Health / Re: Your Experience On Your First Hiv Status Test. by Mesef1: 3:14pm On Dec 02, 2010 |
I had the test in Abuja in 2005 as part of the pre-employment medicals for Platinum Bank (now Bank PHB) new hires. I was supposed to travel to Ibadan the next morning. I was at the motor park when my phone rang and it was the nurse at the hospital who was on duty during my examination the previous day. She said her Doctor would need to see me urgently that morning. Meeee, n! that was it, I thought. About 2 weeks before the test, I had some pleasant moments with one fling like that and the CD bursted in the process. There at the motor park, I started an argument within me that at least there is always a window period of about 6 months before it can be detected. Then again I thought, since there are many species of the virus, it could be a deadly one. I thought of the best way to commit suicide and all that. The thoughts were wild and nasty. You needed to see the thick sweat on my face, it was as if I just came out of the swimming pool! Somehow, I summoned courage and called bact the number that called me. The doctor picked it and when I asked him why he wanted to see me, he feigned ignorance of the first call. He said he wasn't aware I was supposed to come. About 5mins later, the nurse called me back and said actually, she forgot to take my height and weight measurements the previous day and she had to mention the Doctor's name so I could come by all means. When I told her about my tension and fears due to the way she called me earlier, she bursted into laughter! I have done the test 3 other times and I'm negative. |

violent: 25% of annual budget for National Assembly is really not factual. I think the poster did not report the correct statement. Sanusi's statement: Sanusi had, while delivering a lecture at the Igbenedion University, Okada, Edo State, on Friday, claimed that 25 per cent of the nation’s annual recurrent overhead was spent on lawmakers. Source: http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201012012344765 Sanusi may well be correct. Recurrent annual expenditure is not the same as annual budget. Funny, that the Senators are busy explaining that they get 3% of the annual budget. |
Politics / Re: Buhari/Tinubu Ticket In The Offing? by Mesef1: 3:54pm On Nov 30, 2010 |
@ Stranger Guy, thumps up for you. Sometimes when i read your comments on Tinubu, I go back to check if it wasn't posted by me. Like minds in that regard. I never knew there are people on this forum who share my view on that crook sonafabitch called Tinubu. Back to the topic: Buhari/Tinubu may not work. In fact accepting to run with Tinubu may be Buhari's greatest undoing in the southwest. Tinubu's acumen in SW politics has been exaggerated by the ACN victories of Ekiti and Osun States. The fact in those states is that the PDP sold themselves out by not institutionalizing internal democracy, the same mistake AD made in 2003 i.e. by imposing candidates even when they are clearly not popular. So, ACN being the opposition party jumped on the opportunity of the ensuing cracks and seized power. Even though Oyo and Ogun may be infected with ACN sentiments in the 2011 elections, it is not certain if that will translate into Buhari/Tinubu victory in the SW bearing in mind that the presidential election comes before the governorship. Naturally in the southwest, the presidential votes go where the governorship go. But it will be different this time. I would prefer Buhari considers Oshiomole/Fashola as running mate. Although both of them for reasons known to them have at one forum or the other resented the idea preferring to stay put as governors of their states. Fashola was said to have rejected the idea at one time when Tinubu first muted it because he saw it as Tinubu's ploy to take Lagos from him. Oshiomole would rather stay with a bird in hand than take a gamble with Buhari. In all, Buhari's chances would only become bright if PDP fails to present GEJ at the general elections. |
Politics / Re: The $50,000 Bribe Saga: Did Jonathan Try To Bribe SNG? by Mesef1: 12:45pm On Nov 30, 2010 |
But please what is this fuss about It is the tradition for the President to offer gift to people who come to visit him in Aso Rock. At least he has non-accountable security votes of several millions every month to accomodate this. I am convinced that the offer to SNG of a paltry $50,000 is not a bribe but a gift. $50,000 is nothing in Nigerian bribe history. Even governorship aspirants offer more! Let us even try to establish the motive. Is the SNG affiliated to PDP, such that its support will help GEJ beat Atiku at the PDP primaries? What does the average man on the street think or know about SNG?? Do they command a strong followership in Nigeria If at all GEJ will need the SNG, it will be for the general election and not when he is still having some headaches on how to cage Atiku's potent political machineries. I think there was a communication gap. A gift being misconstrued for bribe. |

Unlike, many people, If there's a reason for me to celebrate this at all, it will be for the fact that PDP is being disgraced and kept in check and not for the fact that Tinubu's business empire continues to soar! I am anti-one party state! A lot of folks celebrating this are oblivious of the fact that Aregbesola's governance of Osun State is a Tinubu's investment. Just like I sounded the warning to Ekiti people, OSUN - beware of TINUBU! |

