A filling station in Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja, was sealed by the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR ;for allegedly selling petrol above N145. The DPR also gave out the product free to motorists.

The Abuja Zonal Operations Controller of the department, Mohammed Abba, said the report about the station, Khalif Civic Oil and Investment Limited, was gotten on a tip-off by a good samaritan.

Salah emerged victorious to scoop the prize in a star-studded five-man shortlist.

Police are hunting for two rubber workers after an entire family was found slaughtered to death at a plantation just a few kilometers from the Burmese border in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Thailand on Tuesday.

Plantation owner Ponnipha Sae-Liang, 29, found the scene of unimaginable horror at the shack where the family had been staying over the last month while they did rubber work.

Both Namphon Khamkhong, 30, from Narathiwat and his wife Mukda Ngorkwisai, 27 had been nearly decapitated. Their five year old daughter was slashed all over her face, body and attempts had been made to cut her legs and arms off.

Nigerians has been selling us into slavery. A 26-year-old identified as Odion Saliu, a hairdresser from Edo State, said she was kidnapped and handed over to a Nigerian, who forced her to call her mother.

According to her, her mother in Benin paid N200, 000 but she was again sold by the same Nigerian for 3,000 dinars (about N794, 000).

Saliu explained that the Nigerians spoke Pidgin English and some Nigerian languages.

She said, “When I was kidnapped with others and held for some weeks, the Arabs asked if I wanted to be taken to a Nigerian and I readily said yes. I was very happy that I was going to someone from my country. But it was a lie.

“The Nigerian they took me to locked me in a cell and told me to call my mother and ask for N60, 000. The man said he would sell me to a connection house if my family did not get the money. I called to inform my mother and the trafficker who facilitated my journey from Nigeria.

Ekiti House Of Assembly Approves Death Penalty For Cultists. A bill seeking to prohibit the activities of secret cults scaled third reading at the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Tuesday. The substance of the bill is the prescription of the death penalty for those found guilty of breaching the law in that regard.

Persons found guilty of aiding and abetting cultism would also bag life imprisonment. All that is left is for it to be signed into law by the governor.

A gallant officer of the Nigerian Peace Corps has been hailed for his bravery when he rescued two victims and arrested four robbers.

An operative of Peace Corps, Adebisi Mukaila Michael, in a rare display of bravery has rescued two persons, Temilola Isiaka and Kehinde Daodu from a gang of four armed robbers at Orisumabare area in Osogbo, Osun State and handed them over to the police.

According to eyewitnesses, Michael was driving along the area when he sighted the robbers armed with dangerous weapons attacking the victims around 8pm. He was said to have engaged the robbers to save Temilola and Kehinde.

It was learnt that Michael was assisted by some passersby and he succeeded in disarming the robbers and took them to the Dugbe Divisional Police Station.

The Polytechnic Ibadan, other Oyo tertiary institutions declare indefinite strike. Staff unions of the the tertiary institutions owned by the Oyo state government have declared an indefinite strike starting today (Friday) over unpaid salaries of 15 months’ salary and payment of fractional salary.

This followed the expiration of the 14 days ultimatum on Thursday, November 2, 2017, where they had threatened to withdraw their services should the state government not clear all outstanding arrears and restore 100 per cent salary payment.
Chairman, Joint Action Committee of all staff unions across the institutions, Mr Babatunde Adeniyi confirmed to Tribune Online that management of all the institutions had been served with notification of declaration of strike commencing Friday.
The strike action is to be preceded by local protest in the concerned institutions: The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo; Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology; The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa; The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki; College of Education, Lanlate.

The Central Intelligence Agency ( CIA ) on Wednesday released an archive of documents and video seized in the 2011 US raid on a Pakistani compound that killed Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Researchers from a Washington think tank who had prior access to the newly declassified dossier say it includes Bin Laden’s son’s wedding video and diaries left by the Saudi-born militant.

Catalonia parliament has declared independence from Spain in defiance of the Madrid government, which at the same time was preparing to impose direct rule over the region.

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) on Monday ordered students of the institution to vacate the campus latest by 6pm following the outbreak of protests in the school.

UI’s Director of Communications and Publication, Olatunji Oladejo told newsmen that the closure became necessary so as to avert a crisis.

Students of the premier university had earlier staged a protest on the streets of Ibadan lamenting what they tagged the insensitive disposition of the university management to their security and welfare.
