Politics / Re: If Buhari Had Won The April Polls by Yusufi(m): 12:42am On Sep 01, 2011 |
If Buhari had won the April pools, the root cause of our problems as a nation which is CORRUPTION would have been significantly stemmed because the Judiciary would be fully empowered to adequately prosecute any public official that has got a case to answer. That would spell the beginning of accountable governance where anything short of visible performance would not be entertained and tolerated. |

@ ikooko There is no problem really according to your analysis, but how will your analysis view the legalization of same sex marriage in this country to start with, yet such issue did not cause as much as a debate in US? For the benefit of doubt, I very much have a perfect understanding of all that I state. I choose to ignore your question on same sex marriage because it has no relevance to us a people whether customary, traditionally or religiously. A State is called a Sovereign State for the simple reason that it administers its government independent of foreign powers and is not subject to any other nation. A Constitution is a set of laws on how a country is governed. The question is what are a country's sources of Constitutional laws? Does it take cognizance of Customs, Traditions, & Conventions as Non-Legal Sources? Go find out. Therefore, the is nothing wrong in incorporating religious laws of the major beliefs of a people into a Nation's Constitution so long as the right of others who do not share such beliefs are not infringed upon. Yusufi, look at it this way; would you have prefer an Igbo inscription on Nigeria currency instead of arabic? If you are a yoruba man, would you not be seen as admitting that other ethnic group are superior to yours? What is an Igbo inscription? If you mean writing "Asato Naira" using the english alphabets, then so be it so long as I am able to read and understand same. It has nothing to do with being superior, it is only a means communicating information in a precise and comprehensive manner which is usually determined by the recipient of such information. Stop this superiority thing. Its whats killing our prospect for progress as a Nation. Even the western-educated hausa muslim Northerners can read the ajimi or arabic inscription so the logical thing to do would be to write same in ajimi to address the concerns of the vastly un-educated ones. Meanwhile, if for 50 years, other regions in the country tried hard to developed and educate their people, why not the North? Asians did not abandoned western education, they adopted it to develop their own and became a giant in technology. In my opinion other region are as passionate about their culture and race as the North but still gave peace a chance because of their education. Education is not about English language, it is about what you can do to improve quality of life. Referring to education, the Northerners are more concerned about obtaining religious education ahead of western education for the reason that religious education permeates every aspect of life to include psychological, scientific, social, economic, financial, political etc. It is a much more complete form than the western mode of education. You do not have to believe a thing of this but you could endeavour to dig up some facts about the world's greatest philosophers, mathematicians, astronomers, biologists that ever lived and find out about how they got so knowledgeable. For the average northerner, religion shapes and propels cultural and traditional beliefs and as such there is no room for traditional or customary beliefs if same contradict religious beliefs. So, religious beliefs my friend are the genesis of all other improvements that you are currently witnessing. Based on what you wrote, i think you are insinuating that this country can no longer be ruled by same constitution. Would it not have made an intelligent sense if you had suggested SNC or cessation? That is your own understanding of what I have written. Rather, the Constitution needs to be reviewed to reflect the cultural & religious diversity of the vast majority coz for the average muslim, religion ain't just about prayers and morality but borders on every aspect of livelihood and beyond. |
Politics / Re: Islamic Banking: Oritsejafor Replies Sultan! by Yusufi(m): 10:46am On Jul 31, 2011 |
