Not a very good news, apparently baby has decided to born in our country and not in the USA. Indeed, during our last visit to the doctor, he advised us to avoid all trip! embarassed Mother and baby’s health have to be preserved after all.

Thank you to all of you (hardeymijuh, Fabulousmom, vivian, Babababy, peacenigeria, etc.) for the support, exchanges etc. ..
I remain available to provide any useful information.

We are processing for the reimbursement of plane tickets. Finally, we were planning to go to El Paso (doctores parati). Melissa was very kind and proactive with all her answers.

It will be for the next baby Inch Allah! wink

emispackage: Good day guys... just got into houston. mehn, it was hectic. Came in with my husband. He was stamped in without stress. For me, they took me into a room for questioning o. As I told the guy I was pregnant. It was a terrifying one, esp as I saw a pregnant nigerian woman they were sending back. After waiting for a while, I was asked my intentions again. And was advised to stay away from any form of Govt funding and to keep all my receipts. With wat I experienced today, I don't think going wit ur husband changes anytin o. Cos the nigerian lady was there wit her husband too. He was stamped in but was told the they wld be deporting his wife back. Good luck to all the peeps traveln soon....cheers

Nice to hear this good new for you.

But it also confirms one more time to avoid Houston as POE

Have a safe stay!!Nice sunday to all

Hi Papadebaby,

Since you have not signed the contract document with MIHS, I guess Maria is the person that would take you on a tour of the hospital. Thereafter, you can go to Admin section and sign the contract followed by scheduling of your wife's first appointment.

For the car seat, I would advice that you buy one when you get to the US instead of taking one from your home country.

Wishing you all the best.

@ Hardemeyjuh and Vivianobas

Nice to read you again Vivian, Thanks for the advices!

Hardemijuh, I wish you a safe and good trip to phoenix !
My wife get them on phone today again (Maria) she confirms her appointment for the last week of december and she gave her the contact of another women (Stella?) for other medical informations we need. But my wife didn't get stella right now, she will try later today.

Stay in touch smiley

I also tried to get in touch with them, got them on phone....but still need to follow-up with them...

I Plan to visit them this week, maybe Friday (I pray i can)...if You have any questions, please let me know so i can ask them....

@ Everyone,

If you have any questions for Maricopa Integrated health System, Please put them on this tend before noon Thursday...

@Hardeymijuh

Nice to see your response!!!

We pray you could visit MIHS

I have three questions for Maricopa:

1) Could we have an appointment letter before coming to Phoenix?

2) Is it necessary to plan another appointment (with doctor) immediately after the first appointment or the first one will be done directly with the doctor? (So that the process can begin..)

3) Could they guide us about affordable and secured accommodations near Maricopa and what are their advices about Extended stay E.Oak neighborhood?

Thanks in advance.

@Fabulousmom

Thank for the informations about baby seat!!

About delivery baby car seat in Nigeria, I am not in Nigeria, in my country, a new baby seat cost 3 times the cost in US or in Europe, could you imagine that shocked We (my wife and me) have to save our CFA one by one ooo…. smiley

@hardeymijuh and papadebaby,

I'm glad things are going well for you. I do hope and wish you'll not hesitate to share good testimonies about phoenix after your experience. Best wishes.

@hardeymijuh

We have taken an appointment for the last week of december, but we need to talk to « Maria » ( Dr Maria perhaps) to have more information about it. We have called tree or four times but I think the first times we were not oriented trough the right person. Our last call this week permits us to make this appointment but the communication ended before we get other information.
Problems with Telecom Operators probably!!

@Vivianobas

Is it “Dr Maria” who conducts the first appointment? I understand that it is at the first appointment that our plan will be confirm ( normal or C section).
Within the next two weeks we will contact again Maricopa .
As mentioned in a previous post, we plan to book (airplane) at the end of October.
Before this date, we are also making our last cost simulations ( Maricopa seems cheaper than doctorsparati for approximatively 1000 USD or more, we are also waiting about other informations from Maryland if we get it!).

@fabulousmom

You mentioned it is an obligation to have a seat car for the baby. My wife has already commanded one but it will be deliver in our country, so I would probably have to bring it with me when I will join her in January. I was saying to her before you write your post, that it could be better for us to command the seat car while waiting the baby in US but….the day after she order the seat, you wrote your post about it!!!

@All

Have a nice week end!!!!

@ Papadebaby,

Wow......Great Research!!! Am sure you would have spent days before reaching these conclusions....Good decision and I think I will do the same.

