I cant be specific on that, but most of the New immigrant here on Nairaland that I know got their first job within 1 to 3 months including myself. Depending on which State you are heading to, you have to apply and wait for your SSC which may take 1-3 weeks before you can begin a job search. On the issue of "pocket money" hold as much as much as you can but anything above $10,000 needs to be declared.

depending on your carrier policy make sure your bag and luggage does not exceed maximum weight
I will advice you put on a smart outfit and a sweat shirt and bring along all the Nigerian food,,,garri, ewa, etc but avoid liquid stuffs.
get to the airport at least 1:20mins
expect a nice trip

While waiting patiently for your GC you can locate the nearest Homeland security administration office and register for your SSN, since N York has a good transportation system you may not rush for Driver's license.

My waec certificate has a wrong DOB instead of september 17,they typed November 17, which I had only 3 credits there and my neco result has 6 credit.My question now is that can I go with that wace certificate or I should go with Neco certificate only? In my form I submitted to kcc I wrote both waec and neco,if I then go with neco alone won't they ask for the waec certificate,I hope that will not disqualify me? Just like ojisalara said, go with the two present your NECO certificate and you may do an affidavit to correct the DOB, but if they don't ask for it to present it.

Medical assistant will take you 7mths plus and you may need to pass the state exam before you can be employ, if you really need a short course go for CPR/AED it is just a day to two days training and you can get a job in one of those Homes around, you can also crown it up with Medication administration training it is just 5 days training.
