This judge, Ademola, has become notorious for being anti-govt. I've been keeping an eye on his judgments and I can't recall if any has ever been to the favor of the govt. He gave Dasuki the go-ahead to travel and has been insisting the govt obeys that anti-masses rule. These are just two out of so many "evil" rulings from him! Very unfortunate.

Crime / Lamorde Seeks To Evade Probe, Drags DSS, Senate, Police To Court by MrDavidson: 9:01am On Nov 20, 2015
On Thursday, Ibrahim Lamorde, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), took his battle against a Senate probe to the Federal High Court of Abuja. Festus Keyamo, the former chairman’s attorney, filed a suit claiming that it was illegal for the Senate to compel him to appear before it regarding issues concerning an office he has vacated.
Mr. Lamorde is under investigation for allegedly misappropriating over N1 trillion, being recovered proceeds of corruption. The defendants of the suit were listed as the Senate, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions, & Privileges, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
President Muhammadu Buhari relieved Mr. Lamorde of his post last week. The former chairman is currently out of the country for medical reasons.
For the past week, he has argued that it is unconstitutional for the Senate to request his appearance with a summons rather than a letter of invitation. He has also noted that neither the DSS nor the police can issue a warrant against him without his receipt of a summons.

All these are fictitious things. He should tell us why Nigerian soldiers were bitterly complaining of lack of weapons and having to run from BH, while BH charges angrily seizing towns and cities. FYI: Mubi with a population of 1.5m people was taken over by "rag-tag" BH!!! Simple conclusion: he's a probable BH sponsor.

It's very unfortunate that Nigeria has been doing this from time immemorial and no leader has got the moral guts to call them to order. Any wonder we're the most-crowned U-17 champion, but have never reached semi final at the Super Eagle level? This is an evil culture of corruption. I hope Buhari will care to know that this is also tantamount to financial corruption and impropriety. Let him order NFF to cease from that.

I think it's much more than that. It's now very clear that BH were as much as sophisticated as the Nigerian Army, in many ramifications. If all these bombardments, arrests, and heavy destructions inflicted on them in the past 8 months hasn't succeeded in totally annihilating them, then it's clear how heavily funded, robust they were. But thank God that they are finally on their death throes. Very soon, they will graduate from using hunter's gun to using catapults.

Crime / ICPC Discovers N292m In Retired Perm. Sec’s Account - The PUNCH by MrDavidson: 11:35am On Nov 13, 2015
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission has traced N292m to the account of one of the permanent secretaries that were retired on Tuesday, The PUNCH has learnt.
It was gathered on Thursday that the ICPC made the discovery during the discreet investigations into the five months the permanent secretaries presided over ministries in the absence of ministers.
Anti-graft investigators were said to have commenced probe into the permanent secretaries’ reign shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari submitted the ministerial list to the Senate.
It was learnt that the investigators became curious upon discovery that the account of one of the permanent secretaries swelled up to N292m in the last five months.
Our correspondents learnt that three more permanent secretaries might also face trial for alleged corruption. There had been a report on Thursday that five former permanent secretaries would face trial for alleged corruption.
It was learnt that the ICPC’s investigations were not limited to permanent secretaries that were compulsorily retired on Tuesday but also those who served in the past five months and still in service.
Findings showed that the ICPC might invite some of the permanent secretaries for interrogation upon the completion of its investigation next week.
A source in the ICPC, who confided in one of our correspondents, said, “It is true that the ICPC is probing the activities of the permanent secretaries. About N292m was traced to the account of one of the recently retired permanent secretaries.
“The commission has concluded investigating some of the permanent secretaries while others are still being investigated. For those that we have concluded investigations on them, we have sent their files to relevant places for action.
“It is not exactly true that those who were not sacked by the President in the recent exercise are innocent. They are also being investigated.”
“However for these ministers to be valuable to the people and the nation, they will be expected to rise up immediately after the ectionless governance.”

