Religion / Re: When Does A Religious Writing Become Scripture by Xvalier: 7:50pm On Aug 17, 2013
@Post, Chukwudi44
The question to ask should have been 'when did a piece of writing qualify to be scriptures' and not 'when does........'
This is because the Canon is closed, no more can be added to it again after the death of John circa AD 90, when he wrote The book of Revelation.

Eph 2: 20 says we are being built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets........ Since physically witnessed Christs resurrection, they handled Him, they were eye witness
Of His majesty, therefore only them can make known to us , and Peter says their message is 'more sure'....... (2Pet 1:19), he was aware he was writing scripture.

God the Holy Spirit so supernaturally directed the human writers of scriptures, that without waving their human intelligence, vocabulary, individuality, literally style, personality, personal feelings, or any other human factor, His complete and coherent message to mankind was recorded with perfect accuracy in the original languages of scripture, the ver words bearing the authority of divine authorship. (2nd Pet 1: 20 - 21)

Only the Apostles who saw and witnessed Christs resurrection could write scriptures, all other close associates of the apostles or those who learned under the apostles may have their own writings, but such cannot be called scriptures as those inspired through the apostles

The canon of scripture is closed, no more addition.

@Solidbroda, You actually need to be scared with your new found discovery,
Since; (1) You must now think you are master of yourself and purpose

(2) You must now think man is nothing more than a body mass without soul/spirit

(3) You must now think the creation of the earth, it's vase solar system and powerful
architecture of the design of the human anatomy and body came about by Evolution

(4) You must now think that your life does not have a start and end time determined by God

Religion / Re: Pastor Sam Adeyemi Comes Out Powerfully On Tithing by Xvalier: 1:34am On Aug 10, 2013
Actually I am yet to hear any pastor teach on tithe. Yes they love the application in Malachi but that is not a teaching on Tithe, just a warning from Malachi to the Jews.

Tithing is taught mainly in The book of Levicticus and Numbers, in which you see that :

(1) No correlation exists between the One tenth that Abraham paid to Melchizedek and the tithe demanded by The Mosaic Law

(2) The scripture depicts 3 types of tithing, so you in the Church Age would have to ask which one of the three types you are paying

God commanded Israel to bring tithes (Lev. 27:30–34), a form of national taxation. The word “tithe” means “a tenth.” Old Testament tithes
were levied upon Jewish believers and unbelievers alike. The amount was ten percent of what one owned or received for one’s labors.
There were several tithes: a tax for the maintenance of the Levites(Num. 18:21, 24); a tax for the national feasts and sacrifices (Deut.14:22–27);
and a tax every third year used for the poor and destitute of the land (Deut. 14:28–29). Three taxes or three tithes!

Politics / Re: Boko Haram Suspected Financier Executed - Which Way Nigeria by Xvalier: 8:10pm On Aug 01, 2009
Hello all,

I reside and work in Maiduguri.

Let no mistake be made, Mohammed Yussuf is dead, no cover up what so ever, all to the excitement and rejoicing of the people of Borno state. Where I do agree that he probably ought to have been given a lawyer, (who will defend him, and allow public sentiments from our Muslim brothers to come in, and finally asked to be released and go scot free (like what happened once before) and in another, say 3-4 years, he will regroup, and give us a combined Taliban/Osama style attack and kill us all in Borno state) we certainly welcome the swift execution he had (if that is what he got). If the Nigerian Soldiers had made the mistake of keeping alive here in Maiduguri that night, I can assure, more of his men will come in from Somalia, Chad and Niger to attempt to release him.

He is not new in our midst here, everyone is usually scared of his teachings and his members around Railway where he stays. You dare not wear Jeans (considered western) around them, he even taught that people should not use fork and knives that this was also wertern. I know people with degree certificates who are his members that destroyed their papers because they claimed it was unIslamic. If they lived their lives to themselves as they did in the last 4 years or more, no qualms, but to attempt to take over a state government so as to introduce Sharia is a complete disrespect of our constitution. as big as the Biafran soldiers were, in size and weaponry, the Nigerian government fought them to stand still. Then their babaric acts of killing, by slaughtering the throats of the soldiers/police was disgusting. I thank God that main stream Islam here in Borno state preach and practise peace always, the Kanuris are friendly hosts anyday, they respect your religion and expect you to respect theirs. They strongly condemned Yussuf's acts, and are happy for this end.

