Culture / Re: The Most Ridiculous Bride Price You Have Ever Heard? by mairodi(f): 12:31am On May 16, 2013
As we use usd dollars in zim, bride price or lobola can range from three thousand to fifteen thousand us dollars or more. They also want at least six cows plus a suit..shoes..overcoat for dad and a constume..shoes..a hat and blanket for mom. Most people will pay cash but some take years to pay
Celebrities / Re: Peter Okoye Shows-Off His Louis Vuitton Sneakers by mairodi(f): 6:49am On Jan 30, 2013
i am amazed at responses. P square is not appreciated in naija. People always insult them. Outside naija these guys are famous and we love them. They have such talent. Showing off shoes, cars and houses is the norm of any celeb and we the followers love it.it has nothing to do with age or maturity. In fact peter is more entertaining than paul but we love em both. Dont open and comment on the celeb page if it hurts you. Stars are doing it daily overseas but u dont complain. If u dont support your own we will support for you

Travel / Re: Zimbabwe Visas From Nigeria by mairodi(f): 11:14pm On Jan 04, 2013
i think most zimbos suffering in sa went there without papers or even border jumped, looking for a better life. Some had nothing when they left zim and feel its not worth coming home. Some hv been in sa so long and dont know how things have changed. Most farms that were taken from whites are not productive hence zimbos go look for work at sa farms. Hostile sa farm workers drove them out and now they fill sa towns as beggars. Some are even used to the lifestyle. Come home please

Celebrities / Re: Mercy Johnson Looking Fly On Set by mairodi(f): 11:12am On Feb 24, 2011
Mercy Johnson looks fine, sassy and daring. Only a true celeb can wear those funky colours and get away with it. You dont have to match anything you wear. Start a trend, and if you feel good about it, you'll look as great as Mercy,

Oh Ola Olabiy ! sorry if I sounded annoyed, I'm not actually. This topic is to teach and not redicule us. I love everything about your country. It has a vibe that u cannot find anywhere in the world. The mixture of highrise buildings, slums, greenery, the markets, the traditions, the food. I'm hooked on the Nairaland site. God bless u

hello people! The way you find my saying "pregnant from" as wrong is the same way I find the saying "pregnant for" equally strange. I think u can agree with me that saying something a certain way all your life does not make it correct. Its just that its the way you know it, and if you hear it said differently, it sounds wrong. I am refering to all of us. I am not saying either of us is right. I was surprised to see people saying I am wrong. Anyway, can anyone else give us their input ( Not Naija's or Zimbos because it will be a long debate). Thanks

What about;
she's pregnant for David ? ( I see this in Nollywood movies), Dont get me wrong, I LOVE THEM
This is incorrect english, it should be "she's pregnat from David.

justwise, its so great to have someone say something positive about Zim. Zim is really nice. Right now things are so much better. We use the US dollar or Rand. Our shops are filled to capacity and we are smiling again. Are you a Nigerian? I really love everything about Nigeria, I love the vibe, the way they cook different dishes etc. God bless Africa

Zimbabwe is not as bad as you think people. The infastructure is fantastic, the roads maintained, state of the art malls, our universities are full of foreign nationals because of our level of education. We have good schools and there are opportunities for good jobs in this country. Yes, we have had our fair share of political problems but things are not as bad as they seem. Propaganda makes every country seem dirt poor but that not the case. Please google pics of Harare and U will be amazed at its beauty, sky scrapers, cleaniless etc. We have so many Nigerian nationals doing thrift business in our country because the opportunities are there. They live in beautiful safe leafy suburbs ( with running water, ) or mod duplex flats. Most of them have made Zimbabwe their home. l

Travel / Re: Namibia Picture Gallery: A Truly Nice Southern African Country by mairodi(f): 2:40pm On Aug 05, 2010
why do you say Namibia is a small country? If you look on the map of Africa, Namibia is the same size like Nigeria. As for it having one capital city, thats the norm with most countries in the world. Namibia is really nice but so is Nigeria in a different way. Most countries that were colonized by the west have beautiful strong buildings that last for many years. Well done to our african brothers who have been building and modifying their cities on their own. Lets stop comparing our countries for they are all beautiful in their own way. Different circumstances make some look better than others but Africa is wonderful and this is the place I rather be at.
Celebrities / Re: African 'light Skinned' Models! by mairodi(f): 10:25am On Jul 26, 2010
The first gir is refered to as "coloured" in Southern Africa. Most are from Cape Town and are a mixure of white and black and also "bushman" who live in the desert and are known to be fair skinned ( some with green eyes). The hair is long but most straighten it. Eye colour can be natural or contact lenses. She is indeed fair but not like an Albino. I think she is totally beautiful. The second girl is indeed an Albino, who although not beautiful, is fearfully and wonderfully made by God.
Celebrities / Re: Genevieve Nnaji or Omotola Jalade: Who Is More Beautiful? by mairodi(f): 12:46pm On Jun 29, 2010
this thread is about beauty, not body shape, age, colour, number of kids etc. I personally feel that both woman are extremely easy on the eye, and in my own personal opinion, Genevieve is fresh, cute and the most prettiest, and Omo is sultry, hot and the most beautiful. This is just my opinion because one man's meat is another's poison, but 9nja has declared both woman true essence of african beauty.

