Dr Olufunmilayo
At least something is left after deductions unlike Nigeria's where you're thrown into debt with or without deductions.

What doesn’t make sense? I believe he bloated those take home. US cannot take $5k home monthly for $90k salary but you do have retirement savings and healthcare insurance deducted already from it. Those monies are not tax as people will have others believe. It is your money you decide to spend for your health

Those who want a better life will still travel out of this hell-hole. 20,000 £ is more than 34 million Naira. And that is the least annual salary the poster wrote there. You dey whine? Which job wan pay a Nigerian youth up to 34 million NGN every year for inside Naija? Abi nah all these one-man business wey full everywhere?

If you work for 3 years, you will be able to invest in a business in Nigeria that someone residing in Nigeria will not be able to start with 12 years of working.
So u want to work for 3 years and come back with say 33M assuming(impossibly) u save 30% for d 3 yrs and invest in a business right ? So can u explain why those who have 40M already in Nigerian are seeking to travel to the UK?

What if.

That means he could be wrong. I would listen to more people in the UK and then weigh my options.

Also, insecurity in the UK is almost Zero.

As a freelancer who resides in the UK, I get better chances to get hired by businesses in Europe and the US.

Anyhow you want to look at it, there are advantages.

Yes but in the UK,

- you do not queue for hours to buy fuel
- you do not buy fuel for generators
- you have access to a proper government health insurance system
- well managed transportation which means you really do not need a car to move around
- no touts on the road trying to extort you like this new task force roaming about Abuja roads.
- no police, VIO or FRSC officials trying to extort you on the road for flimsy stuff.

In other words, those things you spend money on in Nigeria, you find that the tax deductions actually pay for them in UK so you do not need to spend again from your pocket.

Also, the Britons don't like seeing your face there. Can u imagine how it feels not being wanted everywhere u go? Have u imagined it might be a worse feeling than driving on bad roads ?

And DISADVANTAGES !!
There are both.. U must consider both exhaustively not hastily choose to hear what u want to hear...
Insecurity is not zero.. teenagers do a lot of knife attacks with one another.. U can't discipline ur children the way u would like.. expenses are in pounds not naira... u get to deal with adverse weather which is a more painful problem than having to fan yourself in the afternoon when there is no light.

Average monthly rent in UK is £1,200 (london x2 that amount), average utilities is £200, £35 for internet, phone around £40, groceries around £500 monthly for a family of 3, and average bus and tram pass (for 1x person) for a month is £100

That's £2,075

Given the average annual salary is £40,000 for full-time jobs and the monthly net is averagely £2,693, your leftover is:

£2,693 less £2,075 = £618, or £20 per day.

This doesn't include clothing, toiletries, movies, haircuts, gate passes, rentals, health, insurances, entertainment, savings, gifts, etc

You can't be right with this. £500 for groceries for a family of 3? People spend way less than that.

There are places you can pay a little less than half of £1,200 for rent. It all depends on the lifestyle you want to choose.

About your last paragraph, one have to confine their expenses within their income.

But he said it clearly na, yearly salary and monthly net income, just press calculator divide by 12 na. He did not misrepresent anything.
Why make people calculate in month. He could have just used month and not yearly salary in that table of his.
There are tons of papers and reports out there how people misrepresent a story seemingly using data. Start with How to Lie with Statistics by Dr. Hashim AlZain. In Science and Academia, you don't do what he did. And FFS, he is a Dr

It's
It has always been a mixed bag for me. When I want something I can only get on the UK, I go to the UK, and when I want something I can only get in Nigeria, I go to Nigeria.

The world is simple.....no single country has all their shits together. That's why I rather see myself as a citizen of the world instead of fixating myself to one or two limited environment.

That's the ultimate aim - a global citizen. Reap benefits wherever possible. cool

He didn't say he will invest and stay in Nigeria. Nobody dose that...
If you lose the 33 million in the business, you can always make another one through your already established career in UK. If you lose 40M while in Nigeria, your life is possibly over...

I want to point some things to you. Will their annual household income forever remain on 40k? Are there no opportunity to change to better paying jobs or get promoted to higher-paying roles within the same company? and Lets go by this your calculation, even if all they have left to save as a family is £200 for fixing something back home, is it not something for being on minimum wage jobs? But my major argument with u is this, will they be on minimum wage forever? Do they have jobs in Nigeria that will have them save 500k every month for investment or building project? When they were in Nigeria, did they have budget for gifts, entertainment. If NO, why is it now suddenly important because they are in UK.
will their expenses and utilities and cravings also remain stagnant??

The most hilarious part of it is; when someone in the UK tell u not to come and he obviously not ready to relocate back to 9ja..🤣🤣

No seriously is not that they don't want to go back home, it is the shame of going back and starting over again and people chiding you that what did you achieve not knowing that things get as e be for here. My cousin took the boldest step to relocate when he realised he was not moving forward in the UK, even when he got to Nigeria, I was the only one he told before he told his people after some months. Now he is a senior Engineer in a big Oil company in Nigeria.
