Reason dogma? So you are comparing wanting everyone to believe in a naked dead guy to wanting everyone to be reasonable?

A secular political process is the embodiment of freedom. Everyone can make his or her choice in what they want to believe without being pressured by the state to believe a certain way.

That's what Political Liberalism stands for. Pluralism, plain and simple.

End of discussion. As Ibime said, let's not derail this thread.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Sarah Palin Is A Mistake by KojoAseda(m): 5:29pm On Sep 09, 2008
Sure, your point stands that you are religious person whose political views are based on his religious believes, in this case, his beliefs in science and reason, trying to tell other religious people to separate their religion from politics.

Yes, people should by all means separate their religion from their politics. I don't want to have to live according to Christian dogma - I don't believe in Jesus.

And please - clarity!

"Anyone who underestimates the intelligence of Americans is on to a sure money-maker" - Famous quote.

As usual, the uneducated redneck voter will believe anything you tell him about Obama's Senate record.

That propaganda about Obama only passing one bill into law to do with the Congo is a sure-fire tactic to play on racial fears.

i.e: Obama is only concerned about Africa.

And these two suckers, Negro Ntns and Tayo-D got sucked into it.

"The fly wey follow dead body enter grave will also be buried." - Famous Igbo quote.

They would have you believe that Obama is a lazy, colly-muddling freeloader only living off hype whilst the evidence to date points to a different story. This is a highly educated, sophisticated and successful young black man who has worked very hard to get where he is. And he didn't do it by nepotism or by marrying into rich society. . . . he did it by hardwork. Every last drop of sweat was expended to get where he is. I don't need to tell you the difficult challenges that one needs to overcome for a man from his background to be where he is today. Many of us have gone and are going through it and can definitely relate.

Great post.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Sarah Palin Is A Mistake by KojoAseda(m): 5:17pm On Sep 09, 2008
What religion? Perhaps I follow an ideology that embraces science and reason as alternatives to faith, but I would never call that "religion."

Even if that's true, my point still stands. If America elects McCain-Palin the country will continue down the road to Christian fascism that it started traveling eight years ago. Our economy will continue to crumble and our civil rights will be rapidly eroded. That has nothing to do with my religious views, that has to do with the platform of the Right-wing Christian fundamentalists.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Why Do Most Nigerians Want Obama To Win? by KojoAseda(m): 5:14pm On Sep 09, 2008
Why does Nigeria want Obama to win? Why does anyone want Obama to win?

Because a McCain-Palin administration would continue to destroy the image of America in the world and give fuel to other rising regimes like China, India, and Russia. Those countries, by the way, are much more likely to embrace neo-colonial roles and radically exploit the "developing world." Once the United States is out of the picture, those countries won't hesitate in extracting all of the resources they want from under the developing world's feet.

Believe me, it's in everybody's best interest (except the rich, white warmongering corporations in America) that Barack Obama is elected.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Sarah Palin Is A Mistake by KojoAseda(m): 5:09pm On Sep 09, 2008
Sarah Palin has all of the characteristics of a close-minded, Christian fundamentalist. Her positions are extremist and she's a corrupt hypocrite.

So how will things go for McCain-Palin? Probably just fine.

If there's one thing you have to understand about Americans, it's that we are ignorant and completely ungrateful for the freedom that so many of us have fought for. Americans have been completely bought out by the media and Christian fundamentalism. We shake our fingers at Iran for being extremist while trying to outlaw homosexuality and basic freedom in our own country.

Obama is really the last great hope in this godforsaken country.

Religion is poison to the political process.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Saddleback Presidential Forum..obama vs mccain(my friends) by KojoAseda(m): 4:58am On Sep 08, 2008
Religion should stay out of politics. I loathed the Saddleback forum. McCain was totally prepped on everything and it was a total power play by the Christian fundamentalists.

Religion / Re: What If Obama Is The Anti-Christ? by KojoAseda(m): 4:51am On Sep 08, 2008
There will never be an anti-christ. Religion is a scam.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Obama Indirectly Sending Message To Nigerians. by KojoAseda(m): 4:49am On Sep 08, 2008
Barack Obama never disrespected Nigeria or Nigerians. It is illegal to accept foreign contributions during a political campaign. Furthermore, there is no reason to expect any praise for corrupt scams. The government of Nigeria has to crack down on 419 scams if it wants to increase the countries respectability, but for the meantime Nigeria remains a shady investment and any money that runs through it is in a precarious situation. It has nothing to do with Nigerians and everything to do with the Nigerian government not being serious about its economy's legitimacy.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Mccain Gets First Lead In The Polls by KojoAseda(m): 4:44am On Sep 08, 2008
The last thing we need to do is drill for more oil. We need to develop alternative energy resources, We need to stop raping the environment and spoiling the atmosphere
Foreign Affairs / Re: Mccain Gets First Lead In The Polls by KojoAseda(m): 4:43am On Sep 08, 2008
There are different polls, and this one is not necessarily representative of them all. Obama has a lead in the states that will determine the election: Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota, and Florida. I think once the debates start he's a gonna get in quite easily.

One thing you have to remember about American democracy is that it's not up to the absolute majority to elect someone. Each state has a certain amount of electoral votes which represent the individual votes. A person can win an election without having to get an absolute majority. If it sounds confusing it's because it is,
Religion / Re: Can A Christian Work At A Brewery? by KojoAseda(m): 5:26am On Aug 26, 2008
Coffee and coke don't have nicotine in them - they have caffeine in them. It's the same stimulant found in the kola nut.

