Politics / Re: Nigerians Seek Removal Of NMDPRA Boss Over Dangote Refinery by agabusta: 2:29pm On Jul 20
The regulator is right.

What grounds do Dangote have to demand sole right to the Nigerian market?? Let him compete against the importers.

This practice of banning imports to stimulate local industries has never worked in Nigeria. We have tried it over and over from the 1980s till date, it didn't solve our problems, it's time to try a different approach - open markets.

Even fresh in our minds is the rice situation. The greedy local producers usually just take advantage of the govt initiative without the consumers benefiting in terms of options and pricing.

Let Dangote compete for the markets fairly in terms of quality and pricing.

Even before now, I have heard it directly from a diesel supplier that the quality of Dangote's diesel is not yet good and he can't supply it to his clients. This supplier is even a Northerner.

RodgersAkpafu:

Thank you very much!!!!

this is EXACTLY what I have been trying to tell people
Mental laziness is why am average Nigerian
Nigerian blames Nigeria for the state of Nigeria
Nigeria and erroneously think that dissolution will solve the problem.
This deluded thinking is ESPECIALLY common in the South East......

But as long as our culture and mentality is wrong, if you like split Africa into 100
it's gonna be the same damn mess

I even meant "we are not"

But it seems you got the message.

I've travelled and I see how other cultures relegate self for common good. How their culture emphasises diligence, due process and honesty. Doing things the proper way and thoroughly. And I see some of these qualities absent in a significant population of our people here, there's no point deceiving myself. We do not have it in us. Our values over the years has diminished.

The average Nigerian complains about the govt/leadership, but they tend not not to see the trait of those leaders in themselves in their little area of influence.

The average Oyinbo that does not believe in God is more honest and diligent in work than the average Nigerian who sleeps and wakes up in the church/mosque and "very passionate about God."

A very simple experiment is to:
Give the average Nigerian money for a project and go to sleep. The project is either not done with the money stolen, or very poorly done, or completed at a date that does not make sense like almost x 4 the initial set completion date.

Give the average Asian or European same and you'll see the difference.

Now I'm not saying this is 100% the situation in both cases, but saying a statistical significant percentage will tilt towards my insinuation.

If you notice of recent, some serious Naija businessmen are now employing Asians to manage their businesses because of their diligence, attention to details and relatively better level of honesty to ours.

Quite a number of Nigerians struggle initially when they travel abroad and start working over there. We have a terrible work culture here and that's the reason our country is in this state. Not a matter of religion or tribe as some myopic people think.

and we could have made our nation into such a wonderful place where tourists would be dying to visit, but it's best we separate peacefully at this point.

Men, imagine a Nigeria with good weather (relatively speaking) all year round, with almost every inch of road paved, with no open gutters, no corrupt police, a 911 number that worked, Law and Order on the streets...

Then add the African culture (secret sauce) on top of all of that and you would have had a BANGER

I feel like crying sometimes, then you see awon Henlinues reveling in the ashes of what could have been, sigh

We are not that mentally developed. Divide the country into 100 bits and you'll get same result.

The same attitude of anyhowness and trying to get ahead of others is all over the country and not limited to a certain place.

Good morning, guys. I am having a dilemma, and I need URGENT advice, please.

My trip is in a few days, and I have already booked a hotel room for my entire stay. I haven't paid yet; I will be paying at the property. I informed my friend that I will be visiting, and he suggested I come stay at his place, which is a few hours away from London. The plan is for me to spend just a few nights in my London hotel and spend the rest of my trip at his house.

My issue is I did not mention this friend on my application because I was not planning on staying with him. I fully intended to stay in the hotel, but his offer came up, and I thought it might be nice to spend some time with him.

I am thinking of changing my hotel booking to just the first few days, but I am worried that if I show up at Heathrow will a hotel reservation that doesn't cover the whole trip, it might pose an issue with Border officials.

The most important thing to me is to not get harassed or bothered at the point of entry. But I also don't want to have to pay for a hotel when I have an offer to stay with somebody for free.

How can I navigate this? Please advise. Thanks.

Another option is to book a 2nd hotel to cover remaining days either in another area of same city or a nearby city as part of your planned activity. After gaining admittance, you can then cancel that 2nd booking leveraging on the days at the first hotel.

I mean the days at the first hotel will give you sometime before you are billed for the 2nd hotel. You just have to ensure you book a 2nd hotel with free cancellation at a time you have already gained entry.

Turkish, Ethiopian and Rwand Air price is about same range. Its only BA and Virgin that is higher by about 400k.

Are you aware this guy broke the monopoly these powerful international airlines enjoyed for years and years ago? Do you expect them to be happy with him?
Then Imagine the massive promotion in reputation Harrys visit gave to Airpeace. I mean he left off using the more known airlines to fly airpeace. These guys are very green with envy and they will throw all spanners into the wheel of airpeace.
Expect more negative press against Airpeace in the coming days. Shebi their tabloids have labeled him a wanted fugitive in America? I was watching Sky News Australia and these guys were just taking great pleasure tearing down Harry and Meghan trying to find faults with who they met and what they said. It's just plain malicious journalism.
Expect more fallouts from the visit.

