Religion / Re: My Thoughts And Questions About Religion by seneca(m): 4:18am On Mar 01, 2017
Joseph, you are lifting someone's posts on Facebook. The least you could do is to acknowledge them. If not, you are guilty of intellectual theft. Or are you too lazy to think up original ideas?

joseph1013:
Never judge a book by its cover. Even if the cover has "Holy" written on it, still do not judge it by its cover.

Read every book with a healthy skepticism and and an open mind. No book is infallible.

Question every book and let every word in every book prove its own merit. Merit and veracity are not automatically assigned by what is written on a book's cover. They are earned after every word in a book has been thoroughly examined.

Religion / Re: My Thoughts And Questions About Religion by seneca(m): 4:06am On Mar 01, 2017
Joseph, have you heard the term plagiarism before?
joseph1013:
HINTS FOR CHRISTIANS

1. Stop praying for your enemies to die. You're not Boko Haram, ISIS or a psychopath. Your "enemies" are often your spouse, you parents, your siblings, your family, your friends, your neighbours, your co workers, your country men... If they all die, who will be left to cope with you?

2. Stop judging people. It's petty. You're a sinner too in somebody else's religious worldview. You eat pork, don't you? To a Muslim, you are a sinner. He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone.

3. Stop praying for unmerited favour. It is fraudulent. Ensure that you merit every favour you pray for. If your son studies well and another child who never studies does better than he in class every time because the teacher is always rigging the results, how would you feel? "Unmerited favour" is a huge part of the reason why our country is corrupt, inefficient and backward. Merit your favour.

4. Do not protect shady practices because your pastor is involved. Let everyone be accountable to everyone. Let husbands and wives be accountable to each other on how family resources are utilized. Let political and religious leaders be accountable to those whom they lead. There is nothing wrong with being anointed. But there is a problem if an anointed is shouting "touch not my anointed" when told to be accountable.

5. Stop disturbing people's sleep with loud speakers. If they are interested in your message, they will look for your church. That they are sleeping at home means sleep is their priority at the moment.

6. Stop scaring people with hell fire. If your message is true and inspiring, you don't have to bring drama and ojuju calabar into it. A beautiful message is beautiful in and of itself. No need for fear and threats. Telling people they will burn in hell is not a message of love. It is a message of terror. It nauseates many people.

7. Stop disturbing people in buses in the name of bus evangelism. Imagine if Muslims start shouting Allahu Akbar with megaphones and Sango worshippers are shouting eriwooo ya! all at the same time in the same bus? Allow people to enjoy the peace they paid for. Allow the driver to concentrate.

8. It is possible for people to be good, decent and hard working citizens without being Christians. Judge people by their characters. Not by their religions or denominations.

9. People don't become Bill Gates or Dangote by typing Amen on Facebook and WhatsApp. They get educated, learn a trade, excel at their jobs and invest. Prosperity is not just for Christians. It's for every citizen who works hard and works smart.

10. People don't get smart by reading just one book. They read plenty books. Plenty. When you're asked your opinion about the world, quote from different books. Not just one book. That's why you didn't do CRK alone in secondary school. Quote the appropriate book for the appropriate question.
Religion / Re: Slaps Giving! By Bishop David Oyedepo by seneca(m): 9:17pm On Dec 18, 2011
This is what I wrote to Guardian newspaper. I hope they publish it.

A CLEAR CASE OF HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE

Dear Editor,
I am sure most Nigerians would have seen the most outrageous video on the internet in recent times: Bishop Oyedepo’s “slapping out the devil method of deliverance”.  I wasn’t there when it happened but I saw the video and viewed it three times to be sure I saw what I saw. Bishop Oyedepo actually slapped a girl during the act of deliverance at a crusade. He asked the girl if she was a witch and the girl innocently chimed “I’m a witch for Jesus”. In a moment of grandeur, the flamboyant Bishop slapped the girl suddenly, to the shock of other officiating pastors. The video showed that the other members of the pastor’s crew were momentarily taken aback. The bishop then went ahead to dub the girl “a foul devil” who was not fit for deliverance and should therefore proceed to the pit of hell where she belonged!

My initial reaction was disbelief and then a violent anger. Who the hell is Bishop Oyedepo to say who will and who will not go to hell? Nigerians are generally a bunch of gullible people when it gets to religion and many so called men of God have enslaved Nigerians under the heavy burden of religion.  The girl in question most likely would be a house girl who had committed some childhood offence which most of us adult were guilty of in our youth, and madam, a religious bigot would have taken the hapless girl to the bishop for deliverance because only a witch could have done what the girl did.  Praying for someone to be delivered of whatever devil we have managed to manufacture for ourselves is one thing, assaulting a human being on national television is another. Only God knows the sort of atrocities the man of God would be committing in his private chamber of power where he alone knows the unfathomable mind of the Almighty.

It is my submission that all human rights activists in Nigeria should rise against bishop Oyedepo and take him to court, and if found guilty of this human rights abuse, should be punished to the full extent of the law, man of God or no man of God. It is people like bishop Oyedepo that give Nigeria a bad image abroad.  There are many issues of national importance that are yet to be tackled and the best our religious leaders can do is to blame it on the devil by assaulting innocent little ones on  ludicrous charges of witchcraft. It is high time Nigerians left this Stone Age culture of mindless religious practices, paranoia and boundless capacity for self deception. Religion encourages a belief in a Higher Being, love of God and man, respect for and tolerance of one another and hope of somewhere better than this plane after a weary existence on earth. The moment religion degenerates to the level of human rights abuse practitioners of such acts in the name of religion should be apprehended and thrown into jail without much ceremony.