jason12345: Well said my brother. The south-west people are the most resilient politically. Event of today and those of the past have shown that the South West does not condone FRAUD. Other smaller parties like APGA, CPC, PPA should go to the AC to learn election monitoring. A friend in the Aregbesola's camp in Osun State told me of the many hi-tech equipments the AC use in monitoring elections (the LP used the same gadgets in Ondo State). He said from the depth of evidences they have on malpractices perpetrated by PDP, AC would win at any tribunal on earth. Now he has been vindicated. I think these events show clearly the weakness of PDP i.e. their style of rigging that has now been well known and countered. It is now fairly easy for any party to beat the PDP despite their rigging prowess. They should just invest in gathering quality evidences. |
Politics / Re: I Want Jonathan To Lose PDP Primaries by Mesef1: 7:24pm On Nov 24, 2010 |
monkeyleg: Monkeyleg, Looking outside the PDP is looking for a needle in the middle of the ocean. I think people who are suggesting the implosion of PDP are the lazy ones. Here are my reasons for saying that: 1. Except we like to decieve ourselves, no other party has the reach, the structure and the financial muscle that the PDP boasts. 2. Checking out all the alternatives, no existing party is worth following! Yes, none. Tinubu's ACN is comprised of disgruntled members of the PDP and AD of yesteryears (Tom Ikimi and Co). ACN is not genuinely progressive. They are just waiting for the opportunity to give you a worse government than PDP especially as Tinubu's godfatherism holds sway there. APGA is too sectional to be taken seriously. ANPP is dying slowly because of intolerance and dictatorship of Buhari before they booted him out. ANPP is still directionless and being led by known losers like Ogbonnaya Onu and John Oyegun all of whom have lost relevance in their various states. I think the wise thing to do is for well meaning Nigerians to penetrate the PDP and hijack it from the anti-progressives. PDP is a gold mine if the progressives can come together in strong force to depopulate it of these rogues parading themselves as leaders. If we (the progressives) would rally Jonathan and help him win the presidency, we might just stand a chance to outsmart all these guys for good because GEJ's temperament (i may be wrong here) suggests he might be inclined to teaming up with vibrant, honest and focus young men who will turn-around this country. I may be wrong, but this is the only thing that seems plausible to me at the moment. |

Politics / Controversial Bill: Legislators Are Rascals - Hon Obahiagbon by Mesef1: 1:02pm On Nov 24, 2010 |
The National Assembly has concluded plans to go ahead with the process of amending the 2010 Electoral Act (First alteration) in spite of the public outrage against it. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Ayogu Eze, who made this known at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, said the public hearing on the bill seeking to amend the Act might begin on Thursday. Section 84 of a bill which seeks to make federal lawmakers members of the National Executive Committees of their political parties, had attracted criticisms from opposition political parties, civil rights groups and prominent Nigerians. But, Eze said at the press conference that the outcome of the public hearing on the bill would determine the direction to be followed by the lawmakers. He said, “We need the public hearing because the process of making laws here is very clear and we cannot bypass any of the procedure because people are speaking for or against. “When people speak for it, we will still go ahead and conduct public hearing, when they speak against, we will still conduct public hearing. Preparations are in top gear. All things being equal, we might be having the public hearing on Thursday.” The Senate spokesman added that in order to save time, the committees handling the bill in both chambers of the National Assembly might merge to conduct a single public hearing. According to him, the two committees, would after the public hearing submit a harmonised version of the bill to the chambers. “If possible, they may eliminate the time that would have been wasted on setting up a conference committee. Everything is being done to ensure that that matter is treated speedily,” he said The senator assured that the leadership of the Senate would be open to criticisms, and urged critics to appear at the public hearing to make their contributions. He said, “The Senate President say, we are a listening National Assembly, we represent the people, at the end of the day, what will happen is what the Nigerian people desire and what will be in the overall interest of our democracy. “That is what will guide our actions. We want to assure you that we will tale on board, all the views that have been expressed to the public hearing.” There was, however, tension in the House of Representatives on Tuesday when the two lead sponsors of the bill in the House complained that one their colleagues — Mr. Patrick Obahiagbon — used abusive and unparliamentary language in his opposition to the controversial clause in the bill. The sponsors of the bill — Mr. Igo Aguma and Mr. Cyril Maduabum — therefore urged