un·beat·en (n-btn)
adj.
1. Not defeated: an unbeaten football team.
2. Not traversed before; untrodden: an unbeaten path through jungle growth.
3. Not beaten or pounded, as in cooking: unbeaten eggs.

So what is your query with the statement? Were Arsenal defeated in those 5 / 6 matches out of the first 7 played in those seasons?

Or are you going to throw the question aside and attack me on grammar?  grin

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by debosky(m): 10:35pm On Sep 30, 2007
@ medube

The unbeaten stats really do not mean that much - how many points did we have at the similar position in the last couple of seasons?

We have only drawn one game so far, and that was due to a gk blunder. the goals statistic y'all are talking about. . .not very important either.

At this stage last season, MU had scored a truuckload of goals, 4-0 victories were common. Now is the fact that they are winning 1-0 this season an indication they will not win the Premiership this season? NO

The issue here is the consistency and the manner of the victories - they point to a paradigm shift in Arsenal's performance. If sustained, we may begin to talk about winning the premiership at a later point in the season.

As far as I'm concerned, it is too early to make ANY definitive conclusions about this season's outcomes. This constant reference to the previous seasons is getting tiresome. If that was simply the basis, then comparing our performance in early season to last year, we are winning the premiership - the same thing y'all are saying is impossible.

Was there any forewarning that we were going to go unbeaten in 03/04? NO

Of the Arsenal African players - only Kolo and Ade will be missed, the rest are not playing regularly, and we have ample replacements for them. The team going to suffer most is Chelski - their most proficient performers will be missing - Drogba and Essien, and to a lesser extent Kalou and Obi.

You and Jackal need to cool it and wait to see what happens. . .

@daftritchboi

Pls point out to me where I said unbeaten in 1st 6 games? This is what I said slowpoke :

medube:

2004-2005 Unbeaten in 7 and ended up second
2005-2006 Unbeaten in 5 and lost 2 ended up fourth
2006-2007 Unbeaten in 6 and lost 1 ended up fourth

So who's spewing garbage? If you dont have a valid point to argue, save us the pages and shut up!
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by medube(m): 10:41pm On Sep 30, 2007
@debosky thank you for that valid point.

This is what I have been saying since, that even as things stand, it is too early to say anything because anything can happen.

But now, here, you are talking very different than most. Some have concluded that Arsenal have won the league already with what is on ground. Perhaps those are the yesterday fans who just keep jumping from team to team depending on who's leading?  grin

Oh and before I forget, some are also here trying to turn the English statement to another meaning just to avoid the question  grin

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by debosky(m): 11:01pm On Sep 30, 2007
there are undoubtedly many juvenile fans here who are both highly excitable as well as being neophytes in football issues.

those fair weather fans will jump on the nearest successful bandwagon each week as the wind changes direction.

I can't wait to see what will happen by the end of the season, or at least mid-March to make any predictions.

Correct!

@ritchboi

Question:

Following the statistics for Arsenal's first 7 games in the last 3 seasons;

2004-2005 Unbeaten in 7 and ended up second
2005-2006 Unbeaten in 5 and lost 2 ended up fourth
2006-2007 Unbeaten in 6 and lost 1 ended up fourth

What makes you guys so happy and feel this year is any different?

Afterall, the stats show your world begins to crumble as the league goes further. This is when you guys should be praying and not celebrating

You can come up with any defense asking me, what has Chelsea done compared to their last 3 seasons? Agreed, I have accepted the fact that the season is not starting good and may not end up good for us, but have you accepted the reality that you might just make it a treble and end up fourth again?
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by McOmo(m): 11:08pm On Sep 30, 2007
is this anoda Arsenal thread ? Arsenal dis Wenger dat . . .grammar as per unbeaten/won matches sef dey cause ruckus !

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by ritchboi: 11:20pm On Sep 30, 2007
'folowin d statistics of arsenal in their FIRST 7 games in the last 3 seasons'.'unbeaten in 5 and lost 2'-arent u d 1 who said dat?So now explain 2 me how arsenal were 'unbeaten' in their 'first' 5 matches in 05/06 wen they 'lost 2' ?
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by medube(m): 11:26pm On Sep 30, 2007
While we wait for debosky or anyone else to help correct me, if needed, I will explain to you what it means. It means in their first 7 games, they were undefeated in 5 and lost 2. I never stated the order of wins, draws or losses, so I don't know why you are reading another meaning  grin But, considering I have explained to you now, go ahead and challenge the post and not the English  grin
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by ritchboi: 11:37pm On Sep 30, 2007
i now c wat u mean,but ur not suposed 2 use d term 'unbeaten' 4 a single match.its like sayin 'chelsea r unbeaten in their game against fulham'. 'unbeaten' shud b used 4 succesive games.
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by debosky(m): 11:39pm On Sep 30, 2007
i didn't want to get into this but i'll make a clarification

unbeaten - either a victory or a draw

unbeaten run - a consecutive number of games ending in either a draw or a victory

cheers wink
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by medube(m): 11:44pm On Sep 30, 2007
@debosky thank you.   smiley

@ritchboi, I believe he has made it as clear as possible. And yes we can say Chelsea were unbeaten at home against Fulham, thats why our record has now gone to 67 unbeaten home matches grin
Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by McOmo(m): 11:56pm On Sep 30, 2007

Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by RuuDie(m): 4:11pm On Oct 02, 2007
Kusczawhatever his name is confirmed's g'onna be in goal, Owen's in training and looks likely to feature but i guess they'll just have to patch up Vidic and manage else we would be looking at Pique/O'shea coming in. . . . far from cheery a th'ot but i'm sure we can still eke out the 3 pts at stake!

Thank U SAF . . . . . .
Thanx for listening to ma cries over RYAN GIGGS.
He should be condemned to the bench to READ THE GAME like SOLSKJAER does and can come in to add VALUE to a match.
TEVEZ and GIGGS drop to the bench.
