Niiade: TCD thanks for the response om I have been using swift to update it both night n day still no headway.
Regarding the method I am using the PB itself, didn't know I could update using desktop manager, first time update.
Funny thing it neva continues from where it stop earlier.
It always say download stopped and the only option is to reset after reseting it shows try again or turn off PB.
TCD can I have ur pin. This is mine 27F4E94A.thanks
the blame should lie with your swift connection, it keeps getting interrupted. Don't have a bb phone now, about to get a new one though,.

Lexusgs430:

Any original blackberry phone charger is has good for the playbook. The only main difference is the colour of the charging heads (yellow and black). Yellow - head been rapid usb, while black - head is standard. What other sort of accessories do you require?

Any bb fone charger won't charge the pb well n fast. The required charger is 5v-2A ands the specs am looking for. Other accessories like charging dock, external speakers and any other car accessories
Re: Blackberry Playbook: Anyone? by Niiade(m): 10:09pm On Aug 09, 2012
This updating is big rubbish from blackberry o, Kai spent five hours updating the oS, just leaving the office at 10pm only for the stuff to stop n ask for restart at 412mb out of 509mb. I have consumed about 2.5gb in downloading n still its not complete. If it doesn't work this wEekend Lord know selling it is the next greatest idea.

A normal bb phone charger would charge the pb, albeit slowly. It will indicate the slow-charge icon, but it will surely charge it.

Sorry my brother, I know how you feel. Its frustrating. Luckily Blackberry is doing away with this compulsory update with the new OS2.1.

Like spoilerx has adviced above try another network, but this one MTN don increase their 3Gb to 7K, maybe looking to airtel and others, with good 3G service in your area will be best.

Btw, airtel 1200 BIS can be used as Mobile hotspot, but they only give 1GB. Once used it for my OS reload.

i updated mine with the 1gb plan for 3500 from MTN, maybe you should try that and it didn't take up to an hour.

The major problem with update is poor Internet and also Rims servers too. I have a fix that's been working for me on my pc. If u can send it to Ibadan I can fix it for u and if any of u wants to sell I'll gladly buy at a discounted rate.

A few months ago this thread was opened. I followed closely, happy that I had people who think like me and who are rather knowledgeable about what I need info on.
I waited for too long cos we are now on page 18 and my PB just arrived today. I am alone in the cold of the basics now.
THUMBS up to TCD, Dan dollar and all the gurus on the thread. You guys are wonderful..

TCD: Since you're having trouble downloading the os from rims servers, there are ways to trick DM into downloading from other 3rd party servers or pseudo servers you can create by yourself on your PC, basically means you download the playbook OS into ur computer then instead of DM connecting to RIM servers to update, it just updates from the Local OS you have downloaded and storoedin your computer.

Didnt want to bring it up earlier coz its kinda technical and somewhat complicated even I sef havent sat down to critically look at it coz i've not needed it. I'll post the link to the tutorial

Now, its my turn to lament and shout at RIM for doing this. I guess the most feasible option i have now left is this psudo-server cos all the other ones were met with recurrent interrupted connection. I understand the tutorial fairly. however, i have been searching for the OS itself, cant get from any site. do u have a link to any site i can download it?
Dont know why i didnt beg Oga Fhemmmmy to do this aspect of the config for me

If ure on vista or win7 try re-installing d software as an administrator. If dat doesn't work, try downloading the software again.

Okay. In my previous post I wrote PB update issue is a network and Rims update server issue too. My discovery is that because we all use naija ip address. Technically RIMS server will first listen to other ip addresses from other countries like UK. Us. Canada n likes. This is because naija ip globally has been given limited access to most corporate servers in the world for a reason we all know (God help n save the youth's of this country).

The tweak and solution is look for a way of changing your ip address to other countries the best is Canada cos that's where rims server is. USA n UK ip too works great. This way your update will finish under 1hr so long ur Internet is fast. Note don't use proxy ips but strong vpn connection. Goodluck everyone.

Thanks a lot drumme. I started following this thread from the very first day it started. By then I have had my PlayBook for almost one month but I couldn't use it because of the update palaver. It was the posts Of people like oga tcd that inspired me to keep trying and by God's grace I am typing this on my PlayBook. I can't thank all the contributors on this thread enough especially tcd and lexus.
When many people see me using my PlayBook, they are so impressed with the device. Compared with other tablets out there, this one gives you more value for money especially if you have a blackberry phone. Despite that, I feel reluctant advising them to buy the PlayBook because I don't want them to go through the almost 3 months frustration I went through with my own gadget.
Oga drumme, please can you describe in a simple way how someone can do what you described above; you know, just like tcd explained sideloading. Your description is still too complex; so that when I advice someone to buy the playbook, I will just tell him to come to this Page.

Thanks for posting this, had no idea ip is a determinant in your access to rim servers for update. Luckily for me, never had such difficulties. I really hoe this helps someone.

Although I've experimented with vpn's and proxies and was able to load via wifi a pb update for the North American region, to see if there are any extra goodies worth having. Had to use a friends paid private vpn service though. free vpn I found it difficult to find ones that work.

So like 2010 said, could you please describe how you set yours up and where you got the free vpn (if that's what you used) so those having problems can do so too. Thanks