Someone mentioned proof of his atrocities, that he should be given some benefit of doubt. I ask you to come hear and see the proofs you require, dead bodies littering the streets, the stench oozing out from swollen bodies, come to his house, its a complete armoury, he even had a full medical team and facility for treating his wounded soldiers. About 4 days before the sunday evening that his mayhem started, he had boasted that he will perform this very act. The government were slow to respond, Intelligence gathering had their facts, but necessary Angencies were sloppy about acting, just like what happened in the inter-religious crisis of February 2006 here in Maiduguri also.

All I am saying is this: If after being caught in police custody, they were intending to take him to Abuja for trial, we the people, would have stormed the police cell to kill him ourselves.

No apologies if I sound babaric, you should come see the desruption of lives and properties here.

ttalks, you have said it all. You have correctly exegeted from scriptures the true meaning of that verse within the context of what The Spirit is teaching. Most people quote out of context and therefore misapply scripture.

Kindly note that for every scripture or doctrine taught in the Bible, there is only one (1) interpretation, however, many application. So a believer must properly Interprete as you have done, then apply.
Religion / Re: The Role Of Church Leaders by Xvalier: 1:14am On Jul 22, 2009
Hello all,

First of all, there are 3 categories of sin taught in the Bible.

(1) Mental Attitude sins:
Jesus taught that a man who looks at a woman with lust commits adultery, all those evil thoughts you think (even without physically executing are sin)
(2) Verbal sins:
These includes lying, maligning,abuse, etc
(3) Overt sins:
stealing, fornication, adultery etc

Unfortunately, most christian get so self righteous because they either do not know or forget that both Mental attitude and verbal sins are part of sining. we often concentrate on other people's overt sin. Pro 6:16 - 19 even show us that Mental attitude sins and Verbal sins are as grievious as Overt sin. Little wonder though, since for there to exist overt sins, there must first have been mental attitude sining, this is what James was teaching in 1:14 - 15.

For whichever category of sin that exists with a believer, he/she has an advocate in Christ Jesus (1Jn 2:1), he/she should cite/name/confess his/her sin to God, (1Jn 1:9) and his/her fellowship is restored back with God. This is Grace.

As the believer in Christ continues to mature, he/she will let go of old sins, probably modify some, and probably will acquire new ones, but as maturity takes place, you sin less and less, but never acquire sinless perfection on earth until our mortal body is changed. You cannot compare a new babe in Christ withn a mature believer. The command in Gal 5:16 to 'walk by means of the spirit' is a command to mature to grow up (as Peter said in 2Pet 3:18), since the flesh sets its desires against the Spirit.

May The Spirit of God enlighten us more. Amen

Hello Akeredolu,

This is a lovely piece. I must give you kudos for the write up.

Your perception to life is quite fascinating, your world is all about your 5 physical senses, what you see, hear, touch, taste and smell,
You certainly do not entertain anytime for God, heaven and earth and all that, infact, from what you wrote, you are the master of your own destiny. You mentioned that you are not afraid of demons , witches, etc, just curious though,
(1) what things are you afraid of, have you conquered your fears, do you fear nothing now?

(2)  What is your view to life after death, what has the physical senses taught you on that, (oh yeah I remember,, you suspend judgement, )

(3)  Do you believe there is a creator who created you, heaven and earth?

(4) Your sense of right and wrong, where does it originate from, is from the Nigerian law, or the Nigerian Police?)

I respect your perception to life , RATIONALISM, but another means of perception exists called FAITH. It is true that certain people get frightened at the mention of demons, spirits and all that, they have not been taught well. I employ you to believe that a God exist, do not wait till you die to locate the geographical location of this imaginary lake of fire. It is real.