Crime / New EFCC Chairman Takes Over by MrDavidson: 4:46pm On Nov 11, 2015
The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Wednesday charged all staff of the Commission to brace up for fresh and greater challenges in combating corruption.
Below is his full speech:

I am today faced with mixed feelings. I have that instinctive happiness for being the one chosen among an array of senior colleagues and competent contemporaries, to take the mantle of leadership of this very professional institution. I also feel heavy around my shoulders, the burden of leadership and expectations. This call to duty is by no means a small challenge; it is a huge task that requires absolute commitment. I am humbled and challenged by the decision of Mr. President.
Let me, by way of paying tribute to the founding fathers of this institution, state our resolve not to falter on the well-established traditions of patriotism,
dedication, courage and fearlessness. We will take this responsibility with utmost seriousness that it deserves.
There may be no need to rehash the facts of the enormity of the corruption pandemic and why fighting it to a standstill is a lifesaver for our country. Indeed, corruption cannot coexist with any meaningful development. The immediate past Chairman of this Commission and the senior management team have worked assiduously in this regard, in accordance with the founding objectives of the Commission. We shall keep the spirit alive and improve on it.
I wish to use this opportunity to thank the outgoing Executive Chairman for his leadership and wish him the best in his future endeavours.
Indeed, there is no better time to ginger up the anticorruption campaign than now that we are faced with economic downturn and the attendant sharp decline in government revenues. There is therefore the need to make sure that whatever is gotten for common use did not end up in private pockets. Again, to attract foreign investments that would complement the income of the Government; we need to clean up our systems in line with global best practices. We intend to pay serious attention to these important areas.
In all that we do, I will be guided by the fear of God and patriotism. We will also have as our watchwords the rule of law and national interest. We will work in an open and transparent manner to ensure
accountability . We will also take whatever decision with the highest sense of responsibility.
To the staff at all levels, I seek your maximum support and cooperation. This is a collective responsibility that can only be driven by the spirit of teamwork. I pledge to be a listening leader and one that is responsive to your welfare and
capacity development . I am ready and willing to work with everybody without any primordial concerns. However, everybody must sit up and demonstrate willingness to do the work.
While we will intensify on our work out there, we will also keep an eye internally. I will not tolerate indiscipline nor condone abuse of office or acts of
corruption. We have to remove the speck in our eyes first, to clearly face the outside world. You have no place in the fight against corruption if you are corrupt yourself. We cannot be caught napping in our own primary calling.
The task ahead is enormous and very challenging but with our collective commitment, we can deliver.

