Politics / Ministerial List: Women’s Group Demand Okotete’s Removal, Writes Remi Tinubu by MightyPen: 6:12pm On Aug 16, 2023
Affliction has come the way of ministerial nominee, Delta State, Stella Okotete, whom the Senate failed to confirm as a women Civic group , Consortium of South-South Amazons for Nigeria has written to the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu demanding a final expungement of the name of Stella from the Presidential list.

According to the letter jointly signed the group’s coordinator Hon. Ossai Felicia Jaita and secretary General Arc. Osaretin K. Buraimo returning her name to the Senate for confirmation would be an embarrassment to the nation due to the avalanche of her indictments in presenting false records and her breach of Code of Conduct for public officers which led to her sack recommendation by the 8th Senate.

The group also condemned what it described as Okotete’s unbecoming manner of casting aspersions at some Elders of Delta State in which she accused of being behind her predicament.

While asking Remi Tinubu to prevail on her husband, President Tinubu to replace Okotete, the group also described the suspended nominee’s moral character as questionable which they said will set a bad example for young women in the society.

The group while reacting to an article titled ” Who is afraid of Stella Okotete”? Asked the suspended nominee to accept her fate after she was suspended based on a series of petitions laid against her bothering on “certificate forgery, breach of Code of Conduct, non-declaration of assets and operating of companies while in active service amongst other offenses.”

The letter read in parts; “A Female Ministerial nominee,Stella Okotete from Delta State has resulted in attacking revered Personalities from our dear State, ever since her nomination was suspended by the Senate.

“We refer to an article sponsored by her titled “Who is afraid of Stella Okotete?” In which she tried to defend the series of facts upon which her Ministerial nomination was disqualified.
“Facts are sacred but opinions are free. Rather than lay false accusations on prominent leaders of our state as being the ones behind her plight, she should rather face the consequences of her actions.

“The fact remains that the reasons for which she was disqualified remains valid and the public cannot be cajoled by the emotional blackmail. The report of the Senate which recommended her sack from the Nigerian Export-Import Bank, NEXIM is there for all to see, while her academic records still remain questionable in addition to the series of unanswered corruption allegations.

“Till date staff of the NEXIM bank are yet to recover from the mental and psychological trauma which she made them pass through when she held say as the Bank’s Executive Director.

“The impunity in the write up used to address the facts raised against her which led to her disqualification have left much to be desired. If we refer to the comments of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio during her failed Ministerial screening at the Senate where he Jokingly said that “Stella should be allowed to go and lead the young girls in order to produce more of her likes” and we are however compelled to ask that what kind of Mentees should be produced by Stella? Was he referring to producing Women of easy virtue ? Or women that will present fake records which led to her recommendation for sack by the same Senate ? Or was the Senate President referring to a Woman who is said to be an Escort to almost all Northern Governors and public office holders?

The group also informed Remi Tinubu that considering the viral reports that side chicks are being appointed as Ministers it would be a gaffe as Stella’s moral virtue also remains questionable describing it as an easy one which will bring distractions to the Presidency. The group explained that appointing Okotete may likely aid women Trafficking.

It read; “Women of Okotete’s kind can never be trusted due to their amorous relationships with numerous Male allies and they can turn rogue at any time. We urge your Excellency to please protect your integrity and that of the Millions of women that voted for your husband because of your upright moral and spiritual character.

“Your Excellency it will interest you to be informed that in the last political dispensation some Government officials were accused of aiding “Women Trafficking” popularly known as “Trolley” in the South-South region. It is therefore imperative that your administration avoids the appointment of persons whose antecedents have shown that they are capable of Trafficking our young innocent girls for sexual and other illicit purposes using their public office powers.

“Your Excellency should prevail on our dear President to prevent such a character from attaining such High esteemed office. We want our young girls to Breathe we don’t want such mentorship for our women and young girls. We have daughters, Wives, Sisters and it will be disappointment if such a Person represents Delta State at the National Level.

“We are worried by the viral reports about the women of questionable characters that have populated the Ministerial list and such adding Stella Okotete will only aggravate such perceptions, some people may also form the opinion that we now have a sex trade ring in the cabinet of the President which will also distract him from performing his laudable national service

We appeal to you to step in and save this Nation and your administration from avoidable mockery and embarrassment.

Celebrities / National Film Institute To start awarding Phds, Says Dr Chidia by MightyPen: 4:43pm On Apr 26, 2021
The Managing Director and Chief executive officer of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, has disclosed that the National Film Institute of Nigeria will soon start awarding Doctor of Philosophy Degrees (Phd) to elevate the standard of training of the highly specialized manpower needed in Nigeria's film industry.

According to Chidia, the move is also in line with the Federal Government's initiative to boost the film sector bridge the nation's unemployment deficit as identified in the economic recovery and growth plan of President Buhari's administration.