Thank you soo much! I am more than flattered. Is that eye on your profile urs? It is one of the sweetest, cleanest and clearest eyes i've seen around. Reminds me of the Yoruba saying: Oju ni imole ara! (The eye is the light of the body!).  smiley

Romance / Re: Are Virgins Still Respected? by seneca(m): 10:25pm On Feb 13, 2007
I used to know a colleague at work who has never had either a boyfriend or sex! You'll say good girl won't you? Hold it right there! The kinds of things this chic said on a daily basis was enough to make The Madonna herself blush! In her case she still remains a virgin not because of any moral or religious consideration; she's technically a virgin (intact hymen) because she couldn't find anyone that would overlook her mouth and focus on the koko downstairs.
Such a girl can't start parading herself as something out of the ordinary: a virgin!
The concept of virginity in contemporary African and modern religious philosophy is about purity of body and soul. i as a person am not too particular about the state of the hymen; its about the person-body, mind and spirit. We live in a society full of hypocrites. We expect the men to be experienced and the women to be virgins. I suppose the men can get some experience by sleeping with goats and baboons!
To those who are truly virgins in body and in mind-kudos; to the technical virgins with intact hymens and minds lusting after the loins of men and waiting for the opportune moment- purify thy souls, to those whose hymens have been breached, but whose minds are alive and pure, my deepest respect-all is not lost. To those whose minds and hymens have been reduced to tattered rags, may God forgive all of you o!  grin
Back to the guys - Lets encourage the true virgins by remembering to Zip up both our pants and our mouths when it matters most!
Romance / Re: How To Get A Man to Kiss You? by seneca(m): 10:29pm On Feb 12, 2007
There are a lot of hypotheses on how to get this kiss. For once i think everyone should stop hypothesising and GET the f*****g kiss.
What's so fantastic about a girl asking a guy for a kiss? Look, sweetheart, if you really need this kiss go ahead and tell him. Trust me, most Naija guys love awuuf, wether e dey run belle or not. However, be prepared not to feel bad if he says no. And, even if he says no, so f*****g what? Afterall you are not asking him to sleep with you! There was this former classmate of mine who used to play the masculine role in relationships: she liked you she slept with you. she got tired of you, she kicked your butt out. I am not proud of her but i think this was one girl who knew what she wanted and she would do anything to get it, no matter what the rest of us who claim to be sane say.
So girl, what's it gonna be?
Fashion / Re: Bra Or Undie: Which Comes First? by seneca(m): 12:10am On Feb 12, 2007
I think its natural to wear your pants undies first.  Your vagina has always been there so you have always worn pants.  Breasts came later some 13 or so years later or in my case 15 years later now they are huge!

pants all the way!
@LadyT
That is the coolest logic i've ever heard in my entire short life. The only snag though is that i don't believe your boobs are huge. If you get "proof" for us on nairaland, we would love to see o! Prefarably the em , em, kini itself, you know grin
Fashion / Re: Bra Or Undie: Which Comes First? by seneca(m): 11:58pm On Feb 11, 2007
All of una wey dey post replies here no get work o! Jesus! why the words pata and coste dey get people worked up? Oya all the guys, get out of here! And the ladies, don't you all have boyfriends to breastfeed and babies to cook for? Oh sorry, its the other way round(too late to correct; i'm in a hurry here!) I don close my eyes o! 1!,  2!, 3!, , angry
Religion / Re: Evolution Or Creation: Which Do You Believe? by seneca(m): 7:16pm On Feb 11, 2007
EVOLUTION is the footprint of the path of taken by CREATION

Stranger12, well done. That's a true statement to a certain extent.

i have not read everybody's posts. They are just too many and too varied.

Anyway, science and religion are never in opposition. Faith explains science and science explains faith.
History has proven consistently that even men of God with the best of intentions could be narrow minded.
When Galileo first proposed a sun-centered solar system, the church leaders of the time persecuted him. Today we all know the earth revolves round the sun.
So those who misinterpret the Bible should be careful. The chap who wrote Genesis did not say he was writing a scientific expose. He was just trying to give an allegorical picture of the fact that God in his infinite wisdom created the world. If you go swallow Genesis raw, you 'd be forced to tell me where cain got a wife, considering the fact that there was no other human population around at the time. The world as we know it today is several billion years old. going by biblical accounts, the world is 6000 years old. Its in an attempt to cover the time inconsistencies that the writers of the bible ascribe unbelievable longevity to biblical figures.
i am a firm believer in a God-centered evolution. God created the world. How he chose to do it is nobody's business. If he decided that he would create an atom of hydrogen first, then add hydrogen atoms to create other elements, then move on to other complex substances till he got to DNA, an then to unicellular organisms up to primates, he had a right to; afterall he is God. He could then decide that a particular species of apes could be moulded in his image--this image does not have to be in body, most likely in the soul. He could then breathe his spirit in man and bring him to a fuller understanding of His love.
As it has been said before, evolution theory is just that - a theory. It's not fact. It only seeks to explain using the mammoth evidence before it.
God's revelation to man is not yet complete. He reveals himself to us even today and at all times. We must not allow prejudice to colour our vision in the pursuit of truth through religion and science.
Louis pasteur said when he bent at his microscope, he was at prayer. Gregor Mendel of Genetics fame was an Austrian monk.
Science and religion complement each other. So no more arguments here, okay?

@Echidime

Here in Cameroun 95% of ladies don't wear either bra or pants, they show their things as if they are animal, and men go about their business with their eyes closed, only seeing GOd with their Heart and not you naked girls.

Yea right!