Politics / As Corruption Fights Back By Femi Falana by MrDavidson: 2:51pm On Nov 10, 2015
Since the Buhari administration has undertaken to save funds for the overall development of the country by fighting corruption and stopping leakages in the system the prosecution of certain corruption cases by the government ought to be reviewed as corruption is fighting back in a ferocious manner.
The duty of the State to abolish corruption
According to section 15 (5) of the Constitution, the State is obligated to "abolish all corrupt practices and abuse of power". To that extent, the anti-corruption policy of the Buhari administration is justified by the Constitution. However, the administration believes that corruption is the root cause of the country's socio-economic malaise. Hence, the President has cautioned that "if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us." While it cannot be disputed that corruption has stultified growth and development of the nation it should be pointed out that it is a manifestation of the predatory and dependent capitalist state run by the parasitic ruling class.
The menace of corruption is compounded by the impunity of the ruling class in a neo-colonial state like Nigeria whereas it is controlled by an effective criminal justice system under the rule of rule of law which operates in western countries. To wage a meaningful battle against corruption the economy has to be freed from the tiny grip of imperialism and its local lackeys and managed in such manner as to secure the maximum welfare, security and happiness of every citizen. To achieve that objective the government has to harness the enormous resources of the country and redistribute them to serve the common good.
Furthermore, the culture of impunity has to be replaced by the rule of law. Given the lack of political will on the part of the ruling to end impunity the Nigerian people have a critical role to play in the fight against corruption and abuse of power.
Expectedly, the policy of the Mohammadu Buhari Administration to fight corruption and end impunity is under serious attack by powerful vested interests. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged the persecution of its members who have been dragged to court for diverting huge public funds. While not denying the involvement of the accused persons in corrupt practices the PDP has accused the administration of selective prosecution for not charging the corrupt members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to court. The Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, a leading member of the APC, has alleged that his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for false declaration of assets is politically motivated.
The National Council for Peace has pleaded with President Buhari to respect the human rights of former ministers accused of corruption since President Goodluck Jonathan ensured a peaceful transfer of power. Some senior lawyers have obtained interim or perpetual injunctions from judges who have restrained the police and anti-graft agencies from arresting, investigating and prosecuting certain politically exposed persons alleged to have engaged in the criminal diversion of public funds. In spite of the abolition of stay of proceedings or suspension of criminal trials by the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, senior lawyers and judges manning criminal courts have continued to subject corruption cases to frivolous preliminary objections.
However, while every indictable offence should be prosecuted, it should be pointed out that even in advanced liberal democracies the allegation of politically motivated prosecution is not uncommon. But in western countries anyone who is alleged to have breached what Professor Akin Oyebode calls the eleventh commandment of the bourgeoisie (i.e., thou shall not be caught) will be brought to book regardless of the political affiliation. If the case is dismissed, the person may sue the State to pay reparation if there is evidence of malicious prosecution.
Soliciting for corruption
Although the government is yet to define the scope and nature of its anti- corruption policy it is pertinent to join issues with the lawyers who are being used to hijack the battle and confuse the people. No doubt, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has consistently condemned corruption in the bar and the bench. Thus, at the valedictory service held by the Supreme Court on February 17, 2012, in honour of the late Justice Anthony Aniagolu, the then NBA President, Mr. Daudu SAN pointed accusing fingers at some retired judicial officers and senior lawyers who were acting as bribe couriers between politicians and judges in election petition tribunals. To halt the dangerous trend, he announced that the NBA had set up an Anti-Corruption Commission to identify members of the legal profession involved in promoting corruption within the justice system. But neither the NBA anti-corruption commission nor the Disciplinary Committee currently headed by Mr. Daudu has been able to identify the corrupt members of the legal profession. Indeed, it is public knowledge that some senior lawyers have since been recruited to frustrate the prosecution of corrupt elements in the society.
During the induction ceremony for the 2014/2015 set of Senior Advocates of Nigeria the NBA President, Mr. Austin Aleghe SAN reiterated the resolve of the law society to fight corruption. On that occasion, the NBA leader expressed concern over the rampant allegations of sleaze in the judiciary. Convinced that the leadership of the bar was characteristically playing to the gallery, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Honourable Justice Mohammed Mahmud was compelled to challenge the NBA President to name the corrupt members of the bench. Up till now, the NBA has not plucked up the courage to take up the challenge due to the involvement of a number of senior lawyers in the menace.
At the opening ceremony of the 2015 Annual General Conference of the NBA at Abuja on August 23, 2015, President Mohammed Buhari urged Nigerian lawyers to see corruption as a gross violation of peoples’ rights, because pervasive corruption has continued to deny the people access to basic needs. In urging Nigerian lawyers and judges to back his administration’s fight against corruption and impunity, the President said that “ the ability to manipulate and frustrate the system is the crowning glory of the corrupt and, as may be expected, this has left many legal practitioners and law courts tainted in an ugly way.” (See Buhari to Lawyers: Join fight against crooks- The Nation, August 24, 2015). The appeal has since fallen on deaf ears as some senior lawyers are determined to frustrate the trial of corruption cases to the detriment of the society. This has been amply demonstrated in some of the cases pending at the trial courts and the appellate courts.
Immunity for corrupt public officers
In the last three months, several interim and interlocutory orders have been issued by the federal and state high courts which have prevented the anti-graft agencies from prosecuting certain highly placed individuals accused of involvement in corrupt practices and other economic and financial crimes. In fact, a judge in the Federal High Court has granted not less than 10 of such orders.