Harry and Meghan did not fly Airpeace from UK to Nigeria.

You are speaking like a proper tribalist and cry cry victim.
Landmark was not demolished. Have you ever been there? It was the water front cabanas that was cleared. Moreover Landmark waterfront is not the only place cleared. The Oniru Royal family water front was also cleared including many more beach resorts in this area. You obviously do not know this place and these businesses and that's the reason you are ranting ignorantly about only Landmark.

Were properties including a Palace not demolished for road construction in Bariga? Were properties not demolished for the airport road expansion??

emkz:
Peter Obi did gragra thinking he could go all the way alone.

He has learnt his lessons.

Atiku saw himself as the president and underestimated other persons like Obi, Kwankwaso, Wike and Tinubu. Atiku doesn't seem to have learnt a thing.

Historically, no one becomes Nigeria's president on his own. In 1999, Obasanjo was installed by the military. In 2007, Obasanjo helped Yar'adua. In 2011, Jonathan was helped by most Nigerians who did not appreciate the way he was treated. In 2015, Buhari was helped by Tinubu, Amaechi, et al. In 2023, Kwankwaso, Atiku and Obi helped Tinubu win by splitting their votes.

Now, some people are shouting themselves hoarse that Tinubu bribed INEC and never won the election.

If Obi or Atiku believe this, they would ensure no one bribes INEC and still try to win from different parties. That they want to align is an indication that they realized their disunity cost them the election.

It must be recalled that Atiku in his last ill-fated press conference had called on Obi and Kwankwaso to join him in opposition. Obi seems to be heeding the call.

Dear Obidients, has Peter Obi even explained to you people why he made that visit? Would you still support him if he deputizes Atiku?

The one reasonable comment from the beginning

Politics / Re: Delta Government Commences Demolition Of Illegal Structures by agabusta: 10:51pm On May 13
There are demolitions for unapproved developments, recovery of private/govt land and to pave way for public infrastructure like roads, bridges, airports, railways, etc for the greater benefit of the public.

I've not seen that major infrastructural development of govt that does not involve takeover and compensation of people's properties. Even the FCT itself was done on people's ancestral land.

People should dig the history of big roads and some airports we are enjoying today and will discover someone or a family suffered some form of loss for it in the past.

Compulsory acquisition of land by the government for public use or for overriding public interest is well covered by the Land Use Act.

It all starts with a plan.
The same way Lagos-owned IPPs, blue rail line, red rail line, Lekki Deepsea port, Eko Atlantic city, etc started with just a plan. And were announced in similar manner " Lagos to set up..."

Sheuns:
The government should do well to install street lights on the expressways. Driving at night is dangerous in most parts of Lagos due to lack of street lights.

During Ambode and Fashola’s time there was adequate street lighting.

Yeah, you are right.

The citizens should also perform their role and support law enforcement in the safeguarding of Public assets.

Most of the infrastructure (cables and electrical fittings) for street lights are stolen.

While driving early in the morning around 4am, I once came across one useless vandal with pliers trying to steal part of the cable and breaker for a street light pole in Ikoyi. He was just struggling and struggling with the thing and looking left and right. By the time I made a U-turn ahead and came back, the useless thief has taken off.

I read with utter shock and disbelief on this Nairaland the useless thief that has already gone to remove cat-eye lane markers on the recently refurbished 3rd Mainland bridge.

That person is a demon and must be dealt with beyond the wrath of the law. The only road in Lagos that one drives on and is comparable to standard roads all-over the world. Already, they have started vandalising it and same evil people will be bad-mouthing the govt and its infrastructure drive.

Great! The beauty of this is that even if these hubs are not directly serving people and Industries, it will free up the power that the benefiting places would have taken up from the grid.

This freed-up power will be made available to the public.

David is just a typical agbadox. British government didn't invade Igboland because of slave trade. Same excuse they use in America that the North fought the South because they wanted to end slavery in the South. Another example, Nigerian government fought Biafra because they wanted to help SS, Lol, when we all know it was all about resource control. Likewise, British government at the time wanted to gain control of Igboland, Aro Confederacy was an obstacle to them, because it was the strongest pseudo military force Igboland and Ibibioland had to protect them from external forces. So, after several failed attempts by British government to conquer Igboland, they had to use the excuse to end slave trade by Aro Confederacy to bring in their military equipment. Wasn't about ending slavery that they started, it was about regaining control of slave trade from Aro Confederacy, who had sole control of the slave trade industry in present-day Easterm Nigeria and had cut British out of the equation.

Excuse? In those times, nobody needs no excuse to conquer others.
