Politics / Re: Arewa Youths: Atiku Will Win The Presidential Election 2019 by mostojr: 4:11pm On Feb 08, 2019
The only way Buhari can win 2019 election is by rigging. That's why is cabinet members are changing police commissioners up and down, threatening international observers, deploying military, handpicking INEC officials, and sacking judiciary members that aren't in their favor. It's a game of numbers. Buhari can't get any substantial votes in the South East and South South. North will be divided (maybe in favor of Buhari) by 60:40, South West will also be divided by about 50:50...only because some people still believe in Osinbanjo.

Very helpful. Please on sending stuff like food items via cargo, can you (OR ANYONE) share more details? Can I send stuff like garri and beans? Where will I pick the stuff up?

Thank you!

deni83:
Hello everyone, been silently following and learning from this thread and would like to share my landing story ( hoping it would help someone else):

PPR was gotten in March and we searched for flights through skyscanner.net, We booked our flight in May for a family of four going to Toronto in July via Egypt airways (it costed about 1m plus). We initially wanted to go for Emirates but the 600k price difference was thought to be better spent on cargoing foodstuff (to avoid Egypt air wahala) and for the kids to do some summer camp outings with their cousins in Toronto.
We cargoed the food items and some other personal effects the day before the trip(82kg for N115k,... for those who intend to cargo it makes more sense if you have 100kg or more in weight)

Also, after much back and forth, we finally decided to split our full POF between my husband and I and carry cash to Toronto. We changed our monies to 100USD bills and they were very handy to carry with our carry ons. We had not issue with safety or harassments at the airports.

Day of departure: Got to the airport around 11am on Friday (Lagos traffic), had a smooth check-in (we had weighed our 8 baggages at home before leaving and our hand luggages were also pretty light). Had meetups at the airport with family and friends but we couldn't hang out for long... took a lot of pics though. Went to the boarding area, and we were asked to identify our luggage before sitting down to wait to board. Boarded plane in time. Flight to Cairo was on a small plane, no personal IFE, but food was okay and the kids (6 and 4yrs) slept most of the way. Landed in Cairo after about 6hrs and had a 5 hr wait,... which the kids spent running around. We got a bite to eat (I could pay in dollars at the airport) and finally the boarding process began, with only one really slow officer trying painstakingly to match the faces of passengers to their passport photos...(lol)ridiculous. finally someone joined him and the queue was a lot faster. From the number of people queued up to board, one could tell that the plane would be a much bigger one and it was.

The 12hr flight was pretty comfortable with personal IFE, okay feeding and darkened cabins to help get used to the timezone change and we all got to sleep. The cabin crew weren't the friendliest but they were helpful and the pilot had the softest takeoff and landing I had ever experienced! We landed Toronto around 7.50am Saturday, did the expected check ins and landing procedures. There practically wasn't any queue at the time we landed so our wait wasn't tedious and we got a cheerful "welcome to Canada you are now Permanent Residents of Canada". However, because we had goods to follow, we had to go to customs to prep for them. After all the waka, we finally went out to meet our expectant relatives who had come to receive us with 2 cars. We did the 30mins drive to Milton, where they reside, ate ,gisted , went out for some grocery shopping and finally got to sleep around 7pm.

Been up and about town since Monday getting our bank accounts opened (we did a joint account in Scotia with separate credit cards, for now), gotten our SINs, got a mobile sim-freedom ( on my Samsung S7 double sim that I had brought from Naija) just for me for now though... my husband just intends to do a soft landing. Found out the Halton district has new program for IMGs,... so we're hoping that works for us and we're also prepping for driving tests (having a car is not a luxury in a small town like Milton). The kids have started summer camp at a church with their cousins and are having a blast and that also frees our days for us to do waka.

Canadians have been very helpful and Milton in particular is very family oriented with lots of public and low cost programs available to engage the kids this summer. I will try to update as I see needful, but I can say that if you have a family and you are looking to save some money Egypt air isn't a bad option.

Elders - Would you recommend going to school straight after landing? My friend and I land in a few weeks. She got admitted to a 1 year MSc program in Queens University, Ontario (fully funded by the school).

I've been telling her that it would be better if she comes to Toronto with me to job hunt; however, she feels the program in Queens will help her get a better job next year. Or maybe she doesn't want to be around me anymore. grin grin grin

Hi. I'm preparing for the GMAT exam. Please help me critique the essay below. Thanks.

The following appeared in the editorial section of a local newspaper:

“In the first four years that Montoya has served as mayor of the city of San Perdito, the population has decreased and the unemployment rate has increased. Two businesses have closed for each new business that has opened. Under Varro, who served as mayor for four years before Montoya, the unemployment rate decreased and the population increased. Clearly, the residents of San Perdito would be best served if they voted Montoya out of office and reelected Varro.”