Politics / New EFCC Boss Would Have Been Brought Back Since 2012 by MrDavidson: 7:29pm On Nov 09, 2015
In what appears to be payback time, top politicians indicted for corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are moving against the re-appointment of Ibrahim Magu as an operative of the commission, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
Several sources within the commission said Mr. Magu, a chief superintendent of police, who served as head of the Economic Governance Unit (EGU) of the EFCC during the tenure of Nuhu Ribadu as chairman, made several enemies while at the commission, with many of them ensuring he never returns.
“Magu made several enemies while at the EFCC. You know he was the brain behind high profile investigations like Saraki, Odili and others,” a top EFCC source said. He also stated that “many of them have vowed not to let him return to the EFCC.”
Magu, the investigator
Mr. Magu was one of the early recruits into the EFCC by Mr. Ribadu. He is seen by peers as an incorruptible and courageous officer and then made the head of the sensitive EGU, a unit in charge of investigations of senior public officials.
As head of the EGU, some of the investigations Mr. Magu spearheaded include – the role of former Kwara State Governor and serving senator, Bukola Saraki, in the collapse of Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, and James Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, who was recently convicted for money laundering in the United Kingdom money laundering deal.
But trouble started for the police officer after the controversial removal of Mr. Ribadu as chairman of the commission in December 2007. The new chairman, Farida Waziri, was uncomfortable with his presence doubting his loyalty to her, sources say.
In August 2008, Mr. Magu was accused of illegally keeping case files of top politicians being investigated by the commission. His house in Abuja was searched and his property carted away by operatives of the EFCC acting under the directive of Mrs. Waziri. He was subsequently re-deployed to the police after days of detention with nothing incriminating found against him. He was later suspended from the police, going without salaries for several months.
EFCC seeks Magu’s return
Following his confirmation as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC, PREMIUM TIMES learnt that Ibrahim Lamorde made the return of Mr. Magu to the EFCC a top priority. Both men had worked together at the commission when Mr. Lamorde served as head of operations of the agency.
In a letter written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on March 19, 2012, and titled “Re: Postings/Transfer and secondments of police officers to the EFCC,” Mr. Lamorde put Mr. Magu as top on the list of police officers he wanted to be deployed to the EFCC.
But when the police boss was to confirm the deployment of the officers, Mr. Magu’s name was conspicuously absent.
We did not bow to pressure
While senior officials in the EFCC and the police believe Mr. Magu is being witch-hunted for his past roles in the commission, police spokesman, Frank Mba, says the IGP did no wrong in the deployment.
“The IGP can execute his discretion in any way he decides in the overall interest of the force,” Mr. Mba said.
Mr. Mba denied that the police boss bowed to political pressure in not deploying Mr. Magu to the EFCC saying, “if you have any evidence to show that the IGP has bowed to pressure, show us your evidence.”
Presidency intervenes
The EFCC may soon get its dear anti-corruption fighter as sources at the police headquarters informed PREMIUM TIMES that President Goodluck Jonathan has intervened in Mr. Magu’s case.
“The President has directed that the police co-operate with the EFCC by releasing any police official the commission needs to strengthen itself,” our source said.
Following the Presidents intervention, it is expected that Mr. Magu would be released to the EFCC, an act which Premium Times learnt is a major source of relief to Mr. Lamorde.
“Chairman (Mr. Lamorde) believes he needs men like Magu to work with him. I’m sure it will make their (EFCCs) work more efficient,” our source said.

