I know someone coming for an internship with them here in London by June. She was apparently contacted last minute and she's worked in the UK before with a similar institution.

Hi people, I posted this topic weeks ago to inform people about this event. I chose not to respond to those who called it a scam and I'm glad the selected applicants proved them wrong. It was quite simple, just an application with no one asking for money. The address sent to you was that of a popular hotel venue, a public place. It's good to be cautious I agree, but it's not difficult to pick out something fictitious.

I know people who are out of the country working for a similar organisation because they seized the opportunities that came their way. I hope those who applied found it beneficial and networked with the staff and recruiters of the organisation to improve their prospects of getting a job. I wish you all the best in your future pursuits. God bless.

Concerning answers to delays in implementing the glo-1 project, here's a piece dat contains excuses from the COO, Jameel, It's also interesting to know dat glo-2 is also in the cooler which will connect South Africa through Angola, So let's start milking South Africa back just as dey milk us through DSTV, MTN, MWeb and so on, wink

http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=153809

Below are the excuses from http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=153634 cheesy

History will be made in the Nigerian telecommunication industry today as Glo 1, the world's first submarine optic fibre cable to be built by a single individual company, lands in Lagos.
The 9,800km long cable which stretched from the UK across all the West African countries, will be anchored to its Landing Station at Alpha Beach, Lagos, this morning.
The trend in the global telecommunication industry is for a consortium of companies or even nations to combine resources to build submarine cables as was the case with the SAT submarine 3 cable which was built by a consortium of 36 countries.
The Group Chief Operating Officer, Globacom Limited, Jameel Mohammed said Glo 1 would deliver transmission capacity that would radically change Nigeria and West Africa's economic landscape by linking 17 countries to the rest of the world.
Jameel said the landing of Glo-1 was another milestone in the history of Nigeria’s communications industry, adding that the cable would provide unprecedented high speed internet services and make telecom services much faster, more reliable and cheaper for consumers.

Explaining the seeming delay in Glo-1’s arrival, the Globacom GCOO said that implementing submarine cable projects, particularly one spanning about 10,000 km from London to Lagos is an initiative that usually takes between two to two and a half years to complete.
Furthermore, he said that because the cable passed through various territorial waters and jurisdictions of several African countries, Globacom had to contend with lengthy approval processes.
“We needed permissions at many levels from all those countries to pass the cable through their territorial waters. We needed approval from security agencies, approvals from oil companies and from various bodies”, he said.He said Glo-1's current and upgradable capacity is enough to provide whatever broadband capacity Nigerians require for the next 15 to 20 years at the minimum projections. He disclosed that the telecoms giant had factored Nigeria's long term bandwidth requirements into the equation, adding that Glo 1 "can carry
voice traffic of all operators internationally. We can also provide IPLC (International Private Leased Circuit) for corporates”.

He said high quality work was done in deeply burying the underseacable in such a way that there would be little or no chance of disruptions.Glo 1 which also has a dedicated link to the U.S, will revolutionise the provision of telecoms services in West Africa with its quality, speed, reliability and affordability for individuals and corporate organisations.Jameel said the submarine optic fibre cable will also support applications like teleconferencing, distance learning, disaster recovery and telemedicine among several other benefits for Nigerians and the people of West Africa.

You can only enjoy the service with fast bandwith, otherwise, you might prefer to use them separately. People abroad and a few in Naija with fast internet speed will enjoy the service.

Politics / Re: Tinubu Charged For Operating 16 Foreign Accounts. by toksdara(m): 4:14pm On Apr 28, 2007
I only pity those who voted in Fasola to come and cover his bosses track and probably do his own big time chopping. I wonder when Nigerians would start thinking. They saw Jimi Agbaje, yet they chose Fashola or Obanikoro. Most of the times, I wonder whether really the saying that "The voice of the people is the voice of God" still works for our generation.
Phones / Re: Formatting A SIM Card by toksdara(m): 1:19pm On Apr 25, 2007
All this formatting SIM stuff sounds stupid. Once you format a SIM, you can't use it anymore. That is your line, messages (d ones stored in the SIM) and contacts in the fone will be gone,

A SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) is simply a small storage device meant to hold a limited number of messages, contacts, value added menu (e.g. Magic Plus, MTN Business Services) and all the encriptions with which you can be identified by your network to allow access to the Network (e.g. MSSDN or ur fone line number and so on). Once you format a SIM, (I'm not sure dat's possible), you lose the encriptions of the network and u can't use the SIM again, unless you go to the network to REVIVE THE SIM which I doubt they'll do, they rather give you a SWAP SIM.