Cheers man.

Religion / Re: Who Did Abraham Nearly Sacrifice: Ishmael Or Isaac? by Xvalier: 3:09am On Apr 20, 2008
Hello all/Olabowale

I must say how I enjoy reading Olabowale’s write-ups, compared to other Great ones, you see his approach and maturity in dealing with issues even though highly misinformed, and not oriented to Truth, he takes his time to show and state the position of the Koran.

However I see the Biblical concept on Trinity is a bit of a hard nut for the Great ones to chew, and I have noticed how the issue of numerous writers of the Bible seem to create a stumbling block to them also.

To all Great ones, unlike the ‘claimed’ inspiration that only your Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) received (to unilaterally write out the entire Koran), it is not so with the Bible. The writers of the Bible, the different men were all moved by God to write out the content of the plan of God for man. The coalesce of all the write ups of the Bible can only be that it is truly divine as no disparity exists in their messages. Can you imagine 66 books from several men of the Bible all saying the same thing, attesting to the same person? A seamless continuity exists between the Old and New Testament; we have one echoing the other. All these number of writers all arriving at the same truth.

I wonder how The Great ones can be sure that Mohammed (PBUH) really did not plagiarize the Bible (kindly note, I am not saying he did), but objectively speaking, if you were not a Great one, would you not think that he did.
No one else but him only saw this vision of his, there was no one to collaborate this sayings, maybe he was hallucinating when he said he saw an Angel. The record of only one man must be taken with heavy scrutiny and subject to intense Laboratory test to ascertain it’s varacity, particularly, when as even the Koran says, where no witnesses exists.

Very Unlike the Inspired pages of the scripture where men from different generation all spoke concerning the same person, the same truth. Not only that, a lot of the things predicted have either been fulfilled or are all falling into place now and the coming future.

The words of Paul in scripture are as authentic as the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, because these words all originate from God. The Lord knowing this day will come told us already that “ no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will……”

Concerning the Trinity, The Great ones saying that it was not known in the Old Testament is untrue.

Just to mention a few things to you, I am sure you can verify it yourself, but in the Biblical account of creation in Genesis, the word translated ‘God’ in Genesis 1:1 is the Hebrew word Elohim, (as in Elohim created the heavens and the earth)This word is a uniplural word that should be translated the The ‘Gods’ created the heavens and the earth. The Hebrew word ‘Elohim’ is a Uniplural word. All three members of the GodHead were involved in creation. The Father conceived the plan; The Son accomplished creation (John 1: 1-3; Col. 1:16; Heb 1:2); and the Holy Spirit restored creation (Gen 1:2).
Another scripture of the old testament that attests to the plurality of God is found in Isaiah 48:16.

It is very true that the oneness of the Godhead was in focus in the Old Testament (ie His Essence) but in the Church Age which we now leave in, their individuality is now emphasized, because the church Age believer is united with Jesus Christ forever. Let me spare you doctrinal truths as you most certainly cannot bear nor understand them.

Jesus keeps on being The Way, The Truth and The Life.

Thank you.

Religion / Re: Muhammed And The Iddah Rule For Widows by Xvalier: 5:14am On Apr 18, 2008
All I know about Islam has been from this forum, I have many friends who are muslims but I have never discussed religion with them. I stay in the Northern part of Nigeria where serious segregation of the christian is an everyday and very real occurence. I recal even last year, I wanted to pay for an early hour slot on the only radio station here, so as to play early morning gospels and a short exaltation for those going to work. I was shocked when the Programs director told me point blank that it is forbiden to call 'Jesus' on air. He told me it is not permitted. For a second, I wondered if I was in Iran or Pakistan.

