Abeg Michael Owen at the peak of his powers was No 2. Lest we forget he was at one point in time one of the world's best strikers. His Ballon D'or duly proves that.

Also Torres is easily No2. And with a bit more strength training would fit into the no 3 bracket. Even without the strength training, there has been times I've gone yes he definitely fits into the No 3 category.

His case might very well be of Form being temporary and class permanent.

dayo is simply a troglodyte - torres easily fits into the 3rd category! he played the lone striker role for liverpool when he first arrived and there wasn't a better hybrid striker in the whole league in that season. he was a beast - power, pace, strength! it's idiotic for dayo and his goons to assume torres has lost this ability! the chances have been very limited @ chelsea - it's not difficult to see why shevchenko, pizarro, kezman, etc all failed @ chelsea!

Owen was never a sneaky kind of striker, He was one who would get through balls and run a few yards before scoring. Nowadays things are much more difficult.

Torres has strikers instinct? Are you serious? Why is it that Chicharito, Inzaghi, Ruud etc are always at the right places, or chasing spils from keepers and lost causes. Have you ever seen Torres do anything like that? If a pass is not 100% accurate, Torres would throw his hands in the air and blame the midfielder

Class is Permanent ke? How many years and counting?

Shevcheno came to Chelsea expired. Did Kezman ever shine at anywhere after Chelsea? and Pizarro was meant to be a sub which he was Thats why he started less than 10games for Chelsea

He should know all about that. The winning goal he scored vs Germany in 2008 showed all of those attributes.

Dayo is just being cheeky, he very well knows Torres has not lost it. Certainly not at 28. IMO is just going through a prolonged dip in form. With regards to chelsea, yes the chances created by them are limited but neither is Torres helping matters(don't see him making intelligent runs or bringing others into play). Take saturday for Instance, He spent the entire 85 minutes either getting dispossesed easily or having his hands tied to his waist.

Oh Players dont lose it at 28?

Abeg what age did Kluivert stop being a top player, Denilson? Prolonged dip in form extending to how many years now? Not injured oo. Now under about 4 coaches and still a flop

Hodgson, Ancelotti, AVB and now RDM

They do but Torres is a different case.
His exploits for spain at the Euros with limited game time shows he has still got it. Plus he was actually decent in the first 2 or so games of the season.

Fours years ke? Torres that scored 18 goals in 22 starts in the 2009/2010 season.

this boy is drunk.....
how can you compare torres to kluivert and denilson? this same torres just won a golden boot in europe - beating household strikers to the boot and you are embarrassing yourself on a public forum with idiotic analysis! chelsea is torres' problem - this is why roman keep sacking the managers!

Even when he got through balls, he still had some work to do ie defenders in front of him to get by. And boy did he do it well. If the likes of Hernandez, Inzaghi and Ruud can thrive in the modern game, I have no doubt in my mind a peak owen easily would and more. Ditto for Torres

Prolonged dip in form! Hehehehehe that's a new one. Let's face it he's been crap for almost 2 years now! His contribution to Spain's cause was so irrelevant he failed to make the team of the tournament

Crap for two years?

2010/2011 = 10 league goals in 37 appearance(quite a number of those appearances were as a sub because he kept on having niggling injuries. Plus he moved to a new club that january and we all know most players need time acclimatise to new surroundings)

2011/2012 = 6 league goals in 32 appearances. Probably the only year you can say he wasn't up to par

He was not named in the squad because he did not get enough game time. Still did not stop him from winning the Golden boot though.
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by dayokanu(m): 4:22am On Sep 18, 2012
10 goals in 37 appearance is what you think decent? Even defenders put up such numbers
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Ibime(m): 7:42am On Sep 18, 2012
Ibime: See how anichebe just used his body to turn that fella. If it's Torres they would tell us he was never one on one against any defender. That's what you call one on one, a situation that occurs zillion times in a match for Torres but he doesn't have strength or quickness to capitalise

190: can someone really actually tell me what torres is really good at

good question. we need answers

it's not difficult to see why shevchenko, pizarro, kezman, etc all failed @ chelsea!

are you saying that you have finally acquired that universal truth, that chelsea is a shyte clubside? grin grin grin grin

Another excellent question. perchance its regular for players to take 4 year hiatus from "class" naybe he will return wen he clocks 30

2008, 2012..... wow. 4 years? nah is not much nah. we can wait another 4 just to watch him score that type of goal.
prolong ke, its just a few years na lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

btw who tied his hands and legs? "class"? shebi drogba don go?

