Business / Re: Banking Fraud! Beware! by adewaleafolabi(m): 6:47pm On Aug 18, 2008
Its a rule of thumb never to follow a link from an email when sensitive information like your atm card is involved.
Also that link looks a bit strange, why was it named ibank2. If this is a scam then those who pulled this off would either be part of the bank's staff or the builder of the site
Computers / Re: Mtn 3.5g Data Service: How Good? by adewaleafolabi(m): 3:44pm On Aug 18, 2008
What would happen if we all called customer care and complain about the data limit ? Or mail their customer care and lodge our complains ?
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by adewaleafolabi(m): 1:52pm On Aug 12, 2008
I was reading through the bankers forum and read something about unity bank aiming to be one of the biggest banks in the next 5years. This was the same vision the owner of standard trust bank had which led it to buying over Uba. Well it might be worth buying their stock before it starts going kaboom. What do you think ?

Foreign Affairs / Re: Russia Invades Georgia - Guardian UK by adewaleafolabi(m): 11:04pm On Aug 11, 2008
When you request for thunder, then you should be prepared for the rain also. Georgia launched a surprise attack and were they thinking Russia was going to fold their arms while they take over Ossetia ? Considering the fact that these people hold Russian passports. Really this is more of suicide on the part of Georgia (not considering the fact that a proportion of Her army is in Iraq). Not even NATO can save Georgia cause they aren't ready to be drawn into a war. Its a pity that lives are just perishing.

Congratulations to those who got in for the merit list, don't be too confident yet. You're not in yet until you've been offered admission. For those not shortlisted yet, on sweat you also still have a chance of getting in. I never made the merit list but thank God today am a student in the department of my choice Economics.

@Bigbrovar
please include kmobiletools, the ones in the repo might be a bit old so you can download from the official website. Also include Nvu a web design program. Also include the car racing game can't remember the name. If symphony office is free then do include it. Also lxde is important. Now i also saw The Entertainer Project, its supposed to be a lightweight media center. Its less than 6mb. Also include some good icon themes and other themes from online. That should be all i think.

Also for media player equivalent of itunes, Songbird is also a good alternative. Its so good that its almost like a browser also. It has video support, and can collect media available on the website you are currently viewing. Really good media player.

Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by adewaleafolabi(m): 5:21pm On Aug 10, 2008
Now about the pc suite, seriously you don't need it. I simply send my java applications through bluetooth. Now if you're thinking about your contacts and messages, you have kmobile tools or gammu and these programs are fast. Now for the codec, linux like i've always said is a platform, i open all forms of media i know, edit, recompress etc its just you installing the right packages. Now even on windows you don't need pc suite to use your phone as a modem. On linux if you've gone through the ubuntunigeria website you'd see an article about how to connect to the internet through your mobile phone.
About your bluetooth dongle, linux should recognize it immediately. I use bluetooth also.
You can install xubuntu, and install gnome later so you'll have ubuntu too and can change easily.

Now thanks to friends they've downloaded the programs i might need on a single dvd for me so i simply insert it in whenever i need to install anything. See the best way to understand anything here is through the livecd. Try it out and see.

@hunter
now first make a backup of your sourcelist file. Then under settings->software sources, uncheck ubuntu cdrom. Then close and open synaptic and add your ubuntu cd. Then exit and reopen synaptic. That should fix it

@upsry1
thanks for solving this problem.
@bigbrovar
Doesn't this remind you of something ?
The time you formatted your whole pc just because of a '/' in the wrong place in your fstab.
Now this is a lesson for all. Wvdial detected this modem so there was no reason for us to start thinking of calling up modules. Rather our attention should have been on the wvdial.conf file. That why i asked if it uses any initialization codes and he said no. Am back on kde. The weird thing is that its faster than my gnome. And so far even dolphin is sweet.
@pipmaster
welcome to the world of linux. A world of great possibilities. See to get weaned off windows, simple use linux more. See you have a fast internet connection download packages visit www.gnome-look.org and love-vendor up your pc.
Travel / Re: New Rule For Dubai! by adewaleafolabi(m): 9:15am On Aug 06, 2008
Now from what i know, Dubia is a country that depends greatly on people visiting it for various purposes. However when it starts this rule, its sending signals to even non positive people that some of their rights are being trampled upon. See civil rights organisations are watching and would soon start barking. Lets see whether the percentage of people who travel to Dubia wouldn't reduce, and better still lets see how their economy would do without the influx of people

Whats the name of the modem, what's the manufacturer name ? Because what 'lsusb' returned is generic(http://www.ftdichip.com/) and not giving specific information.
Nairaland / General / Re: Please Pray For My Leg by adewaleafolabi(m): 3:42pm On Aug 01, 2008
Now i understand. There's the possibility of some plants extracts doing the trick such as aloe vera. Also there's the claim of some animal fat when prepared, forms something like a cream called ori. I've heard people say it works. But like i've said earlier, the impact of such isn't much. Scars disappear with time unless you opt for surgery.
Nairaland / General / Re: Please Pray For My Leg by adewaleafolabi(m): 8:16am On Aug 01, 2008
Am sorry about your accident.Your story reminds me of someone who was involved in an accident and had a scar on her face. She was very pretty, and she couldn't imagine living with the scar. She died in the hospital not because of the accident but because she didn't have any reason to live apart from her beauty.
There are treatments for scars. Some creams work but that might give little effects. You could consult your doctor and ask for other options like plastic surgery

Business / Re: Beware Of Union Bank of Nigeria PLC: The Worst Bank In Nigeria? 2008-2012 by adewaleafolabi(m): 7:12pm On Jul 31, 2008
I wonder why you said Union Bank was the worst, that's not true the real owner of the award is UBA. Please i demand that you give an unreserved apology to UBA. grin

Now I consider people who say system is down as unserious. For real have you ever tried using Google and it tells you system is down systems are built to have 99.9% uptime not you claiming systems down repeatedly. It's pathetic. Simple upgrade your systems, get better Network administrators and pay them well. I can't forget the nasty experience at UBA Bodija Branch. After waiting in line and been tossed around it finally got to my turn and the lady said i should join the next line cause her system has frozen (hung).
Men i just felt pity for them cause there's something wrong with them and they just don't know it. My friends thought i was exagerating until one of them had to deposit into my account and by the time she eventually succeeded, she gave me a call and said why do you bank with this kind of people
