Pat Utomi is a good guy But he can't win. Why? He's too honest. He's an academician and stuff like that automatically disqualify you in a place like this. |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Tonyblu(m): 3:31pm On Feb 22, 2007 |
mactao: What if a "PLACE LIKE THIS" changes? A PLACE LIKE THIS has kept us like this for 8 years! U & I; ALL OF US can change a PLACE LIKE THIS to what it should be; by VOTING a "GOOD GUY" into power, so that we don't continue having a PLACE LIKE THIS forever, for our children . . .! Your vote, my vote , his vote, her vote, for a GOOD GUY can NEVER go wrong! Unless if we want to remain in a PLACE LIKE THIS for the next 4 + x YEARS, (where x is unknown). VOTE WISELY!!! |

Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by debosky(m): 8:08pm On Feb 22, 2007 |
He is not a well-known candidate, he will lose in the rural areas all over Nigeria, Nigerians do not know him enough to elect him. His is a pie-in-the-sky aspiration. Good man though, I would appoint him head of the economic mgt team for Yar'Adua |

@Kennis @illiest @dblock @debosky @50kobo @Gamine @mactao Since you are all sure UTOMI is the RIGHT guy, JUST cast your vote for him. We should also try to "PROTECT" our votes at the polling units/booths, by being vigilant. It is not right for the bad guys to always emerge with their crooked ways! Y'all have been making good comments about him, GIVE HIM YOUR VOTES then. It's that simple! |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by donnymikky(m): 11:18am On Feb 23, 2007 |
I once Traveled with him on a plane to abuja, Gemine you are right. The man is very humble. I also traveled with him on a bus from Enugu to Umuahia. We sat together at the front and believe me, I never knew it was Pat Utomi till we were stoped by some Mobile Police men near Umuahia. Really this is politics and it's obvious he may not win this election because of the complexity of the nigerian political structure. Dont worry, i strongly believe he has a better chance in the future. |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by monkeyleg: 11:47am On Feb 23, 2007 |
Guys, the fact of the matter is not if we think Pat would win, more if you are all dying for a change. Now if the Latter is your conviction then my appeal would be for everyone who genuinely wants a change to vote for a change. And quite frankly the sort of change anyone should be advocation in Nigeria right now is the sort of change a man like Pat can bring to the Party. I heard his reply to the question about him being relatively new to the political scene, and the man answered the way I felt. Nigeria right now need a fresh pair of eyes to look at our problems. TonyBlu, is there a way we can get more people involved in this debate / vision? I think this issue right now is getting far bigger than this forum. It we need to get people excited about the infinite possibilities that available with Pat, then it is my opinion that we got to go far beyond this forum. I strongly believe Nigerians have suffered a lot, and the time for a change is now. God Bless Nigeria and us all |

Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by monkeyleg: 8:03pm On Feb 23, 2007 |
Gamine, Just out of curiosity, why did you not register? For those who by choice did not register, I hope you all realise that you have given up your right to complain about the state of our great nation. For those who do not believe thier votes would count, you might just be surprised. The fight somethings is not easy, but that is what makes the victory very sweet. Hey I was just thinking that in this wonderful period of digital technology, it would be easy to capture the whole election on mobile phone cameras, that way the opposition would think twice before rigging. The evidence would be there, and that way the govt would find it hard to deny that the elections were free and fair. I just have this feeling that it is not going to be business as usual. For all those that believe we need a change, please stay strong, and vote for that change. God Bless us all |

Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Orikinla(m): 11:36am On Feb 24, 2007 |
The future belongs to those who think. Nigeria in the future is going to belong to people of ideas, people who think, people who read. So, anybody who is not preparing himself to be in one of these groups of people would have no place in the future in the country. ~ Prof. Pat Utomi August 22, 2006. Abba Babbi sighed as he finished reading the article on the erudite Nigerian scholar and technocrat Dr. Pat Utomi in the Daily Sun. He always admired Dr. Utomi. But he was disappointed when he couldn’t save the Volkswagen of Nigeria from collapsing. He was the Deputy Managing Director and they must have employed him to use his Midas touch on the Volkswagen Assembly Plant. But his Midas touch had no positive effect on Volkswagen Nigeria. Abba always referred to this minus in the outstanding life of Dr. Utomi, because the collapse of Volkswagen cost his cousin his job and hundreds of other employees lost their jobs and were scattered all over the place in search of other means of survival and welfare. That was over fifteen years ago. And Dr. Utomi has gone ahead to manage other successful ventures and began the laudable Lagos Business School that has now developed into the Pan African University (PAU). And it was on the campus of PAU that Abba met Ronke. He put the newspaper aside and went into the bedroom to sleep. (From The Shocking News, a short story.) Our TV/Film production company produced the campaign promotions of Pat Utomi showing on TV, but the reality is, to vote for him is a wasted ballot. Pat Utomi is the ideal Nigerian Dream and we believe in this dream. But the dream will only come true after these nightmares. And these nightmares will not end at the April polls. |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by monkeyleg: 5:55pm On Feb 24, 2007 |
In my opinion, there is never such a thing as a wasted vote. The way I see it is you vote for what you believe in. The truth about life is that good things never come cheap, neither do they come at the first time of asking. Like I have always said. No one is going to change things for Nigerian, we have to do it ourselves, and if we believe that the time for change is now, then we should all do something about it, or I am afraid it is another 4/8yrs of no light, water, security, schools, hospitals, jobs, and down right suffering. So if Nigerians are comfortable with the status quo then I guess the answer in not to vote all. WE have to go and look at how other countries that have had change have done it. Change never came from believing that it would never happen. Look at Georgia and South Africa to name but a few. God help us all |

To be candid, it is very dificult to say who precisely among those that are parading themselves as Presidential hopefuls in Nigeria really worth it! As the case stand however, I guess Pat Utomi stand a better chance of being a good President based on his antecedent! |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Afam(m): 6:41pm On Mar 02, 2007 |
Nuruoye: Can you please state one or two things he has done in the past that makes you think he stands a better chance? To begin with, any southerner that is vying for the presidency today is merely wasting time, no wonder all the major political parties practically zoned the presidency to the North. So, for an Utomi that does not even understand the power equation in Nigeria today, wanting to become president, it shows that he does not even understand Nigeria well. |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Icon(m): 11:54pm On Mar 02, 2007 |
Afam:Well, those who understand Nigeria well are those who understand how to chop Nigeria's money and cover their tracks by putting in candidates who'll be like them. Is that what we want? It won't happen again. |

Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Afam(m): 9:35am On Mar 03, 2007 |
Icon: Understanding Nigeria here has nothing to do with corruption, it is about the issue of power shift, rotational presidency but ofcourse when people don't understand the issues the surest route to follow is make ridiculous accusations that are baseless. For the interest of a stable Nigeria power needs to rotate between the South and the North until we are able to sit down and sort out all grey areas if we must remain one nation. That someone is oblivous of this serious issue and is talking about presidency is enough to know that the person will be a disaster because it seems the issue now is personal or selfish as againt National. What won't happen again? Vote a Northerner this time or what? Mark it down, no Southerner will win the presidential election in April even in a free and fair election so stop day dreaming and face reality. |

