Politics / Re: Patience Jonathan Unable To Read Own Speech by angrynaija: 8:41pm On Jan 31, 2011
if you listen beyond the accent, i think she did well. after all the chinese or russian presidents wouldn't dare deliver a speech in english. i'm not even sure they can speak the language.
Politics / Re: Jonathan Orders Immediate Evacuation Of Nigerians In Egypt - Nta by angrynaija: 8:14pm On Jan 31, 2011
hopefully nigeria is paying attention to what is happening in egypt. revolution in egypt because of corruption, police brutality and high unemployment. sounds like nigeria to me.
Family / Re: I Regret Bringing My Wife Abroad by angrynaija: 11:50pm On Jan 06, 2011
i am personally aware of two scenarios where this has happened. guys, stop bringing wives from home. if you do, don't ever expect your wives to be subservient, and why should they? secondly, the law protects everyone including women, so don't think they won't call the cops if physically abused. marry an akata or oyinbo, or even our own nigerian women. there are a lot of them around looking for husbands in america, or elsewhere abroad.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Muslims Lets Wake Up Before Boko Haram Hijacks Our Religion by angrynaija: 9:32pm On Jan 01, 2011
@auwal87

i can see that you mean well in your commentary, but it is hard for me and the non-islamic world to see islam as a religion of peace for good reasons. anywhere in the world where there have been religious conflicts in recent years, muslims have been part of the equation:
muslims vs christians
muslims vs jews
muslims vs buddhists
muslims vs hindus

not only that, muslims are known to chant "allah akhbar" in the process of carrying out their deeds. in order words, they believe they either have allah's approval or, perhaps they are seeking allah's approval. this is one of the reasons it is hard for the world to separate terrorism by muslims from the religion itself.

Crime / Re: Police Shoots Man For Laughing by angrynaija: 3:51am On Jan 01, 2011
illiterate dumb crap people should never be employed as police officers. too often there is an abuse of power simply because 'i be policeman'. in the west, police officers-to-be must prove themselves via some psychological tests, amongst other tests, before they can even be considered to serve. not that rogue officers don't exist in the west but abuse of power are few and far between, as they are serious repercursions for such officers. in nigeria anyone out of anywhere can be a police officer. it's all about proving that you have the power
Career / Re: University Degree Only For Gaining Self Confidence by angrynaija: 10:42pm On Dec 14, 2010
we love to amass degrees. but before i get lambasted on this forum, let me say that acquiring degrees really is not a bad thing. the more degrees, the more confidence, but let's stop there for a minute. peoples of the western world, long after their success in acquiring a phd, continue to put their doctorate degree into further research to look for ways add value to the world by way of inventing new technology, discovering new medical solutions to the myriads of health problems that plague humanity - in other words, the work never ends. it seems academia is were our nigerian phd holders usually end up. for many of us, it is a status symbol, but how has that helped to further inventions and innovations for our beloved nigeria, or the world.
ofcourse, you don't need any degree to be successful. i don't know that bill gates has any degrees. the last i remember, i think he dropped out of the university. the point is that we are intelligent enough to add our names to the world's who's who of inventors and innovators, however, our nigerian society or attitudes does not foster or encourage this.
Politics / Re: Buhari: Nigeria Lacks Visionary Leadership by angrynaija: 9:41pm On Dec 12, 2010
mr visionary himself, speaking out of both orifices. a thief like buhari would never have seen another daylight if there were severely prosecuted for fleecing the treasury.
Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Airports Most Embarrassing – Mark by angrynaija: 8:38pm On Dec 09, 2010
seems to me david mark has violated a particular unwritten rule of criticizing our beloved country on any level, in this case nigeria's deplorable airport conditions? they are those of us on this site who will hate david mark's comments on this issue, but the man is telling the truth. the airports of the so-called 'giant of africa' are a shame. not that the money is not there to take care of these things but corruption will not allow us to embrace anything positive. we are being left in the dust whilst other countries are moving right along. look at how our law-makers are greedily enriching themselves with millions of dollars in salary.