As far as I am concerned, the CAN President is extremely ignorant and is a precise definition of an extremely intolerant being. Where on earth do people make laws or identify with things that are in direct variance with their cultural identity? If the american population was 50 percent Muslim and are politically represented in governance, would there be any problem in adopting certain policies that are Islamic in nature? If there exists both Christians and Muslims in equal proportion in a country, it is only logical to incorporate the values of each in a balanced proportion. What is wrong with writing Fifty Naira in Arabic considering the fact that a hand-full of those up north who are not exposed to western education would find it much easier to identify coz writing same in Hausa using the conventional abcd is as good as writing fifty Naira to such persons. Still on the arabic writings on the naira notes, it does not even make sense to an Arab because its just like me writing "Yaya aiki" to an english or non hausa-speaking person using the english alphabets. As for the lingua franca thing, english is not the predominant language among the uneducated natives up north. Moreover, even the colonial masters met the arabic or popularly called ajimi alphabetical system in place. Therefore, it predates the advent of our colonial masters. Up till date, people make written communication in hausa using the ajimi alphabets which would make no sense to the arabs. The question is: Is there anything wrong in passing a message to a large group of people in a manner with which they are accustomed to without infringing upon the rights of others? Kindly endeavour to research facts before making comments. Whether anyone likes it or not, the northers way of life is deeply rooted in their religious principles and would definitely remain so. You should not expect a group of persons to conceal or deny their identity just so that others feel secure. On Islamic banking, I suggests he takes a hike coz he and the institution he represents would rather gain than lose anything. Could it be that the leadership of the conventional banks are channeling their grievances via a common platform as a strategy to make the general public stand against its introduction coz they would probably lose out?, just thinking |
Politics / My Prediction Of The Nigerian Presidential Election For 2011 by Yusufi(m): 5:11pm On Mar 29, 2011 |
ANALYSIS ON THE OUTCOME OF THE NIGERIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION FOR 2011 1.0 NOTABLE ASSUMPTIONS 1. The Peoples’ votes would count 2. The elections would be free and fair 3. INEC would be truly independent and not subject to any form of compromise 4. The top opposition parties would work out a consensus agreement to wrestle the ruling party 5. It is going to be a two-horse race between two lead contenders namely: President Good-luck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) of the PDP and General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB) of the CPC 6. There would be an estimated 100 percent turn-out in each of the geo-political zones 7. All cast votes would be valid 8. The two lead contenders are going to enjoy a combined votes of 90 percent of total votes cast for each geo-political zone 9. Other contenders would among themselves record a combined total votes of 5 and 10 percent for the northern and southern zones respectively 2.0 PRESENTATION OF DATA Table I: Schedule of registered Voters for the 2011 general election by Geo-Political Distribution; S/N GEO-POL. Number of States Good-Luck Jonathan of the PDP has by virtue of earning a total of 24.97 million votes won a total of 19 states which translates to an estimated 43.24 percent of all the states. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.) of the CPC with total votes of 37.89 million has won 21 states which translate to 56.76 percent of total states. 7.0 CONCLUSION General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) of the CPC though in pole position and haven polled 55.91 percent of total votes and by implication 56.76 percent of all the states falls short of meeting the constitutional requirement of two-thirds of the total number of states required to be declared winner of the presidential election. Therefore, a re-run election would be conducted within the next 7 days. AFTER ANOTHER BOUT, WE ARE MOST LIKELY TO GET THE SAME RESULTS. THEN, THE FINAL BOUT WOULD BE DECIDED ON THE BASIS OF SIMPLE MAJORITY AFTER WHICH…. ………, GEN. MUHAMMADU BUHARI (RTD.) @ Princek12 1) Women do not have the freedom to open their faces and their bodies; they are forced to do it according to Sharia law. I do not understand why you seem to be complaining about a law that does not even apply to your person. You are highly unqualified and definitely not knowledgeable enough to comment on all that you are stating. Is it wrong for Muslims to demand to be governed by the dictates of their religion in a DEMOCRACY especially when they constitutionally have a right to demand for same? What on earth is your point? It seems you are trying so hard to champion the alienation and disenfranchisement of over 70 Million persons simply because you mysteriously presume that their preferred way of life does not conform to your idea and definition of a "free society" If that is your perception of democracy, then I am afraid you are on your own and in direct contradiction of its definition which is a government of the people, for the people and by the people & not a government of a selfish few in denial of the rights of others. |

