bixton:. Government employment is not "slavery". It's a privilege. A privilege that many Nigerians earn by bribery, or by nepotism and tribalism (what we call "connect". Most government employees are lucky to be there at all when there are far more deserving people who don't have those jobs because they don't have a "connect". Do you understand that it is the Nigerian taxpayers who are struggling in a very harsh economy who will be paying the ridiculous salary demands of those government workers? Why should we subsidize the struggles of government employees when we're also having our struggles? 1 Like |

With due respect Prof, sometimes political rascality and loss of human empathy couple with corruption and wickedness always override the sense of reasoning and academic theories, mr. governor as an economist when the man proclaimed subsidy gone and flow our naira without corresponding increased productivity to earn foreign exchange, you lost your voice to tell the man the consequences of his action that brings hyper inflation, that make the price level to increase by about 400%. Now that he has to face consequences of that action in form of wage increment you suddenly postulated that there will be consequences. Am not surprise because all governors had been advocating for subsidy removal to have more money coming to their state to embezzled and diverted to private purse, a case in study is kogi where ex-governor was climbing the fence to escape EFCC probe of 80 billion naira, our Prof. did not pity the people there, the only money that circular to masses and boost our economy is what is paid to government workers, all the money our Prof. and other governors and politically exposed persons embezzled are not found in our domestic economy, they either send to foreign countries to buy assets, change it to dollar and store in the tank and sock ways. Let there by living wage for workers so that worker can live a decent life. Also Prof with all sincerity, how much do you give to your boy or daughter to go and shop or spend in a weekend as compare to minimum wage you are pity Mr president for. 1 Like |

christejames: To be honest he is right! Nigeria cannot sustain that proposed minimum wage without major consequences. What people should be clamouring about is for certain political class to have massive paycuts to boost the economy. When that is done then people can talk about minimum wage increment. Fyi a minimum wage increment of over 100% also applies to that certain political class as well. |

Misterone:. Actually, our politicians and even the so-called NLC leaders deliberately refused to understand "minimum wage". It's no minimum wage if it doesn't include the private sector. UK is a wonderful minimum wage template we should imbibe, not just focusing on civil servants only. We no dey learn good things; na bad thing we dey learn from the Oyinbos. 1 Like |

casualobserver: Abeg nor vex ooo, I get many questions wey I wan ask you. What exactly is the output of our public officials to warrant them earning millions (some tens of millions) monthly? What percentage of GDP per capita should public officials earn? What percentage of GDP per capita should be used to purchase official vehicles for public officials? Shouldn't all what you've been saying apply to public officials and their appointees too. I honestly believe all public office holders in Nigeria are earning way more than their output. If you believe this too, please apply this GDP per capita calculation and tell us what these public officials should take home. Let's start from there. |
Re: I Pity Tinubu If He Approves Unsustainable Minimum Wage - Soludo by casualobserver: 12:09am On Jun 13 |
franconian: Oga that’s why poverty is a disease. Anyone who told you life is fair lied to you. There is no system of government anywhere in the world that was designed for the poor. Every system of govt everywhere in the world since the dawn of time was designed for the few. Forget their propaganda, the only interest any govt has in the poor is to prevent a riot so the elites can enjoy their privileges in peace and since the Poor of Nigeria are all talk, make stupid choices, prefer to pray than to work, no one is going to,fight for you unless you fight for yourselves. So you either improve yourself to break the poverty barrier or you fight so that they take care of you. Joe Ajaero is in switzerland, he would have travelled business class, his official car is the same car senators and house rep members ride, when he called a strike his house is powered by generators paid for by union dues. Do you think he fighting for the poor? Better wake up. I cannot pay you what I do not have, neither can you employer, neither can a government. Stop asking about what the elites earn, you are not the elite. I hate to break it to you but you are not equal. To borrow the famous phrase from animal farm. “All animals are equal but some are more equal than others”. That’s the reality of life. That why we say get a good education so that there is a minimum level you cannot fall below in life but you insist on paying 80k for university fees and chase away those who can pay higher fees to subsidize a good education for you. Then you complain when those who sacrificed to get a good education enjoying the privileges, contact, access of the said good education. Ok nah! So to answer your question what is their output? More than the minimum wage worker that’s why they are there and the minimum wage worker is where he is. If the minimum wage worker had what it takes to be earning the millions he wouldn’t be earning minimum wage. If the average Nigerian had what it takes to earn the millions they wouldn’t be average Nigerians. Clearly those earning these sums have something those who don’t lack. It could be intelligence, it be be qualifications, it could be access, it could be contacts, whatever it is it come with deliberate effort, not shouting asking why are you earning more than me! That is why I said you get what you work for in life. 1 Like |
