EdgeUp:
Dangote being a brutal capitalist aside, NNPC is just a cesspit of corruption.

Tinubu will show Nigerians that he means well for the country if he fires the entire first and second level management team of NNPC and order their investigation as well.

That is one of the things that can be done to redeem the current socio-economic quagmire
I just went through the findings of the Malta blending plant and if truly the plant belong to the tinubu family then nothing will happen to nnpc management. Fuel imports from Malta to Nigeria Rose to 2b dollars last year and fingers are pointing to the tinubu family. If Nigeria government is still paying secret subsidy then this fight between dangote and NNPCL is not over.

Elementary mathematics:
At today's closing price of 20.35 naira, Oando's market cap is 252.98 billion naira! When this is converted to dollars (using a conservative rate of 1,500/$), it translates to 168.6 million dollars only. In the E & P world where the company now operates, this is peanut and can hardly represent the true worth of Oando. It's therefore left for the discerning ones to assess if Oando is undervalued or not. For me and my household, we are well anchored. No shaking!
I didn't believe in oando because of the experience but now I believe it will perform like seplat.

Unemployment will be on a rampage now because in most cases, people that are paying their workers a salary of 40k might actually be making a profit of 150k monthly on a normal. Then when inflation began, the profit reduced to like 120k a month. Then they said pay your worker 70k, shebi the person go kukuma sack the worker, become the worker himself or close down the sim card business kpatakpata. Maybe at worst, he will increase the price of his sim cards and cause serious inflation. Then we are back at square one. Aswear Nigeria is in a state of catch-22 and we can never be free from it because of the corruptional foundation.
they don't understand, they think we in the private sector can incentives.....in my case I will just add my own pass to government, anytime I get a contract job I will add to it and I will give reasons why I increased it and they can't complain.

Something that NLC was demanding about #630,000 as minimum wage which people were disappointed that they settled for #70,000 in the end. grin. It seems like in human affairs, every solution opens up another problem.
like I said before it is funny to you now until it starts happening,we in the private sector will double everything and the consumers will only grumble and cry. The fg should just make sure things change for better,it will be another cycle that leads to the same result.

The major thing is the economy to be better and the positive effect on the purchasing power of Nigerians. Now the minimum is 70k so the market traders will review the prices because they will say they don't receive incentives from government.

Corruption endemic...

The embattled Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has said that she was allegedly being victimised by some cabals in government because she refused to sign a $500 million World Bank loan request.

On July 10, 2024, a near physical confrontation between Kennedy-Ohanenye, and the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development was averted at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, where the minister had appeared to clarify the controversy surrounding her alleged diversion of N1.5 billion meant for the payment of contractors by officials of the ministry.

But speaking with THISDAY through a phone interview, the minister said that “There is a $500 million loan that was meant to be signed by me, but I refused to sign. There was also a case of $100 million earlier as well. Find out what it was meant for.

“All the loans they collect, including World Bank loans, etc, are you aware that the same World Bank staff in Nigeria takes back 40 per cent and calls it consultation fees?

“These are things you people should look into. You people should focus on where the problem is and let them leave me alone.”

She added: “Now, my life is at stake because I refused to sign the $500 million loan. Let me tell you, if I sign that loan today, I am entitled to five per cent of the money, but I refused to sign it. It is part of why the National Assembly and all of them are after me.

“And that 40 per cent they take is a secret, I found it out. Why should anybody give us a loan and you still direct us how to use the loan, and you take 40 per cent and provide us with a consultant that will take it, and they will take it?

“I told them $100 million is too much to use to teach our women how to save money, we can teach them, let them bring the $100 million and give it to those women and use it to know what to do with their lives."

shocked  Chai! grin grin grin So you knew all of these yet never report them to the DSS, NPF, NFIU, EFCC, ICPC, or military for economic sabotage? Suddenly, the table turned and you are displaced from the power equation, then you started bleating like a female goat on heat. See the entrenched structure of corruption you all are intricately interwoven into?

Dangote these lamentations is too late. You benefitted from the defective and skewed Nigeria your brothers in the military and autocratic regimes bequeathed upon others. Meanwhile, remember that foreign investors are listening and making their decisions. So abeg stop these lamentations.
abeg stop all this blabbing, the foreign investors are observing to see if dangote refinery will work, forget all this Monopoly talk on a 20 billion dollars refinery. If they succeed in making sure that refinery doesn't work it will affect us more than dangote......dangote can make ten times exporting it than domestic sales.

