Politics / Re: Alamieyeseigha's Pardon: Bill Gates Cancels Trip To Nigeria by Kewt: 12:04pm On Mar 18, 2013
mukina2: America’s richest man, Bill Gates, has cancelled his scheduled March 27 official visit to Nigeria, in response to the controversial pardon granted by President Goodluck Jonathan to ex-convicts Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Shettima Bulama, PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively report today.

Mr. Gates was due in Nigeria March 27 and 28 to meet President Goodluck Jonathan, state governors and officials of the Federal Ministry of Health concerning the aggressive polio eradication campaign his Bill and Melinda Foundation is undertaking in the country.

That trip, authoritative diplomatic sources said, has now been cancelled, two days after the U.S. government expressed disappointment with its Nigerian counterpart for pardoning convicted money launderers and warned it might cut aid meant for the country.

“I can confirm to you that Mr. Gates won’t be coming as scheduled,” one of our sources told PREMIUM TIMES Monday morning. “The body language of Washington D.C. does not support his travelling to Nigeria. The thinking here is that the Nigerian government has high tolerance level for corruption and should be ostracized in all ways possible.”

Our sources said Mr. Gates has already instructed his staff to inform the Nigerian presidency, the secretariat of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Federal Ministry of Health that he was no longer coming.

Presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, did not answer or return calls seeking comment. Contacted, the Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Asishana Okauru, said he would have to check with his staff whether any such communication had come from Mr. Gates’ office. He did not answer or return subsequent calls. Mr. Gates’ office is not opened as at the time of this report as calls were unanswered.

But checks by this newspaper indicate that the U.S. government has dissuaded Mr. Gates from coming to Nigeria.

“The State Department has advised him that Nigeria is not conducive for such visit at this time,” another source said. “We hope that the Nigerian government will get the message and return to the path of sanity.”

Oshiomole was on point. So is Wole Soyinka, Fashola and other well meaning Nigerians that were bold enough to call a spade by it's name.

The good governance tour was conceived by Labaran Maku to amass funds for his Governorship ambition in 2015. GEJ being silly and clueless and presiding over a weak federal govt bereft of ideas and desperately looking for any positive news to boost it's dying image approved it without giving it a second thought.

Well, the Governors' forum (which oshiomole is a member) may have agreed when the idea was tabled before them, but I believe Maku did not provide the cost details to be incurred on the said trip. Most of them Governors were neck dip before realizing what they got themselves into and could not back out for fear of the negative news it might attract to the federal govt.

Learnt from a reliable source that Maku came up with a budget of N180m to be coughed out by Edo state Govt as her contribution towards the execution of the tour in Edo state.

This over bloated amount was reported to have angered Oshiomole and resulted in his refusal to fund the GGT trip.

I knew the whole event was a charade when i watched Maku on NTA commending Uduaghan and giving him a passs mark for the GREAT transformational development in Delta state.

Imagine how much Liebaran Maku would have realized by the time he's done touring 36 states plus the FCT. Indeed it is good to work with a boss who's Intelligent quotient is less than 2.5. Maku simply saw an opportunity and he ceased it as a sharp man.

The only regret as always, is: It's all at the expense of the common Nigerian.

I just tried this solution now. It worked like magic. I suggest you leave this thread on front page so that new nairalanders who just started using etisalat and are having this problem, will be promptly advised.

Also, I observed it is browser specific. As it is most common with Opera browsers. Firefox does not have this problem.

Thanks.

solopumpy227:

Do you know something we dont know? What good works are you talking about?. I have been trying to follow a thread, purportedly, opened by insecere9gerian to showcase GEJ's achievements but I am yet to be dissapointed about my belief that GEJ lacks all it takes to be a fruitful leader. I have seen genuine and deliberate effort for development in Lagos, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom to mention a few-these are evidenced by various verifiable pictures/videos posted by lackeys/fans of these government but I have not seen any heart-warming evidence of any project started and completed by GEJ at Aso-Rock or even back then in Yenagoa.

