makaveli16:

I'm yet to receive it as @ today. It takes 3-5 business days normally, a friend of mine got his within the time frame. Care less about the amount bro (paid $110 through eshipglobal), care about efficiency. You don't want to walk an inch in my shoes. It's left me distraught and devastated. Keep your head up.

Thank you. The school recommended the eshipglobal to me as well but I told them to send it to a friend of mine who is going to send it to me thru fedex.just wanted to know ow efficient they are? I think the prob is cos of d hols and d fact that maybe they will first go to ur sch to collect it from them.so sorry abt that.let's hope u will collect it latest 2nd wen d hols is over.it is well my bro.do u want to wait to receive d I-20 b4 booking appointment, didn't d sch scan d I-20 to u?

Anthonymighty: Hello guys.....I don baff, rest and chop better food from mummy, come sleep small wake up because I have been on 7 days fasting and constant prayer since 20th till today. And it wasn't in vain. Now I can tell you how everything went. But first of all I want to say a big thank you to Dr. imperiouxx. You have been a wonderful friend to everyone here. Yvete, mamacita, kpolli, mr Chris, and everyone who has supported everyone in prayers and everything generally. Here is how my interview went

I got there by 5:30 i drove from ikorodu to V.I the road was free because I left the house at about 5:00 am. My time was for 8am so I sat down (100 naira for seat) zooooooom! After biometrics I sat down for my turn. Counter A 118 flashed and that was my number and I went to the VO that I have been praying to God to take me too since I entered there because I accessed the 3 VOs....counter 1 was friendly and issuing visa if you can defend yourself, the 2nd VO was asking too many questions and if you answer all well, you get the visa if not he will refuse u. The 3rd one was just denying people. So I went to the counter 1 when I was called.

Me....good morning sir
VO.....good morning...passport and application please
Me...I passed them to him (while passing it) I said compliments of the season to him....I think he didn't answer or maybe he did but I no hear because I dey para.. grin
Vo...he scrolls thru my passport and starts typing. So where in the united states are you going too
Me... Boston Massachusetts
VO...which school and course
Me...Neu and bachelors in information technology
VO...when did you finish secondary school
Me....I finished in 2003 and I went for a diploma in computer engineering, maintenance and repair....I just try explain all the gaps sha
VO...what's your highest degree...
Me....OND in computer science at Laspotech
VO....when did you graduate
Me....last year and I worked at quest engineering ventures for 1 year (wanted to show him the letter from quest ventures) but he said don't bother..
VO....what do you do there....
Me...I repair computers, assemble them for customers, maintenance and General IT consultant.
VO....did you take SAT
Me...(here I used Yvete's expo) I have taken college level classes at Laspotech and I sent my result to my school before they admitted me because they were impressed with my GPA (I stretched my hand to show him the transcript too but he didn't look at it)
VO.....do you have any relative in Boston
Me....no I don't
VO....that means you are going to live in the school campus
Me....yes sir
VO...and who will pay for all this
Me.....my dad
VO....what does he do
Me.....he is a retired staff of NNPC and the CEO of Godwin Cars Limited
VO....ok he sells cars
Me.......yes
VO......can I see his account statement
Me......yes ( I gave him the statement and he flipped through then returned it back to me and the next thing I heard was.....pickup your visa in 3 days time. He kept my passport and docs and handed a white paper to me containing steps on ow to get my visa with a green tag already given to me before my biometrics......that was how my interview went o......

All I have to say is...God was really there for me....I didn't take a ny test, I was lucky because that was the only fear I have been thinking about for long because the next toefl or sat date was after my school's resumption date so I just thank God because so many people were denied because they didn't take a standardize exam. Please it is important you take it o..I only used my experience which I gained here to scale thru that question when I was asked about SAT.....Yvete God bless you o......I dey go kook concert tonight to go pop champagne....because thru out my Xmas season I no shayo because I was fasting and rehearsing real hard. Thank you everybody in the house....Please the key to your visa is prayer and hard work..I prayed hard, fasted and abstained from so many things because of today and it finally worth it. All the gurus in the house .Keep up the good work....Boston, MA...here I come o....na too dey find cheap ticket now be that o..... grin

Imperiouxx oyster burst some champagne for floor mehn....I wish all those who are yet to go for their interview success. Go and get your visa with full confidence and faith.

Congrats my bro.am so happy for you.

Pls dont commit suicide. With my own observation of ur interview,I feel ur denial was because of ur I-20 not reflecting ur course. The vo just didn't allow u to know why he denied you.pls contact the school and tell them to make the correction by writing ur course major on your 1-20.its not too late to collect another one.u only need to pay for dhl or fedex. Am talking from experience.

Yvete:

Sorry for the late response. Here's what he said, its always advisable for all dependents to apply at the same time with the F1 applicant if he wants them to come over any time. There is a high chance that you guys will get through because they don't expect couples to stay apart. If you guys interview at different times, they may screw you more for no responsible man would leave his family behind. You need to state that adequate preparation has been made for their upkeep for the time you'll be away.

They asked why he's not traveling with his family at this time and he said that he wanted to take them along, but doesn't want to disrupt his wife's ongoing certification course and she's also working as an independent contractor with a company( <<He said he made this up anyways). When its complete, she can come over for a visit and take a rest because she's been working so hard all these years. When she went for her interview, her answers were similar to her husbands. They asked questions to verify if she was really doing any certification course at that time. Hope this helps.

If you can afford it, go as a family. They can always join you later anyways. IMO

Thanks so very much. That was very helpful. I really do appreciate.

Yvete:
Seconded.

