lovewins: I wasn't defending Finidi at all. Players attack or defend according to the coach's instructions since they are playing as a unit. A team can be in an attacking phase with or without the ball. When they are entirely in their own half with or without the ball they are defending, when they start making occupying the opposition's territory with or without the ball they are attacking 1 Like |

When Finidi used to play for the Super Eagles, there was something key about him. When he is an offensive position and gets the ball, he looks forward and decides to make an attacking move or pass back. I think this has formed the basis of his philosophy. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Meliforme: 7:06pm On May 29 |
TheGoodJoe: The decision for players to fall back (defend) when they lose the ball or to press the opponent (attack them still) to recover the ball, is the coach's decision to make. Like i have said, attacking and defending can be with or without the ball, it depends on whether the team have left their own half. |

Meliforme: From what I have seen so far, it goes deeper than that. For instance, number to attack a space when pressing, depending on the shape of the opponents. Either way, Finidi wants to teach the players his philosophy of attacking (which is deep) and defending (which is also deep). The more they understand this, the better the team stands chances to win, based on his philosophy. This to him is more important to win than the formation itself. I think it is a very brilliant take by Finidi. |

All these age grade tournaments we are missing means we have to rely on second-rate foreign borns for the foreseeable future. 7 Likes |

The statement is simple to understand if you want to! What pattern did you see across the national teams? Manu won under-17 World Cup! Finidi has played at the highest level. So what pattern did you see? lovewins: |

Footballers now have many route to football pinnacle. Most foreign clubs buy directly from academies! How many of our under 17 are currently in the national team. We have boys who never played under 17 at Inter, AC, Nice, Bayern etc. Subzerooo: 1 Like |

When it comes to transfers it's all noise until clubs put the money π€π° on the table. When several teams are putting bids in and declaring contract terms in direct competition with other clubs to sign you it's a reflection of quality and a player's high quality rating. Tosin Adarabioyo is almost able to dictate terms.

Marjoribanks:All those players that were bought directly from academies from nigeria, how many of them can we rely upon to win us tournaments? it's not just about having players in foreign clubs, it's about unearthing great talents through a process that has worked for us. How many of such academy players that foreign clubs bought directly from Nigeria can you say are on the same level with the likes of Ikpeba, Kanu,Babayaro,Oruma Mikel,Ogbuke, Ndidi,Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Osimhen,Chukwueze . Etc. If these players did not participate at the age grade tournaments starting from U17 ,do you think they would have attained this level? Some might want to mention the likes Stanley Okoro, Chrisantus, Sani Emmanuel, Yahya and the rest. But for the fact that our U17 teams has produced us some of our greatest players of all time,it worths taking very seriously. Not only the U17,but all our age grade teams 3 Likes |

We are taking it seriously but have been unlucky! CAF qualifying process has made it difficult for us to qualify! Imagine the Osimhen set meeting Ivory Coast at the WAFU semis, they would have lost too. The West Africa FAs are the most stupid in history for agreeing to that qualifying format! Watching El Khabi lead the lines for Olympiacos and I'm reminded that he was part of the Moroccan team that ran the CHAN eagles ragged few years ago. 4 - 0 in the finals I believe? The team had Ajiboye, Faleye, Okpotu, Utin, Ojo, Adeleke and the rest. Where are they today? π π 5 Likes 1 Share |

So he isnβt reliable because of his injury record. Whatβs your solution then, not to invite him when he is fully fit and on form? We have a plethora of strikers. This is not an Osimhen issue, but a selection one. When he is not available, someone should be able to step in. Kalakulu: 3 Likes 1 Share |

I am densely over "dense", instead of giving us the strength and weaknesses of invited player, their fitness level and the formation they can fit in for SA and Benin games especially the relatively unknown players, senior forumites are here arguing about a statement of a coach forgetting that we have different approach tΓ² Life and situations. I am so flabbergasted that some would even believe that a coach would play without a formation, perhaps we need to ask such ones whether they can build a house without foundation! 3 Likes 1 Share |

He just called foreign born Nigerian players as second rate and you are trying to change the English language. Your blinded by you own self birthed prejudices you cannot comprehend basic English. What people say and what they mean can sometimes be ambiguous, that's why I asked him to explain for clarity. But you Dr 2 Know ( mind -reader) have read his mind and want to explain for us. Danielnino00: No need to sugar coat it, those foreign borns are second rate anybody that doesn't like that fact can go to hell. Let's develop our youth system that is what has been working for us from the start instead of some players who see us as a fall back plan. What's so special about these FBs if I may ask? Of all the ones we've gotten, only Victor Moses was impactful and really worth it. Others have been just about average. And of all that we have missed, only a handful went on to be world beaters .A whole lot of them hv been us dodging a huge bullet. Reliance on FB is what is affecting Cameroon today, they have lost their identity as a team and no longer carry the fearsome reputation of time past because they've diluted the team with some overrated FBs. |

I'm of the opinion that our number 10 shirt be given to Ademola Lookman. In terms of performance, dude looks like he is finally being that replacement for Victor Moses that we have always wanted him to be. Though VicMo never wore the number 10 shirt, but it will look good on Lookman since Iwobi does not seem interested in it. It is an eyesore seeing our most revered jersey number on Aribo with his pedigree and constant below par performance. 11 Likes 1 Share |