Nairaland / General / Letter To President Buhari Warned Against Leadership Of EFCC And Senator Akpabio by MrDavidson: 7:14pm On Nov 09, 2015
Barrister Leo Ekpenyong's Open Letter To His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari
Your Excellency,
SENATOR GODSWILL AKPABIO, IBRAHIM LAMORDE, IGP SOLOMON ARASE, THE CONSPIRACY THEORY AND THE JUDGEMENT OF HISTORY
I write with a deep feeling of melancholy to further bring to your notice my earlier concerns about the war against corruption under the notorious leadership of Ibrahim Lamorde led-EFCC as expressed in my previous letter to you dated 19th October, 2015.
It would be recalled that sequel to my petitions against the former Governor Akpabio’s administration dated 8th, 22nd June and August 3rd respectively, the Senate Minority leader was invited by the EFCC and after his departure from the Commission he bragged to his supporters that Lamorde was under his control and nothing reasonable would come out of his investigation. It was against this background that I raised an alarm urging the federal government to sack Lamorde since it was apparent that justice would not be done to our petitions taking into consideration the deliberate and unnecessary delays at investigations and possible prosecution.
During my interview on a guest show (O and M) televised by AIT, I accused Ibrahim Lamorde of having interests in contracts awarded by Akwa Ibom State government. This fact Senator Akpabio mentioned to me on June 22nd, 2015.
Ostensibly angered by this allegation, Lamorde summoned me on October 26th via the head of its economic governance unit and for nine (9) hours battled by compulsion to get me recant my allegation and withdraw my petitions against Akpabio. I stood my ground and maintained that the EFCC leadership was “hand in gloves” with Senator Godswill Akpabio.
On November 2nd, one DSP Chuks Ibe from the FCT Police command invited me to answer to a petition written against me by Lamorde. During the course of this interrogation, DSP Chuks Ibe dictated how I should write my statement and personally informed me of his interactions with Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Consequently, on November 5th, 2015 during my routine interview session at the FCT command, I was led before the Gudu district Upper Area Court on a malicious charge of defamation and giving false information.
The excruciating persecution between the EFCC and the Nigerian Police reveals the conspiracy theory involving the trio of Godswill Akpabio, IGP Solomon Arase and Ibrahim Lamorde.
Your Excellency, I cannot agree less with you that unless we kill corruption, corruption will or may kill us. The actions and desperation of IGP Solomon Arase and indeed Lamorde is a clear case of deliberate intimidation, orchestrated falsehood and a diversionary attempt to actualize their aim of ensuring that Senator Akpabio evades Justice.
We recall the dark era of IGP Arase’s tenure as Commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom under the leadership of former Governor Akpabio and the unholy alliance of the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde with Akpabio. This is indeed a very dangerous trend of amalgamating PDP forces to paint the image of this administration in bad light.
At this juncture Mr. President, let me assure you of my unalloyed and irrevocable commitment to your avowed zeal to fight corruption and put Nigeria on the path towards National development amongst the comity of Nations. No degree of intimidation and persecution will derail my resolve to pursue and stand by my petitions to its logical conclusion.
My passionate appeal to you is that you strengthen our anti-graft agencies with incorruptible helmsmen and scrutinize the activities of the Nigerian Police Force under Arase before it gets out of hand. Without mincing words, the duo of Arase and Lamorde are still acting out the script of their former paymasters, the PDP and this is most unacceptable.
As for the malicious prosecution orchestrated against me, I take solace in God Almighty, who is a just judge to vindicate me at the end of this malicious trial.
I humbly urge you sir, to intervene and call these centrifugal forces to order.
Finally, your Excellency, and without much ado, the time to relieve these unpatriotic elements of their duties is now.
Yours truly,