I want to use this medium to thank you all for enlightning me on Islam, if all I have read about Mohammed (SAW) concerning his sex life is true, and it does seem true, as I have followed every link and read widely on every issue posted on him, then, with all due respect to the 'great ones', this man you are copying, had a serious deeply rooted sickly, uncontrolled and perverted sexual nature, he abused his position, covered his sexual conduct under religion, promogated marrying more than one wife because of this, lusted after his adopted son's wife, married a 9 year old girl who was still playing with her toys, could not even keep to 3 wives due to his unbridled libido, and had the effrontery to use Allah's name to cover up his atrocities. Honestly speaking, apart from the vision he claimed he had, i know a lot more muslims today who have better strength of character than he had (sorry about your sensitivity, I hear this everyday)

Jesus was such a different man, He had a unique destiny to follow the Father's plan to the end, that plan required him to be unblemished, without sin, all throughout His life to the cross.

My 'great ones', Jesus keeps being The Way, The Truth and The Life, no one cometh to the Father except through Him.

Clue: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-113449.0.html

I still do not get it Huxley, what does this prove, whether or not I know the exact date that Christ was born shows nothing.

Huxley get this right, there exists no disparity within the content of God's WORD. The Bible in itself never dated the life span of King Herod, neither did it date the reign of cyrenius. You are the one with the dating problem. The Bible ascertains thier era, but you are the one with the problem trying to place a time line on them, you go figure out your problem.

I thought you were going to show me the verse in scripture where it was written that Herod died on so so date and that cynerius reigned so so date, scripture does not give those dates, either your dating system is wrong or you just have not gotten your facts right.

A word of advice, this is no way to approach scriptures, it will benefit those who first believe that 'He is' and He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
Religion / Re: Christianity And The Basic Bible Test by Xvalier: 10:34pm On Apr 15, 2008
Hello all,

I would like to start by saying that SCIENCE neither originates nor perpetuates any law, life process, matter or rule (force of gravity, seasons, sun rise and sun set, solar system, etc) that happens in life, a much greater Personality is resposible for that. You only need to look at the human body function to know a designer was at work, not an explosion somewhere, you only need to know how close the Earth is to the black hole, and yet not sucked into it to know there is a Hand behind it. Science merely observes, demonstrates, and utilizes what is already in existence.

I find it alarming that one can confidently tell me what happened 2000 millions years based on some fallible human theory but will not believe the historical truth of Bible scriptures. Over and over again, science comes back to align with what scripture says. Were it not for the Bible, a civilization called the Hitites would never have been known about, a recent archeological discovery in the last century only just discovered this site, but scriptures spoke of them thousands of years ago.

Where the Bible is not a history book, it's historical account remain absolutely accurate.

Christianity does not inhibit anyone from thinking, on the contrary, you can debate and question anything you see in scripture, if you are objective enough, you will find answers.

For Tpaine, I see you have a complete messed up theology about how sin came into being, you do not even understand the Angelic conflict, you do not even know the Salvation work of Christ, it's effect on humanity. I bet you would tell me sooner or later that evil comes from a particular chromosones in certain people's DNAs.

I will gladly go through your questions one by one.

Truth, objective Reality, cannot be evaluated by empiriscim (what you hear, taste, see, feel or touch), neither can Rationalism (works of Plato, Socraties, ), a third concept of perception comes into being, it is called FAITH, The believe and content of what is believed, the Scriptures), Heb 11:3 , For by Faith, scriptures (what is believed), we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Religion / Re: Why Do Christian Know So Little About The Bible And Their Religion? by Xvalier: 10:02pm On Mar 16, 2008
Take it easy Tpaine. First of all, Christianity is not a religion. Second, I do agree that the Historical origin and progress of christianity through the ages will add some flavor and appreciation to the content of Bible doctrine, but it will not increase your faith, as Faith comes by learning the 'mystery doctrne, that contained in the WORD OF GOD.

I encourage christians to read on church history, but I advise you to concentrate on the content of bible messages.