So, for an Utomi that does not even understand the power equation in Nigeria today, wanting to become president, it shows that he does not even understand Nigeria well. Not only presumptuous and shallow also disappointing! So because certain people see it fit that the destiny of 180 million people is theirs to do as fit must we look back arms akimbo and pray that some form of miracle would just happen to liberate us? Perhaps some mafia of some sort may deem it that power belongs to them, but wasn't it a sage that said the man dies in him who keeps quiet in the face of tyranny? Utomi has the pedigree to run as president more than any other pretender to Aso Rock, and it's a pity that the so called power rotation you seem to espouse with much relish should go to the S/S OR S/E as the case may be for equity and fairplay. We all seem to forget this and if we were to have rational leaders and honest Nigerians the elect elections would be about issues not some random guy being sold to Nigerians as capable of leading us. Utomi might not win,but the consciousness he's elicited by this run for presidency shows that negativism and pessimism which seem to be the hallmark of certain people would always be rubbished.Change starts with a single effort and as the Chinese say the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. One day,the gross idea that power belongs to a cabal would be confined to the waste-bins of history |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Afam(m): 4:25pm On Mar 04, 2007 |
lewa: The statement might be shallow and disappointing to you because you have failed to face reality. Are you in bondage that you need anyone to liberate you? I do not ascribe to the idea that power belongs to a cabal. lewa: What pedigree? State what makes him outstanding or most suited for the job. I raised the same issue of rotational presidency meaning North and South as against the 6 geopolitical zones with a former presidential aspirant in my office and my take is this: Rotational presidency cannot work if you are looking at the 6 zones as you stated because it means that power can and will most likely be retained by the South or the North for a possible 24 years (2 terms each for the 3 zones in either South or North). However, it seems that your emotions may have taken over a greater part of you so discussing this issue based on its merits and demerits may not work. lewa: Only very very few believe that power belongs to a cabal and I do not believe in so neither should such thinking make sense to begin with. |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Icon(m): 7:53pm On Mar 04, 2007 |
@Afam, I'll not debate the other issues you've brought up but I'm suprised that you keep on bringing up rotational presidency. There is nothing that makes the presidency a birthright for certain tribe. All the hype about he has to be from the north or from the south, or about Igbo people stepping down to make sure there's only one igbo candidate is all rubbish. It's not about what part of the country a person is from, It's about whether he can deliver. After all, Donald Duke is from Cross River which can't really be classified among any of the 3 major tribes and had he contested, there are good chances he would have won. Personally I don't care about what part of a country he is from. A man of the people will strive to make things better and allow this country to achieve it's full potential. He could be from anywhere, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba , I couldn't care less. We've had notherners as heads of state who have done nothing, we've had yorubas who messed up big time. It's time we put all that aside and start thinking about a man of the people. |
Re: Pat Utomi For President In 2007? by Bankole01(m): 11:29pm On Mar 04, 2007 |
It would be nice if we can just elect anyone from Nigeria, no matter his/her sectional background. The truth of the matter is Nigeria has not developed politically or democratically enough for any one man to carry the vote based on merit alone. Nigeria does need the rotational presidency for peace to reign supreme. I admit that it limits the quality of electable candidates, it is simply the fact of the land. The American presidency have come from the South on the last two administrations without the North going to war, the fact they are more advanced, cohesive and more homogeneous than we are. I have to concur with Afam that no Southerner can win the election in this dispensation. The North in the last elections, made sure that the two contending candidates of Falae and Obassanjo were both Yoruba men to atone for the sin of June 12. The presidency needs to rotate to the North and I vote for Buhari, the most honest of the lot. |

The statement might be shallow and disappointing to you because you have failed to face reality. Are you in bondage that you need anyone to liberate you?Haw!So the problems of kleptocracy, underdevelopment, lack of potable water, high unemployment, galloping inflation all in the guise of the end result of mis rule cannot be ascribed to as bondage under a bandwagon of bandits, murderers and other akin wayfarers? You bros wallow in abject callowness! What pedigree? State what makes him outstanding or most suited for the jobMr!Go read up on Pat. His achievements and personae dwarf that of anyone aspiring to Aso Rock.Don't go naive here!. raised the same issue of rotational presidency meaning North and South as against the 6 geopolitical zones with a former presidential aspirant in my office and my take is this: Rotational presidency cannot work if you are looking at the 6 zones as you stated because it means that power can and will most likely be retained by the South or the North for a possible 24 years (2 terms each for the 3 zones in either South or North).Good for you and your nameless politician! So who says power can't be rotated amongst 6 geo-political zones? What are the demerits? What you espouse is just lame. Nigeria is a peculiar country with unusual demographies. If the center is weak in a federal system that can work if the constitution is amended. The presidential system concentrates so much power in one individual and this is not right.A loose center, regional control of resources would be helpful to douse the simmering tensions in Nigeria. The issue transcends North or South, but rather that every one ought to have a shot at the highest office for equity. It's rather sad that as a people,we have no constitution we have agreed to but rather some document drawn by the military to guide us. Those that love the status quo would never ascribe to changing the constitution to make way for progress.Rotational doesn't mean that a region must be in power for two/three terms.Your premise once again is faulty here. However, it seems that your emotions may have taken over a greater part of you so discussing this issue based on its merits and demerits may not work.Au contraire!Mr! Only very very few believe that power belongs to a cabal and I do not believe in so neither should such thinking make sense to begin with.Interesting! The same people got rid of the dark goggled guy and Aare Kakanfo, put up OBJ and want it back. Where do you live-K Pax? |