Science/Technology / Nigeria To Invest N2.6tn In Set-top Box ("decoder") Manufacturing by MrDavidson: 12:28pm On Nov 09, 2015
Information Technology
Nigeria to invest N2.6tn in set-top box manufacturing
Thirteen indigenous companies will soon begin the manufacturing of set-top boxes at a projected rate of about N200bn each, amounting to N2.6tn.
Although the National Broadcasting Commission only disclosed the identity of just one company on Wednesday, it said the licences were awarded as part of efforts to meet up with the rescheduled June 2017 deadline on migration from analogue to digital technology.
Our correspondent gathered that the STBs would be used to convert analogue television sets to digital channels to enable Nigerians to watch TV by June 2017.
The Director-General of the NBC, Mr. Emeka Mba, said the Media Concept International was the first STB manufacturer licensee to pay N50m authorisation fee over a year ago, “and has since commenced the process for local manufacturing of set-top boxes at $1bn (N200bn) by 2016.”
He said, “The other 12 companies may likely be spending about the same amount, but since we missed the June 17, 2015 deadline, the most important thing to note here is that we have made progress to ensure that we meet the 2017 target.
“We see a digital future driven by set-top boxes that can give digital channels, Internet access and enhance digital lifestyle and shorten the digital divide in Nigeria.
“We believe this is the future which requires bold steps. Local investors like MCI are making investments that will create technology transfer, and that will permeate through television to bring job creation and economic growth.”
Mba, however, said that the biggest challenge before NBC was that Nigeria had the biggest market with 26 million TV households, saying, “We have to manage the digital migration process carefully to carry all stakeholders along.”
He added, “The efforts of NBC’s former director generals on the Digital Switchover are bearing fruit. The DSO is monumental. It is a national project of how people receive digital channels.”
Meanwhile, MCI has stated that the over $1bn investment was due to its partnership with a South Korean firm, KAON.
The company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MCI, Mr. Babatope Agbeyo, said part of the technical agreement with KAON as a technical partner was to establish a set-top box assembly plant in Nigeria.
“The plant will create about 1000 jobs in the country and foster technology transfer between MCI and KAON. It will be located at Abule-Egba in Lagos when completed, and would have the capacity to manufacture mobile phones, tablets and television sets,” he said.
Agbeyo added that the partnership signalled the beginning of development, “as the future of digital broadcasting rests on the availability of set-top boxes.”
The PUNCH recalls that the NBC in September 2015 awarded digital pay TV broadcasting services licence to MTN Nigeria, and had stated that digital migration was expected to add N320bn yearly to the Nigerian economy, creating over 55,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Crime / Wanted Boko Haram Suspect Arrested At Abuja Airport by MrDavidson: 12:09pm On Nov 09, 2015
A suspected Boko When contacted after THISDAY first got hint......
.....

Speaking on condition of anonymity, another FAAN staff who narrated how the suspected Boko Haram member was caught, told THISDAY that at about 11am (Sunday), a grey-coloured Toyota Hiace bus, driven by a man in army uniform, drove into the airport to drop the suspect and immediately sped off.
“He (driver) never wasted a minute at the airport,” he said.
Continuing, he said the suspect immediately headed to Aero Contractors counter to procure his ticket. He added that because of the long queue, the suspect went outside for a walk where he saw the list of the 100 wanted Boko Haram suspects on the display board.
On sighting his name and picture on the display board, he stepped a few metres away to make
a call to some of his members on the development at the airport.
“See this useless people displaying our pictures here at the airport,” he said in Hausa language, a source told THISDAY.
While the conversation was ongoing, and unknown to the suspect, a FAAN security official kept trailing him. By the time he made his way to get his boarding pass, he was interrogated and arrested by officials of FAAN.
One of the passengers who volunteered to speak on condition of anonymity and who was on his way to Lagos, lamented the situation, adding: "Coming within a space of two months is one incident too many. Government should direct its attention to securing the lives of Nigerians who use the airports.”

Now, this is what we call "action". FG threatened to sanction those who flout the rule, and it's living up to it. One of the reasons the US is so rich today, is because of the fines (in billions of dollars) it gets from erring companies.
Religion / Re: Is God Deliberately Ignoring The Atheist??? by MrDavidson: 1:35pm On Nov 08, 2015
The Bible says "The fool has said in his heart, 'There's no God'..." It didn't end there; that passage went ahead to tell us why: "They've done abominable works..." Psalms 14:1.
From that passage, we can see that one of the main reasons people why choose to blind their eyes to disbelieve the existence of God is this: to allow themselves do as much wickedness as they can without, feeling guilty that they would be held accountable by Him one day (when they die).

Politics / Re: Federal High Court Dismisses Saraki's Application Seeking To Stop His Trial by MrDavidson: 1:48pm On Nov 06, 2015
How I wish Saraki will just save himself this headache of running from court to court. Had this kind of case surfaced about a year ago, some judges would have received humongous bribe in the night, and come out in the day to strike out this case. But God has answered the prayers of poor, cheated Nigerians, and plenty sets of justice are just a stone-throw.

