i belong to the Abiola's family because the spontaneous manner of opposition shows very bold and clear that all those struggle (1992) was for democracy only and not both democracy and love for Abiola. "MKO is our man ooo" am sure some postors will not understand.

explain.

The struggle was for democracy and justice not for the man Abiola

If the winner of the annulled election had been Audu, Ajayi or Okonkwo the reaction would have been the same

Similar to the reaction we got when Turai domesticated Retardeen jonathan and refused to hand over to him

People went out to fight for Jonathan regardless of which part of the country he came from

Exactly!!!!,

Even though most knew Jonathan was exceptionally daft, hopelessly reetardeed, remarkably clueless and irredemeably m0ronic they still went out to fight for the democratic ideals and justice whether it was Jonathan, Abubakar or Ikechukwu who benefits from it

Beside a daft woman, there must be a dafter man.

In monogamous relationships, The person you marry often mirrors your outlook to life.

In Polygamy you can marry the correct woman and place her as number 1 while you just satisfy your lust with others (See most rich polygamous men always have smart first wifes who they respect and they go down from there)

how can you believe in the man first b4 democracy? thats misplaced priorities. you have to believe in democracy before you can believe in someone who will make the democracy work! believing in the man first means that any style of leadership he brings you will follow. and your here calling names and claiming age which has actually become a burden to you because you are stuck in wot u knew b4 without moving with present day events.

What U've written is called double speak. You said Lagos is such a great brand name. Fine. You said MKO deserves a big time honour. Fine. Now, isn't it cool to associate such a hero as MKO with such a great brand like Lagos. You didn't make any noise when that polytechnic in Ogun was named after MKO. In your opinion that was OK. But here you think UNILAG is too big for him.
It's really sad how a man who spent years in jail and was eventually killed for our democracy would be disdained in such a manner over the naming of a University.

If Murtala Mohammed who barely did anything for Nigeria was named after our Major International Airport, why would any one reject MKO for just a University. Its sad and I'm amazed at the fact that the rejection is coming from the state in which he lived almost all his life. Very sad rejection.

Wasnt there protest on the streets when it was retardeens time?

abeg close mouth papabrowne! did they wait for 50 yrs before renaming lagos intl airport after accrued legacy, who knew lag intl airport then. More so, it was during the construction of a new international terminal that the name was changed! so u see, a new thing was built not an old terminal just changed. in essence don't compare both situations, they are not similar.

I can just picture him in the crèche with his superman costume, pacifier in mouth, and seeking out any 'Igbo' to pick a fight with. Then all hell breaks loose as he lets off a loud fart, stops in his tracks, and looks at the nearest adult with an embarrassed look and says, "Auntie Kemi, i don shit for pant again!!!". shocked

Again, the joke is on ya'll. You call someone daft, yet he keeps outwitting you and coming out tops everytime. He has dispelled every discent and keeps forging on and you still think you are smarter. The smart MAU students will go home, stay for six montha and come back and answer the name.

In any conflict, the first law of engagement is "never underestimate your foe". You lot keep breaking this rule to your own peril. You keep underestimating GEJ and calling him names. Yet he keeps threading paths his predecessors avoided like a plague: electoral reform, FOI bill, official secrets act, fuel subsidy removal, PHCN privatisation and now MAU. Yet you keep saying he is daft.

It reminds me of the story of the Chicken and the Duck. The mother hawk sent her children to get food. They caught a little duckling and brought it back to mother hawk. Mother hawk asked them, "what did the mother duck say?" They said, "she said nothing". So mother hawk asked them to return the duckling. Then they went and caught a little chick and brought her to mother hawk. Mother asked again, "what did the mother chicken say?" They said, "she was shouting and swearing and cursing". So she said "good. Let's eat. The mother chicken has done her worst".

The lesson of the story! Continue to call GEJ daft to your peril! Fingers crossed!

DK, I totally disagree with you.

Generally, I do not like naming things after people, but it is part of our life and I understand why it is done.

