RuuDie:

what could be the possible cause of this (*see attached picture below*) - when folder icon is right-clicked in win-explorer, where do those two extra items on the context menu (*circled in red*) come from

Very strange and to be sincere, I have never come across this.

By the looks of the picture seems E and P are drive letters attributed

to a device attached to your computer e.g. external hardware or a pen drive

Here's your diagnostics,  check to make sure nothing attached to your computer

if there is disconnect them and see what happen. I would also suggest doing

system restore to roll back the computer to an earlier time when the problem started.

If in doubts use google to find out how to use system restore

Like the previous tec has said. could be a virus and try scanning.

Click start > Run > type in MRT and press enter

follow on screen instruction in scanning the system for files

such as win/dir . Good luck and thanks for enquiring.

am having a prob with a compaq nx6325 laptop running windows xp, when i power it, it boots up to the logon page, immediately after entering the password, it logs off and then returns to the logon page again, its been kind of a cycle, i need help with this. thank you.

@deji, av tried what u offered initially on the thread, the laptop did not go off suggesting its not a hardware prob. expecting help soon. Thanks

@bijelee that sopunds like the sort of thing i could do on someone's pc just for laughs;
it seems that on logon something is causing your windows to logoff again; unfortunately i am not sure of what exactly
when windows is starting press f8 to go into safe mode and see if you can log in from there;
if so the easiest way will be to create a new user with the same privileges as your present, copy all your files (in my documents and desktop) into the new user's documents and delete the old user (not the most efficient but it'll probably save a lot of back and forth)
another way will be to go thru msconfig and disable most of the programs that start automatically (unfortunately i'm not typing
from windows so i can't tell you which tab to look at) or if you're techie enough you could go through regedit

@blackweaver
It doesn't logon from safe made, it simply returns to the normal logon page. since i can't logon at the moment, evrything other thing is impossible. Am still exploring other means, i hope formatting won't be the last resort. Thanks
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by blackweaver(m): 10:47pm On Jan 02, 2010
wow sorry to hear that; do you have any other user account? if so can u logon with that?
if not then it's probably a system wide problem; i'm not sure i can figure that out
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by folabuntu: 11:06pm On Jan 02, 2010
ok, shut down loop, u have something malicious doing that.

lets see, ok try doing the logon hack, though for the life of me i cant rmbr wat it was, someting like ctrl alt backspace 3 times or something like that. u know naw that trick we use to get into pple pc.

my windows intel is really beginning to leave me

if that doesnt logon, try one of those cd or flash based malware scanner thingy.

if that doesnt work or u cant do that, then u may have to go drastic, a livecd would have been lovely so u get to look at ur windows system files and delete rogues, alternatively put in ur os cd, start an install but instead of formatting, install in the same folder and choose the delete the old os files option. that way u get ur files intact in a folder and probably ur settings too if u know hw to replace them manually.

thats the issue with windows installs adequate recovery options are pretty limited and i dont know many pple with DOS skills.

thanks guys, i will try all you've said n keep u posted.
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by blackweaver(m): 12:05am On Jan 04, 2010
mr bjelee, u may have to do a repair (not necessarily a format) also on googling ur problem i saw this link:
http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/winxp-logs-off-as-soon-as-i-log-in/106983.html
perhaps it will fix your problem (moderator i hope this is allowed, it's just a link to a site where they discussed the same issue)
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by 4llerbuntu(m): 4:11am On Jan 04, 2010
ok so basically what weaver is saying is boot up a xp cd, choose the recovery console option, it will take you into cmd prompt, type the following

"copy c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe c:\windows\system32\wsaupdater.exe"

then reboot!

yawn, and they say linux users are geeks, cmd line wahala bla bla. tseew grin grin grin

guu if u cant do that or it doesnt work, use the repair xp option or the one i mentioned earlier. all na same.

weaver, U ARE A NERD!!!! simple!!! grin grin

download glary utilities or advanced windows care

both have context menu tweak utilities

access these - i think you should be able to resolve it from there

Hi pls my windows gurus, this is what i get whilst trying 2 install sonyericsson pc suite on a pc. After that sign, d installation rolls back. Other wares install by the way and that particular ware also does on another system. Os is xp

I don't know what you tried. would be helpful if you can quote.

Below is the notebook in question. isn't it ?

I'm guessing I ask you to restart pressing F10 or F1 for Bios. when

there use your arrow key to go down to Diagnostic then hard drive test

If this utility is not included. Then don't bother. check to make sure no

damages to the USB ports and your DC port, where your charger goes into.