@ Asobank It is baseless and meaningless. We need a Man of great intelligence and dignity to lead us. It is not by dropping military uniform and becoming civilian. What did hedo when he was opportuned. Power should not be abused in this democratic era. Who does this Cap fit? GEJ and only GEJ. LO I am certain that you do not understand the meaning of the word "Dignity" Buhari might not be "intelligent" enough for you but his pedigree and achievements are clearly unmatched and undeniably outshine those of any other military or civilian Head of State in the history of Nigeria. In cased you missed that part, the principal achievements of his government in 18 months among others include: 1. It instituted the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) to stem corruption which was a 100% success 2. The administration reduced the inflation rate in the economy from 23% to 4% 3. It supervised and oversaw the birth of ALL the existing refineries in the country Tell me if the current ruling party has been able to achieve any of these since inception of democratic rule in 1999 till date. @PrinceK12 I agree with you 100%, that norms and customs of that country determine the Constitution. So the question is whose norms and customs should we allow to determine our Constitution? An that every Constitution has a basic principle, and should not contradict itself. If you stand for freedom, then make a Constitution that supports freedom. It is a recipe for chaos to have a constitution that treats like citizens differently. If the norms and customs of Northerners is to have their hands cut off for stealing a cow or to restrict the freedom of women then maybe Nigeria should separate and they should make their own constitution. But it is irrational to have a Nigerian Constitution that contradicts itself; it promotes freedom and allows Sharia law that restricts the same freedom it promotes. How do you reconcile that? Firstly, you need to understand that all made-man laws just as with any Constitution are far from perfect and are in certain instances contradictory. NO CONSTITUTION IN the world so far its man-made is devoid of errors such as contradictions, omissions and ambiguities. The Constitution is supposed to at least accommodate the norms and customs of the most dominant cultures in the country. You could take that to mean Hausa, Ibo & Yoruba. In other words, the Constitution is supposed to harmonize the complexities of these dominant customs to produce a general guideline for compliance by all. The truth is that it is humanly impossible to perfectly harmonize all these customary complexities in such a manner that would be acceptable to all. Also, Shariah law is not binding on non-muslims because no one would cut-off the hands of a non-muslim even if he's found guilty of stealing within a sharia-enforced state. |
Politics / Re: A Revolution In The Making Buhari Bakare (Tears Of Joy) by Yusufi(m): 2:34pm On Mar 28, 2011 |
@Princek12 The Nigerian Constitution should have severed every part of the Sharia law that infringes on a Constitutional guarantee or included a provisio that forbids any part of the Sharia law contradicting the same Constitution, which will reduce Sharia law to our regular common law and there would be no need for it. The Constitution of every Country in the world is largely derived from the norms and customs of the respective society it is intended to serve. No Constitution was drafted out of mere imagination or nothing. NORMS AND CUSTOMS DETERMINE THE CONSTITUTION and not the Other way. I suggest you update yourself with respect to the basics of Constitutional Law. |

