In my own opinion, anything that will improve the lives of Nigerians and bring progress to all is what the nation needs right now...but merging all these agencies into one body seems a bit overboard to me.

All these agencies have been operating independently before now, you can't just wake up from sleep and say you want to merge them. There'll definitely be conflicts of interest on the long run.

But you want then to reduce cost of governance? Some of this agency are just a duplicate of another. Nimasa is doing custom job

Implementation of policies is what we should score him for not signing bills or speculating.

As far as I'm concerned he has failed in the area of providing succour to the people.

The hardship of immediate subsidy removal is still biting hard so of what use are all these bills that may not see the light of the day?

Nigeria is broke . That is the sad reality. We are in a period of severe paucity of funds which means socialist type interventions simply are not options available to Nigeria. Buhari and his cabal have really crippled Nigeria.

I do agree with you that Nigerians need palliative but those will come soon once the Tinubu Government can first arrest how we are literally hemorrhaging billions into private hands, because of the omissions and commission of past governments, that can be deployed to make Nigeria much better.

There is no doubt all Nigerians must brace up and swallow bitter pills for the next 5 to 6 months so we can enter an era of growth, productivity and merit-driven greatness.

Flooding so-called "juicy" parastatals with nepotism (customs, Immigration, EFCC, FIRS etal) must stop to make way for merit-driven efficiency.

A lot to be done but Tinubu's approach, to me, is the correct one. The rot is too entrenched to the extent you may have to tear down the whole building rather and build a great new structure instead of trying to renovate sympathetically only to have a building , built poorly in the first place, collapsing on you at every stage.

This economic advisers are clueless about the functions of the mentioned agencies.
NIMASA is not a revenue generation agency but Marine Regulatory Agency ( Local ARM of IMO INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANISATION), Obasanjo only gave them revenue collection to maintain international standards of the IMO.
CUSTOMS AND FIRS are two different agencies all over the world.
The only thing is to appoint TRUSTED AND SINCERE Nigerians with good understanding of the functions of the agencies.

This might eventually leads to a power tussles among these organisations just like that of the DSS Vs EFCC, LASTMA and Road Safety etc... Despite knowing each others's duties, one body will still intentionally carryout the duties of the other just because of personal gain and not because of patriotism, and this will always tell on the citizens.... So I think they should just allow them remain a separate body....

You obviously miss the point. First the term merger simply means "The act or process of merging two or more parts into a single unit." Thus it states that there won't be two bodies like, DSS & EFCC in your example. The clear example for a merger is like the Nigeria police where you have a department that are assigned for regular crime & those specifically for traffic violators. In that case, both will be classified as police reporting to the IG yet with different functions. This is why you see black & black & what will popularly call yellow fever. Those on Orange coloured shirt grin grin.
Now going by the proposal, the government would only recognize Custom & attached others mentioned as a department, leading to just one oga who gives order.

I really appreciate the fact that barely 48 hours of the inauguration of the economic advisory committee, they've come up with a tentative proposal to ensure growth in revenue generation.

However, I think in my own opinion, merging all these agencies/bodies into one is just too much for a single administrative structure to handle.

This is because, all these agencies are revenue drivers and they are all autonomous and as such merging them into one create a lot of confusion.

Also bearing in mind that this nation is so much endeared in corruption, a sole administrative body handling multiple revenue mobilizing agencies, the level of corruption will be mind blowing.

Lastly the red tapism/bottle necks will associated with all governmental agencies will further be multiplied.

These are just few of my concerns about the proposal. I stand to be corrected though.
Having these agencies under one umbrella will go a long way help the country avoid unnecessary costs and duplication of functions. What we need now as a nation, is to intentionally avoid wastage and put in place structures that will make corruption almost impossible because the country is in Intensive care unit as we speak, so anything that will guarantee progress is welcome.

A Bold And Ambitious Economic Projection Into The Near Future

It's an ambitious attempt to move Nigeria to somewhere near the middle range Asian counties in terms of GDP. Some of them have exceeded the $1 billion mark, hovering around the $2 billon and $3billion marks. Nigeria, Africa's largest economy, is about $550 billon.

This committee is a double-barreled one- combining both the fiscal and monetary policies. In other words, and like someone has intelligently noted here a few days ago, the committee will be
doing both the work of the CBN and the ministry of finance before Tinubu's cabinet is formed.

Its recommendations are far-reaching. Some of them would jolt some players in these sectors it is recommending for mergers. But in the end, I believe the nation will come out much better economically.

"I think" what they're trying to do is to make sure that revenues generated from these agencies are directly going into government's account. Because what is currently in play is that these agencies generate revenues and then remit to government account which gives room for so much stealing and siphoning of funds.

That's what I understand from the whole merger. I may be wrong though.

I supported 99% of what is written up there… let them merge them and mind u, they’ve not merging there operations but to be under one revenue agency as they’re all bringing in income.
Plus I support the fact that they should sell some govt assets for liquidity with an option of buy back. The money will be used to build the country and help us instead of paying humongous amount of money in servicing and maintaining the dormant assets.
The currency swap too is very okay, nobody will feel it but with time will get the results.
These are to mention a few.
Give it to that man PBAT he’s a genius, all the advisers has nothing to do with politics or being a politician… and he carefully choose the best hands from all the major regions.