that Obahiagbon be penalised for his action. Obahiagbon, the first lawmaker to openly condemn the clause, had said that it would amount to ”legislative rascality and parliamentary gambadoism” if the House went ahead to pass the bill. Raising a point of order on privilege and quoting from the Legislative Houses, Powers and Privileges Act at Tuesday’s plenary, Aguma noted that the Action Congress of Nigeria lawmaker went beyond the norms acceptable to the House to castigate his colleagues in the public. Aguma urged the House to refer the matter to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate it and make appropriate recommendations to the House. Aguma‘s prayer was a veiled call for the suspension of Obahiagbon, as the committee would have applied the relevant rules and recommend his suspension. On his part, Maduabum informed the House that Obahiagbon appeared on a television programme where he allegedly asked Nigerians to ”take up arms against all members of the National Assembly.” He said, “This is an incitement to violence; it simply means that by his action, we are no longer safe as legislators. “The lives of members of our families are also at risk because he is inciting the public to come and attack us in the course of doing our job as legislators.” But as tension rose, the Speaker, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, called for caution and sought to hear Obahiagbon‘s side of the story. This attracted noisy reaction as the majority of lawmakers opposed the idea of allowing Obahiagbon to speak. They wanted the matter to be referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges immediately. The speaker, in a bid to ensure fairness, insisted that Obahiagbon must speak amid loud protests by lawmakers. When he rose to speak, Obahiagbon admitted to have addressed a news conference where he used the language complained of. He, however, explained that he used ”legislative rascality” contextually to mean that he hoped his colleagues would not ignore the opposition to the bill by going ahead to pass it. His explanation elicited further uproar as the lawmakers shouted him down. At this point, Bankole intervened again, saying that it was clear that Obahiagbon offended his colleagues by describing them as ‘legislative rascals.’ The speaker then advised Obahiagbon to withdraw the language and apologise to the House. He also observed that by admitting that he considered the decision of the House to pass the bill as unethical, Obahiagbon ought to know that it was a matter for the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to handle instead of going to the public. Obahiagbon bowed to pressure and tendered an apology, saying that “the House of Representatives will live forever.” He also said that he offered an ”unreserved apologia.” Many lawmakers still felt that Obahiagbon did not apologise properly, but Bankole intervened again to restrain them from fuelling the tension. The speaker appealed for calm and urged his colleagues to focus more on other serious assignments before the House such as the amendment to the 1999 Constitution (2nd Alteration). Source: http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2010112415474189 |
Politics / Re: Atiku "Selected" As Northern Consensus Candidate by Mesef1: 6:49pm On Nov 22, 2010 |
Well, this sounds interesting. GEJ might not have it easy with Atiku because the latter has some disguised loyalists among the Governors in the South. Don't be decieved that some Governors in the south could sell out at the eleventh hour. If all other aspirants from the north work for Atiku (very unlikely though) and the North is able to come out in one front, then GEJ should forget it. In another possibility, GEJ could count on the love lost between the middle-beltans and the core north and get a majority of votes at the primaries if he is able to hold on firm to the south bloc. But the guy should forget those core northern Governors like Sule Lamido, Wammako and all. They will likely go with the "interest of the north". Then I have always believed that Ribadu was positioned in ACN as a last resort by OBJ/GEJ group. If the North deals with Jonathan's ambition, he will switch support to Ribadu and break up PDP for good. In all, the time is still there for anything to change. The game has just started and some interesting days lie ahead. |

OH MY COUNTRY PEOPLE I HAIL THEE! Going thru some posts on this tread, you will see clearly why our country is as backward and far buried in the woods as it is today. When Governors loot their state treasuries in Nigeria and they are investigated/caught, we'll say "it is politically motivated" When Senate Presidents/Speakers are found to be corrupt, their kinsmen will say, "leave him alone, he is our son/daughter". When high profile rogues in the corridors of power are cuaght, we'll say, "he is not the only one, others have done it before" Now. Emeagwali has been found to be a serial liar and intellectual fraudster, some of us are saying "it is racial discrimination or borne out of jealousy for a blackman's achievement", "why should we investigate him when Uncle Sam is not?" Politics / Re: "Do Not Vote For A Muslim President" - Pastor Paul Adefarasin by Mesef1: 9:55am On Nov 18, 2010 |
