Politics / White Elephant "Eko Atlantic City" Project Caused Fatal Atlantic Ocean Surge by oneeast: 12:29pm On Aug 20, 2012 |
A powerful ocean tide yesterday swept away 16 people in Lagos . So far, 6 bodies have been recovered including that of a six year old girl. Precisely a month ago, SaharaReporters released a series of photos depicting a dangerous trend on Lagos beach fronts due to the mindless dredging of the Lagos beach fronts for construction of the Eko Atlantic City. A project planned and executed to create luxury homes for some 400,000 super rich and powerful Nigerians. Our photonews warned that an environmental disaster on the beaches as a result of the dredging occasioned by the ongoing project was just days away. Last night the ocean conquered the boundary between it and the Kuramo Beach, sweeping away 16 residents, all of them presumed dead at this point. The vicious current first assaulted its neighboring Kuramo Beach near Goshen Estate and later spread to Alpha Beach, Mayegun and Badagry waterfronts. Several people have been displaced, and Lagos officials are capitalizing on the tragedy to eliminate several homes and small businesses owned poor people by blaming them for the tragic ocean storm. Several small business owners and residents in the area told Saharareporters that the wave happens every year, but blamed this years ferocity on the construction of the new "Eko Atlantic City". The said the dredging ultimately empowered the Atlantic ocean's discharge of its tidal wave to maximum width and places, thereby causing the havoc yesterday. The tide to forcefully pull down its border with the Kuramo beach. The Lagos state government has deployed Policemen this morning to cordon off the Kuramo beach, while executing the Lagos State Government’s order to forcefully eject people from the area. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/multi-billion-dollar-eko-atlantic-city-project-caused-fatal-atlantic-ocean-surge-killed-16 |

ROSSIKE: All those are presently changing in Onitsha for good, because FG/State government are upgrading/reconstruction and remodeling of the Onitsha Head Bridge and Onitsha/Awka expressway to befit a the modern city of Onitsha as the gateway city to eastern Nigeria. Major infrastructural upgrade and flyovers are being constructed in the city in line with mega city status. Onitsha is really the pride of Igbo nation. |

Ikengawo: Port Harcourt- Let's be real, almost all of our money comes from oil I think Onitsha is getting attention and face lift at the moment with reconstruction and remodeling of Onitsha-Awka expressway and also the presence of major multinationals as Sabmiller and other local giants as orange drugs trooping into the city to set up their plants. The Onitsha Port is another plus to the city |

We are talking about important economic cities, and not some cities with dirty and disorganised markets here and there. Lagos, PH, Onitsha, Kano and maybe Ibadan takes the cake anytime anyday. The major way of determining most important economic cities is through bank movement. The above cities from Lagos to PH to Onitsha to Kano has heavy presence of banks and we all know that banks goes where there is huge economic activities. The front three winners are Lagos, PH and Onitsha, also the three above mentioned cities has Port facilities that will flourish and bouy economic activities the more 1 Like |

"Premier Breweries, Onitsha, Anambra State, has also witnessed a touch of transformation from its decay with signs that it would commence operations by the end of February 2012, after 12 years in the doldrums. The signs include new potable water and sealing machines and two refurbished production lines. The company which used to be the largest brewery operating from a point at 1.6 million hl per annum as at 2006 has been witnessing a turnaround when Odyssey West Africa, an American investment firm, emerged a major shareholder having acquired stakes of Claus Bongard, former German investors." http://www.tellng.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1095:moribund-companies-on-the-rebound&Itemid=125&tmpl=component&print=1 |

^ Don't mind the boy Abagworo, he is just a piece of work. I think you conveniently busted his bubble. Tell me in clear terms how many people moves to Owerre for a anything except for 'umu-akwukwo' who moves away from the dry town in droves once they through with school. Owerre is not even up one third of Onitsha. Onitsha has developed beyond its borders, that is why the UN adjudged the city among the five fastest developing cities in the world. Just like somebody pointed out, Asaba has become a surburb of Onitsha city just because of the nearness to each other. Onitsha is among the major Nigeria cities as PH, Lagos that people move to live and work/trade for economic reason which drives movement people and investor alike. Onitsha maybe crowded just like every other commercial/economic Nigerian cities, but it has also good residential neighborhoods just like in other economic cities. Am yet to see anybody that leaves school and decides to go to Owerre for anything whatsoever, except passing through the town en route to PH via the Onitsha expressway. 1 Like |

This governor has kept talking since he assumed office without nothing on the ground, I passed through owerre road last time en route to PH I was marveled that its still the same old projects started and abandoned by rochas are still on the ground.I have not seen any new project initiated and completed by this talkative, instead he has kept his mouth busy by vomiting trash everyday to deceive the people of the state. He should focus more on security, because high level of kidnapping and arm robbery issues in Owerre and its environs are quite horrible even when the town does not have money bags. |

Olodostein: As much as I don't agree with chino over his rampage, but we need to be mindful of our comments so as not raise more dust in further embarrassing the Igbos on NL. On the above highlighted, I think you are damn wrong, Anambra people were already seated and established in enugu as the capital of old Anambra state long before the creation of new Anambra and Enugu states respectively. Since after the creation of Anambra state and yet to see more Anambra people come to reside in enugu. Even the remaining civil servants are moving back to Awka to reside and work. I know for sure that an average Anambra man will likely reside in Abuja, Lagos, Onitsha, PH and Kano for economic reasons. |