However, I totally agree with you that there seem to be deliberate efforts at sabotaging GEJ' government by some Northern elements but that is not an excuse for the President to continue failing in deligently discharging his duties. In a bunch of Banana there will always be a bad one and with over 150 million people to lead a good leader must be ready to celebrate merits, purnish offenders, uphold justice and equity. Jonathan found it easy to shift burden of subsidy on already impoverished Nigerians when all evidence showed people were being paid for services they were not rendering. He even sent soldiers to trample them and allowed the rich to get richer at detriment of the poor masses. He budgetted billions for food while he has the record of having largest entourages to many global events while people are dying of basic needs of life. Ezekwezile has thrown his government a challenge they still cant find a convincing reply to. His government is being used as a case study for 'suffering in the midst of plenty' by the world super-powers. He lies and if there is anything consistent about him its the fact that he is inconsistent. Tell me how is GEJ' profligacy, inhumane treatment of the downtrodden and absolute lack of direction the fault of the North? Do they have a remote controller to his brain?

On the new level of corruption being institutionalised by GEJ/PDP how can you possibly blame it on someone else? We entrusted GEJ with our mandate and our wellbeing. He has the powers to hire resourceful aids and fire corrupt/unproductive ones. GEJ government is planning an Abuja city gate with N7B, a women bla bla center with tens of Billion Naira, and eating with billions of naira. Was he forced to conceive all these waste by the North when millions cannot afford 3 square meals? Maina illegally kept N32B of aged people to serve personal gains and did not arouse any for of indignation from GEJ but he 'aided' him to walk.

My brother most people are less concerned about where the President is coming from,we just need hope for good roads, constant power-supply, reliable medical centres but GEJ inclinations negate everything any rational Nigerian could dream of.

Well said.

people like this, are the reason why Nigeria will remain backwards!

All these are expected. The movie has just begun.

Now watch out for the following:

-N2N high definition Campaigns
-Several interest support groups with names like Youth Arise for Nigeria YAN, Concerned citizens of Nigeria CCN, Niger-Delta Professionals etc (as in the days of Abacha) -calling on GEJ to contest
-A rapid depletion of our foreign reserves

Nigerians are in for it as this corrupt, selfish, clueless and dull man called Jonathan will stop at nothing until he achieves his aim: which is to rule Nigeria by whatever means for 8 years and of course with the tacit support of some greedy Nigerians.

Maybe if this topic came up 48 hours ago it would have influenced my choice.

I am an upwardly mobile businessman and was seriously at a cross road on which to buy between a blackberry and an android phone.

I eventually settled for a Samsung galaxy Ace and i seem to be enjoying it, though I have never used a BB.

Anything that will enable me attend to my mails immediately, and of course work with Excel, word and power point at an affordable cost is ok for me. The pinging is very irrelevaant and secondary.

Maybe guys that have used the phone variants ie BB, Android and Iphone should help by analysing the special advantage each of the phones have other the others. This could be a starting point for people with unbiased minds like ours!

Below are the few I have been able to come up with. Feel free to populate the list below as you may deem fit.

Blackberry
+Pinging
-Limitless download ability (this is mostly a fallacy as most network providers place a limit to what can be downloaded)

Androids
+Plan flexibility
-Ability to download different apps.

Iphones
Limit to applications' downloads due to incompatibility of it's system with most applications

Politics / Neighbor To Neighbor Commences Subtle Campaigns For GEJ 2015! by Kewt: 4:19am On Jan 23, 2013
Dear Nairalanders, below is an extract as provided from a former member of Neighbor to Neighbor on a recent invitation by N2N.

During last elections, i signed up for neighbour to neighbour volunteer group for Goodluck Jonathan from his campaign organization. Please dont get this wrong. I will never support GEJ even in my grave and i only signed up to neighbour to neighbour because i wanted to avail my self to their training so as to apply the methods to support my own candidate. this means during the time of registration, they collected my phone number. So As I was watching Nigeria's disappointing match this evening, this text message came to my phone and it reads:

The letter

[quote]Dear XXXX XXXXXXXXXX, We thank you for volunteering to get Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Elected at the last Elections. As volunteers we believe that we should. continue to support the man we campaigned and voted for.If you still totally believe in GEJ we
invite you to become a Gejites Volunteer. Our mission as. Gejites is to connect, educate and enlighten the entire populace of our fatherland with GEJ's
vision, ideas, programmes, policies, dynamism &transformational path to a very bright future for Nigeria. The philosophy and ideas behind Gejites is mirrored
after the highly successful Chavistas and Obama Volunteers. Note clearly that Gejites is not a campaign organisation for 2015.Pls come to our office
located at Plot 190,444 Road,Off 4th Avenue,Gwarinpa on 24th January, 2013 at 10am to fill out your volunteer form get your ID card, shown your gejites

money. www.gejites.com,08159077204 and info@gejites.com.