2 years? coulda sworn it was going on 4 now undecided undecided undecided

but but, is this not the same tournament he was highest goal scorer with 3 goals? u mean he still didn't make the team of the tournament? ayyyeeeeesh!!!! didnt he show enough "hybrid", "pace, precision, and power" in getting the golden boot?

dayokanu: 10 goals in 37 appearance is what you think decent? Even defenders put up such numbers

yes ke, of fee decent paa ni! afterall in the blind man's country, the one-eyed man is king!!

at least he still score, some "strikers" never score for two years now! tongue tongue tongue tongue

make una no dey prolong this torres matter.

by the time chelsea go through ten managers and 20 playmakers, he will eventually find the one that "understands" him
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Ibime(m): 9:43am On Sep 18, 2012
We dont care whether his slump is temporary, permanent or otherwise. We have had enough of babysitting the dude. My main concern is putting out the best striker for the next game, and that is undoubtedly Daniel Sturridge. Torres can go find form from the bench.

Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Ibime(m): 10:09am On Sep 18, 2012
El Guapo: As for Ramires, this is really starting to get my back up, all I see whilst reading Chelsea supporters opinions on various websites, is that we all feel Ramires is not a winger and his most affective position is in centre midfield. Yes he had a couple of decent games out there in the Champions League last season, but that’s two games, the rest of the time he just cannot cut it out wide, is one-dimensional and lacks imagination and skill to beat players.

You and your online friends have no clue. The greatest decision RDM ever made, which was key to all our success last season was moving Ramires out wide. Ramires has never been a central midfielder, and does not have the slightest iota how to play that position, especially not in a midfield two. Ma gripe is with Emenalo who signed all these wingers perhaps thinking of Ramires as a central midfielder. Ramires shoulda been sold for top-dollar (£25m+) if Emenalo wanted to sign so many wingers.

Average passes per game last season shows Ramires is not in any way a credible central midfielder:

Dribbling stats however show his best position as he made more dribbles than anyone per game.

Yes crap for two years for both club and country! To a new club in the same league? I don't know what kind of adjustments you are talking about! Since Chelsea is presently better than Liverpool and more or less play the same pattern but with inferior players

chic2pimp:

Torres has been sub-par for a while now! People can argue that well Chelsea has won the UCL since his arrival but I can tell you Paolo Ferreira has played a bigger role in that happening than Fernando

Lol why did he not get enough game time?? Torres was so shyte Del Bosque had to try what has never been done before! Try and win the Euros without a recognized center forward starting games

You guys always take things too far - were there no other strikers in Spain's squad?

Who was the 'recognised' CF at Barcelona last season? Messi? Alexis? VDB simply carried the 'false 9' system of Barcelona and perfected it on the international stage - little/nothing to do with Torres!

Y'all have now turned it into a Torres issue. SMH

I can tell you that if Villa was fit he would play. The No striker formation was because Torres was diabolically bad

Now Villa is back Lets see if Del Bosque would stick to the No striker formation

Nansense!! If Torres was not dud for Chelsea Del Bosque woulda played him! Is it a Torres that was not even guaranteed a spot in the team that woulda started before? We are not talking about other strikers we are talking about Torres!
Villa who just came back from an eight months layoff has already banged in 3 goals for club and country

Formations are adapted to suit the opposition - even in the same Euros, did Torres not start a game? Torres' form was already bad prior to the tournament - did Del Bosque play midfielders in the CF position then as well?

That is where your argument falls apart - if Torres was the only CF available to VDB then your argument may be plausible - if there were other strikers available and VDB did NOT play them, then that points to a deliberate tactical decision not purely dependent on the form of any single player.

Or are you saying that Torres that was so poor was the only choice available to Del Bosque in a squad that contained Llorente and Negredo?

ridiculous - llorente had an outstanding season scoring 29 goals and he was left on the bench! if villa was fit, he would play quite alright but as a wide forward like he played in some games @ the world cup!

Now Villa is back Lets see if Del Bosque would stick to the No striker formation

we would have to wait for another tournament before we can verify your claims. del bosque did not use strikerless formation during the qualifiers/friendlies pre-euro 2012. it is quite daft to expect him to deploy the same formation now!

Don't mind them. I quite rightly pointed this out to Ibime and his cohorts during the Euros.
Llorente and Soldado had brilliant seasons. If so little faith was held in Torres, what happened to the others?

you guys don't know dayo - when he's on a witchhunt, he can be the most brainless poster on the forum with idiotic conjectures and opinions plucked from his own rectum! it's obvious del bosque had a deliberate plan to load his midfield and control the game to deflect attention away from the out-of-form piqué and the absence of puyol!

Llorente was very tired. It was well reported. That's the reason why nonentity like negredo started the quarter final whilst llorente didn't see one minute. If llorente was 100%, negredo cannot see one minute on pitch. Anyway I'm not concerned with minor details about a confirmed flop. Let's see whether del Bosque ccontinues same way when villa is up to speed.

Wonderful shape keeping by Torres. Only won 1 out of his 7 aerial battles at qpr and only found a teammate 12 of the 25 times he received the ball. That's not counting the other umpteen times weakling was barged out the way before he could even get to the ball. Shekpe keeper - nateevs greatest contribution to nairaland lexicon