@ PrinceK14 Even within the context of man-made constitution, there is no such thing as absolute freedom. Ask the legal practitioners. They know best. What I find unacceptable is for the rights and freedom of others to be denied for fear of others loosing their freedom. That is absurd and the highest point of human rights abuse. |

It seems the only excuse that most posters are putting up against Buhari's candidature is centered around the introduction of Sharia. For all such posters, please substantiate your claims that Buhari has got plans to "Islamise" the nation if elected President or stop peddling incoherent rumors. For those who do not know, Sharia is not and would never be applicable to non-muslims as contained in the Holy scripture. Democracy allows for persons to demand the promulgation of laws which they consider relevant to their cause as a people. So, whats wrong with Muslims' who demand to be governed in accordance with laws in which they completely believe and have faith in? |

I am just trying to open up our minds to the dangers of manufacturing imaginary motives or reasons behind actions. It is therefore necessary and important for GEJ, security operatives, and the general public to work with available substantial information as against trying to pursue the perpetrators on the basis of some mis-conceived of abstract thoughts. Mr President's statements alleging the use of MEND as a cover-up for the October 1st bombings were premature, malicious, unguarded, pre-emptive and full of sentiments all in a desperate attempt to exonerate his kinsmen and pass the buck of blame to political opponents prior to the conclusion of preliminary investigations and without anything substantial to corroborate his assertion. He stated to have known the sponsors of the monstrous act even before the identities of the perpetrators are yet to be unmasked. We need a national leader not a regional or tribal leader. In summary, most of the posters here on NL absolutely lack the slightest idea of Islam which they term to be highly intolerant and violent. It is this attitude of spewing garbage while being completely ignorant that has eaten unto the morality of even the so called civilized and educated ones among us. How on earth can one make informed comments about that which he totally lacks knowledge? Comparing Islam to Christianity is like comparing the entire Nigerian Constitution to the electoral act which only applies in matters related to elections. When an alleged Muslim's action creates chaos, then all Muslims are termed to be terrorists and the religion of Islam is regarded as highly intolerant and promotes violence. On the other hand, if the perpetrator is an alleged Christian, then it is regarded as an isolated case of mental imbalance devoid of any religious affiliation. The same was stated when a lad rammed his car right unto an airplane on ground one the airports in the southern states. If that lad was identified to be a Muslim, the US army would have probably set up anti-terrorist bases in multiple points of Nigeria. Would I be correct to identify the actions of this lady as being at par with the tenets of her religious belief and consider her action to be in conformity with the teachings and principles of her religion? |
Politics / Re: Plateau Massacre : Police arrest 377 suspects, prosecute 162 by Yusufi(m): 9:58am On Mar 09, 2010 |
How come no one is celebrating the killings just as they were celebrated by some nairalanders when the same tragedy struck Kuru Karama village of Jos which is a pre-dominantly Hausa/Fulani Muslim settlement? The killings are condemnable in all ramifications especially when women and children fall victims because even within the true context of Jihad, women and children are prohibited from being attacked except of course, in self defence. Therefore, the killings have got nothing to do with anything Islamic. It is but purely an alleged reappraisal attack for the un-suspecting killings of Fulani men, women, children, cattle and the destruction of properties carried out in the alleged genocide of Kuru Karamah village of Jos and its environs. The Fulani pastoralists are by nature un-forgiving and highly intolerant, to even their immediate kinsmen the Hausas, of any wrong done against them. This is largely due to their reclusive ways of life which is devoid of any form of liberalisation. In as much as it hurts to lose someone we all identify with on the basis of a group which in this case is religion, no life is more sacred than the other as all lives remain equal. The Kuru Karamah incident of alleged genocide which has resulted into the recent reappraisal attacks of villages of co-incidentally Christian indigenes did not get so much audience and attention of the populace and government because reports have it that over ninety suspects have already being rounded up in less than forty eight hours with no single suspect rounded up in respect of the gruesome murders that took place at kuru karamah which occurred over 7 wks ago. I am not in way justifying the murders because the laws are there to supposedly guide our conducts and actions. The truth is that people all over the take the laws into their hands due to lack of confidence in the system that comprises the entire arms of government. In a bid to remain relevant, the security forces would only end up rounding up innocent persons within the confines of their homes just because they identify with the same ethnicity as the alleged perpetuators. Knowing the Fulani for who they are, they certainly would not let sleeping dogs lie as it would only take an act of divinity for them to back down on their stands. I pray for God to soften their hearts & enable them forgive those that perpetuated heinous crimes against them in the name of indigene-settler dichotomy. As for the native beroms who have fallen victim of the recent attacks, I urge them to exercise restraints and not muddle up issues by seeking to avenge the deaths of their kinsmen against any Hausa/Fulani speaking “settler” because should that emanate, then they would be venturing into a lost battle which would not only be fruitless but capable of increasing their woes. My prayer is for everyone to exercise restraint and commit the Plateau into prayers for an amicable resolution on peaceful co-existence. |

@ binatrix @ Yusufi, no one is in support of the killings in Jos town but get this message that other tribes such as Igbos, Yorubas etc also came to reside in Jos like the Hausas but why cant they live in harmony and go about getting thier daily bread like the igbos and yorubas and the tivs etc that came to settle in Jos? In case you are not familiar with the terrain of Jos, the only reason why the natives are at loggerheads with the Hausa/Fulani and not any other ethnicity is simply because they consider the Hausa/Fulani to be threats to their economic independence by virtue of their large number and financial/economic dominance of the metropolitan city of Jos, the capital of Plateau. It is a simply a fight to regain economic control of the capital in a bid to cripple the insurgence of any political ambition of the settlers. Find out the ethnic identity of the trade merchants within Jos metropolis before you begin to make disputing remarks. What is the identity of majority of the principal dealers to multinationals like PZ, Unilever, Nestle, NBC etc? That should give you a clue. even in the Lagos history, still recognises the original indigenes of Eko and thats where they get the Oba of Lagos from. The oba of Lagos, just as any traditional chief, has got no constitution relevance. By the term ruling class, I am referring to the constitutionally recognised authority. Try again. |
Politics / Re: Genocide Reported In Kuru Village Of Jos by Yusufi(m): 12:20pm On Feb 10, 2010 |
@ Patwrang THE TRUE POSITION OF INDIGENESHIP IN JOS TOWNSHIP: Another "JUSTIFICATION" FOR GRUESOME MURDER!!! Even with all the history lessons, you still fail to realise that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria does not recognise any group of persons by the name of settlers or indigents but rather citizens as no law exists in the country that creates a divide between the so called indigenes and settlers such as to deny the so called settlers from residing in any part of the country, owning business establishments anywhere and contesting for elective positions within their host community. In fact, the current Governor of Kano State is not even a Hausa man. Go dig up the history of Lagos and inform the house of the identity of the indigent Lagosians in contrast to those of the ruling class. All that you have stated here is abject vanity and a mis-representation of the law which has continued to consume the natives of the Plateau and encouraged them to ensue hatred towards the so called settlers as you choose to call them. If you are supposed to be of the enlightened cadre, I wonder how the ignorant ones do reason. |