On this, I just dey look una, but I am yet to read one single cogent reason why GEJ should not have done this. Ooops, Except for some who raised the issue on if GEJ had the authority to change the name without the National Assembly. Oh yes and as if he did not have enough wahala to deal with already...

So far practically all reactions are based on emotional fellings towards GEJ and not even Abiola. From my vantage point I see the following:

1. Is there a laid down set of regulations in Nigeria that determine how such things are done?

2. If there is, has GEJ followed those rules or infringed on them?

3. Is it not a fact that MKO Abiola regardless of his "backdoor dealings" has to date never been convicted in a court of law for any misdeed in Nigeria? of course save for Abacha's kangaroo court.

4. Is it not a fact that MKO Abiola was a self made multi millionaire who was not born with a silver spoon, no huge inheritance, no connections, but at the time of his demise had built one of the biggest business empires that Nigeria has even seen. Probably now only superseded by Dangote?

5. Do many people remember that MKO Abiola made a first class in Accountancy and earned a distinction as a Chartered Accountant?

6. Is it not a fact that the bulk if his business interest were based in the South West and benefited his Yoruba compatriots? Concrod Newspapers? Abiola Farms? Radio Communications Nigeria on Herbert Macurley way, Yaba, Concord Airlines, African Ocean Lines and of course Abiola babes football club...?

7. Is it not a fact that he was nicknamed Chief launcher of Nigeria due to is philanthropy across the religious divide and extensively in education? Both by direct scholarships AND by donating to capital projects?

8. Do you recall his campaign across Africa and the world for reparations to Africans for the advent of slavery?

9. I am sure you are aware the man was bestowed with the title Are Ona Kankafo of Yorubaland... Who complained he did not deserve it at the time? of course some did but most embraced him.

10. I am sure you are aware that when Abacha imprisoned him on kangaroo charges of treason, eminent figures like Pope John Paul and Desmond Tutu personally lobbied for his release.

11. Now lastly I mention, The annulled election that MKO Abiola was perceived to have won was the singular reason for forcing IBB to "Step aside" as the WHOLE nation rose in anger.

12. Sorry, I am a Naija man, last upon last, MKO Abiola and his wife Kudirat lost their lives fighting for a more democratic Nigeria, So eventually he and his wife paid the ultimate price for Nigerian democracy... Both Awo and Zik died in their sleep in their well earned ripe old age...

I am by no means an MKO Abiola fan, I believe that the June 1993 elections that MKO Abiola won was a masterpiece of electoral rigging, it was the perfect storm the handbook of rigging from which all should learn) But after he was robbed of the victory, he completed his converstion to a statesman.

So when I read even what I wrote above, it is beginning to seem to me that naming ordinary University of Lagos after him is not even enough recognition of the man sef...

It appears like it or not, MKO Abiola is part and parcel of the fight for Nigeria to become a better and more democratic country.

Most South Westerners, young and old likewise are criticizing the renaming of UNILAG. I personally don't like the change in name. First because MAU just doesn't sound right. Secondly, I really don't know why but it just isn't cool.
However, I'm surprised at the reaction of South Westerners especially because they made everyone believe MKO was their hero.

Imagine if University of Nigeria Nnsukka were renamed after OJUKWU, I don't think it would generate all the negativity.
unfortunately no one is going to name the institution after ikemba grin

Only id-io-ts don't know that President Goodluck Jonathan and his cabal don't give a damn about MKO Abiola, but to use him to sway the Yorubas to favour his PDP script for 2015.

Of course only id-iots also voted for him.

MKO Abiola never even attended a Nigerian university and contributed nothing to the development of the University of Lagos.
He was the undisputed Pillar of Sports and the National Stadium in Lagos would have been more befitting to be named after him as the same GEJ renamed Liberty Stadium to Obafemi Awolowo Stadium on November 12, 2010 during his maiden working tour of Ogun State.

Imagine renaming Harvard, Yale or Columbia after any of the past human rights leaders or presidents of America?
