phone has never been tampered with anyways. phone is locked to 3-network in the uk.
the device is only 12 months old.

wow. i just remembered that locked iphone 3gs on ios 5.0.1 CANNOT be unlocked with ultrasnow. As anyone tried the ultrasnow fixer? Any u can downgrade to 4.1 and unlock.

1. Downgrade to iOS 4.1 (Apple still keep this open for 3Gs) and flash iPad baseband, which i don't personally like.
2. If the phone is 12 months old, then maybe the Official Carrier will permanently unlock it after 24 months, meaning another 12 months of waiting!

i will ask the phone company as i actually got the contract around june(last year) which should be 18 mths now. i got a replacement 12 months ago when the phone crashed!

if d fone is locked to 3UK, i can unlock it for u permanently even if u av not finished d contract. but it's quite expensive. its like paying ur balance off.

y did u upgrade to ipad baseband? if u are sure that ur fone is factory unlocked, u can try to upgrade to 5.0.1 and dont jailbreak,disable location update and see if it works, if it doeasnt work, u can always go to 4.1 but make sure u use custom 5.0.1 prepared with snowbreeze without jailbreaking it.

If you are sure the phone is factory unlocked before the dude upgraded ur baseband to iPad-baseband, you got no problem unlocking it on iOS 5.0.1
Just create custom ipsw with option DO NOT ACTIVATE (meaning you got carrier unlock).

Then activate with itune. (Since ur Serial number is on Apple server as unlock, itune will unlock it)
I have upgraded a 3Gs to iOS 5.0.1 like that with 6.15.0 baseband.
