omotalkie: Eehyah I'm sorry for your likes...your "I too know" will deprive you the benefit of a good consult...I bet you didn't volunteer to bring the "Almighty Consultants" notice to the prescription as to why he made that prescription cos your sole motive was to ridicule the doctor borne of your deep-seated esteem issues..a nurse changed my prescription for a child I was managing with meningitis without my knowledge...she had the audacity to come and meet me again to say the child wasn't responding to the medication I prescribed and I was almost feeling like a fool...twas when I perused the drug chart I found out she had been giving the dose of a newborn baby to a 5year old boy..how on earth will it work!!!...when I challenged her as to why she did that she said that was the dose one "Dr Lagbaja" uses when he's around(perhaps the dose he gives to newborn babies so she was used to that)..there is what is called decision-making in Medicine which is too far your likes to understand..my friend you should be sorry for your bunch...you're all death-traps... 1 Like |

Only 50,000(fifty thousand)registered doctors in Nigeria to see 180m Nigerians. Completely endangered species...protect them. Anyway there's a thin line between love and hate....think deep |

inimes: The battle for superiority is not going to help the Health Sector. Doctors see themselves as superiors, and sometimes out of selfishness despise the other medical and health professionals. They allow pride and selfishness to make them forget that the Health Service System is all about team work and dependence on one another. They cannot claim monopoly of knowledge because they administer treatment on patients. Nigerians should be ready for more debilitating industrial actions if this impasse is not resolved immediately. Other medical and health workers were running the various health facilities and hospitals while the Doctors were on strike. Only major surgeries were not performed since the Law does not permit it. Let harmony and cordiality be entrenched in the Health System to enhance service delivery. Let the Practitioners in the Sector uphold the ethics of their various fields, which all aim at saving human lives by engaging in the best professional practices. Embarking on strikes always does not help, especially when such strikes are driven by selfish interests and not public interests. Doctors must stop going against the interests of the other medical and health professionals in the interest of harmony and service delivery.wat actually are u spewing bro? |

Patronage is from doctors referral of private patients needing private touch. >> This does make sense considering their peculiar society. Abraham2013: With all sincerity, I believe that whoever does residency in a particular specialty should be appointed a consultant. Physiotherapists stand a very high chance of becoming consultants who would be useful in health care practice. Very very useful. But, what will be the role of consultant nurses, lab scientists and pharmacists? From my research, consultant nurses and pharmacists in US and other advanced countries don't work in hospitals. They work in places like psychiatric and geriatric homes. Their working in hospitals will cause a lot of confusion, as it happened in a teaching hospital where a consultant pharmacist went inside a ward and started cancelling prescriptions made by a consultant cardiologist. If other health workers will develop their post graduate colleges and start residency, then they can be appointed consultants when they become specialists, but not based on years of service. In that case, they will be willing to face the risk of losing their jobs and applying afresh as consultants, in which they may or may not be employed. Also, the onus lies on each hospital to determine how many consultants it will need. Believe me, most hospitals in Nigeria won't need consultant nurses and pharmacists, cos they have very little extra to impart in the health care as consultants, compared to how much their salaries will be. JOHESU is an amorphous body. They should come and fight as individual professional groups. What applies to physiotherapists may not apply to nurses. Consultant physiotherapist makes sense, but not consultant nurse. There is also no need for consultant radiographers and optometrists when consultant radiologists and ophthalmologists are available. What value will the consultant radiographers and optometrists impart that the radiologist and ophthalmologist can't? It will bring anarchy in health care practice. What will consultant lab scientists do in the labs? Even abroad, they mostly don't work in hospitals, but just consult in different facilities just like consultants in other disciplines generally. I just pray the government will handle this issue maturely and bring a lasting solution to this chaos. God bless us all. |

omotalkie: Wow! I just hv to respond to this. 1. Augmentin is that same amoxicillin you were referring to, just enhanced with clavulanic acid. It is a category A drug, safe in pregnancy, and more effective than amoxicillin alone. What we can take home from this is that you have cheated your sister. 2. Proguanil (Paludrine) is no longer recommended for treatment of malaria, it is rather used for preventing malaria in high risk patients, drug of choice is quinine, however, Artesunate has not been found to be harmful to pregnant animals, as such can be used in malaria in pregnancy. Our take home lesson from this also is that you didn't allow your sister treat malaria effectively, placing her at risk of many complications of malaria including preterm labor, the very thing you were trying to avoid. In conclusion, I would advise you to always seek wise counsel from people of knowledge (in this case doctors) whenever you are confused. Thanks 4 Likes |
