@mooseih

Stop spreading lies The indigenous people of North Africa were not "black". This your different "races" were put on different continents crap sounds like you are in the 15th century. Berbers have always been the indigenous people of North Africa They are as African as any other African anywhere on the continent. An Igbo man for example is not one inch more African than our Northern neighbours and they have the same right Nigerians or anyother to play in the Nations cup

First of all there is no such thing like "race". Those white Berbers in North Africa have a haplotype that is indigenous to the continent and is not European at all. Maybe in your mind if Morrocco is playing USA, Columbia or Brazil, Nigeria should support the countries with "black players" rather than an African country shocked shocked or even any country of their choice based their liking the teams style of play. Maybe 2010 African sports person should go to Reggie Bush or Kobe right?, 1998 best player to Cobi Jones rather than Mustapha Hadji?undecided. (this award was controversial in Nigeria similar to the one in 2004. I remember in Nigeria I NEVER heard anyone talk about race when listing the reasons why Okocha did not win)

You are probably a Westerner whose sense of identity only comes from Skin Color. An African's major sense of identity has nothing to do with skin color

Having the same color as somebody else does not mean you are brothers or that you are even more related to that "black" person than the white person. The African continent is testament to that. As for Arabs, yes they are Africans too, at least more African than the people who are trying to suggest they are not

Strong local league reflects in the Nations cup. Egypt where missing their stars and still won easy. Its a shame they are not in the world cup

@moosieh

you be fool, infact a complete slowpoke. You are probably a foreigner from the western hemisphere masquerading as a Nigerian. Its in the western hemisphere that you see foreigners making this dumb black=brother argument. You dont hear that type of crap in Nigeria. Just in case you dont know maybe you need to learn a few things

1. Africans dont differentiate based on "race". Any African country including the Northern ones have always been eligible to participate in the Nations cup.

2. Who told you all North African countries are Arab? You have no idea what you are talking about
"
3 If you are a westerner who is deluded into thinking you are African based on some skin color "brotherhood" well those North Africans are more African than you. They are just as African as Nigerians, Congolese etc and  a lot of them are indigenous to those areas of Africa.

4 In reality and biologically there is actually no "racial line" on the continent. Westerners  brought the idea of race to the continent. A sort of shared skin tone does not make one your brother. Sombody of a different skin tone might actually be mo
re of your brother

When Africans do things for themselves like the Nations Cup they include everybody in the continent. When Westerners come they diff based on perceived "racial lines" like MTV Subsaharan  and north Africa as middle east in MENA. The same goes with the news reporting although some are confused and include Morroco as African along with Nigeria, SA etc  but Egypt as middle East grin grin

Tudor, sounds like you're equating liberalism to [positive] change and progress. . . or am I not understanding you properly?

And I think she is right if she makes that comparison. Generally, Liberal and Progressive stands have helped shape issues in today's world for the better from Women's rights to Civil rights.

its absolutely false!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No such game between Naija and India

Most of the myths we believe in Naija are just plain ridiculous undecided

Its sad that some people still believe India-Naija 100 to 1 till today in 2010 in the internet age

Our people are extremely gullible and can be easily deceived by myths cry
Politics / Re: Senegal Offers Land To Haitians While Nigeria Has Offered Nothing by sage(m): 7:02am On Jan 19, 2010
I have to disagree with a lot of people here as it seems some people here are being overly sentimental

Everybody should do what they can to help victims of that tragedy but im against this "coming home" idea especially in the Nigerian context

We get enough ethnic wahala already. WE dont even know where our so-called Nigeria is heading and Nigeria already has ethnic/religious strife left and right. Lets learn to manage our diversity first before increasing our problems. If you moved a large number of Hatians to Naija I guarantee you people will see them as outsiders who are different and very soon wahala go start.

Its fine if Senegal wants to do that though. Na them sabi

Nigeria cant even help itself. There is no functioning government in the country to organize a relief effort.

What I dont understand is what are the richer African countries doing? Tunisia, Bostwana, Algeria, Egypt, Morrocco etc Siddon dey look?

The Chinese are making fools of us heh.

Mmmnn not again

Arabs, Whites, Asians now too

I guess its the White mans fault for this too. Poor us. We are helpless brainless victims. History keeps repeating itself and we refuse to learn embarassed cry.

stop looking to be a victim. You were born a freeman. Stop blaming strawmen for our self-inflicted woes

lets start another thread for this pls if we are going to continue
Politics / Re: Northwest Flight 253 Leg-bomber Is Son Of Dr.umaru Abdul Muttalab, by sage(m): 4:51am On Dec 28, 2009
all you did was to find a way to blame the west for Hutus killing Tutsis, Hausas for killing Igbos, South Africans for killing others etc. (I dont actually know what Aparthied has to do with them setting people on fire)

I didnt know we were children who go around and kill each other because we were made to do it. Poor us, victims of Westerners, Arabs and everybody. When are we going to be able to make Westerners kill each other because we want them to? Never? tongue tongue

Its funny how you glossed over the Chinese and used the Marshall plan as an excuse now that the theory of slave labour fell flat.

Who today enslaves others and stll actively practice slavery? Drum rolls: Africans shocked cool

Is there anybody today practicing Jim Crow, Segregation etc? Why keep whining abut straw men and skipping the main reason why we are a backwards set of people

ITS OUR FAULT. COMPLETELY OUR FAULT.