@sagamite:
you're absolutely correct. they'll want all of those things you've listed and more. they'll start flaunting it in public - like kissing and derriere-grabbing, disrespecting the public at-large and not minding our children. this is the kind crap going on in the wes, and in south africa
Politics / Re: Should Nigeria Have Part-time Law Makers? by angrynaija: 3:27am On Dec 08, 2010
thievery in all facets of the government in nigeria. these so-calld lawmakers are boldly enriching themselves with outrageous salaries in the millions of dollars. only in nigeria can this happen.

bold-faced thieves!!
Religion / Re: Gay Church Opens In Igboland by angrynaija: 3:21am On Dec 08, 2010
if this is infact true, they are asking for trouble. it is quite clear their motive is not to worship but for sexual encounters. evil and perveted bastards.
Politics / Why Do Soja People Think They Have Unbridled Power by angrynaija: 3:02am On Dec 08, 2010
why do members of our armed forces - army and navy in particular, think that they are more important than the citizens? in western countries, these people are usually not heard of. their only duty should be to defend the country and protect the citizens from civil unrest, but in nigeria, you better not cross these people in uniform if you don't want to hear the proverbial and very arsinine "do you know who i am" nonsense--- that is if they don't end up killing or seriously hurting you?
Travel / Re: Airport Security: Full-body Scans ~ Enhanced Pat-downs - What's Your Take? by angrynaija: 4:00am On Dec 01, 2010
thanks to the panty bomber for the invasion of privacy that innocent people now have to suffer. crazy, crazy nutcase. i'd rather the body scanner than being groped. besides, you are groped with the same gloves that they groped the 300 people that were there before you.
Politics / Re: Atiku May Pick Okonjo Iweala As Running Mate by angrynaija: 3:46am On Dec 01, 2010
she may not be a politician but she would do a better job of managing the country than these toads who have been fleecing the treasury for over 40 years and getting away with it.

if she were intersted, she would be the presidential candidate with someone else as the vp. i'm not sure a crook like atiku should be part of the ticket
Family / Could Women Have Multiple Husbands by angrynaija: 3:41am On Dec 01, 2010
the issue of multiple wives have been part of the african culture from time. are there cultures in this world where women can have multiple husbands? are there nairalander women out there who might fancy this?
Politics / Re: Nigeria Wins Water Leadership Award! Are You Kidding Me? by angrynaija: 3:23am On Dec 01, 2010

Business / Is It Advisable To Bribe In Order To Move That Business Along? by angrynaija: 4:47am On Nov 24, 2010
i'm considering starting a business venture in nigeria. i know that bribery is unavoidable, first in order to have the business legimately registered, also along the way, in order to move things forward to make the business viable. it is going to be a wake up call for my expat friend with whom i'm going into this business. i've aprised him of the way things are done in nigeria but he is vehemently opposed to any kind of bribery. i'm afraid his refusal to oblige will stall out progress. any advise?
Politics / Re: Ghana: A Contrary View by angrynaija: 3:45am On Nov 24, 2010
@rhymz:
so those issues i earlier mentioned are baseless? useless rhetoric and abhorrent ignorance as exemplified by you is just so typical of the problems with nigerians, however, i'm not going to dignify any of your insults by having further back and forth responses. keep living in denial, and perhaps you'll one day wake to the real issues confounding our country. today, ghana as a nation is better than nigeria in terms of better governance, personal security, illicit drug trafficking at home and abroad and other unmentionable ills that plague our nation. the mere mention of some of these drives to the the core of your being doesn't it? better to face the issues and deal with them than to attempt to sugar-coat the issues, my bro.
Politics / Re: Ghana: A Contrary View by angrynaija: 2:46pm On Nov 23, 2010
@rhymz:

rhymz, my bro, i perfectly understand where you are coming from, however, i think your are in denial. while we are on the topic of relating nigeria's issues to ghana and; whether or not ghana is better--- and not issues pertaining to the u.s. let me remind you again that nigeria's issues as a country are on a scale that singularly supercedes those of ghana or any other west african country. do we not have issues with corruption by government officials on a scale that truly boggles the mind? do we not have serious issues with persistent kidnappings? do we not have major issues with 419 throughout the world? which other african country is known around the world with these issues that even comes close on the scale that they exist with nigeria? i know we feel shameful when nigeria is talked about in a derisive manner, but being in denial will not help us. as you well know, being probably the most educated, and endowed with tons of natural resources, nigeria has the potential to really BE the 'giant of africa' as opposed to simply laying claim to the title by virtue of our population. and there in lies the problem---- we are so full of a thing called foolish pride.

make una wait!! yes, i knew it. i knew my comments would raise the ire of some folks in this forum. but let's face it: how about issues with armed robbery, kidnappings, blatant corruption without fear of repercursions, 419, drug trafficking, etc, etc? does nigeria not overwhelming trump ghana in all of these and more? c'mon, let's be serious. like i said, don't kill the messenger. the whole world knows about us naijas.

@angrynaija Omo your ID gan show say u dey vex, me o vex for naija pas u oo, we r suppose to be the leader but w are the back wader , lok at south Africa, i respect them, look at Nigeria , promise , now we are approaching 2011, no light, who cares if Lagos is the most populous, a nation with no constant electricity is doomed, That is the reason i give credits to Ghana, Imagine the whole of Nigeria federation Almost six years later in 2005 the electricity capacity available for use is less than 2000MW even now also.

@otumfour Dont mid dem our ignorant Nigerians brothers who love to boast Nigeria is just an empty barbell who makes the loudest noise its my country i know everything about the system lets call a spade a spade

ide like say some people agree with me. the truth hurts. i'm not saying ghana will be eternally better, but right now ghana is. the truth is that but for our self-inflicted shortcomings, nigeria should be light years ahead.

ghana is so much more better than nigeria. more personal security in ghana, less armed robbery in ghana, virtually no kidnappings in ghana, far better governance in ghana, fewer cases of government officials stealing the people's money in ghana, less 419 by ghanaians at home or abroad, far more cases of drug trafficking abroad - if you don't believe, look at the number of nigerians in asian prisons namely singapore, thailand, south korea, etc, etc, and because of the 419 issue and drug trafficking abroad, nigerians are more a disgrace than ghanaians all over the world. people, including fellow africans are more suspicious of nigerians abroad.

it is very clear, why did obama choose to visit ghana over nigeria?

please, don't kill the messenger, i'm only adding my 2 kobo response

it's not even naija culture of any tribe for men to don earings or tattoos. especially that earings make a man look effeminate, no matter how much muscles you have. makes me wonder, are these men trying to look pretty? some kinda self-expression, i guess.
Nairaland / General / Women And Their Desperations, Why, Why, Why? by angrynaija: 2:58am On Nov 17, 2010
a friend who recently returned to the u.s. from home lamented the desperate situation of some women in nigeria. 2 women, on learning that he was visiting from the u.s. were ready to go to bed with him if he promised to bring them to the u.s. i'm sure we all know some guys who would have used these women, but being the god-fearing married man and respectable gentleman that he is, he refused. the question then is, why are our women so ready to stoop so low as to let men have their way with them, either for the sake of money or simply because you want to leave your country?

Travel / Re: Do You Regret Moving Abroad? by angrynaija: 4:30am On Nov 13, 2010
this is probably a touchy subject for some. let's face it, most nigerians or africans who migrate to these seemingly better countries are treated like second-class people. they have no good employment save for performing menial jobs like cleaning of toilets, driving taxis, bagging groceries at the supermarket, stocking supermarket shelves, washing dishes at restaurants, etc, etc. , and they are so happy to do these jobs with their master's and phd degrees. yes, you know who you are on this forum or someone to whom this applies. with our despicable lower-class status in another person's land, we are so eager to go back home every once in a while and pretend to be better than those who never migrated, yet cleaning of that toilet awaits us once our visit home comes to an end.
yes, i'm sure lots of people have regrets.
