Religion / Re: Why Do People Treat The Jehovah Witnesses Like A Plague by phantasm(m): 8:08pm On Nov 20, 2013
italo:

But you have just proved that you taught a lie:

"The year A.D. 1878 … clearly marks the time for the actual assuming of power as King of kings, by our present, spiritual, invisible Lord - …" The Time is At Hand (1911 ed) p.239

Why do I need to prove it again?

Once, I was on a thread of similar argument. But what I have observed so far on this thread is that people like you cover your ulcers and try to treat someone who's problem is just a simple headache- Which ofcourse is very curable. Observing the arguments so far, without taking sides with whatsoever groups or persons involved, I'll categoratically say you ITALO specifically (and your likes) lacks substantial prove or evidence and are so illogical to the extent that I'm beginning to think you're grown but not yet mature. When you accuse someone of lying, and he comes and tell you that- hey! It was a human error on my part to do that. I was so eager to find answers and my conclusion was wrong. I think here's is what the correct answer should be. I'm no genius nor am I special; but as far as I observe that I was wrong on a particular matter, I'll humbly accept and do what's right- and with public proves of such statements and YOU still come ahead and hammer on what's now a pointless matter, then its a big shame on your kind of wisdom and mentality. Its people like you who accept as true every garbage of information you get over the internet. If this were a court and I were a judge, then you're the loser. for example, Isaac Newton's works on calculus and some other stuffs were very right including his basic laws of motion. Then Albert Eistein came and recognized a significant improvement which might have been overlooked or unthought of by Newton since he lived in a period when science was just an elementary stage. Is it then right for us to say Isaac Newton was a liar? If he was, remember, Albert Eistein wouldn't have had anything to build on in terms of modification. Newton simply committed a human error marred with probably 'emotions' and primitiveness and although Albert modified his laws, he either had little info that was sufficient for his own time. Even today, with high energy scientific experiments, there are speculations that eistein could be "wrong" when he assumed the speed of light to be farthest which can't be surpassed. If the experiment is proven, are we permitted to say that Eistein Preached lies?

In life, as a scientist, I've learnt to reason or aview a matter very objectively and walk along the path evidences are pointing to. I do have some JW who visits me once a while and many other friends from other christian demonations. But what differentiates them from other demoninations is in the way of their reasoning from the bible which all christians believe is the word of God and how they mostly argue by not just quoting but reading from the bible itself and how most others argue from what their "pastor says"... Maybe that's why I find your argument very repulsive because you just believed and quoted what someone told you (which I believe is one of those biased opinion which I mostly come across over the internet...

Y'all can hit me back with words, its ok to throw tantrums... I just really feel for those who are educated and yet unlearned...its all about logic in reasoning, presenting your arguments and accepting defeat. This sort of argument is what is termed by someone as "beginning endlessly."

And to the JW; there's no need to argue further if someone insists he has no thinking faculty or he chooses to think the way he chooses. Just ignore and look on. That's one thing a JW colleague of mine always emphasise on- No arguments. If he shows me where what is from the bible and I still try to argue, he cuts me off the conversation.why can't you apply same wisdom?..... I know I could be prideful sometimes!!!

Music/Radio / Re: Which Songs/Music Videos Pisses You Off Bigtime? by phantasm(m): 4:47pm On Oct 08, 2013
So far, my best in no particular order are: Paulplay Dairo, Bez, 2face, MI. The first 2 are top class... One thing I like about 2face is he improves everytime. Those some of his songs make me feel like flogging him with koboko. And 90% of his videos are descent also. MI is nothing but a matured man. Though, playful sometimes (eg Chairman) but very matured a rapper....

I know ASA, Banky W, Modenine, and some few other are good to the lyrics but I just get bored most times I listen to them esp over a consecutive period of time.

Those I detest with passion are: Iyanya, Wizkid, KCee, Terry G, Ice prince, Jesse jagz, Olamide, etc... No lyrics, just repetitive words, all about "shaking," "doing" and "giving" that thing- nothing more, nothing less.

I rarely watch TV and stream on more important things these days so can't talk much on video.

90% of western hiphop, I hate... Is more about drugs, yarnch, spending aimlessly etc...

@StarFlux. Can you assist with information on how to get a job in norway. What's their labour shortage and what are my chances of been admitted as a foreigner. Actually, my goal is to study and if possible, hold a permanent residence permit there but I can't really afford the 2million+ they requesting. And I'm on a self-sponsorship package. So its difficult raising as much fund. But if I could get a job, I'd work and save up for my study there (Theoretical Physics)... Would appreciate your response.

