Shatap.

I bought an item in the UK for 8.32 and paid a VAT of 1.67 giving a value of exactly 20%.

Taxation is not an unwelcome thing... But, taxation without reciprocate value in terms of infrastructure, economic growth, job creation, security, etc, is abhorrent and despicably criminal.

Next time, give better thought to your choice of examples. Thank you.

We all pay vat when we buy vatable goods by cash. So, what’s wrong with paying vat when we buy vatable goods online? If what you are buying is not excluded by the VAT act, you must pay vat irrespective of whether you’re buying online or paying cash directly.

In addition, FG needs to start imposing income tax on foreign social media platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. All revenues generated by these platforms from Nigeria should be fully subjected to Nigeria taxes.

We simply don't see what they do with the taxes.

People want development and keep making noise about how foriegn countries here but are not ready for what the foriegn countries do. Here in the US they task everything u buy, cash, online, debit machines anything. This is just an example of me trying to buy a tv worth over $1000. The tax is about $68 added to the original price of the tv which is 6% of the original cost.
You are talking of a country us where things work they make proper use of tax to develop and build the American dream unlike here where the government will embezzle the funds with nothing for the citizenry

No infrastructural growth would be obtained without a reciprocal growth in taxation.

All the bodies many of you bandy to buttress your point s suggest an increase in tax generation - World Bank, IMF, all suggest we do.

As soon as we do, you guys go into complain mode.

Now let me school you ..Before your salary is paid into your miserable account was PAYE ( personal income tax )not deducted before it lands in your account before you now decide to use that same salary to buy a service that's already VATTED online ?
u're only schooling urself blindly!!!

does everybody receive salary? There's also difference between PIT and PAYE, PAYE is just one on part of it, dummy.

Saying u wont pay VAT on transaction (online or offline) because u pay on form of tax is like saying u wont pay toll fee at lekki because u're under PAYE.

it has nothing to do with buhari, u schmuck!

Nothing to show for it at all levels. They keep borrowing, increasing taxes, recovering looted trillions, increasing pump prices... Still nothing to show for it.

I know Nigeria tax revenue is one of the lowest in d world at 6%, no country can develop with that tax rate, unless Arab oil rich nations with less population to cater for.

Our VAT is even a child's play compared to ghana and u people will shout to d heavens when one is instituted.

How can we even call ur govt to action when we don't pay tax?

Items online are meant to be cheaper as the overheads are much smaller.

Also, the goods come to you rather than you going to it and they can come almost anytime of the day you wish, at least in theory.
in reality ,its not true, items online in Nigeria are more expensive how did i know, i wanted to buy spray paint, i didnt have any idea where to buy in the market so i went to a popular online store ,#1450 was the cheapest i saw for white, minus delivery o. Three days after ,i went to the market and decided to ask around ,it was sold to me for #600. Went back to ask for black ,the same product online that was marked for #3000 per piece was sold for #700 . lets not forget in all this they have not added their delivery charge o. Now imagine the govt want to add 5% VAT, lol

I wouldn't be surprised if this includes card payments on the government Remita platform. Imagine paying tax to the government because you want to "pay" them.

The tax is based on online sales (purchase). you don't pay sales taxes on tax payments.

A government that can't give it's citizen basic electricity even when it is been paid for. Minimum wage is only $50 yet want to tax online transaction youth are using to escape the harsh reality called Nigeria.

A supporter of overtaxation

One of the BMC's spotted.

With all the taxes that the three tiers of government pile on businesses you support a new 5% tax on online transactions. How wicked

The current rate of business failure is the greatest it has ever been in our history.

Very obvious you are not a business owner. Probably a student being fed by his parents. Or a disgruntled employee.