I laugh at people who disclaim religious bigotry. It does exist in Nigeria and any sincere person will know. We cannot over-emphasize the fact that the Hausa/Fulani muslims are the political bigwigs in Northern Nigeria and by extension the whole country Nigeria. It is not an accident that they are muslims and also politically relevant. People who referenced Fashola as an exceptional muslim to justify the non-existence of religious bigotry are very ignorant of the hidden political qualifications for the office of the Governor of Lagos State. Tinubu once confirmed to the chagrin of many that Lagos cannot be governed by a xtian when he mentioned at a forum sometime duting his tenure as Governor that he is certain that he will not hand-over to a Christian. In case many do not know, the politics of the office of the Gorvernor of Lagos state is coloured by religion. From Epe to Ikorodu to Lagos Island etc where Lagos indigenes have their roots, majority are muslims and as their religion dictates, they should never allow a "Keferi" (i.e. non muslims like xtians) rule them. So as it is in Northern Nigeria, so also it is in Lagos State. Otedola happened to be an elected xtian Governor of Lagos State by proxy because Agbalajobi and Sarumi (both muslims) fought dirty and disintegrated their partyu SDP to the favour of Otedola's NRC. We have only had an elected Christian President (OBJ) in Nigeria by what the Hausa/Fulani folks describe as a mistake that they forever regret. Christians should wake up and challenge this staus quo as Adefarasin has said. The time is ven now. |

Quote 1. How is Buhari funding his campaign Buhari has been contesting the presidency since 2003 and has spent some fortunes running campaigns all over the country. Running campaign for a councillorship election in Nigeria could cost you almost what a civil servant will earn working for 35years! We need to know how the campaign of a man who is reputed by many as being "incorruptible" has been funded so far. Buhari's campaign has not been known to be flamboyant. In fact, some analysts have identified limited campaign funds as one of his biggest obstacle. Secondly, it is party, not candidate, that does more of teh funding after clinching the ticket. You should also know that Buhari's active campaigns usually starts/started after clinching party ticket. Of all the frontline aspirants today, Buhari is the least visible in terms of campaign. Where you see him are newspaper interviews and visits that make news headlines. I personally have not seen a single poster or billboard on Buhari. And a quick question: can you explain same for GEJ, whose campaign is so far the most flamboyant. Quote 2. Has Buhari ever given account of his stewardship as the Chairman of PTF under Abacha where corruption in public offices was huge? Perhaps he has not been investigated in that light and so has not been found out to be corrupt. Your second sentence answers the question raised in the first sentence. If there is anything suspicious, let them investigate. That said, I have learnt not to give 100% trust to any political personality in Nigeria, but until something is categorically brought up against him, I remain convinced that he, alongside Ribadu, are the ones that can go far in tackling corruption and mass indiscipline in Nigeria. JARUS: PLS READ THIS FINALLY, BUHARI HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE CORRUPT Shagari’s regime (1979-1983), incurred Buhari’s wrath when it decided to investigate the US$2.8 billion that disappeared from the Midland Bank, London account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, (NNPC), during General Obasanjo’s era as military head of state that preceded Shagari’s. Dr. Olusola Saraki, Turaki of Ilorin, was the majority party leader of the Senate at the time and he headed the Senate Committee set up to trace the stolen money after some three years of clamour for such an investigation by members of the civil society. The money was traced to the Midland Bank London branch fixed account of Buhari, Obasanjo’s appointee as military head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. The Committee’s report was presented to the Senate during the tail end of Shagari’s regime in 1983, so the House decided to deal with the matter soon after the 1983 general elections. The attempt at civilian-to-civilian transition provided the fillip for mayhem at the time. The elections were marred by massive rigging because incumbent political office holders were refusing to slacken their stranglehold on Nigeria Plc., mortgaged as the leaders private property. On the 31st December, 1983, Buhari struck under the cover of the political commotion that trailed the presidential election results. Buhari generally had no agenda for leadership but vendetta against those he called critics and rabble-rousers. Buhari did not see any moral wrong in his conversion of our oil money into his personal use. Rather he railed at the press and what he described as the self-righteous sections of the country for making a big deal out of the issue. He locked up without trial, politicians and critics including Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, notorious for clamouring for the exposure of the oil money rogue. Satire saved my neck at the time. Vera Ifudu, who was an NTA reporter then, was sacked through his prodding as military ruler, for reporting what Dr. Olusola Saraki had told her in an interview about how the missing money was traced to Buhari’s