Anyone with info on the salary structure of Shell Contract workers, from entry to experience level positions and compared to a full-time staff of same organisation. And how feasible is it to be absorbed as a permanent staff? And if possible, give samples of such agents for contract works into any oil and gas field. Thanks in advance.

Heritage still never invite me for essay and oral interview talkless of ED. Maybe not yet.
But all the same, I wish those who've been called and met with ED luck and hope you all are invited for medicals and eventually admitted into TS.
As much as I'll really like to work with this bank, I have to be realistic and try and look ahead. Still hopeful though...
And those of us not yet called, as we are hoping for a surprise message from HB, let's also try and keep focus, looking ahead to a happy ending. In the end, we shall all smile.
That we've come thisfar is a signal that we also have what it takes. Wish us all luck...

And one more thing- either we are called or not, eventually we'll all be gainfully employed someday, somewhere, somehow- don't eat with your ten fingers... Always have a meaningful "something" in your savings... These days, nothing is predictable...

Gracias...

Kay 17:

In other words, with assistance from the earliest manuscripts, you have no idea of within what time frame God created everything. So why assume it conformed with present scientific views?? Isn't that dishonest?!

I do not know what or where you are driving at. The question was about how compatible science was with the bible. And I made it clear that true science , based on facts supports the bible. I started by quoting someone's (or a reply to that arguement)arguement that science says the earth is billions of years old while in the bible, he saw it was thousands of years old. Then I refered back to the BIBLE since it is self explanatory, and it says "IN THE BEGINNING, God created the heaven and earth." and later describes the events of "6 creative days" all which affects the earth that was already created in the beginning. And I explained that the days weren't literal but the root word translated day could mean a "period of time" or "season" and I said many translations use different words why some explained those words as used in the context as footnotes or in the Appendix....

And I plainly noted that how long this periods were, aren't actually stated in the Bible account of Genesis. And availaible evidence prooves and coincides with the Genesis account in terms of emergence of life and different kinds.

So, what are we saying here, Sir?
Religion / Re: Is Science More Accurate Than The Bible? by phantasm(m): 3:32pm On Sep 18, 2012
ghazzal:

with the word "SCIENTIFICALLY", i dont know what u mean. annihilator is to end/kill something and creator is to make something from nothin.
what is the point

Annihilator and Creator are scientific terms. So what I meant is for you not to explain the words literally but the Scientific meaning.

But anyway, to drive to my point, the definition you gave is wrong. The simplest way to explain the two words above from the 'root meaning', i'll state them below and explain my reason for such question.

*Anihilator: Anti- particle, Negative(but not in the literal sense) .
*Creator; particle, positive(not literal also)
when a creator(particle) and annihilator(anti- particle) meets, we have pure energy(the particle decays). Both have mathematical representations but, thats not what we are talking here.
##NB: + or -, doesnt imply charge such as electron on proton. So dont expect a proton to meet with an electron to give pure energy in the sense i made above. (e.g the anti-particle of an electron is a Positron. So u could expect electron+positron= energy in eV.)##

Those are the root meaning for those words and it is from there the concept of creator/annihilator evolves from.

Now, my point: I could have come straight to you that what is the meaning of negative and positive, which ofcourse you'ld be cheap to you, or ask you to interms of particle/anti-particle which prob'ly might also be a hot cake for you. But I didnt do that. I asked you in a form I know you may not be able to understand even when I gave you clues to it.
Now, your arguement is that since God knows that a sphere is sphere, why didnt he permit the use of sphere instead of round? If i could ask you in a form you dont understand and you didnt give me my answer, how do you expect us to understand God if he had used terms we are unable to understand? There is a reason why God used what is common and understandable to us to explain what is strange or we cannot see. God could have used the angels to write the Bible or just send it to us, but he sure wants us to read, understand and apply in the language, emotions and descriptions we'd understand.......

ghazzal:

so who was called Jesus before him. or do you know how many words in the dictionary today that exist only in the bible. or does the Bible God not know that the actual word is sphere then, or that it is a better word to use.

Using your arguement, let me ask you a question:
What is an annihilator? What is a creator? And differenciate between the two SCIENTIFICALLY...

(Only your answer counts here. I would disregard anyone who answers the question either in your behalf or not. And I will know if you google it out.).

If you can answer, answer. If you can't just say: I just wanted to drive out a point to you based on your arguement...

Your interpretation fills huge gaps with possibilities without considering the vast possibilities can also be filled in those gaps and too complicated.