@ darqly Yusufi- u drew that analogy not me. I never satated that you did. Perhaps i may amend my comment,Northern nigeria harbours many miscreants under the guise of islam. Simple demography will give credence to my assertion above. Oh yes just in the same manner that the south habours hoodlums who are predominantly christians under the guise of bus conductors/okada riders, freedom fighters, revenue collectors etc. The good and the bad do exit in every society. Still waiting to be referred to the said demography else, its just one of them tales with nothing substantial to prove it. Are there no muslims in southern Nigeria? Of course there are but they happen to be in the minority and are compelled to live in conformity to the norms and customs of the native majority who are predominantly christians. Its a simple case of adjusting your ways to suit that of your host community and be at peace with all. Moreover, refer to Ibrahim_B's earlier post for more details. Why don't they get their nickers in a twist like their northern brethren? Good idea! I've hardly heard of a peaceful protest that didn't turn ugly so far as muslim youths are involved. That is because you have already got an apparent biased mind towards muslims coupled with abject ignorance. The people who lost their lives over the Miss World protest, what did they ever do in support of the pageant? And what was the feeble excuse from JNI?? The rally was hijacked by miscreants. That is just the honest truth. If you know otherwise, please enlighten the house. After-all, it is common knowledge that there always exist miscreants in every society waiting to take advantage of situations. A good example is Haiti where hoodlums have resorted to theft of even things that are not edible in nature. Your subtle barb on my intelligence notwithstanding, you'd do well to educate your followers and not me! No, your choice of words let you down. As for the education, just shut your mind to it as you always do and remain in your state of ignorance. It is just a vindication of the adage that states that you might be able to force a horse to the river bank, but you can definitely not force it to drink from it. @ Trenchcoat Absolutely! This is well said I have a very good Christian friend next door to me here in Kano, I dont know why people like creating false information, what will they achieve by causing chaos? It is simply a strategy called mis-inform and gain cheap predominant sympathy in an attempt to conceal the actual motives for actions. Unfortunately, most Nigerians especially those abroad hardly ever confirm the veracity of statements especially the ones made by all and sundry on public forums like NL. I insist and still insist that mis-information is more harzadous than violence itself because it ultimately is the prime instigator of lawlessness which propels violence. We have a lot of them on NL and I urge the objective memebers to as much as possible try to expose them an ultimately make NL devoild of rumour-mongers. |

darqly: @yusufi et al- We're not the ones you should be trying to convince, but your irate fellow faithfuls who're not even educated enough to understand one jot of what you've been harping on. I'm sorry but islam,as practised in Nigeria harbours far more miscreants than it does followers. That should give you lot something to ponder on. It seems you are missing the whole point. I am not trying to convince anyone. Why should I? I am rather trying to educate fellow NLs on why northern Nigeria seems to experience so much religious upheavals. That you consider majority of those practising the religion to be miscreants rather than followers is not just unfortunate but a vivid exhibition of ignorance and illiteracy as far the religion is concerned on your part which greatly contributes to the problem. You could in line with your sense of reasoning also conclude that majority of armed robbers, drug traffickers, prostitutes, militants, ritualists and their likes are also muslims if it so pleases you since you are so vastly "educated". I think you could be excused for lacking the acumen to articulate a very simple analogy after all, all fingers are not equal. |

