They should not merge Nigerian Customs Service with FIRS please.. NCS has several functions and need to remain paramilitary just like Immigration.
I know there is a process ongoing for FIRS to collect duty, levies and all, but we still need Customs to man our borders alongside other security outfits just like it is in other ECOWAS countries using the Tariff (CET) system.

This is Not necessary . Another way to loot again.

Instead of them to strategies of how to collect taxes putting it into use and they are coming up with this trash. All these agencies are too big for merger.

Nigeria my country 😢.

I support your argument. As thus move would reduce the problems of multiple taxation thereby positively imparting the ease of doing business.b

To the naysayers, aggressive frontal assault is the only way forward. Capitulate , as President, to those holding Nigeria down and they will smell blood that will encourage them to fight you.

Yari tried this blackmail to be Senate President but failed because Tinubu, unlike when Buhari let Saraki hijack the position, understands that there must be synergy and joint goodwill between all political and administrative forces to gain success for Nigeria.

These agencies can be merged. Progressive elements can be supported and promoted while regressive and 'business as usual' proponents should be relegated or dismissed. Simple as that.

Nigeria is bleeding and a President who will be a Pu.ssy, capitulating to blackmail and gradualist motion, will not succeed.

Implementation of policies is what we should score him for not signing bills or speculating.

As far as I'm concerned he has failed in the area of providing succour to the people.

The hardship of immediate subsidy removal is still biting hard so of what use are all these bills that may not see the light of the day?

loosecanon50:
In my own opinion, anything that will improve the lives of Nigerians and bring progress to all is what the nation needs right now...but merging all these agencies into one body seems a bit overboard to me.

All these agencies have been operating independently before now, you can't just wake up from sleep and say you want to merge them. There'll definitely be conflicts of interest on the long run.

Wawelexy:
This might eventually leads to a power tussles among these organisations just like that of the DSS Vs EFCC, LASTMA and Road Safety etc... Despite knowing each others's duties, one body will still intentionally carryout the duties of the other just because of personal gain and not because of patriotism, and this will always tell on the citizens.... So I think they should just allow them remain a separate body....

Senioreddy:
I really appreciate the fact that barely 48 hours of the inauguration of the economic advisory committee, they've come up with a tentative proposal to ensure growth in revenue generation.

However, I think in my own opinion, merging all these agencies/bodies into one is just too much for a single administrative structure to handle.

This is because, all these agencies are revenue drivers and they are all autonomous and as such merging them into one create a lot of confusion.

Also bearing in mind that this nation is so much endeared in corruption, a sole administrative body handling multiple revenue mobilizing agencies, the level of corruption will be mind blowing.

Lastly the red tapism/bottle necks will associated with all governmental agencies will further be multiplied.

These are just few of my concerns about the proposal. I stand to be corrected though.

A Bold And Ambitious Economic Projection Into The Near Future

It's an ambitious attempt to move Nigeria to somewhere near the middle range Asian counties in terms of GDP. Some of them have exceeded the $1 billion mark, hovering around the $2 billon and $3billion marks. Nigeria, Africa's largest economy, is about $550 billon.

This committee is a double-barreled one- combining both the fiscal and monetary policies. In other words, and like someone has intelligently noted here a few days ago, the committee will be
doing both the work of the CBN and the ministry of finance before Tinubu's cabinet is formed.

Its recommendations are far-reaching. Some of them would jolt some players in these sectors it is recommending for mergers. But in the end, I believe the nation will come out much better economically.

Tinubu's company alpha beta collects revenue on behalf of the Lagos state government, now he is planning to merge national revenue agencies into one to be supervised by his company alpha beta for a certain percentage.

Tinubu is about to suck Nigeria's treasury dry while some Nigerians that can't think or use their brain continue to cheer him ignorantly. He go run una street una eye go clear when he finish...Pablo EscoBAT on the beat.

This economic advisers are clueless about the functions of the mentioned agencies.
NIMASA is not a revenue generation agency but Marine Regulatory Agency ( Local arm of IMO (INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANISATION), Obasanjo only gave them 3 &2% revenue collection to maintain international standards of the IMO.
CUSTOMS AND FIRS are two different agencies all over the world.

The most important is to appoint TRUSTED AND SINCERE Nigerians with good understanding of the functions of the agencies.

Agency like NIMASA is misunderstood to be a revenue generation agency (instead of regulatory), because of the way politician misuses the money meant for staff international training (I don't think 10% of their staff has been to Maritime University, unlike UK here where 100% of staff are graduates of Maritime Universities or obtain MSc from a Maritime University), which maybe responsible for Nigeria classless position in International Maritime Countries.

NIMASA supposed to give international training to Nigerian youths to become international seafarers and be generating foreign currency for Nigeria.

NIMASA supposed to give international training to a unit of NAVAL OFFICERS attached to fight piracy and enforce Safety and Security if our water ways.

NIMASA supposed to used the money to remove ship wrecks from our water ways.

Instead of this responsibilities, politicians are flaunting money.

The only agencies that I may advise merged to NIMASA is NIWA (Local part of NIMASA) and SHIPPERS COUNCIL for training purposes.

"The 90-page document further proposed that reforms in the CBN will help achieve about $50bn-$60bn in external reserves, with a monthly inflow of at least $6bn-$8bn from export earnings and other forms of capital inflow, to support the policy at an exchange rate of N500-N600/$"

The recommendations are good, but dishing out figures without advising how the reforms should be done to arrive at those billions mentioned is attention seeking.

When has these economic advisers appointed, when did they met and such economic fireworks brainstormed?

Or it is a ready made policy?

Tinubu should proscribe produce collectors on Nigeria highways and police extortions, prices of food will come down by 20%, imagine paying 250k for potato and tomato for produce 1truck from Jos to ph, these people re illegal and police re justifying their criminalities by sharing checking points with them, this affect the common man directly , he will buy many to his side with this simple act