Receipient's comment:

I just can't stop laughing at this fools. They have collected money and they want others to come and work for free. Monkey they work bamboo they chop. And later they will say Goodluck Jonathan has not started campaign for 2015. With the current situation, it's only a mad man that will cast his vote for Goodluck Jonathan come 2015. The question is no longer wether he is contesting come 2015, because he will and campaign has already started. Note: I am not advertising this fools ooh, they have already said them no go give money oooh, so if you have plans to go work jaki work make others chop the money, na you sabi. Use ur head.ok

Oya let GEJ and his apologists come out and deny this one too like they did for the posters that founds their ways on the streets of Abuja on Jan 01 2013..

One thing I know for sure is this man is taking us for a ride.

Please feel free to drop your comments and thoughts on the above.

Mr Speaker is technically right on his assertion and his defence of the state house of assembly.

The constitution is indeed silent on how long an acting elected public officer should be absent before his deputy can be sworn in.

In a country like Nigeria, it means a Governor can win elections and after a few weeks, hand over to his deputy in order to go for vacation and return in 4 years time to present himself for another election.

Danbaba Suntai's case is a dead end with no body raising any alarm and Liyel Imoke's is assuming similar dimension.

They are only exploiting the loop holes in a flawed constitution handed over to us by the military, for their personal gain.

The painful part of it is that, they have as collaborators, people (house of assembly members) who are ordinarily meant to fight against and defend the interest of the common man!

2cute: Whitney Houston murdered by drug dealers:
Just saw this on yourjewishnews.com and decided to share:

Whitney Houston was not killed by a drug overdose, which is the reason given according to official reports, rather she was murdered by drug dealers, according to a new shocking report by a private investigator.

Whitney Houston was murdered, according to the claims of private investigator Paul Huebl published in the National Enquirer.

The Hollywood, California detective allegedly uncovered evidence including CCTV video which shows her to be the victim of an attack by two men who were sent to collect a drug debt.

The problematic singer, who died on February 11, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton, is said to owe more than $1.5 million to drug dealers before her death shocked in Los Angeles, California.
"I have evidence showing that Houston fell victim to high powered thugs who were sent to collect a huge debt owed to drug dealers," he told the newspaper.

He also believes that despite the coroner's report that claims there was no foul play involved, the signs on her body tell a different story.
"Houston’s body showed classic defense wounds that would have occurred while she was fighting for her life," he told the newspaper.

Huebl claims to have discovered new information through a network of informants and said that he turned over the new evidence the FBI with the intention that the case be reopened.
Source:
http://www.yourjewishnews.com/Pages/24885.aspx
http://now.msn.com/whitney-houston-murdered-by-drug-dealers-claims-national-enquirer-report

But why will a creditor want to kill a debtor?

Of what benefit is the death of a huge debtor to a creditor?

This line of reasoning defies reasonable logic.

This private investigator Paul Huebl might just be an attention seeker!

Had this neighbour (a banker) whose Generator was directly behind my window.

He puts it on when he returns from work in the evening and never puts it off till the next morning as it runs through out the night.

If Nepa carry light by 1am, 2am or 3am, he go put am on by that time.

Whenever he travels out of town, our compound enjoys an abnormal kind of silence which everyone cherishes.

I used to imagine how much he spends on fuel and maintenance of the gen.

To cut a long story short, Mr Banker neighbour was dismissed from the bank he works because of fraud I think cos he works in internal control/Audit department and he had to sell all of his properties the big gen inclusive, to offset the debt brought about by the fraud cos the bank took him to court.

And that was the end of the gen disturbance story.

Not happy about what happened to him though, but thanked God that the noise making generator is no longer a problem and we all can enjoy our sleep at night.

**Did i add that our area is a forgotten area to Nepa/Phcn as we hardly enjoy 3hrs of stable electricity daily?**

God help us!
