Welcome to Nigerian doctors, the nurses took delivery, the first baby was born at Island Maternity and the doctors did not show up until the next morning, it was the sister on duty that took delivery, infact, the doctor that came early in the morning was considered incompetent by the sister, this was in 2004, the other two were born at private hospitals and the nurses did the bulk of the work, when it comes to delivery, midwives can do everything jare. It is only where there are complications that doctors must be around.

For those calling on the state Government to sack all striking doctors, I wonder if they even appreciate the work doctors do? These are not marketers sitting behind counters in banks or teachers that you can replace at will with hungry graduates. You will struggle to replace the current crop of doctors with new recruits. And even the new ones will also be unionized. At the end of the day you will still meet them over a negotiation table.

All these lies from the State government is not helping the situation. Exaggerating the salary the elite doctors (with decades of experience) earn to deceive the masses is not good governance. Lagos state can afford to pay them 100% CONMESS, forget all the FUD being spread by their apologists. The way Fashola is talking, one wonders why we do not see LUTH doctors driving new SUVs and owning choice properties in Lagos

The UK has been good to you, pls stay there by all means. It is not same for most Nigerian docs going there these days. A lot will prefer to take Fashola's offer than be psychiatrists in London even if their pay is bigger.

The post-graduate colleges are turning out consultants everyday that will gladly fill posts if specialists chose to leave. But they wouldnt. The ones making the most noise are the junior to middle cadre opportunists who want to live like movie stars b/c they carry stetoscopes

a classmate of mine in secondary school who practice in US earns 300000dollars per annum.na oau him finish from.thats is 45million naira!!!!.i was shocked when he told me.didinrin nie.a poorly motivated doctor is worse than a suicide bomber.when pple like you go to hospital you say in "america doctors dont behave like this infact the last time i went holland doctors were so nice"in short you want american styled doctors in nigerian with a nigeria pocket.people like you wonder  why union bank is never like  GTB.motivation!!!

There's nothing wrong with making demands and you have every right to do so, same way your employer is obligated to respond to your demand and offer you what ever they have avalable to satisfy your demand,  but if after your employer ofered to you what they have to offer and you're still not satisfied, the next thing to do and better step for you to take is to go look for another employer who is willing and able to satisfy your demand. Spoken like someone who is out of touch of the needs of the common man! You've used private clinics for so long, you think the docs in the public clinics can be dispensed of so easily.
Doctors aren't like teachers or tailors that you'll be talking of 'outsourcing'. Outsourcing what exactly? Perhaps you'd send all the hundreds of thousands of sick patients to India? Or you'd import foreign doctors at much greater expense to take care of your citizenry?
I wonder why you people build your argument on doctors making excessive demands when it's been drummed into your heads that all the doctors are asking for is to be paid on the same scale as their counterparts in the Federal Government employment. You people are talking about 'unreasonable demands', you think the notoriously stingy Federal Government would have agreed to an obscene amount to be paid to doctors?
The Federal Government accepts the CONMESS as a reasonable salary scale for Medical doctors in Nigeria. At least 10 other states agree that it is reasonable. Suddenly in Lagos state, what other states and the Federal Government sees as reasonable is suddenly a 'greedy' and 'obscene' sum. As a reasonable human being, don't you smell a rat?

Late last year the striking doctors secured a gentleman's agreement with the State Government by Negotiation and called off their strike. If their demands were unreasonable, why did the state Government agree on a compromise with them?
Now they are striking because the lying Government failed to live up to the agreement. In such a case like this, i would hold the Lagos State Government responsible, not the doctors. They swore an oath to protect lives, so did Fashola. And they owe their families a decent living!

Let fashola pay them what they agreed on last year November, let him take up the actions that he agreed to take instead of all these shameless untruths and misdirection.

The mere fact that Doctors are on strike is such a shame to the government. Medical Doctors are part of essential services and as such should never go on strike as part of their ethics, but in Nigeria our politicians take that as a leave to reduce them to the level they dealt to teachers.

Please Doctors this is the Election Season hence the best time to speak to Fashola in the language he will understand. Make your own posters of the real fact and copies of your real pay check and paste it wherever you see his campaign posters. Also where ever he plans his campaign rallies, plan your own demonstration rallies and you will get your demand within two weeks. If we can afford to build brand new cities on the ocean, we  can definitely pay doctors well.

This should not be only in Lagos but in other states as well, especially those that are running ghost free medical services on the blood of doctors. Our Doctors Should be the best paid professionals, we all depend so much on them.