Ozonna: yes am a fan of Chimaroke, because he brought wealth and employment to enugu state. Even my people of Ngwo benefited immensely too. I remember the days of Rainbow Net and so on. We will support Okey Ezea 2015 or Ugo Agbala if he is coming out again. We need a governor that will revive the abandoned rural areas. |

Mr.chippychappy: My friend you are not more enugu state citizen than myself. But I just tell you Anambra is well ahead of Enugu state. You can travel from Anambra north pole to the south pole without any road hitch, but can you do the same in Enugu state? You can't even travel from 9th mile to Nsukka without meeting your waterloo. I will always say the truth the way it is. They have got the human capital, they have got the natural resources, they have got the rural areas connected to each other. I mean development goes beyond what you see in enugu urban. Have you asked yourself why a place like Nsukka has not developed beyond being a university village? We need to open our eyes and see through the big scam by Sullivan. He has not created wealth nor attracted one single investment to employ the youths. Instead our youths are running to Abuja, Lagos, PH, Onitsha and so on just to make a living. And some fools are online praising Enugu this enugu that. |

billante: Thats the point am trying to make. Nkwo is my home town and my mom is from Isikwe-Achi, do you know that the road from Oji River to Achi is highly inaccessible and unmotorable. Infact I couldn't even travel in my car to Achi to see my maternal home because of bad road. Until we have a governor in Enugu state that will develop the rural areas enugu state will continue to be 75% rural and poor. |

spyder880: @ one.east, please chill, my place in Nomeh Nkanu east has never ever had a road project since life began. Ngwo is 100% better than my place, and you are calling the govnor. Which youth? Can the youth be more powerful than government, more especially on a project that will turn their lives for good. I mean the governor should stop immediately this deception in enugu urban. I asked earlier have you been to Udi? Udi is over 100years old, but today their is no hospital nor a commercial bank in the entire Udi. Its all because the rural areas has been left to rot away. Most people does not even spend holidays in enugu rural areas because of inaccessible nature of the place. I have a friend from Abagana, I spend my xmas every year in their town. Atimes I wish to be from the place because of how development has reached the grassroot. |

ZUBY77: Keep deceiving yourself, while drunk with celebration of fallacy. Ofcos there is nothing to celebrate yet in my home state of enugu. Its still a dry town without money and major business investments. rather SA machineries has come to rob our enterprising people their daily bread. I bet you all these shoprite your killing yourself with, will soon go the way of UAC, Mr Biggs, Lennards and the rest of them and our people will be laid out and dumped again. Just wait small and see. The earlier we empower our people agriculturally by providing the necessary rural road infrastructures that is heavily at deficit in enugu state the better we will all become. Check it again: Abia- has oil and gas Imo- has oil and gas Anambra -has oil and gas including refinery Ebonyi- has agriculture Now tell me in clear terms what has Enugu? Enugu state has nothing instead we are celebrating few KM of roads tarred in the urban center, start facing reality for once, the error we fail to correct today will hurt us in the near future. Already Enugu state is listed among the financially incapacitated and weak states. Keep busy bro 1 Like |

PROUD-IGBO: My point is that the governor should stop deceiving himself. He should concentrate attention in rural areas to empower the people over there. Even the road from 9th mile to my house at Ngwo is quite unmotorable. I had to pack my car at 9th mile all thru the xmas because of inaccessibility of the rural communities. I so much wish that my lovely state Enugu will soon develop eveningly more especially rural, just like we are seeing in our sister state Anambra. Can you imagine that I was amazed when I got to Agulu last month it was already developing into a town because of govt provision of accessible infrastructure. Places like Ekwulobia and Umunze are presently witnessing influx of people, business and bank presence due to accessible roads there reducing rural-urban migration. I want to see a day when places as Udi and Nsukka of over 100years will be revived for people to live and trade/work and attract businesses. Before now Chimaroke commenced construction of an International market along the expressway after 'ugwu onyeama', the project was to trap huge capital flight leaving Enugu state on daily basis to Onitsha for shopping, this governor should have completed the project instead he has gone on a wide goose chase, leaving the rural areas to rot. Even farmers cannot transport their wares due to inaccessibility. We cannot keeping praising a failed governor who is merely running maintenance and painting of roads on already existing infrastructure. We in Ngwo cannot wait for a capable hand to take over government soon. |

Our people keeps celebrating mediocrity. What is positive economic impact of shoprite, if not killing our local enterprises? Showing showing pictures of shoprite, its funny attitude of toddlers. Showing pictures of urban areas, what about enugu rural areas? Have any of you celebrators of failure traveled to Udi to Nsukka to Awgu to Ugwuaji to Nkanu to Achi ann that axis of timidities in enugu state? Am from Nkwo but it pains me when I tour round rural communities of enugu state, its really really a horrible sight to behold. Its has made enugu state of over 100 years to continue to be over 70-75% rural. 1 Like |

Am not chino. Obi live in Awka and Agulu. Am not here to compare state capitals, each has its peculiarities. As for Awka its growing into huge hospitality city, because within a short period of time hotels, clubs and jolly spots has overtaken living houses in the town. I will leave you to wallow in your ignorance. You might as well ask me where is Okokomaiko. Awka is looking good everyday, the only undoing of Awka is Onitsha-Awka expressway which is presently under construction. |