Discuss how well reasoned . . . etc.

In the local newspaper article, the writer states that the residents of San Perdito would be best served if they voted out Montayo, the current mayor, and reelected Varro, the city's former mayor. This conclusion is obviously flawed because it is based on hollow assumptions that require further strengthening with additional information.

Firstly, the writer states that since Montayo got into office, the population of the city of Sanperdito has decreased. However, there is nothing, in the write-up, that shows the percentage decrease of the population of the the city of San Perdito. In order to convince readers, the writer should have stated the percentage decrease. This assumption is weak, because a negligible decrease in the populations-like 1 or 2 percent-is not enough reason to assume that the current mayor is not doing a good job. In addition to that, a decrease in the population is not equivalent to a decrease in a city's workforce. It is possible that as the population was shrinking, the employeable population doubled. This might be the main reason behind the increase in the unemployement rate in the city.

Secondly, the writer states that two businesses have closed for each new business that has opened. Here too, the writer does not reveal the type of businesses that have closed, and the type of businesses that are opening. Merely assuming that this is bad for the city is wrong. In a situation where the new businesses that are opening are way more profitable than the businesses that are closing, San Perdito might actually be on the path to economic growth. The writer should have stated the profitability of the new businesses, and compared it with that of the old businesses. This point will only be reasonable if the writer is able to prove that the total profitability of older businesses that closed is more than the total profitability of the newer ones that just opened.

Finally, the writer's reason for supporting Varro is just as flawed as his/her other points. An increase in population and decrease in unemployment rate means nothing if not supported with figures. It is possible that the population increase was less than 1 percent. This will mean that even though the population increased, it did not increase significantly. The same goes for the rate of unemployment. The writer needs to support his/her conclusion with statistical figures in order to convince readers that Varro is exactly who San Perdito residents need as mayor.

I live very close to the court where Akala was arraigned. You should have seen the number of supporters that came out to hail this man. There were so many cars around that area that people found it hard to park. My conclusion, NIGERIANS ARE THE REASON WHY NIGERIA IS THE WAY IT IS, NOT POLITICIANS.
Imagine the damaging impact booing this politicians will have. Imagine if they we stoned instead of hailed them. This would discourage other politicians from stealing.

Instead we hail them. They walk into our court rooms smiling. Then we go home and complain about electricity, water, roads, security, etc.

Totally disagree. I'm Yoruba and most Nigerians in the U.K are Yoruba. It makes me feel good to have my people around me when I'm not in Nigeria. I enjoy London. The weather can be horrible at times but knowing there are so many of us out here I never really fell alone. I can't speak for everybody but London is definitely the place I will live when I'm away from home. I was out in the states for a bit but I was disheartened by the amount of igbo akata out there. I didn't really feel they were Nigerian so I don't enjoy my time around them. U.k is the place to be for Nigerians in my opinion.#
London is quite expensive but did you really expect any different? Common jo, stop complaining and work for what you want and need.

PDP demands Fashola resignation

July 14, 2011 12:46AM

The Lagos state chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded for the "immediate resignation" of the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola over the flooding of most parts of the state on Sunday.

The party also demanded an unreserved apology from the governor and the payment of adequate compensation to the families of those who lost their lives and property in the flood.

The party's publicity secretary in Lagos State, Taofik Gani, made this known in a statement on Wednesday, where it sympathised with residents affected by the two-days heavy downpour.

PDP described the disaster as "an avoidable trauma," insisting that the state government could have done more to prevent the flooding.

"Contrary to the claim by the state government that Lagosians dump refuse and build on the drainage, the actual cause of the flooding is lack of proper drainage. It is uncomplimentary for the state government to accuse Lagos residents for its own negligence, dereliction of duty and maladministration," the statement read.

According to the party, the state government had over the years failed to clear primary drainage in the state which resulted in last Sunday's floods. It also alleged that the blocking of waterways by construction companies also contributed to the flooding.

More blame

Blaming the government for the ongoing Eko Atlantic project, the PDP claimed that the unnecessary sand filling of lagoons, seas and the ocean by the state government also raised the water level of the ocean.

The statement further lamented the frequent collapse of buildings and loss of lives in Lagos State as it blamed the continued collapse of buildings in the state on the inability of the state to punish government officials involved in the monitoring of building construction.

The PDP then called on the state government to provide affordable housing for the people as a way of making substandard buildings unattractive.

The dude must be HIGH on petrol. He wants Fashola to resign so that PDP can come and steal what is left in Lagos. GOD FORBID!
