Bro, I want to explain TV shows to you. Just follow me carefully.

The legal ways to watch TV series and movies are through

1. The original channel e.g. FOX, BBC etc
2. Verified subscription services e.g. Netflix, Hulu, DSTV etc. Note, not all subscription services are legal.
3. Verified video rental services e.g Netflix DVD services.
4. Cinemas

The video rental and buying services in naija, all of them, are illegal.
Why? Because they do not pay the original owners of the videos they sell or rent. In fact, the discs we buy or rent are full of ripped content. They rip the original content illegally, and sell them to people for cash. These people keep the money and the original owners gain nothing.

Also, when you download from websites, you are committing a crime. REASON? Because the original owners don't get paid too. Website owners gain their cash through ads and traffic. They know they are running illegal business.

I'm not saying you should stop downloading shows and movies, because that is the only way naija people can gain cheap access to movies and shows.

If you have the cash though, you can spend your money on a really good internet service, Netflix, cinemas and a host of other channels.

Just wanted to let you know you had options Sha.

You can say they gain popularity. GOT is the most pirated TV show ever and the producers are aware. Yet they have not led a pirate-arresting crusade. They are okay with it does not mean law enforcement agencies are. If by mistake you mention illegal download of songs or videos in the US, free jail ticket bros.