Cigarettes have nicotine in them. Alcohol is alcohol.

Water is also addictive. I bet you'd have a hard time quitting.

Moderation is the key to enjoyment. If you abuse something - even food and water - it can be bad for your health.

There's nothing wrong with smoking a cigarette every now and then, or enjoying a few drinks on a Saturday night. There sure isn't anything wrong with working at a brewery. That's ridiculous.
Politics / Re: To Hell With Your Oil, North Tells South by KojoAseda(m): 3:22am On Aug 26, 2008
Many of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Resorting to ethnic hatred has never been fruitful or intelligent. Your government and their love affair with multinational oil companies are the ones who are really the ones who are at fault. Shell and ExxonMobil have always been about "divide and conquer."
Education / Re: Preparing For Gmat And Graduate School in The US by KojoAseda(m): 3:12am On Aug 26, 2008
though l'm an african, l can't but wonder what mr kojo is doin in such a rural setting and such person who cuts the pix of an adventurer come missionary doctor is in best position to advvice anyone on gre.
l stand to be corrected, and l really like being corrected!!!

I lived in Ghana for two years working with farmers in the Volta Region. I gave agroforestry workshops and founded some rural development projects.

Why I'm giving advice on the GRE? I am in graduate school in the U.S and have both taken the GRE and am familiar with how graduate school applications are reviewed.

San Diego is my hometown. It's a great place to live. Right by the beach, near Mexico, in the great state of California. Good scenery and lots of diversity. There's even a woman who cooks Ghanaian food on Saturdays near my house. Have you been out to Cali?
Education / Re: Preparing For Gmat And Graduate School in The US by KojoAseda(m): 2:03am On Aug 19, 2008
Cool. Congrats on coming to the U.S for your studies. How are you liking Ohio?
Education / Re: Preparing For Gmat And Graduate School in The US by KojoAseda(m): 1:56am On Aug 19, 2008
What subject do you study? That seems like a very interesting and unusual application experience you had. I'm certainly not trying to talk down the importance of the GRE. It can be crucial in some circumstances. For social sciences, humanities, and other liberal arts departments it's pretty common to put a strong emphasis on one's personal statement and GPA over their GRE score.

I am a M.A student at San Diego State University. Whereabout in the U.S are you staying?
Education / Re: Preparing For Gmat And Graduate School in The US by KojoAseda(m): 1:49am On Aug 19, 2008
Are you currently attending a graduate program in the U.S?
Education / Re: Preparing For Gmat And Graduate School in The US by KojoAseda(m): 1:28am On Aug 19, 2008
Your GPA is crucially important. If you have a low GPA in the field of study you're applying to, your chances are very small of getting accepted. The GRE won't get you out of that mess. If you're a strong candidate for that department, why would you have done poorly in your undergraduate classes in that field? You're better off trying to get into a different grad program that you have no experience in. Like I said before, write a strong personal statement!

RE: Knowing if the GRE is important to the school you are applying to.

You should know this because you should be emailing professors in the department which you are applying to. If the professors don't know who you are, they won't accept you into their program.
Education / Re: Preparing For Gmat And Graduate School in The US by KojoAseda(m): 1:02am On Aug 19, 2008
First, try and get a feeling for how important the GRE is to the school you are applying to. Believe it or not, the GRE is normally the least important part of the application process. More important is your resume and history of accomplishments. Most important, perhaps, is the strength of your personal statement. American universities look for ambition and diversity, not test scores.

If you have any specific questions send me a message.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm trying to get a Visa to visit Nigeria in December. Whereabouts in Nigeria are you?
Politics / Re: To Hell With Your Oil, North Tells South by KojoAseda(m): 12:55am On Aug 19, 2008
Ethnic hatred is rooted in ignorance. It takes a foolish mind to hate someone based on a stereotype. All stereotypes are false. Blood flows through every human body.

Nothing. But I respect women, that's all.
Politics / Re: To Hell With Your Oil, North Tells South by KojoAseda(m): 6:32am On Aug 04, 2008
The "oil curse." Yeah. Not only does oil cause intense corruption but it also builds an economy around imports and cash inflow. Cash is only as good as the supplies which it can purchase. Look at Gabon, on the verge of collapse. Nigerian GDP is 80% from fuel. Is that good? No. People they stop farming and move into the cities. No food, no life. You have almost 200 million people, what are you going to feed them with?

Africa is sickened by colonialism. I don't know what is to be done.

Does anyone here know of any relatively strong Anthropology departments at Nigerian universities? I graduated with a B.A from the University of California at Santa Barbara and an M.A at San Diego State University. I am interested in tourism in West Africa and would like to know of some good programs in Nigeria so I could hook up with some students to work with.

The Nigerian government needs to ban light off, not generators.
Sports / Re: Why Is Football The Global Game? by KojoAseda(m): 6:27pm On Aug 03, 2008
For some terrible reason, football hasn't become very popular in the United States. That's very unfortunate, because it is ten times better than any of our strange and limited sports. Football can be played anytime, anywhere, whereas American sports require all of this strange and expensive equipment.

African football is the greatest.
Family / Re: Why Do Most Educated Women Find It Very Difficult To Submit Their Husbands by KojoAseda(m): 6:24pm On Aug 03, 2008
Pride, arrogance, and selfishness are bad traits in either the man or the woman. A husband needs just as much humility and love as his wife. As for submission - submission is never a good thing.
