radautoworks: remove engine put another one 6hrs, car is back on the road and will stay on the road for over 100,000miles no shaking. Cost of labour 35k |
Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by radautoworks: 5:20am On Aug 25, 2018 |
GAZZUZZ: No, a reman is not tokunbo. Piyke, egunmogaji, ivoryhouse please help me explain reman since Gazzuzz wants to pretend he doesn't know what it is o!
|
Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by radautoworks: 5:22am On Aug 25, 2018 |
GAZZUZZ: Okay. Our labor for that was a little more and we presented both options with the caveat that we would not warranty an engine bought from third party. Customer chose this. The peace of mind option. |
Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by radautoworks: 5:34am On Aug 25, 2018 |
As your can see, a reman is done by MANUFACTURER and carries same warranty as new. It is NOT a tokunbo which is defined as a fairly used part. Not even close- and you know that. I'm a little disappointed in you that you'd try to pull that tbh.

Give a full breakdown of what this current rebuild involves. As I said before, swapping out crankshafts and oilpumps is not new, it's done every day as a quick cheap fix for a client with a low budget. used engines come in different packages too, same 1zz-fe engine can be gotten for As low as 150,000 (usa/canada specs) |

what are they remanufacture in a crankshaft? ![]() |
Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by radautoworks: 5:44am On Aug 25, 2018 |
GAZZUZZ: Ask manufacturer for me please I don tire. https://www.google.com/search?q=reman+crankshafts&oq=reman+crankshaft&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l2.5625j0j4&client=ms-android-essential&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8 Bottom line is you like to replace, we like to rebuild. We can do rebuilds you don't think are possible and/or worthwhile. Customers think otherwise. You'll continue to have your clients and we will continue to have ours. Over time, word will spread and we will have more and more. EgunMogaji was talking earlier about knowing clients won't be from Nairaland. I'm not here for them per se. I'm here so that techs like you see the future that is coming and hopefully come along because it's coming either way. At the very least, you need to consider and offer both options to your clients and let them pick. So far, it's 4-0 when we present both options. Will it always be that way? No, mostly with the environment we have. Evolve. 9 Likes |

GAZZUZZ: Evolve or get left behind Gazzuzz. My disappointment is that you tried to lie to win the argument knowing fully well what you were saying wasn't true. Beyond that, the rest of the discussion is personal preference but times are changing. I'm going to keep telling you that because I like you and you seem to have built something for yourself that you wouldn't want to lose being stubborn. 4 Likes |

Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by GAZZUZZ(m): 6:10am On Aug 25, 2018 |
radautoworks: Calm down....... Mama ![]() remanufactured crankshaft is a poorly manufactured crankshaft, then repaired abi? I have been "rebuilding" engines for clients before all this we can do it started... It is just an option when the engine is not far gone. A proper teardown and repair is more expensive than what you just painted, and sadly in my opinion client would have gotten a better deal with a low mileage replacement because 100per of the engine would be very low mileage while in the pic above 10-20per of engine will have new/ remanufactured parts. if you want to be transparent, give full details of what was/will be replaced at what cost. no one says don't rebuild, please do, but don't make it seem like you are the only ones replacing engine parts. |

This is Cartalk and we are here to learn about cars. engines are not designed to last forever, but with proper care engines will go over 300,000miles without any major engine work. the Toyota Corrola 2002- 2007 has an extremely sturdy build, I have seen them running at over 270,000miles on their original engines and on full synthetic oil without oil burn or engine rattles. Case study above is a toyota corrolla 2004, came into the country around 2011 @ 106,541miles clean bill of engine health judging by its service records in the USA. Let's say between 2011-2018 car covered 30,000miles every year, current mileage would be (7 x 30,000) plus 210,000miles. Ok let's say 20,000miles every year (7 x 20,000) plus 140,000miles So we can comfortably say current mileage of vehicle is about 106,541miles plus between 210,000 - 140,000miles. Let's just assume 250,000miles. Now the question is. What is best for the client? a proper full rebuild? Or a lowmileage under 36,000miles engine which is even much lower than the mileage of the car when it came into the country. Food for thought . Or a lowmileage under 36,000miles engine which is even much lower than the mileage of the car when it came into the country thanks computerglobal for the speedy Vin report as usual as I said, this is Cartalk, demeanors what do you think? Note the corrola will not receive a full rebuild, but certain faulty parts will be replaced. 1 Like 1 Share

Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by oluwaseunla(m): 7:43am On Aug 25, 2018 |
I've been following both sides, picking up a few lessons. I think there are no hard and fast rules. Each case should be treated on its own merit. Price of engines, availability of low mileage engines(which can be confirmed by the vin tags riveted on the engines at point of purchase), mileage of present engine, extent of damage of present engine are a few things to consider. Some engines are available for dirt cheap, it won't be worth the price of a rebuild. Irrespective of belief, there is very little that will likely go wrong in an engine that has done less than 10,000 miles being sold as used (Again, history of cars the used engine came from can be verified at point of purchase). Flip side, some engines are crazily expensive that a rebuild is a more viable option, if it can be done properly, like those crazy Korean vehicles when engine is more expensive than the used car. Everyman to his own, you people will likely never agree to the other person's point of view, because each process has been tested by each party to work well for them. Rebuild or replace? Ultimately a judgement call. 4 Likes 1 Share |
