When a bank staff does an erroneous transfer, it’s often the case, that even such staff cannot do the reversal, such reversal is usually authorized by a superior. So if I am a teller, and I posted the wrong amount to your account, I can’t just get an additional deposit slip and post the rest. There has to be a system reversal of the earlier posting. One time, there was such error, this time, the amount posted was more than the amount deposited by the customer, on realizing the error, the teller quickly filled a withdrawal form to rectify the erroneous deposit. Eventually the staff was fired. The account was a savings account, and when the customer didn’t receive the expected benefit, she contacted her account office, who stated that she withdrew more than she needed to, in order to be a beneficiary of the interest payment, the customer objected to this, denied so , and made the account officer probe further. The account officer eventually saw the unauthorized withdrawal. Even a staff cannot tamper with the customers instructions or account. The whole reversal has to be recorded in the Bank’s system. Also, imagine, this customer who has a lien on his account, has a dependent involved in an accident, and needed to access the fund in his account to get medical help but couldn’t..,because of no fault of his, then the dependent died due to inaccessible fund, don’t you think he should sue the bank for murder? These are the types of cases that informs the banks disposition towards a customer’s fund or account. I am pretty sure, in placing such lien, the history of the recipient account was examined, and such informed their action. I do understand why several people are castigating the employee. A professional advice would have been, to get a court order. But then, the employee should also be commended for giving a realistic advice, even the cost of obtaining such order may exceed the amount you want reversed. And so, the alternative, does require prayer. The bank cannot disclose the recipient contact information to you, that will be a breach of confidentiality. At the best, they will reach out on your behalf, but if the customer is dead or inaccessible, you ultimately will need a court order, and so, to not encumber the troubles in getting your issue solved, prayer has been advised. For a surgery, we pray, for an exam, we pray, for traveling, we pray, The blacks in America are praying, that their youths not end up like Floyd or get shot by a cop … so each nation, its issue…and it is so in many places across the world. |

Quantumheight: You are wrong the bank has the right to withdraw the money since it is an error transfer. I once had the experience some one made a transfer to my first bank account and my bank had to block me from performing any kind of transaction becos the person that made transfers had laid a complaint to them. My bank have to call me on phone and after asking me some questions I told them that they should transfer back the money to the person that i don't know the person and beside it a wrong transfer. |

I was a victim of same situation. The owner of the account you wrongly paid to has to give approval for the withdrawal, otherwise. My money was returned to me after the approval. It took almost a month because the owner of the account delayed giving his approval. He claimed he was expecting some money but unfortunately it was not from my source. Anyway you still need to pray bro. |

mrksquare: Yes. But in Nigeria anything can happen. There was a boy in uniben who account was mistakenly credited with 1bn from a company. They tried reaching him and the company even promised to be compensate him. When he got the alert he pack and ran away thinking he could use the money. They went to his hostel but he wasn't there that was when the school became aware of the issue and his hostel mates understood why he left suddenly. They issue out an alert for him and track him down to another state where he tried to withdraw with atm and was arrested. The money was transferred without his consent. |

Macolapablo: Well, the bank can't refund your money just because you said it was erroneous. If they did so, scammers will buy goods, run to the bank and claim that the money they paid was erroneously transferred. But the bank shouldn't leave it to prayer either. They ought to help contact the acct holder if he must activate the transfer back to you. |

[quote author=Macolapablo post=109892559]Good afternoon comrades. Please, forgive me if I am in the wrong section. I made an Erroneous Transfer on the 6th of January from my Gtbank account to another Gtbank account. I went to the bank to complain and I was given a form to fill. Infact, I was told the account has been blocked so there's no way the owner can withdraw the money. I was expecting the customer care official to move my money back since it has been verified that I did the transfer truely. The funniest reply I got was that I should go and pray to God to touch the owner of the account. ABEG, WETIN CONCERN GOD with transfer? Please, any idea how I can get my money back?. Your advice will be appreciated. It's just 30k Actually na only prayer go save this situation for you. I know a commercial bank staff member who mistakenly transferred someone's #200k into a wrong account. She made a mistake when keying in the depositor's account number. She had to pay back the #200k to the depositor from her own account. And the person who received the money wrongly transferred fund kept promising to return the money to but never did. The bank wasn't able to intervene. It's been over 4 years now. The money never go for good? So, pray. |

Macolapablo: Customer's express consent is needed even when the fund is on hold or get a court order which would help the bank reverse the money. Sometimes, customers refuse to give written or verbal consent 1 Like |
