Did that Igbo man release him? It took a middle-belter called Gowon to release him. For eff sake, stop lying. Since when the Gowon become a Hausa. Even his closest friend Nnamdi join a Hausa to imprison him and cause chaos in the Western region after splitting it to reduce her political dominance but God does not sleep.

You guys are not being sincere and that's your problem.
can u prove that Gowon released him from prison.

How was he begging an Igbo man in the letter??

Can you read at all?

Is there a crime in writing to the Head of State of his Country to seek clemency

I now see why scientists said Africans have the lowest IQ in the world.. undecided

You are so on point. You see Nigerians going to school all over the world, but most of their IQ is completely zero, they dont want to read and if they do, they refuse to think straight.

Honestly, you always try to cover the truth. We all know Ojukwu released him and Ojukwu said that himself. How do you think that soldiers at Calabar(Biafran state) would be taking orders from Gowon. Ojukwu was the commander-in-chief in Biafra and released Awo, who later turned his back on Ojukwu and betrayed him.

When Awo wrote to Ironsi, did he release him? No. It was gowon that released him. Don't listen to hand down tales, google it. There is so many materials on that era online.

pistol: So awolowo was begging an igbo man 4 his life.

He was later released only for him to accept the minister of finance position given to him by the hausas that he is trying to paint black here.

And used that position to starve 2 million biafrans to death..

Whom is he trying to fool here.?

D sage indeed

How about the idiot warlord who initiated a civil war he couldn't win? Or that tried to create a nation he couldn't feed? Do you blame him at all?

Search for operation aure on google.
All the presidential advisers were easterners and he promoted all eastern military officers, few hausas and bypassed the west. Officers like obasanjo, benjamin adekunle and many more were bypassed for promotion.
Try and read articles on the operation aure written by an eastern historian Nowa omoigui.
You will have an insight and understanding of the perspective of the various actors of the era.

Shut up your filthy mouth there... Ojukwu may have been an arse but he was by miles better than Awolowo.. If only Ironsi had executed him, the Igbos might have won that war.

I JUST DON'T KNOW WHY WE LIKE INSULTING PEOPLE ON NAIRALAND.
Everybody has the right to say what he or she likes, its called freedom of speech.
It is very wrong to insult people. There are ways to express one's feelings and insults IS NOT JUST ONE OF THEM.

"Chief Awolowo and other political prisoners were released from prison on August 2, l966, on the order of the Head of the Federal Military Government, Lt. Col. Yakubu Gowon."

STOP THE TALES BY MOONLIGHT.

On August 2, 1966 Biafra was not in existence as a state yet. It was declared on May 30, 1967.

Pennywise: Jonathan can never write a letter like this even if his life depends on it.
As a matter of fact,Jonathan is no different from his wife in the area of english language proficiency. He speaks like a petty trader. An example of one of his phrases is "you people should allow me to use two years first before you abuse me"

So agree that Awo was instrumental to the defeat of biafra.
He should have listened to Awo's request to offer service to his fatherland. It wasn't an empty boast he made. I'm sure if Awo advised Ironri, he may have escaped the coup.
Please read operation aure by nowa omoigui online, Ironsi was as good as dead the moment he became head of state. The east were aware of the countercoup but didn't know the time. Col Nwuanuah or so even confronted Murtala mohamed that week to tell him they were aware of the coup all in an effort to discourage it. Ironsi's advisers didn't help matters, they gave him wrong advice and were praising him like a genius despite the appeal by his commanders and even eastern colleagues to dissuade him from the policies he made.

Point of correction..

The men who died in that war volunteered..

The Men, women and children that died as a result of Awolowos starvation were the real victims

I can only imagine d future of this country if great men of old that nursed and gave birth to this entity called Nigeria were allowed to offer their maximum service to her growth. If there are virtues we have lost as a nation, with our great Heroes past, they are HONESTY AND DISCIPLINE! Man at his best state, is truly a vapour... Rest on AWO et al.

Timehin: Why do some people claimed AWO was against the igbos?

The letter confirmed its the northerners that are anti-igbo and events since then have shown who are their enemies.

It is the northerners using an igbo username are they ones saying that just to incite more hatred between the Yoruba people and de igbos

Again how about the idiot warlord who stalemated a war he had effectively lost and then watched as children die of starvation? Ojukwu tried to use propaganda to win the war but it blew up on his face. Blame him and his white cohort Fredrick Forsyth. Not Awolowo.