Family / Re: How Do You Deal With An Overstaying Mother In Law by mairodi(f): 12:45pm On Feb 02, 2010
I would never overstay at my son's home. I am widowed and sometimes feel lonely BUT I've managed to keep myself occupied with gardening and drawing and I have my circle of friends as well. I too have been a daughter-in-law and its not easy having 2 queens in the home. I have befriended my sons wife and we respect each other totally. Its her home and i cannot run it for her. I give her suggestions in a way that is not offensive because I treat her like my daughter but I also respect her space.
Family / Re: Would You Put Your Parents In A Nursing Home? by mairodi(f): 10:03am On Apr 08, 2009
My mother has had Alzheimers for the past 2 years. She does not know us or herself any longer. She has lost her memory and wears adult diapers. She was once a strong mother full of love and care but but now stared blankly into our eyes. Bathing my mother or changing her diaper has been a humbling experience for me. I do it proudly. We had to have a meeting and we decided NEVER to put my mother in a home. Most of the old folk are riddled with bed sores and rashes. She now resides with my older sister who is not employed and most of us go to work. Its not easy seeing your parent like that. It needs understanding and most of all love. A nursing home will never give my mother love, and love is needed for everything that is done for her today. I can still give her the same tablets at home. Its not like she's on oxygen or something.Taking care of your parent is not easy but I think its the best option, and when the time comes, it lets them die with dignity. Dignity of being clean, well fed and most of all loved. Its the best way to honour my mother, and I do it proudly.
Romance / Re: Why are Men not Crazy about Tall Girls? by mairodi(f): 2:10pm On Nov 26, 2008
Hi all

Every girl is beautiful, short or tall. Short men dont want tall girls ( and visa versa) because you cannot kiss and have sex at the same time. Period, No offence made, none taken
Celebrities / Re: Is It True That Ciara Is A Man? by mairodi(f): 10:30am On Aug 20, 2008
Ciara was born with both male & female genitals. Usually one gender out weighs the other. Ciara probably had a small disfunctional penis which they probably castrated and the scar was covered with pubic hair. She is more female because she has breasts and a womb and her features are female. She is a great artiste and it does not change anything. We cannot judge her because it was God's will.

Fashion / Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by mairodi(f): 9:13am On Jan 12, 2007
The big fashion mistakes are:

chipped name polish
shaved brows drawn with eye pencil to look like the witch of Oz
Bra riding high on your back
laddered stockings
shoes with no tips
blonde weaves on very black girls
static on clothes without fabric softner
Men with large wallets in their back pockets
chipped heels in sandals
Health / Re: How To Reduce My Bum: I'm Bootylicious! by mairodi(f): 8:45am On Jan 12, 2007
Dont know why people set J LO's bum as an example of a big bum. Its big for a latino but many black girls have far bigger ones, and not only fat girls, but the slim ones too!!!
Fashion / Re: What Brand Of Make Up Do You Use? by mairodi(f): 1:58pm On Oct 20, 2006
I use black opal powder but now its so expensive so i use constance carroll which is equally good. i have a constance carroll eyeliner and lipstick. I use Milano cream powder which is also wonderful. I am a mature grandmother of 48 years so I wear this make up very lightly, only to enhance my features
Family / Re: Polygamy: Do Women Really Find It Acceptable? by mairodi(f): 8:38am On Aug 30, 2006
I am 47 years old and I dont want to share my husband. Some will say its better for the man to bring the woman in the house because he will still be cheating on you out there. I feel that such a man will never be satisfied, thats why he keeps on bringing more woman home as wives. I rather have a man who will cheat but respect my feelings by not bringing the woman in my face. Its must be extremely painful to look at the woman your husband is sleeping with. I feel most women are forced to accept other wives because they fear the husband's might leave them. Men do not undestand how painful it is for a woman .Even if the wives pretend to love each other, there is always an element of jealosy. I had a friend whose husband took another wife. She said she would only be nice to the junior wife if her husband did not go to (the junior wife's) bedroom. She said if her husband went to the junior wife, the senior wife would give her hell. I do not support men taking multiple wives. If they contract AIDS, they all die. Some of these wives have boyfriends on the side. One wife is enough!!!!
TV/Movies / Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by mairodi(f): 7:35am On Aug 25, 2006
You are right, I am Zimbabwean. We watch more Nigerian movies than western movies. This also goes for Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and recently South Africa. We have good films like Tsotsi from SA but these are directed by whites and sponsered by the west. Nigerain movies are totally African. With time, they will be as polished as the American film industry. Infact, Nigerian movies are better than most Bollywood sing-song movies. Anyway, i am glad the week-end is here. I have hired 3 african movies which I will totally enjoy with my family . Adios
TV/Movies / Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by mairodi(f): 3:10pm On Aug 24, 2006
I love love love love Nigerian movies!! Most people in Southern Africa love these movies!! If we are not watching Africa Magic then we buy copies which are found all over. Yes, these movies may not be perfect in many ways but its a joy to watch movies done by "sons of the soil". I do not enjoy them when they try and make a replica of a western movie or show too much juju. I appreciate Ramsey, Jim Ike, St Obi, Patience Ozokwor, Rira Dominic and Genevieve. Keep it up Nigeria because Rome was not beuilt in a day
