is even in the Nigeria Premier League. In this era, Enyimba FC is the only other club that was up to something big but Orji Kalu left and it faded.

I don't see the love for the EPL as a problem rather I see it as a huge market for the Nigerian soccer league. The league needs to be restructured, NFF needs to step up, build smaller stadiums without tracks and television needs to come in. It is my dream that one day I will acquire Enugu Rangers, great club with a rich history and the stadium and show this guys how to make money in football.

Follow your dreams, life is too short to be unhappy in one place. At the end, you will regret the things you didn't do more than the things you did.

Have a transition plan and don't risk the wellness of your family but do it. Goodluck!

Meanwhile those saying this was from 2007, haha you are so funny but sorry there was no CPC in 2007 plus Maurice Iwu and his cohorts were more trusting then.

Sun of god:

Nigerian soildiers are the most 'Savage' as far as I'm concerned.

However the 'Air Strike' should not be at the ugandan army but at the 'Rebels' / 'Protesters'

Its now legal in international law.

Nigeria needs to 'flex its muscle' in Africa.

Flex which muscle? On people protesting against their Government's brutality? The Ugandan govt started it.

His I have a dream comment cool

"As a young man I saw visions: visions of Nigeria becoming a great country in the emerging continent of Africa; visions of Nigeria offering freedom to those in bondage, and securing the democratic way of life to those who had been lulled into an illusion of security under colonial rule…, I trust that I shall dream my dreams amid the peace and ever-increasing prosperity of the people of my native Nigeria. The motto of the independent federation of Nigeria is “Unity and Faith”. I pray that we may guard our unity and keep our faith.” (Summer 1960, London) ~ Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe

I'm a little concerned by this Transmission Company of Nigeria. Already, it is appearing to be the weakest link.

I'm starting to think that it should be privatized too, lest it slow down progress elsewhere.

Also, how will Nigerians react if/when the price of electricity is revised upwards by 4X? It is a necessary step, but they might respond poorly.

Poorly I guess, but if the govt is sincere, then they can make things happen.
I don't blame the consumers for their skepticism, but whatever needs to be done must be done with results and a sense of urgency and btw I hope all govt agencies have paid up.

I do not know the capacity now but I am 100% sure of the truth that a lot of power projects are going on and many more are about/yet to start -though awarded. As I said, it is a progressive process. Lets continue to pray.

Well, according to the Power Reform plan of the FG, there are deliverables for April 2011, so if we have 750MW, sounds good but the real question is are we reaching the goals we set for ourselves? Cos if not, like all projects we spend more money and waste more time. I would prefer we over achieve on those goals. Lets wait and see where we are by December.

haha! I would prefer an Ogboni Rochas than a "born again" Christian Ohakim who loots and flogs Rev Fathers any time any day. This is just part 1, May 29 will be time for EFCC turn to pick up Ohakim.

Ohakim lost when he flogged the priest, he could have rigged his way in if he didn't do that. Don't mess with my people's religion

Politics / Re: Fg Pegs Carrying Capacity Of 9 New Varsities At 500 Students by kcjazz(m): 1:49am On May 05, 2011
ekt_bear:

So you'd suggest raising the money from the students, I guess? That is fine, but means that only those who can afford to pay (or who can borrow money, I guess) will be educated.

Not really, I don't subscribe to free education at the University level. I feel schools have to be run with a better plan; student fees is only one source but a plan helps them to diversify their sources of income.
Another issue is we don't know the funding arrangement. Are this new schools funded with the same allocation as OAU, ABU or is the government saying smaller numbers means lesser money to spend? In both cases problem of quality will not be solved.

On another look at the article, seems to me the cap is on a yearly admission basis.
Politics / Re: Fg Pegs Carrying Capacity Of 9 New Varsities At 500 Students by kcjazz(m): 1:01am On May 05, 2011
Is this a forever arrangement or new school arrangement? Cos it is normal for a new school to admit fewer folks in order to get the ball rolling.

My issue is with funding, I feel most schools, like states are too dependent on the FG and it limits creativity and ways to manage revenue.
Plus how big are this schools? If we are talking 2 storey buildings then maybe this is good start but if we are talking ABU Zaria type size, then maybe we are wasting our resources.

Gadhafi is a manipulator. This is not the first time he has escaped bombing while visiting his children. The following days will tell if it is indeed true about the casualties identity or he is playing victim again.

Not to justify any of this but by the way, he has being killing other peoples children, his own people. He has tried and he should go. Simple!

I am not related to Ohakim in anyway!!! You guys should should be a bit humane and considerate when rubbishing governor Ohakim. What will some of you do if on the 7th of May or so he is announced as the winner? I bet most of you will keep mum and get back to your normal life. How on earth are you guys convinced that ROCHAS will be a better leader than Ohakim? All of you should remember that it is easier to critise from a distance than to be in the business of leading or  governing a state.

Imo State is at a cross roads. And yes Rochas is better than Ohakim. What you see happening is voters revolt from 1999, the rigging has being crazy and I can say that PDP has never won a clear election in Imo. The people are tired and may their voices be heard. It says a lot when the local zoning arrangement is abandoned by the people.