Concerning the GPRS prob, it's likely one of these conditions

1. Ur fone is not WAP/MMS enabled
2. Ur fone is WAP/MMS enabled but it is CSD/GSM based connection, instead of GPRS
3. Ur fone is GPRS based, but the Network has not activated GPRS for ur line
4. GPRS has been activated by your network but settings have not been sent automatically
5. Settings have been sent but your fone can't save them automatically
6. The settings have been set manually but have been set wrongly
7. The settings are correctly set in, but it has not been activated as your default connection profile
8. The profile is correctly set buy your area doesn't have GPRS (depending on ur Network)
9. The network is currently having problems relating to browsing
10. Ur fone has a factory error

Foot notes
SIM - Subscriber Identification Module
GPRS - General Packet Radio Service
WAP - Wireless Application Protocol
MMS - Multimedia Messaging Service
CSD/GSM - Circuit Switched Data/Global System for Mobile Communication (More like dial up connection, it's expensive compared to GPRS and only Celtel has it)

Chao!

TV/Movies / Re: Link 65: New TV Station In Lagos by toksdara(m): 12:36pm On Apr 15, 2007
LINK 65 somehow changed their name to GOTEL. Which name sounds cooler or better? I prefer LINK 65 anyway.

I heard NBC shut down the station probably for broadcasting a political jingle when all stations were instructed to stop 24hrs to elections.
Politics / Re: Jimi Agbaje's Picture Was Omitted On Ballot Papers by toksdara(m): 12:11pm On Apr 15, 2007
Yesterday on Channels TV News at 10, a lady (likely to be old and/or illiterate was asking to be directed to Femi Pedro's LP (Labour Party) column but her thumb was directed to AC (Fashola's Party). This was a very brief clip on Channels TV just before they returned to the news anchor and only those who paid close attention could have noticed this deceit.

This was POSSIBLE with Femi Pedro's Pix, not to talk of JIMI AGBAJE or UCHE IBUKUN OHIMAI whose pictures where omitted. At my polling station, people where asking me JIMI's party, because they didn't know it and hoped to use his picture as a way of identification. The parties people know are AC, PDP, maybe ANPP and OTHERS. So not putting JIMI'S picture was DEFINITELY DELIBERATE. If either Fashola's picture or Koro's were omitted, it would have been better since their parties are known.

IWU is messed up.

Phones / Re: Celtel Slashes Tariffs: Now The Cheapest! by toksdara(m): 12:30pm On Mar 30, 2007
CELTELS UNITY TARIFF IS DECEPTIVE!

With the new simply smooth, simply smart and simply special, it's all rubbish. Why 100 Naira for migration when it was free for the initial migration of Glo and MTN. I stand to be corrected!

Calls to other within the network ought to be cheaper than to other networks or operators. That's the way it is done all over the world. You can check websites of Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orascom, O2 and Orange

This is because, all calls within the network is at NO COST AT ALL to the network since it is within. It's calls to other networks that is a COST to them. This is because of the INTERCONNECT RATES attached when a network terminates on another network.

Hence, if network operators don't charge at all for INTRA NETWORK CALLS, it's at no cost to them. That explains why Glo and MTN where able to give free MIDNIGHT ON-NET calls because it was it didn't have INTERCONNECT RATES attached to that. That also explains easier ON-NET text messages (e.g. Glo2glo and so on).

So overall, CELTEL's call rates are higher than those of other networks when it look at it statistically. Check the call rates of Celtel, Glo and MTN on each of their websites compair them with an analytical, statistical and mathematical mind to see Celtel is the most expensive! Besides, for now, CELTEL has the smallest suscriber group of the 3 of about 7 million people with GLO and MTN having over 12 million and 14 million people respectively!

Is it true that the minimum transaction which one can make with Celtel's Me2u is 1000 Naira? Glo started it all with 'Glo Me2u'. Later, MTN changed d name to 'MTN Sell and Share'. Celtel simply came out with Celtel's Me2u.

Please respond or educate me! Remember, I stand to be corrected! Thanks!