He made this known while speaking during an interview to mark the "World creativity and innovation day"on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Network's Nigeria Today while answering questions on his achievements as the MD of NFC.

He said ;
"On training because of the collaboration we signed,we are receiving funding which is double of our annual budget to build infrastructural deficit at the NFI that runs into several billions of Naira from France's finding Agency the AFD (Agence Française de Développement).

At the National Film Institute; we started as a diploma awarding Institute; but now awarding BSc and masters degree and we are about to start awarding PhDs. That tells you Government is focused on NFI to train and get our youths busy.

Speaking further on the efforts of the Federal Government in the creative sector Chidia said the emphasis is being made towards the quality of film production no longer in quantity.

In his words;

"The Federal Government is doing much in enabling the capacity for training, especially at enhancing quality and facilities , deliverables that can help our very active young minds in the area of the film industry to wrap up their capacity and to improve on their quality because actually we are not talking about number anymore.

"I think the issue now is quality , so that they can remain globally competitive with other climes in terms of quality though we really already notably competitive when it comes to number; so now we are never focused on seeing it as a basis to enhance quality .

"So that when next you hear about OSCAR we will proudly take the center stage and when next you hear about blockbuster movies you will find out that Nigeria are dominant at the centre stage .

"Our aim is to use this to migrate millions of our youths out of joblessness because you have seen Buhari administration talking strongly as to what need to be done to move people away from the poverty circle to the where they can be better creators of wealth and this film industry is seen by Government as one of this low hanging fruits that can make that happen.

In terms Government's intervention in the area of funding Chidia said ;

"Government has made available several intervention funds be it from BOI(Bank of Industry), or the most recent one which the CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) is trying to set up at the ECO hub at the former National Theater,Lagos.

"The budgetary allocation for the Nigerian Film corporation being the central agency for galvanizing and developing film has also witnessed an increase.

"Recently through the appropriation benefit of the National Assembly we were able to launch our mobile film school which is the first of its kind , which means that the Government is ready to move around not just sitting at the NFI in jos to receive students for training. We need to domesticate training across the six geopolitical zones and Government is working though on their mandate.

"Government has also done much in making the environment conducive giving tax reliefs and all that and then investing more in the audio visual/ creative industry.

While fielding questions on the role of the NFC in the film industry Chidia disclosed further, that the NFC under his watch signed a contract production agreement with France which according to him will develop the film industry.

"Under my watch Nigeria was able to sign a co production agreement with France and that has yielded tremendous support in terms of development of the industry.

"Last year the NFC again was able to look inward and we had this collaboration arrangement with the defense headquarters and I want to say that there's a recent film which the Airforce sponsored.

"There are also many such line ups, which is because we have a government agency that is focused on its mandate to see how the film industry will be developed and when you activate some of these collaborations then it is there for those who are in the industry to make use of them.

Speaking further, Chidia revealed further that the world Largest Film museum known as the Smithsonian Institute in Washington America will be devoting a whole year from June 2021 to 2022 to showcase Nigerian Films and Music.

Earlier in his remarks ,Fidelis Duker renowned filmmaker and founder Abuja international Film Festival who was also a guest on the show commended the National Film Institute for its commitment in training film makers in the country.

He said ;

"There is this misconception about the poor quality of films withe produce in Nigeria,theere are poor as well as good quality films everywhere in the world even in the US and the UK. In this same industry we've films that have gone to major film festivals around the world to do well. In the midst of these bad films we've had very outstanding film makers who are doing well today.

"The quality of Nigerian films have improved over 20 years ago. Our people are even trying to train and retrain themselves and that's one area that I will give credit to the NFC, they have been doing the alot for over 15 years and the have been consistent with training young film makers and NFI in Jos has produced one of the best cinematographers in this industry, they have done well with the school and that is one area I will commend them for.

World creativity and innovation day, how can the creative industry improve its income generating capacity , with more opportunities. Dynamics and innovations in the Nigerian film industry.