Imo needs development, Rochas is eyeing the Presidency, match made in heaven. Hopefully, he will do well for the state. With the education crisis in this country, any one who invests in free education in Owerri, Jos, Ibadan and Kano plus a free University in the works, is a visionary and surely deserves to lead.  At the end any sane person can make 90% of a Governors decision, it is the 10% that will take us to the next level that is what we vote for. My LG Ngor Okpala will vote Rochas

Good idea dude.

As other posters have said we need a high literacy rate and also a strong political will. Every innovation thrives on political capital. So we need to set up structures for INEC and also other bodies like the Judiciary, NCC because if we don't set up structures the best innovations with the best intentions will suffer frustrations but at least we can start with a mix with the current set up.

Me thinks the current system places so much power on the ballot paper and that results in rigging and possibly the killings.

In case you don't know anything about law enforcement, no reasonable govt in this world buys bullets hoping to use it on it's own citizenry. So Jonathan should have stacked the police stations with guns and bullets to use on voters right ?

If an entire village chooses to act like savages from the medieval period don't blame it on the govt. This is 2011, and it's evident that mass illiteracy is still present with us.

If they don't buy bullets Mr Security expert, then they should have backup plans and ways to disperse crowds at least to save the corpers.

I see, there is nothing that will make you accept that the FG has a responsibility to protect its citizens or its workers NYSC. At least there is a N700,000 life insurance policy on their heads.

The same government says the attacks were not spontaneous but pre-planned, what happened to security reports and back-up for the police in this hot areas. More so, is it the citizens fault for being illiterate or the government have something to with it?

No one is worth dying for politics in this country, what we can do in memory of those that have lost their lives is to hold governments accountable for their jobs and protecting lives. The buck stops at the FGs desk not Buhari, Musa or Abdul.
Hint***Some folks will probably lose their lives in places like Imo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom today during the guber election and as usual we will blame Buhari.

Politics / Re: Nigerian Election (INEC) Staff Ask For Life Insurance by kcjazz(m): 10:20pm On Apr 25, 2011
Insurers can pay INEC’s N168b compensation, says NAICOM

THE National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has said insurance companies have the capacity to pay the N168 billion compensation for those insured by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against any incidents during the ongoing election.
Commissioner for Insurance Mr Fola Daniel told The Nation that the industry has been repositioned to handle large risks, adding that claims arising from the elections would be paid promptly.

He urged the public to embrace insurance because it remains the best strategy to mitigate risks. He noted that the companies handling the election policy would act promptly on the claims from the last Suleja and Maiduguri bomb blasts.
He said: "Insurance mechanising is real and the era where companies fail to pay genuine claims is gone. People should believe in insurance mechanism, which is the best way to mitigate risks.
"For INEC’s insurance cover for the election, the individual companies have the capacity to pay the claims which have reinsurance backing the risks."
He said NAICOM was pleased that adequate insurance cover was provided by the INEC for the commission will collaborate with the agency to ensure that adequate claims are paid promptly to beneficiaries of those who lost their lives as well as those wounded in the bomb blast.
Head of Corporate Communications, Standard Alliance Insurance Plc, Mr Nelson Egboboh, said his company, which is one of the underwriters of the risk, is poised to pay claims promptly, adding that INEC has paid its premium for the risks.
He urged the public to always consider insurance as a means of mitigating uncertainties.Egboboh could not confirm if INEC has filed claims for the bomb blast incidence.
Insurers are to pay about N11.2million claims for officers and ad-hoc staff of INEC who died in bomb blasts.
The risk, which was covered by six insurance firms, provides a total life insurance compensation package of N168 billion, with each officer and ad-hoc staff having a cover up to N700, 000.
The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, at a press conference in Abuja, said the victims were covered with life insurance. Prior to the incidence, Jega, said the value of the insurance coverage, is at the rate of N700, 000, each for the corps member who loses his/her life during the voters registration and voting exercise, adding that the group life insurance package for the exercise, provides a total life insurance compensation package of N168 billion.
In the insurance package, INEC insured its vehicles on a zoning arrangement, with six insurance firms. Law Union & Rock Insurance is in charge of the Northeast (Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe stateswink.
Consolidated Hallmark Insurance is in charge of North central (Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau states, and the Federal Capital Territory).
Guaranty Trust Insurance covers South east (Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states).
Fin Insurance oversees Southsouth (Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers states).
Mutual Benefit Assurance, Southwest (Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo states ) and Leadway Assurance, Northwest which takes care of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
AIICO is responsible for vehicles at INEC headquarters.

It seems some folks are bent on absolving the government from their duties. What about security reports? Even INEC listed hot spots for the election and what did the govt do?. The issues in the North has swept under the carpet the skirmishes in places like Bayelsa during the same period, or is that one Buhari too?

Tomorrow is guber elections, potential hotspots are Imo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Delta, lets see what will happen tomorrow.

Why sue a private citizen when there is a government that is supposed to protect citizens according to the constitution?

Am not a lawyer but you have no chance sueing Buhari, however you have a great chance to sue the FG for failing to protect citizens and NYSC members who are supposedly sent out to foster "unity" and died in course of discharging their civic duties.

It is time we review the NYSC and more so I believe families must sue the FG for compensation.
