I cant be specific on that, but most of the New immigrant here on Nairaland that I know got their first job within 1 to 3 months including myself. Depending on which State you are heading to, you have to apply and wait for your SSC which may take 1-3 weeks before you can begin a job search. On the issue of "pocket money" hold as much as much as you can but anything above $10,000 needs to be declared.

To God's glory i successfully arrived in Houston TX some days ago. Everything seems so strange to me and i am having serious get lag.
Please i really need your ideas on how to go about some issues
1. How do i get health insurance and which one is most accommodating
2. I went to apply for my ssn and was told that i should with for 14 working days incase the immigration service at the POE had already applied on my behalf. Anyone encountered this same issue?
3. What can i do here with a Bsc in Human Anatomy? Can i find a work or shud I go back to school? Which school and what course can i enrol in on order to get a lucrative job.
4. My host is charging $500 per month on my stay. With your experience, is it a fair deal?
5. Any other thing i should know about pls?

Please my brothers and sisters I will really appreciate your ideas and suggestions. God bless you for your concern

All that depends on the time u got ur SSN, and how smart u are to search for jobs, also if ur host is a cooperating one, i think he or she will help u do many things like directing u on how to get alone , here u will required some training before u can get a job but it also still depends on how lucky u are because u might stil get a job without any training.for money hold as much as possible but it should not exceed $10,000 because will declare .must job here needs a driver's license and a car but the license it must important if u can get a driving license before coming here it will ease u very much to obtain a driver's license here because u just need to do the computer test and after that u go for driving test and have ur license which will help u get a good job.

yes the co is right but if the credit card u are using there and ATM is not going through u can come and do it here, but i believe ur host can help u pay it here in state that will be very nice before u coming , because u can only pay it online.it is actually good to pay it while being at home but if u cannot ,u can come and do it here, there is no problem with that ,i do mind here dear, but however that will only be if u cannot pay it at home.

Thank you my brother for the reply. I have been having serious cramps since my arrival and it has refused to yeild to common pain reliever, instead is getting intense, that's why i wanted to get an idea of what getting a health insurance here is all about.

Your cramps may be caused by wind pain. I suggest you eat hot food or for now drink hot tea...as much, as fast and hot as you can...you should belch and cramps end immediately.

This is @Leripa reporting live and direct from New Jersey. Our flight from Lagos via Dubai to New York was a smooth and a fun-filled one. We departed Lagos on 25th Sept., via Emirates, had a few minutes stop over in Dubai and finally left for New York. It was a smooth experience especially with the feelings that you are travelling on an A380-800 airbus....lolz
So far so good, it's been nice and cool since we got here. I have been busy with settling down completely and some other stuffs and i must say that the experience has been very good and stress-free.
However, America is truly a land of opportunities if you have access to the right information at the right time and you are with the right people. It is my prayer that it shall be well with us all and we'll never regret our sojourn here in the name of Jesus.

Check your boarding pass, the airline always give 25kgX2 bags I guess.

When you get to the POE ie ur airport of arrival tell the border and immigration officers there that ur host's address has changed, it will be updated and ur greencard will be mailed to ur new address. Ur address can always be changed @ the poe but get them notified.

A piece of advice for new immigrants.
We are 9 months old here in United States of America and i can tell you guys that God has been very good to us.
Dont ever you loose your focus.Here in United States,you can start small and become exceptionally great within a twinkle of an eye without robbing people.
Be very mindful of your confession.Even in difficult times learn to say positive things to yourself.
Be mindful of people you discuss your plans with.Here in US,there are a lot of dream killers.They aint going anywhere and will do all within their powers to discourage people.
As for me and family this land will favor us IJN.
After 7 months of desperately looking for jobs,over 40 different interviews i just got a lucrative job (Audit Job).
I will be based here in Baltimore,MD but i will travel to 4 different continents for my assignments.

New immigrants,your story can be different,please don't loose hope.I started as a Residential Program Technician (Direct Care) with Chimes Inc but now levels don change finally by Gods grace.