The reviews on extended Stay Phoenix E.Oak seems better than crossland studios...I'll keep checking and will keep everyone posted.

Have you confirmed when you intend travelling?

@hardemijuh

Not yet for confirmation. We continue to explore in maryland but seems to be less favorable for us. Just because we have family there.
But we have to confirm at the end of october ( deadline). All things we are doing now is a planning in that my wife would fly during the second half of december and I will join her 2 or 3 weeks later. We are also planning a C section due to medical reason and because the birth date could be planned.

@Fabulousmum,
Good to hear from you again and thanks for the support.

I checked through the hotels and they seem far from MIHS, but one can never be too sure.....so i'll do more research on it.

I also checked some hotels yesterday, Extended Stay America Phoenix - Airport -E.Oak St., 4537 E. Oak st, Phoenix, AZ 85008 US and Crossland Economy Studio (Vivianobas suggested this earlier).

I"ll keep all posted on any info i get. Thanks a lot.

@ All,

Have a lovely weekend.

@ hardemijuh , fabulusmom and All

We have made researches this week and after considering parameters like safety, distance etc. we have decided to make reservation for Extended stay E Oak and Crossland economy studio as the reservations could be cancel. We continue to search for rooms or special vacations rental affordable. Extended stay E Oak is not cheaper than crossland or Intow suite by I think we have to consider the review ( on trip advisor etc.) and other things like distance (3.9 mi for Extended E OAk, time of transportation by bus...40 min, or by taxi(emergency)..10 min with a cost near to 10 $ i have estimated).

@papadebaby,

What are the other hotels close to Maricopa, i tried to check for some but there are mostly non-furnished apartments and they all ask for at least 6 months lease.

As for the required documents, i will advise you get the appointment letter from Phoenix before travelling and have enough money to prove that you can make all payments and take care of yourself...

I found : Econo Lodge Phoenix Airport, 3037 East Van Buren st, Rode Way Inn, 2501 East Van Buren St, ?? price?? Knights Inn phoenix Air port / Downtow 2445 East Van Buren st. Perhaps the price I found were not true? but you can try this link(originally in french) if it doesnt work try on booking.com :

vivianobas:

I do not need to convince anybody as we are all entitled to our beliefs and options. I was originally meant to have delivered in San Diego, California but changed my mind when I visited MIHS and thank God I was not disappointed. I have over 5 personal friends who delivered in MIHS without any complaints of any kind, so why worry myself over some people coming to nairaland to procrastinate over where to deliver and where not to. I delivered March 8th and got all my baby's documents in 3 weeks - Birth certificate after 3 days, American Passport after 9 working days of submission at the court, and Social Security card after 3 weeks of delivery. What more can I ask from an hospital who made my delivery exceptional, a City that provided afordability and a State laying claim to my son for life? No one can convince me otherwise cos if I have to go through it all, I will still choose MIHS. Finito!

@Vivianobas

We have called Maricopa, they told us that it is not necessary to do something special before coming, just take an appointment. But what kind of document we need to show at POE if asked?

For the accommodations, as suggested Crossland Economy seems to be OK but I noticed that there are some hotels close to Maricopa for approximatively the same price. From your experience and knowledge of the town ( via your brother also I think?), wich quarters are safe for a single woman ( 3 to 4 weeks before I arrive),, with transport and groceries near? Is it the case for Crossland?

Thanks in advance Vivian for the advice or all other person who could help.

@ Mrs Bee,

Good to know you arrived safely with no immigrations issue...Trust you are settling down gradually!!!

@ All,
Happy Sunday...Wish you a blissful week

Anyone planning to travel in December; New York, New Jersey, Phoenix, Houston, El Paso.....My wife and I intend to travel in December precisely second week....

@ All,

Thanks a lot for all these informations provide on nairaland.Com

My English is not so good because I am from a francophone country, but I was saying to my wife that we have to found information from naija because in my mind it was in that direction that we could be better informed about how to give birth in USA cheesy

After reading all the 23 pages of posts + our own research, we are planning to go probably to phoenix (1srt choice, thanks vivianobas, abiolu and Mrs bee) but El Paso could be a good choice also. But We have family in Maryland, Chicago and New York and as it was said by someone on this forum, It could be more “safe” for my wife to be in a city where she knows somebody. So If there are some good addresses ( affordable hospitals and rooms) in Maryland, chicago or New York, we could think about this option.

@hardeymijuh
My wife will probably fly by the second half of December, we are in the same case I think… Which choice? ( Phoenix, El paso, new York or Chicago)