IPF is an umbrella body of professionals from Umuahia North LGA of Abia of Abia State. According to the IPF the award is in recognition and appreciation of Maduekwe’s multidimensional contributions and services to humanity and community development. The prestigious award was presented to Maduekwe and some selected few the third edition of Isingwu Summit held at the Ultra Modern Civic Centre,Isingwu Ohuhu Umuahia North LGA, Abia State. Maduekwe in his keynote address at the epoch making event advocated mass mobilisation of the citizenry for the promotion of creative and innovative entrepreneurship. He spoke on the theme: “Harnessing creative and innovative entrepreneurs from the grassroots for community development.” He said the country must embrace the concept of creative and innovative entrepreneurship for it to experience rapid development. Maduekwe described the concept as “the low-hanging fruits for economic emancipation and accelerated national development”. According to him the country must bridge all existential gaps as well as widen support structures that promote entrepreneurship. “We all are aware that our communities today are faced with conflicting roles In situating the development of our people. The situation within our community actually deserves serious attention, especially as non-state actors with interest in harnessing the inherent capabilities for social economy for political development. “Standing akimbo and waiting and waiting for who will give them the order to do so. It means therefore that our development for the community today is directly linked to entrepreneur engagement which remains the critical bonding trend that promotes unity and progress. But the good news is that as a people, we all belong to a family, like a single family and we come from a village, a community, a local government, a state and that means we are Nigerians. “we cannot deny the fact that much will remain here to be achieved within our community except we employ the mechanism of invasive mobilization in our developmental order which we have seen here today. Let us not forget again that our communities as it is today are patterned along geographical locations, religious, language and cultural settings, these clusters and their members are therefore fundamental and unique within the framework of any community and by implication national our development. “Hypothetically, if development starts from the grassroots with a gradient to national development. It pre pre-supposing that there exist some characteristics that give rise to this occurrence. “Development does not just happen, it takes a person with a vision, passion, drive and capabilities and understanding to identify what should be our common need, given by mutual need and commitment for such development to take place”, he concluded. The convener of the Isingwu Progressive Forum/Summit, Rev. Chuks Alozie, described it as “a platform, where people assemble to harness ideas and exchange views with comparative advantage for community development. “In furtherance to our development drive, we will also be focusing on human capacity building and encouraging emerging entrepreneurs,” he said. Earlier in his address of welcome, the President-General of the community, Mr Sam Onyesoanyi, thanked the organisers for bringing the developmental initiative to the community. Highlight of the event was the commissioning of some prominent Nigerians as national and international chaplains by the Divine Institute of Chaplaincy Corps International/United Chaplains State of New York. Politics / Igbo Leaders Persist South East Must Produce President In 2023 by MightyPen: 10:10pm On Jan 05, 2021
Political leaders of the South East across all political persuasions met at Igbere, Abia State, on January 5, 2021 to discuss the political future of the geopolitical zone vis-à-vis the 2023 general election.

The meeting recalled that Nigerians across political, ethnic, and religious divides fought hard, long, and collectively to enthrone the current democratic dispensation as the surest way to engender national development and guarantee a just and equitable society where every section of the country enjoys a sense of belonging.

The meeting observed that the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has rotated between Northern and Southern Nigeria and among the various geopolitical zones. Thus, the South West and South South geopolitical zones in the southern part of the country have produced the President of Nigeria . Hence as power is expected to rotate to the South in 2023, the meeting noted that the South East is the only zone in the South that is yet to produce a President of Nigeria in the current democratic dispensation.

The meeting further observed that the people of the South East have continued to demonstrate their commitment to the unity and development of the country. Not only has the geopolitical zone actively supported the emergence of Nigerian President of other geopolitical extractions, the people are also known to be major agents of development and heavy investors outside their zone and often the next in population after the indigenes in any state of Nigeria. Our well-pronounced presence and investments in every nook and cranny of the country represent the firmest and most practical demonstration of faith in the unity, peace, and continued corporate existence of the country, for where a man’s treasure is, there his heart lies also.

Resolutions/Demands

In view of the above and after exhaustive and incisive deliberations, South East political leaders resolved to:

1. Recommit ourselves to the deepening of the nation’s democracy as the surest way of fast-tracking national development and building an egalitarian society where no man is oppressed for reasons of his class, ethnic, religious or political affiliation and background.

2. Implore Nigerians across political, ethnic, religious, and geopolitical divides and persuasions to support the people of the South East geopolitical zone to produce a Nigerian President of South East extraction as a mark of good faith and to promote justice and national harmony. For emphasis, we deem this very important in giving every part of the country a sense of belonging and in promoting national unity and solidarity. It is the loudest reassurance of equality of all parts and that the country indeed belongs to all members of the Nigerian commonwealth

3. Consequently implore all the political parties to cede their presidential tickets in the 2023 general election to the South East in the interest of justice, equity and national unity. To make good our demand and reciprocate such good faith, we have decided, as a geopolitical zone with substantial presence in every part of the country to give a block vote and throw our full weight behind any major political party, particularly the APC and PDP, that zones its presidential ticket to the South East in 2023 general election. We resolved to work for such a party irrespective of our different individual political parties.

4. To emphasis that what we seek is a Nigerian President of South East extraction, one that will work to further unite and develop every part of the country. Such a President will be President of all Nigerians irrespective of their political, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, ensuring that all citizens and every part of the country is given a sense of belonging and treated with utmost sense of justice. Such was the dream of the founding fathers of this great nation wherefore they declared that though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand. For the same reason, they also committed to building a just nation where no man is oppressed so that Nigeria may be blessed with peace, plenty, and prosperity.

5. Wish Nigerians a happy and prosperous New Year.