Its high time Doctors stop meager managing both the hospitals and themselves, the better for our health. Imagine a system where a houseman goes to work in the morning and stays on call for two days from morning to night, only getting lunch breaks. Even as an engineer, if I spend two weeks on a Rig, I get another two weeks free and I do not feed my self, infact I do not spend a kobo. but the young doctors just keep going on call as if they are machines, and when they are not on call they must still go to work for 8 hours.

outsource?do you know how much the northern governors pay the quacks they bring in to kill their citizens?Here in the UK,I had a personal experience with a Pakistani who worked in Nigeria for almost 1year(he was fresh out of a pakistani medical school mind you).Paid about $1500 monthly, accomodated and given a car.He worked there long enough to save money to write British exams and relocate.Do you know many of them do not write Nigerian exams nor obtain proper licenses before working as doctors in Nigeria?
While gisting he told me himself he never got any license to practice in NIgeria cos it was state govt that took him there,even then he claims to have learned a lot of his surgical skills in that state, making mistakes im sure they would have killed him for in his home country.So my dear, forget your outsourcing theories and face reality, the government can and should pay Doctors once and for all, this ego-driven Tinubu politics benefits only the government, not the dying masses.The people should unite and make sure the government takes their health seriously instead of all these misdirected anger at doctors only trying to earn their due.

Even if Fashola's claims were to be taken as gospel truth, the 700,000 naira figure was mentioned for 'senior doctors'. That meant experienced consultants with at least a decade of solid experience under their belts. I don't know why in your envy you're jumping to conclusion that all the doctors are earning in that range.

I don't care what Fashola claims. What he's paying is below CONMESS. Ordinary ekiti state pays 100% CONMESS and Yet in Lagos state, less than 100% CONMESS is now an obscene amount.

I PITY NIGERIANS. i was with a doctor friend some days back, he works with oyo state govt.he told me how doctors are suffering in oyo.landlords refuse to rent them houses.because they wont pay on time.is that good for any doctor!he said he ses an average of 70-80 patients in a day.he told me as a doctor you are to spend quality time with your patient for proper examination and for  wholesome approach to their but that is not possible as it is a race against time.he saw a baby who complained of temperature and weakness.he imagined that shld be malaria.no time to examine.he wrote the drugs.few hours later the baby died on their way home.a close look revealed the baby was pale.low blood.no time to do thorough check.
my people doctors job is not just a job its like army.if the army are not well treated who will fight your wars or protect you. if you you treat the doctors bad.it is the people that will suffer.

The fact is, how many patient does each Dr in Ekiti take care of?How much does the Dr in Ekiti spend on transportation and accomodation?The demands of working as a Dr in Lagos are terrible.I've been there and i know its just awful, Don't be deceived by the things shown to pressmen, politicians are good at that.Ask yourself what the consulting room looks like in most LASG hospitals,call rooms?dont even imagine, i will post some old pictures from the call room at the last Hospital i worked in lagos, you cant even have your bath the morning after a call before resuming for the next morning duty.I agree they should negotiate, but wait, they already did that and the government signed the agreement that they will pay by january ending(which was why the strike was called off last year), calling for a renegotiation is one of the things bringing mistrust.What tells you the govt wont change its mind in 3months time and call for another renegotiation?

am goin 2 refrain from using swear words bt the truth be said thats what the CONMESS SCALE IS.If u have a frnd who works in luth,kindly ask.U don't work as hard as i do cos i benefit from this scale.Wake up 6am,start work for 8am and will be busy till 4pm thats if am lucky.Might be on call which means my work does nt end for that day.Have 2 do my evning rounds again as well as any other miscellaneous which for sure won't end until late into the nite.When i say miscellaneous it simply means having some unstable pt.Must be on ground cos i can be called 2 the wards at any time thru the nite which is always goin 2 be and the cycle continues the nxt day.Av 2 go 2 work 4 rounds on sat mornin as well with/without being on call.Only free day is sunday and dts if u r nt on call.
U need 2 av a close individual 2 u thats a doctor 2 know wat we live thru.
I dnt av 2 post every grade's scale bt thats the lowest nd the highest u get with the conmess scale.

Dont be naive.Someone working in the system just gave you values and you are still doubting.I'm sure you well know theres a difeerence between gross pay and net pay.If you have any facts to the contrary post it or gently hold on to your comments.It doesn't show you in good light arguing about something you have no information about.