Meanwhile landing costs on imported fuel is heading to 2500 and in the end you will still come here complaining......this refinery will set things in motion that will favor Nigeria and I see it as a positive multiplier effect both in short term and long term.

Remember Dangote is part of Tinubu's economic team... remember Tinubu sought to stop oil subsidy and is working hard to resuscitate the government owned refineries.. Farouk doesn't speak for Tinubu.. rather for those benefiting from fuel importation and subsidy regime.. i project that the guys close to Tinubu like Alake and Gbajabiamila will advise Tinubu accordingly... Dantata (Dangote's uncle) is still alive... Dangote will pull the needed strings to overcome Farouk and his puppeteers... Dangote has built bridges across the Niger and most of his businesses if not all are in the South... he's also been in the corridors of power long enough to know how to play the "game of thrones"... he'll overcome.
he has to overcome it because such a massive project is beneficial and strategic...... infact once this project succeeds it will attract more investments.

You can imagine dangote saying a Friend of his is taunting him because of the advise he was given against investing a huge amount in an unpredictable environment with policy inconsistencies. If they succeed in frustrating him, Nigeria will be marked a no go area by investors.

Another useless post,I think it is high time investors stop putting their money in Nigeria. Nigerians are weird human beings..... anybody that mention modular refinery should invest it elsewhere in Africa and export the products to Nigeria, Nigerians love the word importation.

Landing costs is heading to 2500 in coming months and some Nigerians are more concerned about Monopoly on a 20 billion dollar refinery.but you ignore bua that is building one in akwa ibom were it is even close to the oil block.nonsense mentality on this forum.

The thread is a dumping ground for insane minds. Some Don't even have an idea of the situation, someone even said the government should destroy his business worth billions which is even crazy for a person to think of that then Monopoly thing is getting me confused,is dangote the only cement producer in the country? If people are complaining about his Monopoly strategy to the market why is other influential Nigerians not using the government to their favor.

It is now audible to the deaf and visible to the blind why the corruption in the petroleum industry in Nigeria will continue.
A lot of the beneficiaries from importation are hell bent in frustrating the indigenous companies.
After frustrating dangote refinery of crude, he went ahead to buy outside Nigeria. Since they cannot stop him from getting crude, the music changed to his refinery being at 25% and no licenses yet. On top of that, they claim the product is substandard.
This tussle will go on and on until a winner emerge. Maybe this is the time to unravel all the corruptions and those involved including the cabals in the industry.
exactly on my mind.....NNPCL must be on number one list. That farouk guy just exposed himself and the agency he heads.

But in 2012, the likes of Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Osibanjo etc protested against fuel subsidy removal.

Fuel was to be increased to N146 par litre, yet these men of God protested with their members.

They've suddenly gone mute when the dolar is N1550 and fuel is N850 per litre.

In 2012 the dolar was N216, but today N1550 yet they don't want to protest?

Hypocrisy!!!!
this move is because of what the north did in 2020.....there is already a plan to hijack it and cause a serious civil unrest, this protest is beyond what some of you are seeing. All this event is pointing to 2027....

grandstar:

This isn't an issue about sentiments. I believe strongly in the free market. It's one of my passions.

Producing steel is not the issue. The issue here is whether the country has competitive or comparative advantage in its production and the answer is a flat no.

If it was, Ajaokuts would have long been finished and producing steel, not for the local market, but overseas.

Cheap steel in extremely important as demand for it is mostly derived. It is only in the construction industry that the steel rods do not require transformation into a final product.

Nigeria desperately needs foreign exchange. Over reliance on oil and gas has to end.

But rather than focus on forex generation, Nigerians focus on how to reduce demand for forex through import substitution. Pat Utomi has already mentioned that import substitution does not work and that's one reason the country has gotten nowhere in the past 40yrs or so.

Look at rice if the huge sums sums invested in making the country self sufficient in rice was poured into agric products the country was good at, I would be surprised if it wouldn't bring in an extra $10bn a year in forex.

Sheabutter has the potential of bringing in $2bn a year, and same with sesame seed. Cashew. About $1bn, and there are several other agric produce.

Rather than steel, Dangote should focus on aluminum. The most important imput for aluminum production is energy, as they need loads of it.

Nigeria has loads of cheap energy in the natural gas, a lot of it flared. Bauxite can be obtained close by in Guinea Republic.

Aluminum companies
this is an idea
