i am still here.

Thank you for remaining here. Now crown it for us with some discussion of your experience or persuasion of the issue on hand. smiley

I still believe it will be a better idea to bring the Bible at the very beginning. For all we know people interpret the word differently, and that difference is the reason we have so many factions in Christianity today. We all disagree to agree.
Introducing it at the end subjects us to your own interpretation of things like you are the grand authority in religious affairs. I don't see how anyone is likely to let what we discuss here affect their life if we can't dissect he scriptures alongside the secular topics.

A propose a change seriously. It's Christian-Secular-Bible talk. Let's include the last part.

Thanks, @UjSizzle, for posting the passage. Guys, the discussion is open o. You can go on to share your views even while you share you grievances, concerns and suggestions for the exercise.

For the Nigerians among us, we know how crazy life is for us here generally. Still-high levels of poverty, a quarter of the population unemployed, persistent issues of insecurity, the still-brazen sway of corruption, poor infrastructure (even though some authorities think the situation is actually getting better) and many more issues make us apt to question the government and spark revolutions and whatnot. But is that the right way to solve the problem?

The Arab Spring is in its dying throes now but where are Lybia, Egypt, Syria? Revolutions have succeeded in the past - the Lybian government that was overthrown was the product of a powerful revolution that led that nation into a time of great prosperity...and censure. The United States of America was born out of a struggle for self-actualization when a king thought he could crush anyone he wanted however he wanted. And many more stories.

What are the questions here that we should be asking? How should anyone deal with the excesses and whatever of the government or any other sort of authority that rules over them? What should we do with Goodluck Jonathan and anything we find wrong with him? Obama? David Cameron? Our parents, for the young ones among us still living with their parents? Our pastors and elders in the church? Our bosses? Anyone who has any kind of authority over us including husbands too?

What has been your experience? What do you think? Please share.

It is very necessary that I address the part about being grand authority in religious affairs.

Let us make no mistake about this: what we are doing here will amount to nothing but a lot of judgment piled up against us for the Day of Judgment if we do not do it properly. This is because our Lord Jesus told us that every idle word that we speak will rise in judgment against us. We are not to handle the Word of Christ unworthily and this exercise is one that is all about the Word of Christ.

Wherever any spiritual value will be had there will be authority insituted to receive it from the Source and communicate it to the people for whom it is meant. There cannot but be. The Church is the Church because it has a Head, the Lord Christ Himself. Visible gatherings of believers, whether physical or remote (as here on Nairaland) will not be a spiritual unit or force under God's Eye or which counts for anything with the enemy, that is, they are not even a representation of the spiritual Body of Christ unless there is authority appointed to them. In the days of the apostles, a group of disciples only became a church when they had leaders set over them.

This exercise will mean nothing if there is nobody responsible for it before God and who must defend it against the devourer and accuser. There will be a '"grand" authority of religious affairs' here if there will be any value at all in the associations here. This is borne out in the Scriptures in every way. The Church, according to Paul is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets and we have "bishops" or "angels" whose job it is to feed God's children and attend to them. Where there are no caretakers, there is no church.

Now, anybody here could be the authority. It need not be me. I personally have cause to say to God that I should not wash the feet of His children. I know where I have been and what accusations the enemy has made against me. I have taken responsibility here because I have grace to do so. Let me assure you that it is not blindly done. James 3:1 says unequivocally that we should not all desire to be teachers or leaders in the church because such people face or risk a greater condemnation. It is not a mean thing at all to mislead the children of the Most High. Lord Jesus, the King of the ends of the earth before Whose Authority every other authority succumbs, said that if any man should cause one of His little ones to offend it would be better for him that a millstone was tied to his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

I would almost gladly run from such frightening warnings especially in view of my weakness but who else wants the job? I personally have been brought through hard paths and I have been given grace thus, shall I hoard it? I cannot, not even if I wanted to.

I understand how hard it is to submit to another's authority and I do not consider submission my demand to make of anyone here. All I am doing is ensuring that God's Word is the final word for us. What I want is that when any of us has to face some challenge in the real world that they are not weak and ill-prepared for it, that they can stand in the day of trouble and hold their ground. It is yours to decide to walk with me or to refuse. But if you do decide to make me responsible for you, I will need your prayer to stand for you.

Again, please hear me, where there is strife and confusion, there is no fruit. We cannot stand in the day of battle if we do not know our own weapons. We cannot spend all this time throwing interpretations and counter-interpretations left and right. There must be one note to which we may tune our various instruments.

@UjSizzle, it is allowed and even encouraged that any participant in the discussions raise Scriptures that they think are useful in understanding and dealing properly with any matter under discussion. But no topic will actually be about any particular Scripture. The discussions will always be about particular topics of the day that we discuss in the light of the Bible.
