See, the problem is that you keep seeing things only in Putin's perspective. Relationship between the US and Russia started getting sour just before the end of the second world war.
I will tell you this. The mistake Putin made was that rather than rack up threatening nuclear weapons, he should have built an economic powerhouse in Europe.
