Isn't the annual budget of NDDC 500bn? What do they do with it? Just a few projects here and there and every other thing stolen. The last time the MD of NDDC appeared at the national assembly, he fainted cheesy

Look at the governor of a state like Zamfara stealing 70bn. How much do you think the Wikes, Udoms, Okowas have stolen? Perhaps, this why none of them is going to the senate. They have enough money to last 10 generations.

No one should even come with that Nigeria is not generating enough revenue or not collecting enough tax again. Even if that is true, no way things are this bad if our politicians have any atom of conscience in them.

The idea of governance in Nigeria is that it's a means of fortune and hitting big. Unless there's a true patriot who comes to power, the cycle will only get worse.

INEC spent over 300bn to conduct a sham of an election and have mapped out 4bn to defend it.

When people talk about the bolded, I can't even quantify the amount of anger I feel towards such people and their line of reasoning.

I remember my old man once telling me about a statement Gowon was credited to have made that Money is not Nigeria's problem, but how to spend it is. Initially I thought my old man was just repeating what has been thrown over and over in the media space without any prove that Gowon did said that; but I later came across a thread on nairaland where it reported that Gowon actually admitted making the statement in the 70's.

https://www.nairaland.com/979808/money-not-problem-how-spend

It's funny that till date, that statement is still valid. The few states doing capital projects trying to solve some of our innumerable problems do so at a very high cost that doesn't even make any economic sense cos same projects cost lesser elsewhere apart from Nigeria. The just pad project costs without conscience while the other state governors don't even bother doing anything and just swallow the monies out rightly or buy overpriced assets in the name of the government that has no second hand value.

When I see people encouraging Nigerian Government to generate more revenue through more taxation blah blah blah.... i just feel they don't pay tax here and get to see how government waste their money on frivolities.

I remember Ajimobi vs Yinka Ayefele issue in Oyo state back then. Ayefele fell out with Ajimobi who was angry he(Ayefele) used his ownership of media organization to oppose him(Ajimobi) and support his political rival Alao-Akala. Ajimobi brought out state environmental law and had a portion of Ayefele's media house demolished citing he contravened some physical planning rule.

They later settled their differences and Ajimobi's government used state funds to restore and rebuild some parts of the building the government earlier put down. I wonder what those who pay tax in Oyo state will be thinking that time. How does a government use my money to demolish a premises and still use my money to restore it ?

If there was any kind of accountability in this country, we should probe all governors past and present since 1999 (particularly Niger-Delta governors). Every single one of them.

In 2013 alone, Akwa Ibom and Rivers got $1.7 and $1.3 billion respectively from the FAAC. Almost half the budget of Ghana for that year.

Higher in some years.

Forget the FG, I've always been more interested in the accountability of state governments. The amounts earmarked per kilometer of road in Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Delta are crazy, but most people don't read the fine details of these inflated contracts.

Corruption is really a sad tale in Nigeria.

This is why I get mad that people get to still drum support for the same people who are unapologetically corrupt. This time around, APC and PDP didn't even bother to campaign on anti-corruption because both their candidates were corruption- personified.

They didn't need to pretend because their propaganda and propagandists was already sufficient for them.

The common masses like us who enable these people are the cause of this problem.

Corruption in this country is getting worse by the day
The excuse will be Nigeria is not rich yet they are consuming the one we have, UK did a breakdown of what was spent on the queen's burial and I am sure every department can account for every penny.
But call even a sug president to give account of how his tenure went he will start convulsing gasping for breath like we sign his death warrant.

This is so unfortunate because there's nothing we can do, just this week a court in ekiti sentenced 3 people to death for stealing phones while we worship and asslick our criminal politicians

In the "Pandora report", did Peter obi steal anyone's money? Is it not his own earned money?
Yes, that can be at worst, interpreted as tax evasion which one can rationalize as a Nigerian businessman.

However, this is totally different from what we're seeing which is governors stealing Soo much public funds for their generations.

My man. Obi is not clean. If he is that clean why was he trying to hide his assets. Obi is just like everyone of of them. A huge question mark on how he became this wealthy.

Have you seen Wike stealing money? They are all corrupt.

You are absolutely right. Most of the proponents of the more tax more revenue are not in the country cheesy

I guess it's easier to sit somewhere and wish more tax on struggling citizens when the one they even pay is being stolen right before their very eyes.

I mean, in a line up of 2 chronic thieves who are set to steal our wealth further stupendously and someone who decides to hide his own clean -earned money, the choice is obvious.

It's a modern day miracle that a Nigerian governor of a state decided not embezzle public funds, especially when compared to his colleagues.

Tax evasion IS a crime, tax minimisation isn't

Income tax in Nigeria is only 10% or thereabout, therefore the most likely purpose of Pandora for a Nigerian is probably storage of looted funds

The distance from 1.5m to 1bn is a lot o...1.5m * 37 = 55.5m. Sometimes I feel like Nigerian's don realize how big 1 billion is, and that's why people easily overlook theft of billions by Nigerian politicians/civil servants.