Crime / Lawyer Who Accused Akpabio Of Corruption Charged With Defamation by MrDavidson: 12:19pm On Nov 05, 2015
Lawyer Who Accused Akpabio of Corruption Charged with Defamation

'(Lamorde and His Intrigues)'

A lawyer who accused former Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom of corruption, has been arraigned in court for defamation.
Leo Ekpenyong was arraigned by the police at the High Court in Gudu District, Abuja.
Mr. Ekpenyong appeared in court on Thursday.
He was charged for the unsubstantiated allegations he made against top officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, while appearing on the African Independent Television, AIT.
However, attempts to speak to the lawyer failed as calls to his mobile telephone were unanswered.
Mr. Ekpenyong had accused the EFCC of intimidating him, and refusing to investigate Mr. Akpabio.
He had earlier threatened legal action against the EFCC, if it failed to investigate allegations of corruption against Mr. Akpabio.
Mr. Ekpenyong, who had sent several petitions to the commission, vowed to use every legal instrument available to ensure that Mr. Akpabio was probed.
In a four-page petition dated June 8, which was copied to President Muhammadu Buhari and sent to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Ekpenyong had called for an immediate investigation and prosecution of Mr. Akpabio.
When the former governor was not charged to court, Mr. Ekpenyong took on the EFCC during a live interview with the AIT.
He questioned the integrity of the commission’s leadership and expressed his loss of confidence in its ability to bring Mr. Akpabio to justice.
The commission later invited Mr. Ekpenyong on Monday, October 26, and interrogated him over the allegations he made during the television programme.
He was released after being grilled for hours.

Nairaland / General / FG Issues A Seven-day Ultimatum To Volkswagen Over Status Of Vehicles by MrDavidson: 11:26am On Nov 04, 2015
The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Volkswagen Nigeria to provide information on the status of its vehicles in relation to the emissions cheating software, which affected 11 million cars worldwide.
The council, in a letter to the automaker dated October 26, 2015, signed by its Director General, Dupe Atoki and obtained by Premium Times, said: “The attention of the council has been drawn to some publications wherein Volkswagen has admitted the allegation that certain illegal “defeat device” software was installed in Volkswagen vehicles to cheat emission test. The resultant effect of this on the environment and quality of these cars is of great importance to the CPC.
“The publications also indicated that Volkswagen had admitted that vehicles with 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0 litre EA 189 engines are all affected, (i.e. Golf, Beatle, Jetta and Passat models),” it added.
CPC noted that Volkswagen has a huge market in Nigeria, with many customers who may currently be in possession of the affected models.
It requested Volkswagen Nigeria to within seven days of the receipt of its letter make available to it the number of affected vehicles in Nigeria (if any), steps taken to inform and sensitise consumers and efforts being made to facilitate quick recall of such vehicles in the country.
CPC said its directive was pursuant to the powers of the council to compel manufacturers to give public notice of any hazard inherent in their products.
The council’s action came more than a month after Volkswagen admitted to US authorities that its millions of its brands contained a software that could cheat pollution tests, making them seem cleaner than they actually were.
Around 11 million vehicles worldwide manufactured between 2009 and 2015, including 5 million VW cars, 2.1 million Audi, 1.2 million Skoda, 700,000 Seat and 1.8. million vans, are confirmed to have been built with these so-called “defeat devices.”

Nairaland / General / Court Slams EFCC Over Fresh Charge Against Oronsaye by MrDavidson: 10:48am On Nov 04, 2015
ABUJA — Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday, slammed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for engaging in what he termed “shoddy investigations and untidy trial of cases.”
Justice Kolawole said he was disappointed that the anti-graft agency chose to amend the charge it preferred against the former Head of Service of the Federation, Mr. Stephen Oronsaye, barely 24 hours to the commencement of full-blown trial on the matter.
“This is a very untidy manner of handling criminal prosecution and goes to further buttress the observation that the Chief Justice of Nigeria made recently to the effect that criminal trials in this court are delayed by the fact that the prosecuting agencies always resort to arresting accused persons first before investigation, rather than properly investigating cases before rushing to court.
“The question any reasonable person will ask is whether while the allegation in the former charge was being investigated, issues that formed the crux of this new charge were not there?...

That word "juicy" is synonymous with bribe, graft and embezzlement. These newspapers are contributing to the corruption in Nigeria. When the portfolios of the Ministers are unveiled, you'll still hear them talking about "juicy portfolios" as if all ministers are not paid equally.