We better learn from Asians who overcame foreign meddling and are leading the world today. Its sad that countries like Vietnam are far ahead of us now. Dont start me with Malaysia, Singapore etc

The day the average African country becomes like  shocked shockedVietnam shocked shocked is the day everybody will stop insulting us. Till then,

Politics / Re: Northwest Flight 253 Leg-bomber Is Son Of Dr.umaru Abdul Muttalab, by sage(m): 2:36am On Dec 28, 2009
@caps28

Our problem is fully internal. Others exploit you as much as you let yourself to be exploited

And you seem to have imbibed an anti-white sentiment. That kind of sentiment is not going to help African nations develop. Its pointless and useless. The world has never been kind to weak and docile people. History shows us that any set of weak people are usually dealt with very decisively if they do not catch up with the rest of the world. Arabs and Europeans have dealt with us and the asians might next if we dont wake up.

South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore even the China that calls the shots in the world today and Japan experienced colonial or foreign oppression.

Switzerland, Norway, Finland etc and a lot of Western countries developed without the help of Slave Labor or colonies. (This slave labour argument is very weak considering that the biggest slave traders like Spain and Portugal are among the least developed Western European countries when compared to countries like Norway, Finland, Iceland and Germany who had very little to do with slave labour)

Go and read up how colonialists wanted to wipe the Chinese out. How many times do you see them complain today about the suppression they went through? How many times do Malaysians blame colonialism?
These people found internal solutions to counter the designs of the west and have taken a leap into the 21st century

WE are only to blame for our current predicament

The fact that countries like Vietnam, I repeat Vietnam is better than 95% of African countries says it all shocked shocked

Africans were the biggest slave traders in history and have not shown any more humanity towards fellow Africans but infact display more inhumanity than the westerners

1. Where in human history have 1,000,000 Africans been killed by foreigners in 100 days in a very small area? (like Hutu & Tutsi)

2. Where in 2008 did 62 Africans get killed as immigrants in western countries by westerners? (aka South Africa 2008)

3. Over 10,000 people have been killed by machetes and cutlasses in Nigeria in the last 9 years. Where in the world has Westerners killed 10,000 Nigerians in the past 9yrs?

Weak minded people look for excuses and are permanent victims. Human history points to the fact that weak and docile people regardless of "race" or color have been exploited, subjugated and in some cases wiped out.

We better borrow a leaf from the Asians who survived attempts to wipe them out as well as colonialism and exploitation and are leading the world today by looking inward rather than blaming people

The answers are internal for Nigeria and the rest of Africa
Politics / Re: Northwest Flight 253 Leg-bomber Is Son Of Dr.umaru Abdul Muttalab, by sage(m): 12:11am On Dec 28, 2009
@GL

I agree with you on the diversity thing. If our problem was one or the other we could overcome it much more easily. Ethnicity and Religion is a volatile mix, esp when you add diff Languages, customs, traditions etc into the mix though I dont think the actions of a few individuals should be used against a whole group of people.

@cap28

With regards to the Western media being manipulative, I agree with you on that. Some of them have agendas so the average guy should not take it all without caution
Politics / Re: Northwest Flight 253 Leg-bomber Is Son Of Dr.umaru Abdul Muttalab, by sage(m): 11:53pm On Dec 27, 2009
@caps28

not to deviate from the topic at hand, but can you pls stop with this victimhood crap. Slave this slave that angry. Africans are the biggest excuse makers in the history of mankind. Weak minded as hell and only complain and blame others for our misfortune and incompetencies. Its the same reason that Arabs enslaved us by the tens of millions for thousands of years and the same reason the Europeans repeated and exercerbated the trade.

All we do is whinge left and right. Poor us we are always victims, everybody is taking advantage of us, mistreating us, oppressing us bla bla bla rather than realizing that our problem is fully internal

We keep attributing the success of Western Nations to slavery. Maybe if not for slavery and slave labour Norway, Finland and Germany will  be worse than Nigeria tongue tongue . Maybe Asian countries like Japan, Malaysia and Korea will be like Congo DRC

While we keep making excuses even Vietnam shocked shocked is now better than 95% of African countries shocked shocked

But since we have been pronounced the World's permanent victim lets keep whining cry.

sometimes I wonder what the mods on Nairaland are for?? A lot of offensive topics and once that could devolve into offensive ridicule are left unattended. In a good forum the mods shut down stupid topics and delete it undecided

A lot of Nigerians in the west bring up topics that actually have very little relevance to the country and in the wrong sections too angry angry

Topics like marrying outside your "race", finding the meaning of your "blackness" etc are irrelevant in the Nigerian context  and other topics that are a lot more offensive topics about foreigners and ethnicities in Naija should have been locked and deleted

Politics / Re: Scrap 36 States Now —anyaoku by sage(m): 11:49pm On Nov 30, 2009
This will be the best model for the country

De-centralize the govt and develop a max 3-6 regions. Strong regions that can float infrastructural bonds if neccesary

For those who are saying that 36 states are not the problem, Nigeria spends almost 50% of her budget on paying salaries to numerous thieves in power. I mean legal salaries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not corruption

Nigeria will never develop with 36 states or make any progress at all. You can mark it anywhere. Its a waste of time to discuss the possibility of progress in Nigeria with the current system. The 36 state system has to go first.

Democracy in Nigeria is nonsense if we spend almost half of our budget (like 1.3 trillion) in paying the legal salaries of office holders.

We are wasting our time contemplating the possibility of Nigeria ever getting better under that system