account at a Midland Bank London branch. Vera eventually won her case of wrongful dismissal in court against the NTA and was financially compensated. Abacha rehabilitated Buhari with the chairmanship of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) before he (Abacha) died in 1998. When Obasanjo returned to power in May 1999 as civilian president, he found that over 2.5 billion naira had not been properly accounted for in the PTF and that there was not much on the ground to show for the colossal expenditure the agency was claiming. On the day Obasanjo announced the scrapping of the PTF, a non-staff brother-in-law of the boss, allegedly serving as his conduit on some PTF projects, died suddenly from what appeared to be heart failure. Haruna Adamu, who was appointed by Obasanjo to investigate the PTF before finally consigning it to the dung heap, allegedly quickly pocketed one hundred million naira of PTF’s money before operating table could be set up for him, thus forcing Obasanjo to hurriedly close the place down without further investigations. Buhari has been trying desperately since to return to power, perhaps to get a chance to shred the PTF documents? SOURCE: http://www.saharareporters.com/article/ibb-presidency-or-nigeria-dies-2011 |

SANUSI IS NOW DENYING NORTHERN HEGEMONY!!!! How did he become CBN Governor in the first place? By hardwork or brilliance? Lest Sanusi forgets, he became CBN Governor when all the policy makers of the economy - National Economic Adviser, Finance Minister, President of the NSE etc were all from the North. I am dead sure if the vacancy for that position was advertised, Sanusi will not rank in the top 10 of successful candidates. I think Sanusi needs to be reminded of this. We are not fools! If not for Northern hegemony, how did we come about "One North", "In the interest of the North" and never any vocabulary like "In the interest of the South"?? I cannot fall cheaply to poetry or beautifully constructed speeches, this country is not one and never one because there is always the "Interest of the North" that conflicts with almost everything progressive. When it comes to Presidency, you hear them say Zoning, government appointments - federal character, admission into educational institutions - quota system, health - (remember polio vaccines) southern ploy to kill northern children (who already do not have lives because of the enduring legacy of almajiri). Sanusi, inflation is still at double digit, go and do something about that and leave history alone till you become Emir of Kano. |

@ toba & Kabukabu, You guys are missing the point. A foreign coach? Didn't you hear the home truth from Laggerback himself? Let me educate you a bit. Foreign coaches like Mourinho, Capello, De Bosque and Hiddink don't have the patience and the time to come and sit down in Nigeria to help with any developmental football. They are good technical instructors and they work with finished products i.e. good players. If we don't have players like Messi, CR7, Rooney etc, then its a waste of money going to hire any of these guys. In fact, an offer from Nigeria will not attract any of these guys except of course, the package is crazy. Siasia, being a Nigerian resident in Nigeria have the luxury of time and patience to start raising a new team unlike Mourinho and co. Then coming to other local coaches, the truth is, most of them and typically, Amodu are a lazy bunch. Amodu used to be good but he has lost touch with modern football tactics. Football is a very dynamic game. How may refresher courses has Amodu and other local guys gone for in the last 5yrs?? Siasia attended a grade A coaching school in the US before he came back to Nigeria and do not forget that he played football in the French first division under many European coaches as well. Please all this guy needs is the support of all of us. I am confident he will deliver. |
Politics / Re: Sanusi Lamido Faults Sir Olaniwun Ajayi On Northern Domination by Mesef1: 2:24pm On Nov 05, 2010 |
SANUSI JUST DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. No amount of misinformation can change the fact that - THE NORTH IS THE PROBLEM OF NIGERIA! Let me ask Sanusi: 1. Whose idea was quota system (an idea that rewards indolence over hardwork) that enthroned mediocrity in our country? 2. Whose idea was federal character? 3. How many industries are in the north? What is the entire North's contribution to non-oil growth in Nigeria's economy? 4. How many bussinessmen in Nigeria are from the North compared to how many rich men/commonwealth in Nigeria resides there via looting and stealing? 5. For whose benefits were different cut-off points established in JAMB for ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States)? Southern students? 6. Just how many standards in all facets of our national life have been lowered just to make sure that the North competes at the same level with the south? The questions are endless. SANUSI JUST DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. Funny that Sanusi is blaming Britain for the poor level of education in the north. If that document he refrenced truly exists, what has he (Sanusi) and his grandfathers done about it? Have they made conscious and remarkable attempts to massively educate their people save for the privileged fanatics in their palaces like Sanusi? The guy should just keep quiet!!!!!! |