@Ollyboy1 :- Sorry, I don't want to advise you on something I don't really know much about. I'll ask a Church member how he brought his wife. He graduated this MS May '12, but the wife joined him in Dec '11 with their daughter. Whatever he says, I'll let you know after Church tonight.

@Sanciro :- Go back to page 138 and read the comment about the Second bachelors to Masters program. There's also an interview in part 2 with a similar experience (HND - Bachelors).

@ yvete: Thank you. I will be expecting from you and also what his response was if atall they asked from him then if his family would be joining him. Thank you.

Yes, of course they will! even if it's just for a visit (we all know it won't be 'just a visit'). and if they ask when? (they shouldn't anyway) tell them - anytime after you have settled down and that you are still planning although nothing has been chiseled in stone yet.

Trust me, if u say your family isnt joining you, they would start wondering if you are a family man at all . . . that's how I see it anyway.

Thank you so much

Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by ollyboy1: 3:27pm On Dec 05, 2012
Yvete:

Its my pleasure. From what I learned, 24 months seems ideal for International transfer. If you've got a BA/BS, I'd say 24 months because you're not a freshman, but OND/Diploma may take a little longer. You don't need to edit your ds-160 if you've submitted it with 48months.
I donno if you're a married male/female, but your spouse may join you later with the F2. Preferably about a semester to a year later. However, you just never know what may work out for you! Good-luck.

@Ollyboy1 The duration on I-20 is 30 months for both programs which is correct, but I put 24 months on the ds160.

@ yvete:Thank you. My school gave me international transfer and its 48 months they wrote on my I-20 and I wrote the same 48 months on the ds160. Can you pls expanciate on that. What should I tell them at the embassy. Thank you

Mamacita007: sorry i was very excited in my last post that i wrote rubbish with my phone. first, God work miracles not magic lol

Special thnxs to the gurus and those that know little to share.. I can't mention specific names, but you all know yourselves. Thnx.

My appointment was scheduled for 10 o' clock but big bros and I arrived like 6am after a very serious mock interview by my cousin on d phone. I stood for hours there and was so dehydrated and sleepy. I kept singing worship songs in my head - Awesome God by Sinach. I will sing by D.Mclurkin. The Lagos Embassy was not cold today as I expected. Omo see as dem dey bounce people. I swear almost 400 people showed up this morning. I was praying for the African American VO in booth 6. One girl was shaking and stammering badly for like 10mins but he still gave her the visa. He seems relaxed and jovial. One white garment Church man came with his garment, no slippers and a big gold chain on his neck. The VO bounce am come laugh on top sef. loooool The man vex comot. The white saddist VO in counter 3 denied one girl for no SAT and it makes sense as you cant gain admission to any university here without jamb.

my number A07x shows up on counter 1 so i walked to the window. All the answers we made to every possible question disappeared from my head. I remembered to make it conversational and no yes/no answers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Me: Hello. Howz your morning?

VO: Good. Howz yours? Pass your docs.
Me: (smiling) Ready for my interview but I came too early so I'm already tired (smiling).

VO: Looks up at my face and smiles a little. I see you're going for MS in SCM/Logistics at Arizona State University?
Me: Yes. I've always desired to work as a Supply Chain professional. I have some entry level experience in procurement.

VO: Okk. Did you write any test?
Me: Yes, I wrote GRE and IELTS. (I went with my GRE online printout because my original is too embarrassing). As soon as I saw the VO typing something from my GRE report, I quickly explained that I didn't receive my original GRE report even though she didn't ask me.
VO: Sure, I just verified your test scores with ETS. (na hear i fear america oh. America is too much).

VO: Did you apply for the same program at other schools?
Me: No. I applied for same program at University of Houston and ASU, but Purdue UIU and U of Oklahoma is Human Resources.
(she was typing so I continued talking again) I chose ASU because its degree plan covers the fundamental components of all other programs like project management, risk assessment, bla bla and these specific courses is what I need to advance professionally here in Nigeria. most times these jobs are outsourced to foreign professionals to coordinate for us. I didn't mention denial to PUIU because she didn't ask.

VO: Are you gonna be responsible for your tuition?
Me: (Laughs)No oh. Confidently said that my mum is 100% responsible and she works as an consultant.... to the ....... solid minerals analyst (Yvete chai looooool. It worked sha looool).

The VO starts typing fast for almost one minute as I just stood there singing praises in my head. Then she passed my I-20 and other documents and kept my passport, DS 160 Confirmation page and gave me a white paper with a green ticket to pick up my VISA ON FRIDAY!!!!!!

Being on Nairaland is 25% visa guarantee, asking questions and seeking clarifications is 50% solved, reading the entire thread and learning from others is 75% and GOD ALMIGHTY IS THE ENTIRE 100%.

As you rejoice with me, may others also celebrate with you. Shayo shayo shayo shayo

Congrats to u and old bro. Just wanna ask is old bros married and how many months is indicated on his I-20? Thank you.

@jimtosam, thanks a lot I shall update you when am back.

Go with 40k. You come back with your remaining cash if there is excess. They have about five border points. Their immigration guys will be asking for tip at each of the point..With bold face, tell them you get nothing to drop. But, if at all you are frustrated (delay) to tip at the first point, tell them that one of immigration guys should take you through the remaining points unless they will trouble and delay you at every other points. Becareful cos those guys like to exploits Nigerians. Imagine when I went, the immigration guys were asking me for 5k naira (not cephas). I first laughed. When the bike drop you at the ECO Bank,Benin Rep. just ask the bank official that you want to change money, they will ask one of the security guys to take you to a reliable exchanger. After that, you return to bank to complete the form. When you are thru in bank, just pick a bike in front of the bank. Don't pay more than 200/300 naira for the bike.

Try and go early, before 12 noon you are back to Lagos.[/quote]