Yusufi, your defense above is very weak. Your statement is exactly why Islam cannot claim to be a religion of peace or one that is tolerant of other beliefs. Why can't Allah come down himself and deal with those blaspheming his 'divine statement'? Why must he rely on Ignorant Muslim faithfuls to do it for him? I don't buy the argument that non-Muslims should respect Muslims beliefs and sensitivities. They are under no obligation to do so as long as they are not breaking the laws as stated in the constitution (not the illegal sharia code). @museog Firstly, you must note that whenever I refer to Islam and muslims, I am not stating a personal opinion as logic or intuition does not necessarily determine or prompt behaviour in Islam for all course of actions have been prescribed. I am just attempting to alleviate some ignorance in order to provide a proper foundation towards explaining the core tenets of Islam. Kindly desist from posting provocative statements as I would be compelled to ignore all you posts because your statement depict abject ignorance of the basis for creation, sheer arrogance towards the Al-mighty and inherent hatred towards Islam and Muslims. I do not remember stating any defence anywhere in my submission because the religion of Islam need not be defended by any being or spirit in as much as every muslim is decreed to strongly condemn any statement or act of blasphemy as an act of worship by voicing out their protests to their constituted leaders which are representative of constitutionally elected leaders for further action since Nigeria is governed by a constitution. In Islam, saying the five daily prayers is not all that constitutes the act of worship but I do not really expect you to understand this position because as I stated earlier on, most Christians are ignorant as far as the cardinal principles of Islam are concerned which is responsible for a lot of the provocative statements being made that result to the so called religious-crises that sometime emanate. On the issue of respect, how do you really expect people of diverse religious beliefs and ethnicity to cohabit peacefully without recourse to mutual respect and understanding of one another’s differences? Kindly educate the house on that as your suggestion would probably go a long way in helping to promote unity in diversity and guarantee the much sustained peace that we all clamour. Concerning the issue of abiding by the constitution, kindly refer the house to any portion of the constitution that approves of any action even when it stands to infringe on the beliefs and values of a people. |

The bold portion happens to be a typical example of what I analyzed earlier on. TRENCHCOAT, That portion of the statement, even when unintended and directed at just one individual, is decreed and bound to be considered by all muslim faithfuls globally as an abject mockery of God's divine statement as contained in His Holy book simply because phrases and statements from the divine book are completely forbidden and considered blasphemous when used outside the context of its intended meaning by muslims and worst of all non-muslims. This alone is ordinarily capable of inciting protests owing to the fact that such course of actions are decreed to be vehemently opposed at all costs as an act of worship. You have just got to know and stick to this to earn the respect and trust of any muslim faithful. He or she on the other hand is decreed and compelled to safeguard your interest, protect your life and property and live peacefully with you even if it will cost him his life. |

@edoyad Would I not seem extremely ignorant & stupid to incinuate that northerners are predominantly christains? May be you could educate us a little by taking us back in history and concluding by identifying the current states within the defunct northern and southern protectorates. Wonders shall never end. Thats primary skool stuff. |