Tpaine, I see your posts all over on issues such as 'prophesies yet to be fulfilled', 'the vatican, ,' 'who is Ronald, ,' 'Myth of nazareth, etc

Yes it's nice to delibrate about all these issues, please if you are a christian, do not forget the essentials, the content of Scriptures itself.
Religion / Re: What Is Predestination? by Xvalier: 10:39pm On Mar 15, 2008
Hello Tpaine,

Biblical description of Predestination has to do with the provision of God for BELIEVERS only, which He had provided in eternity past, for the believer to fulfil His plan for thier lives (Rom 8: 28 - 29), Eph 1:5, 11. It in no way connotes that God coerces human freewill, neither does it mean that God chooses who goes to hell, like I said, 'Predestination' is for believers only.

Two aspects of God's knowledge are refered to in the Bible as 'foreknowledge' and 'omniscience'. The former refers to 'His knowing' of an event without His active participation, just passive, i.e, without intruding on human volition, He knows what decision everyone will take, but he does not force that decision. He knows all 'iffy' stories also, such as, 'what if Hitler had conquered the western alliance', 'what if your mum did not marry your dad' etc This is foreknowledge as described in scripture, this comes into bare then in the lives of believers, because He knows what decisions you and I would take, He makes provisions for us.
Religion / Re: Is Doctrine Important In Your Faith? by Xvalier: 8:35pm On Jan 24, 2008
Doctrines are the teachings taught in scriptures, they are usually in categories, for example, we have the teaching (doctrine) on 'prayer', we have the teaching (doctrine) on 'giving', we have the teaching (doctrine) on 'marriage' etc. Without doctrine you cannot have understanding of whatever your religion is.
People who do not understand doctrines are only 'card carrying members' of whatever group/sect/religion/political party they belong to.

Christian doctrines are important, they are the thinking of Christ, after meditating on them, the Holy Spirit uses them as 'raw materials' to develop the virtues of Christ in us, with his doctrine, we come to share His happiness.

After reading Pilgrim.1's write-up, it's now clear why the likes of babs787 are forever pursuing the thought that the Bible is not complete, that the Bible has been infiltrated, always asking questions like 'can you proof that the human authors of scriptures actually wrote the books attributed to them', his treads are usually designed to promote arguements between the Holy Bible and The Koran, his line of thinking is to discredit everything the Bible says, usually when its in his favour, babs787 will quote a Biblical verse to his advantage, and when not in his favour, he will remind you that the Bible was written many years after Christ and His disciples departed the earth.

Now I see, IT'S ALL BECAUSE MOHAMMED'S NAME IS NOT FOUND IN THE BIBLE.

The Bible predates all known literature ever known to man, we have it intact (in it's original language) just as it was written in it's original. The preservation of God's WORD to mankind is such a wonderful testimony to His grace.

babs787 stop burning cable like someone trying to win over a babe by discrediting her present lover, educate us about what the koran says, stop trying to justify the Koran by discrediting the Bible, tells us what the Koran says in itself.

Sorry also, but face it, Muhammad was never ever ever ever mentioned in the BIBLE.

Whether you dream that you will be a multi billionaire or that you and Bill Gates had a lunch together with President Bush, always remember that the plan of God for your life will take place, which will give you Happiness, joy and Peace, it may never be you being a millionaire.

Do not let dreams distract you from what your most important love is.

are you aware that the Northern Muslims treat and regard the Southern muslims as second class muslims. I say this with all objectivity. My Northern Muslim friends tell me they are true Islam followers. I must tell you also, that during the crisis that started as a result of the "Caricature of Mohammed", I know of 2 Yoruba Muslims that were killed along with Christians. I cannot begin to tell you the names they give to Southern Muslims

From the the few words of yours I read, you and I can be best of friends, even though we are of different religion, but again, from your name (and view point) I see you are a Southern Muslim, hence not suprised that you are thinking, rational, and objective.

I hope I can share issues with you from time to time.