If you manage to get to Bios then leave it there for 30 minutes if logff there

then is a hardware problem. How old is your machine ? visit the Manu website

for know issues/firmware update. could be RAM not seated properly or is not

up to 512MB of memory, which is windows XP minimum requirement.

if no joy then take it to a technician. As we are 1st point of contact not much

we can do here as I and others don't recommend disassembling your laptop without

prior training or pre-requisite. Static electricity can kill your components.

You can do so if you wish. Is entirely up to you. Below is the notebook in question. isn't it ?

Just a thought after I posted this. could it be a Bios or Windows password ?

Some machine may logoff if Bios password incorrectly entered 3 times. Please find pic after laptop

Good luck and thanks for enquiring.

Err Compressor Or u mean processor?

U knw wat, y not plug in an external monitor and see if it displays. Besides dt processor burn cant be so easy! Or u had a power surge?

I once had a laptop dt didnt light up, i opened it up and went at .it with a multimeter, found a dead fuse and watsitcalled (small white fuse like component) i put in a copper strand n voila.

Inshort, maybe u shld just give a COMPETENT tech
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by blackweaver(m): 9:20am On Jan 06, 2010
olabode when u put on your laptop do you hear any sound like a fan turning or something
if so i don't think it's your processor that's faulty
blinking light like that is probably a memory problem; either way you will have
to take your laptop to a tech savvy person but i doubt it's the processor; if you have a friend you trust
you could get him/her to remove and reinsert your ram; see if that works otherwise u may have to buy
another 1gb ddr2 costs about 4-5k
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by OlabodeAjala(m): 1:18pm On Jan 06, 2010

we are'nt techs!! at least am not!!!!

i dunno abt weaver but last time i checked he didnt tell me he was into that anyway, abi weaver don add to repertoire and CV? grin grin grin

anyway, am pretty sure that there should be someone competent in ilorin!! havent been there in 9 yrs but i do hope the place has moved on and up from those agrarian days!!!! dry town!!

u know poppin a ram aint a big deal if thats whats wrong with it. if u coming to lagos, well i dunno o!, Comp Villa for a JJC is like swimming amongst sharks!! put up an AD for a tech in ilorin first then maybe lagos.

am sure there will be somebody who can refer you to a competent establishment and not a roadside ikeja Tech
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by blackweaver(m): 1:17am On Jan 07, 2010
well the thing is that the ram thing is still speculation, it might end up being more serious
which is why i was thinkin of someone he knows so that he can try fixin in a way that won't cost
him - just in case it's not the problem

Well, like the tecs have said. Try this.

unplug charger + battery + other pherip,

Hold down laptop power button 4 (30 secs)

Connect just charger and keep pressing F10.

Tell us what happened. Good luck and thanks for enquiring.

Please help! The colour on my desktop monitor (DELL) (XP professional SP2) is now faded and appears in a very dull light blueish-green hue. It used to be a very deep and sharp blue before and the problem started 3 days ago. If I look at an image that I know has the color red in it - it will look like a blue-green - All the colours are now pale & washed out. In fact, the true colour of all images is now distorted becos of this problem. I have adjusted the display settings but still the problem persists. What do I do, please? cry
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by Nobody: 8:31am On Jan 08, 2010
i think your monitor may have a problem

connect another monitor to your pc to see if the problem persists .
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by blackweaver(m): 9:25am On Jan 08, 2010
i agree with oyb, it's probably a monitor problem, try fiddling around with the vga connection - where it connects
to your cpu, perhaps the problem will be rectified (in which case some pin was not touching)

@xsay i'm not sure but changing the language in control panel might help but i'm almost sure you shouldn't need
to reinstall the os, you can google around on changing the language i think you may need to install the
english language pack if it isn't already installed
Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by 4llerbuntu(m): 12:21pm On Jan 08, 2010
@ language, u will probably need a cd of d os, u shld get anor pc with d same os 2 help u navigate 2 d ctrl panel under language options, when u change it, it will ask for d cd so it loads d language pack.

No need 4 format b4 u come back 2 say harddrive locked or no drivers

Re: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by 4llerbuntu(m): 2:55pm On Jan 08, 2010
task bar or task manager

anyways if its task manager:

click start, run then type the following string or better copy and paste

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

OR

download his reg fix and run it: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/EnableTM.reg

note if u try to put that link in mozilla and it opens in notepad, figure out how to download it, or else use a download mgr.
