The basis for comparison is that savings u have to send to Nigeria that you talked about. Husband and Wife with household net income of 2800 can still afford to easily send 588pounds(1millionNGN) back home monthly for whatever project they have(which is conservative because they wont stay on minimum wage forever and many people even earn above minimum wage).

God forbid the day I will abandon a well paying Nigerian job just because I want to put on winter jacket in UK while my face is unhappy and my health is terribly under stress.

I do not mind doing it for a job or immigration to the USA where opportunities abound for even the very 1st generation of the immigrant family, but UK is a big NO.

The majority of Nigerians who have been in the UK since the early 1980s, they have not made it till today. Their children have not made it too.

The wise 3rd generation have embraced sport and entertainment, so that the curse of the UK will not happen to the 3rd generation of the family.

You made interesting point about the foreign remittance. Here is the problem with foreign remittance. Despite how valuable their money compared to Nigerian currency right now those money are chasing few goods in Nigeria. Don't make it look like those foreign remittances are easy to come buy and flow from there to this place easily. Those many established businesses and houses are not just from foreign remittances alone.

foreign remittance is more than our national budget. Less than 5% of Nigerians can boast of 500k in their bank account according to the minister of finance and CBN. Send one person in each family of the remaining 95% to US or Australia and come back in 6 months time. Those family lives will automatically change. At least those family would be able to afford 3 Square meal daily that most average Nigerians can't afford. Also, those families will be able to boast of 500k and beyond in their account. That is the level how foreign remittance has helped some families in Nigeria that are fortunate to have someone over there.