Thank you fro your advise also.
Religion / Can Christians Carry Fire Arms As A Means Of Protection From Islamic Fanatics? by Xvalier: 9:50pm On Jan 01, 2008
I stay in the North East part of Nigeria, and I understand that my question may come as a shock to some Christians. But when you see and witness everyday what we experince here everyday, you would want to think again.
When I say Fire Arms, I refer to a licensed fire Arm, not like those acquired by armed robbers.

The rate at which religious disturbances occur here is alarming, we take cover in Military Cantoments when these events occur. I have many Muslims friends, I eat with them, we play together, however, most of them are Southern Muslims, though I have a few Northern Muslims, I am extra careful with them.

During crisis period, the Northern muslims do not know you as friends, they can kill the very person they ate with the day before. The advise for Fire Arms actually came from the Church council here (all churches here belong to this council)

Like I said earlier, owning Fire Arms might appear strange to my brothers and sisters in the South, here we are seriously considering having one so we can defend ourselves when another crisis occurs, and I assure you, that will be in less than 3 weeks.

What does the Bible say??

For example, are you evaluating based on

1) Accuracy of doctrinal content being taught from scripture

2) 'Spectaculars/Miracles' being displayed in thier ministries

3) Congregational size

4) Personal discipline in individual life/ministry

5) Size of offering

6) Effectiveness in soul winning

7) Number of church branches

cool Personal Charisma of Pastor

9) National impact

10) Others

Hi Pilgrim.1,

you have beautifully replied.

Is there any christian out there that truly requires answers to these issues? The bible never contradicts itself. The Spirit of God guarantees the accuracy of everything stated in scriptures 21Pet 1:21)

Every statement in scripture is not true, however they are truthfully stated. For example, when job stated in Job 1:21 that the Lord giveth and taketh away; that statement made by Job was truthfully stated by Job, and it was recorded in scriptures for us to know, however, we see that it was the devil taking away (however, as the Lord permitted), a lot of untrue statement are also found in Ecclesiastes.

God tells us to rightly divide His WORD (2Tim 2:15), understanding His WORD is not like attending a History class where you cram for exams and return to sender during exams, it requires the Spirit of God speaking to Spirit filled Christians to gain underatnding (1Cor 2: 9 - 16)

All the questions raised by babs787 is not an issue, he clearly lacks understanding, most of the things he stated have no correlation.

Keep studying guys.

I am sure there are a lot of people in this forum that can answer questions regarding the questions stated earlier, if every one is cool, lets move on.

There is no such thing as one pastor being better than the other, they have different crowds, different missions, different congregation, different methodologies, only God who gave them thier mandate can judge them.

Thier earthly qualifications is nothing before God, I am sure like Paul, they count it all dung for the excellency of the knowledge of christ.

oh yeah, if I knew I were to die soon, I will get down on my own knees and pray.

Hi, where I whole heartedly believe in the Trinity because the Bible teaches it, I do not quite agree on the explanation given on why Trinity exists. You claim God sent Himself Jesus and now we have another form of Him now in the Holy Spirit.
How then do you explain Jesus' prayers, are you saying Jesus was praying to Himself each time He prayed, your explanation of Trinity supports the popular errorneous illustration that the Godhead can be likened to the same way water can exist in liquid, Ice block and vapour.

Jesus prayed to God the Father when he was on earth, a real personality different from Him, the planner of the redemption plan, Jesus executed the plan, but God the Father was the planner, a different personality from God the Son. As seen in the Garden just before He approached the cross, remember our Lord's Words 'not my will, but yours'
Also, when our Lord Jesus was departing the earth, refering to the Holy Spirit, He said He will send another Comforter, someone different from Him, but of the same kind, deity is in view here, God the Holy Spirit.

Hence, God is 3 persons in one, not one person in 3.

The Godhead is made up of 3 different personalities in 1.

The 3 are one in essence, but 3 different personalities.

Anytime the essence of God(Righteousness, Justice, Love, Veracity, Omnipotent, Omniscience, Omnipresence, Holiness) is in view , the Lord is said to be one, because they all share these divine attributes, but whenever individual roles are mentioned, they are distinct from each other.

This is TRINITY.