The Genesis account mentioned 7 days. The account already provided the time measurement, why disregard it? Or is that the sacrifice to force an agreement with the present scientific view?

Sir, I didnt disregard any "7days" as mentioned in Genesis. I only said the "root word" translated day (and check as many bible translations as possible) has no specific time impregnated in it. The root word could mean "a period", "season" etc. Now, how many days are in a period or season?

Granted, many translations used "day" but I am quite sure that some of those translations if not most, always explain some 'translated words' the way the 'root word implies in the context' as footnotes or appendix........

But the Bible itself is clear about the issue.

Consider this statement:
The man left his room with the LAMP on. When the wife returned and entered the room, she found that the temperature was high for the husband left the LANTERN on.......
Lamp is a common name for any source of light.

Let's assume that the word "Round" was used 10years ago to describe a ball. Today, we have a word used to describe more specifically the shape of a ball which is sphere. Would it be wrong to use those words interchangeably since we've all be calling a ball 'round' before we conclude that a '3D round= sphere.'?

Even today, football is fondly called by some people the "round object" or "round ball".... Besides, both words could be applied to describe different objects or events in the book you mentioned and there is no crime using the words to desribe "1 object".

Also, the common name or description of Circles, Spheres and even some imperfect curves is ROUND. The bible was written in simple Languages and at some time, when complex words or logics are used, they are explained in the bible itself. The Bible explains itself...
Religion / Re: Is Science More Accurate Than The Bible? by phantasm(m): 2:02pm On Sep 18, 2012
thelastPope: The irony of the whole argument is how can you totally depend on science when science is inconclusive by definition. Science is discovery. That simple definition is proof that there is God. If science has dicovered all, then it can claim that there is no God. But as long as science is still in a journey and has no clue what lies ahead in the journey, it is f00lish for any scientist to claim there is no God. Claiming there is no God is the same as claiming that science has reached its journey's end. Then science will no longer be discovery and all research should be stopped!

You made sense with that. Never thought of it that way before.
Religion / Re: Is Science More Accurate Than The Bible? by phantasm(m): 2:00pm On Sep 18, 2012
mkmyers45:

I have proved severally that they are different words for the two in Hebrew and the two are even used in the bible...

Recently, a popular Engish dictionary updated and added more new words to it. The bible was written for a span of over 1600 years. The book that describes the earth as being round was one of the earliest written work (in time). The volumes of words used then cannot be compared to the volumes of word used about 10-20 years later same as the dictionary example I stated above.
That the words translated "round" and "sphere" are found in the bible only imply at least two things:

- The time those accounts where the words are used and applied are gapped.

- The bible was not revised and edited but was only copied and transfered.
Religion / Re: Is Science More Accurate Than The Bible? by phantasm(m): 1:35pm On Sep 18, 2012

Round: The shape of a closed curve with no sharp corners

Sphere: is a perfectly round geometrical object in three-dimensional space, such as the shape of a round ball.

you sound preety much like a Mathematician, physicist or someone skilled in the two fields.
1. To go by your definition, the "volume integral of 'a round' is a sphere." If that is so, then you are saying the same thing but in a different direction or angle.

2. In most archaic languages such as Hebrew and archaic Aramaic and Greek, there are no specific word for certain things. So, writers describe such things with group of words. It is now we coin out words or borrow from foreign languages to describe any such nameless object or whatsoever thing that needs a personal identity.
Religion / Re: Is Science More Accurate Than The Bible? by phantasm(m): 1:21pm On Sep 18, 2012
mkmyers45:

Are you suggesting a gap theory?

I am not suggesting anything. All I am saying is that the Bible is scientifically true. But I'll like to understand by what you mean by gap theory so that i do not conclude on what i suppose you had in mind by "gap theory."

But I understand, from the pages of the bible that Life was created in distinctive kinds, even when they are created at "the same periods." for example, the Account of Genesis 1: 20, 21 show that during the "fifth day" or "fifth period," God created every living creature (precisely, all animals) according to its kind. Then, God blessed them and the "fifth day" ended. Then the sixth day.... So, logically, there must be some time difference in those times, days or periods but since its not specified, no one can conclude on how long or how short those gaps are....

And science confirms all these facts. I could reference some Science books/ Journals by reputable scientists and institutions if you like.....

(I hope my presumption about what you meant by "gaps" is actually what is treated. If not, please specify)

The Egyptian were well vast in Mathematics and Medicine at that time....

How can the earth hang on nothingness? Is that logically valid?

I sam 2: 8 "He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, And He set the world on them.

