THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO INCREASE AWARENESS ABOUT COST OF LIVING ABROAD

ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO GRADUATED UNIVERSITY BUT ARE CALCULATING POUNDS TO NAIRA DIRECTLY

THEY SHOULD BE EDUCATED, AS THIS IS NOT THE SAME THING.

THE WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TREATING AFRICANS LIKE COMMODITIES.

Foreign remittance. The best of houses in my area are all owned by people in the diaspora. Most families that i personally know are living comfortably Courtney of their siblings in the diaspora. Many had established businesses in Nigeria.

Tell your epistle to 95% of Nigerians that cannot boast of 500k in their bank account. Tell that to over 95% of Nigerians that cannot afford 3 square meal daily. You can aswell tell that to millions of unemployed graduates littered all over the country.

Make people in UK save £500k first

You can't compare Nigeria to UK. There in UK, you have value for your money no matter how high is the tax and deductions. I'll go there any day, any time.

And work are available to make this amount of money anytime any day. In Nigeria where are the work. People think it's all about the money, but it's all about the availability of work.

Average monthly rent in UK is £1,200 (london x2 that amount), average utilities is £200, £35 for internet, phone around £40, groceries around £500 monthly for a family of 3, and average bus and tram pass (for 1x person) for a month is £100

That's £2,075

Given the average annual salary is £40,000 for full-time jobs and the monthly net is averagely £2,693, your leftover is:

£2,693 less £2,075 = £618, or £20 per day.

This doesn't include clothing, toiletries, movies, haircuts, gate passes, rentals, health, insurances, entertainment, savings, gifts, etc

Your post reaffirms the current 'cost of living' crisis.

expenses and utilities wont remain stagnant, if its about cravings, people earning 50kNGN per month in naija have cravings too. The normal thing is that u dont satify ur cravings if u cannot afford it, will 3k net income take care of a family of 3 in UK? it will. Will the household income be minimum wage forever? I dont expect it to be so.
You are right as far as I am...

The more u step up the ladder the more ur expenditures grows in size sebi u know?

Left to me, the only thing that make UK better is the minimal social vices and ready made amenities..every other sides they are below Nigeria

You made interesting point about the foreign remittance. Here is the problem with foreign remittance. Despite how valuable their money compared to Nigerian currency right now those money are chasing few goods in Nigeria. Don't make it look like those foreign remittances are easy to come buy and flow from there to this place easily. Those many established businesses and houses are not just from foreign remittances alone.

Why not tell us their percentage of taxable income.
Re: Yearly Salary & Monthly Income After Tax Deductions In UK by achorladey: 8:09am On May 05
obaidan:

The basis for comparison is that savings u have to send to Nigeria that you talked about. Husband and Wife with household net income of 2800 can still afford to easily send 588pounds(1millionNGN) back home monthly for whatever project they have(which is conservative because they wont stay on minimum wage forever and many people even earn above minimum wage).

No let anyone whine u say say rent dey expensive, person wey dey from ikorodu go VI everyday in Nigeria, e reach UK e say e no fit stay 45minutes away from his office. Na him dey find weytin no lost

That savings do not get to Nigeria all the time in equal amount and when they do they chase few goods due to inflation in Nigeria. We should not simplify all these things.

My point is not to discourage anyone travelling to foreign countries to live and earn. The unnecessary comparison made with their currency and that of Nigeria is of no use. Not all savings or foreign remittance over there get to Nigeria. When those foreign remittance get to Nigeria. They are used to chase FEW GOODS put that in mind due to inflation and economic dynamics everywhere.

God forbid the day I will abandon a well paying Nigerian job just because I want to put on winter jacket in UK while my face is unhappy and my health is terribly under stress.

I do not mind doing it for a job or immigration to the USA where opportunities abound for even the very 1st generation of the immigrant family, but UK is a big NO.

The majority of Nigerians who have been in the UK since the early 1980s, they have not made it till today. Their children have not made it too.

The wise 3rd generation have embraced sport and entertainment, so that the curse of the UK will not happen to the 3rd generation of the family.

If you go to the UK, you are going there to suffer so that maybe your 3rd generation family can finally live wealthy.

The points in this post are just perfect. Most people tend to understand after they’ve gotten into the system. You are comfortable in Nigeria , I see no reason to venture into the unknown which in most cases isn’t worth. If your condition is terrible here , by all means explore.

‘I’m doing it for my children’ okay look at the people that has done before you and see how better off their children are. Especially the uk, this doesn’t apply to other western countries with better opportunities. Like someone said earlier, The UK is not the best destination for immigration, it's just a better place.

You can't be right with this. £500 for groceries for a family of 3? People spend way less than that.

There are places you can pay a little less than half of £1,200 for rent. It all depends on the lifestyle you want to choose.

About your last paragraph, one have to confine their expenses within their income.

Stop decieving yourselves and find your way out of Nigeria b4 it implodes, senior civil servants, senior bankers, Nurses and Doctors have all left Nigeria to the UK and other western countries, most of them do not regret. My best decision ever in life at 40yrs plus was moving my family to the uk, i can categorically say btw my wife and i we earnd excess of £50,000 pounds in a year after tax and pension, do i have savings yet? Yes i have a little bit and I am fulfilled, living very comfortably with 2 good cars, dont worry about school fees any more, my parents and my inlaws are on 100,000 naira allowance monthly fully funded by us, am happy and my house hold is happy.

foreign remittance is more than our national budget. Less than 5% of Nigerians can boast of 500k in their bank account according to the minister of finance and CBN. Send one person in each family of the remaining 95% to US or Australia and come back in 6 months time. Those family lives will automatically change. At least those family would be able to afford 3 Square meal daily that most average Nigerians can't afford. Also, those families will be able to boast of 500k and beyond in their account. That is the level how foreign remittance has helped some families in Nigeria that are fortunate to have someone over there.

See Daddyjapan's response to me. It's the same £500 for food. Sure, you can penny-pinch and starve a bit to eke out more savings but the scenario i gave is for an average decent family

And rent is going up

This is nothing to discourage anyone from going there.

Just that I don't personally like that country, so if this is not the case, I won't still go there unless it is for business or official purposes.

Foreign remittance is more than our national budget and yet you can hardly see the impact. That tells me those remittances are chasing few goods here in Nigeria as a result of inflation and economy dynamics. We have seen examples here where even close friends hardly get help from their colleagues who travelled abroad for greener pastures. It tells me the influence they have on their family and close relatives are being exaggerated.
