grabdaloot: @grabdaloot Thanks. But I just cut part of the data to make the spreadsheet small. For example, If I have only the data for the last 10days, I should be able to calculate 9 Day RSI, which should not have anything to do with previous history? am I right? |
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by easimoni(m): 9:33pm On Jan 11, 2008 |
SGN: I can't get to aptistock from my office but I examined your sheet. YOu are using the investopedia definition of RSI which uses absolute prices to calc RS. I have since switched to the John Murphy (and others) definition which uses price differences to calc RS. To get the John Murphy (I can't remember who invented it but John Murphy got it right) version, RS-up is the sum of price gains (not sum of prices on up days), RS-down is absolute sum of price losses (not sum of prices on down days) over the past 9(?) days. Investopedia got it wrong! Maybe Aptistock does as well. |
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by SGN(m): 9:40pm On Jan 11, 2008 |
@easimoni There you are! Thanks a lot. I will adjust as necessary. I think Aptistock used the old method as well. |

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by FatherOF2: 10:22pm On Jan 11, 2008 |
Bizl4Rizl: Hmmm, that 20k small oh.And penny no dey stock again oh.All of them are growing into naira stocks. What i would do is to buy FCMB say by monday or tuesday, but tell my broker i want FCMB at about N18 plus small. Not higher. Why are you doing this you may ask. 1. The banks Q2 was very good. 2. The bank's 9 months ends this January, so Q3 release going by UBA,oceanic, zenith fast response last week could be in Feb/early march. 3. Expect similar good performance for Q3 and this will be the trigger. 4. As you're already in position, you'll rise with the price. I expect at least N25(normal)-N27(when you add market sentiment) for that stock from 9months - FY. |

Deap capital. According to the prospectus, total outstanding shares was 462,766,022. total shares on offer was 490,957,376. Although it was a bit oversubscribed. Not all the shares were alloted hence the reason for the returned money. The actual shares is 1B after allotment and not 1.5B, There is a provision for bonus of 1 for 2 this year, and a dividend of 13k if not more, Statement below is from an insider- MD had a meeting with staff last december and he promised to do the bonus . Apart from that, there is going to be another meeting this Monday-- expect the result end of this month, I will advice you guys to start buying if you can get it. If they announce the result, you may guess the direction of the stock. We all know it can be 'painfully' too late to buy then, anyway, will let you know the outcome of the meeting by Tuesday . |

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 12:37am On Jan 12, 2008 |
teto:its not that Fo2 is ignoring u intentionally so dont state it like that but u would make it much easier for him or anyone else if u just stated it here on the thread. Its important to realize that people who are offering advice are being kind to do so out of their own free will. If you go through the thread from the last few days, you'll see some great advice as to stocks to get into for both short and long term. If you state ok I have stock A BC D, this is why I think I should keep B and sell C, then someone will prob be able to tell you yes thats a good idea, or if that were me i would do this and that. |
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 12:57am On Jan 12, 2008 |
bibiking1: Juli is a pharmaceutical company (Juli Pharmacy) but please take your money elsewhere. For a start you should note that the stock is hardly ever traded and when it is the volumes are low and usually only one deal. Only once this month has there been more than 1 deal a day. 4 deals. There has been no result for several years. The latest one I can find is from 2004 and the company declared a loss. Same with the previous year. The "owner" of the company is a former health minister though he had set up the company several years before he became minister. As far as I am concerned it is a one man PLC. Unless you hear the company wants to come and do a PO don't go near it. |

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by palemoon(f): 2:05am On Jan 12, 2008 |

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 2:26am On Jan 12, 2008 |
iconbull: I dey o. How body for there? Na water dey inside my pocket o. I posted some data on the fundamentals yesterday. It looks good. I will wait on ebony9ja to make the rumour stronger. |
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 2:53am On Jan 12, 2008 |
palemoon: There are rumours of a PO in March so you may want to wait to ride on a likely rally. |
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by tonyjon(m): 3:00am On Jan 12, 2008 |
palemoon: If you need money now you can sell but if your risk appetite is still high, you can hold on because there is this info going around that they will have their PO in March. If it's true, there is tendency for them to whip-up the price before the PO. You can then sale at a higher price. But na wa for u, u bought unity bank without looking at the fundamental. Thank God u don make some money on it. Peace. |

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by wanaj0: 11:19am On Jan 12, 2008 |
Fatherof2 and Wendy, UACN has a low PE because of the Extra ordinary income that boosted their profits. They are selling some of their assets (Tractor and Equipment). For me that is not sustainable so it is a SELL. Market sentiments may however move it up to 60.00 UNILEVER, will still be wary of it. Margins in the sector are thin and the growth potential is limited. If you need a conglomerate, go Chellarams. Lowest PE in the sector. Now into manufacturing of bicycles, Okada and Tricycles. That definitely is a high margin and growth sector of the economy. With stable exchange rate (falling dollar) importers will make a KILL. Downside is liquidity. They were planning a PO before but they've gone silent on that now. Liquidity na the issue here! JOHN HOLT, little info. Being declaring losses for a while so will let that pass. AG Leventis and UTC, not really facsinated with those two. They need serious re engineering. Can't see what will propell them. They are in a low margin sector apart from the power (generators) that they are in to. They are however facing stiff competition from the Chinese companies also. TRANSCORP? Maybe if you are a naturally OPTIMISTIC person. Which one remain? |