Who is the Lord? What came into existence without "through the Lord"? If nothing is your answer to the second question, then, What does the Bible imply when it says the world hangs on nothing; And, ''that the pillars of the earth are the lord's"?

Is not through the Lord that the laws of Nature were set? And who makes the world hangs on nothing but setting and applying the law of gravity?
Is it then wrong to say "the Lord" who sets the laws of gravity and hangs the earth over nothing is not the pillar? Have you ever considered how the force of gravity is maintained?
The one who sets and maintains those powerful laws is the pillar- but he sets the world over nothing (physical). which is so true expecially in the age where it was believed that the earth hangs on many stuffs like a giant Tortoise, Elephants etc.

What you Just said only supports the fact you quoted and aimed to proove wrong... Please, look at the context before disproving anything. Its wrong to jump into conclusions without verification of matters. Give evidence that support your claims and not those that supports your "opponent's" claim.....
Don't make this mistake in a court of law.

manmustwac: So how old is this planet according to the bible then 6 to 10'000 years? undecided While science give a more accurate description like 4 billion years

Contrary to what you think, the bible gives more than an accurate information on that. It says in Genesis (and if you care to, confirm) "in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." after that, it futher says "and the earth proved to be formless and empty... ." That implies one thing: The earth has long been created before the "6 day" creative periods. And the "days" mentioned is not literal nor 6000years; the root Hebrew word translated day in the Genesis accounts indicated "a time period", "a season in time" etc....

And Science has proven all this to be accurate. For example:
- Science confirms with evidence that the planet has existed before any trace of the existence of life

- Science even disproves evolution when it accounts that contrary to what evolutionary scientists claim, Available Evidences imply that Life suddenly appears- uniquely defined and sudden -at different ranges of time and NOT that simpler lives evolved to complex ones...

The Bible is actually compatible with true Science(ie Science based on evidence and truth).

Not using the medical terms, let me describe bi-polar disorder....

Its like a case of boiling water and Ice. The manic session is like a boiling water that is too hot to swallow. In this stage, there is some kind of energy that its so easy for a stranger/someone close to note that one is exited/overly exited. Gradually, when this energy is used up, one quickly runs to the Ice stage(depression). The (overly)exited person suddenly becomes dull. You (the obsever)could notice this period but you sure cant imagine the thoughts of the victim during this stage. In some cases, selflessness, worthlessness, and unfounded guilt dominates the victim's heart. Some actually feel like suicide is the answer since to them, no one cares about them, they are invisible n bla bla bla... But then, it depends on the victim/sufferer... There is somewhat a 3rd stage but not in all instances and not in all victims...The Lukewarm session.... Its usually a stage when the victim is unsure if he's recovering or relapsing. This time, the victim tends to be creative(sometimes destructive) like writing very emotional poetry, stories or songs(creative) OR expressing short impulses of anger, destroying once valued work like poetry, music, and giving out things.....

Treatment:
one thing to note is that there is no absolute treatment. Some use cofee( or other stimulants like colanut or drugs) in the ICE stage, taking advantage of caffeine but its not always helpful cos after it's taken you high, it drops you far beyond the initial low. Its always adviced for the victim to get more social and outgoing, to think and worry less, stay in a warmer place, get more of sunshine bla bla bla...

Medically, there are some drugs but it is best to check with your health consultant to help with what drug is best for you. Else, one could be self medicating using the wrong drug or dosage and would make matters worse in the end.

Every ariste has the right to choose or tailor what genre of music he'll like to major or minor on. Besides, genres or styles of music are not and can never be uniquely registered to any kind of region....

And to all those who kept saying local artistes borrowed from from intl ones as early as the early 2000's- that was a big lie. Tony Tetuila before his collaboration with Tic Tac has released some fast track, danceable songs which wasnt influenced at all by what some people are claiming. It was even during his era that there came to birth Tic Tac n the likes...
The internet is a good library for research and some acclaimed media houses that were and are still around are also places to inquire of facts....

If as some people here claim that the 'intl' guys originated fast tempo hiplife songs like the ones prevalent in our locality today and you were all good at mentioning some of thier legendary artistes of highlife who could have started the trends many years back. Then where would you put the likes of our late and living and legendary fast if not faster tempo highlife artistes like Sir Orlando Julius, Dairo, and some eastern folks with thier distinct and creative styles of highlife music?

Is wrong to steal from another person's work without the owner's consent and I am not disputing that, but the matter of genres or style of music is a different ball game entirely.....Artistes are at liberty to choose what style of music suit them...