@ DatNiggaAK In as much as you have derailed from the subject matter at hand as this is not a religious thread, I would attempt to proffer some explanations which could provide the house with an insight for the questions you have raised Majority of northerners are predominantly muslims just as their southern counterparts are predominantly christains which hypothetically leaves us with some kind of balance across the country in terms of population. That haven been said, our respective religious beliefs are bound to create differences between us as humans in as much as we are compelled to relate in all spheres of life that sometime necessitates us to live amidst one another. It is not in forgetting our differences that would ensure peaceful co-existence among us but rather, it is our understanding of each other’s differences that would enhance same and consequently lead to mutual respect and cohesion. Here is the tricky one. The bulk of the problem lies in where one finds him or herself completely ignorant of his or her host community’s different religious beliefs and values such that he or she sub-consciously behaves in ways that are in-sensitive to the peoples religious values. The underlying factor that is readily responsible for most of the uprisings in the north falls down to ignorance of the Islamic religion on the part of a large number of non-muslims who find themselves living amidst muslims coupled with of course, the abject state of idleness among the youthful generation of the north just as same exists in the south. As unfortunate it might sound, the informed christain does not possess an in-depth knowledge of the religion of Islam in the same manner with which the informed muslims possesses knowledge of the core tenets of Christianity. Christianity which is defined as a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus (PBUH) is so flexible that it tends to accommodate various ways of life so long as the dictionary definition of civil is not compromised. Islam on the other hands is defined to be total submission to the will of God (SWT) and a complete way of life in the sense that your thoughts and actions should ideally not be in contradiction with its dictates under any circumstance as all matters emanating from one’s total actions right from birth to death have been decreed in its holy books and as such leave no room for wishful thinking or intuition. An ideal muslim could though be identified on the basis of ethnicity by virtue of origin, is not expected to uphold the teachings of any cultural value to the detriment of the ultimate core doctrine of the Islamic jurisprudence. Let me further explain using a very simple analogy. A joke is defined as a short story or ironic depiction of a situation communicated with the intent of being humorous. To a Christian, a simple Joke in which a ridiculous mention of Christ (PBUH) is referred to within the context of the humor in order to capture the attention of the audience and give it some kind of relevance does not necessarily translate into derogatory statements or blasphemy because it is just a joke as it is not considered to be a deliberate attack on the person of Christ even when such joke emanates from a non-Christian. To the muslim on the other hand, the mention of any of the Holy prophets, especially Muhammad (PBUH) in a caricatured manner for the sole purpose of humour and amusement is considered as a direct assault on the religion and the generality of muslims globally to be met with stiff resistance and condemnation. Infact, it is considered more inciting than a physical assault on the person of any individual muslim. Such are the core tenets of the religion of Islam. It gives no room for speculation in matters of divinity. For as long as the christain living within a muslim community does not understand this analogy, there is no way he or she can relate or behave in such a manner that would not contradict or infringe on the core beliefs of the muslim community in which he or she is resident owing to fact as far as he or she is concerned, he has not said or done anything to hurt the feelings of the host community that should warrant a protest. , to be continued |

@ edoyad There is no point resorting to story-telling in order to desperately pass on the bulk of blame. Moreover, what you all claim to have allegedly sparked of the crisis still remains an unverifiable statement because even the state's police commissioner who tendered the official statement has been unable to substantiate same which has resulted to his being relieved of the state command due to the embarrassment he has caused the Nigerian Police Force and the nation at large. It was a premature statement issued even prior to the commencement of investigations in the wake of the initial breakdown of law and order. Details of the alleged church that was attacked and the events that ensued thereafter are yet to emerge from any confirmed media report. It is on these bases that the CP's statements have been considered to be pre-meditated. Perhaps maybe some of us need a witch doctor to confirm that the CP's statements were pre-meditated even after considering the speed at which it was aired and the absence of confirmed media reports to buttress same. If any individual is certain of his source of info, he or she should kindly refer the house to a confirmed media report on their own taking on the alleged cause of the crisis. Anything short of which will be a calculated attempt to mis-inform the house for some selfish reasons with the intention of deceive, mislead and play on the intelligence of all. I still have difficulties in understanding why some persons cannot look beyond religious lines to be able to analyse situations from a common sense point of view. The massacre in Kuru Jantar has got nothing to do with religious fanatism or extremism. It is towed on the part on indigene-settler dichotomy. In order words, it is a matter localised within the jos metropolis and the immediate environs. For confirmed media reports of the genesis of the recent un-rest, kindly refer to any of the under-stated links. allafrica.com/stories/201001190555.html http://saharareporters.com/news/4883-jos-crisis-escalates-qbeyond-official-controlq.html For confirmed media reports on the underlyeing motives and why it would continue to persist: http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/life_style/article01//indexn2_html?pdate=230110&ptitle=Why%20The%20Jos%20Crisis%20Persists @1Emmy There is absolutely no reason for you to attack the generality of northerners and their religion. As with every group, there are always disgruntled elements that perpetuate violence at the slightest opportunity in order to exhibit their animalistic tendencies. A typical example is that robbers and looters exist in every group of persons from all sides of the country be it north, south, west or east. Also bear in mind that recent un-rest in jos are primarily of political and economic dimensions but the perpetuators would always hide under the cover of religion to gain undeserved sympathy and solidarity from the Christendom in order to conceal their true intent. |
